[PP-F1] A Rogues' Hunt [Guild]

Recommended Posts

Hans strolled through the plaza of the Starting City, leisurely making his was to the East Gate. As he walked, he swiped his hand to bring up a menu, then navigated to his message. He re-read the conversation between him and Emerath--talking about the guild, and how his first assignment would be a treasure hunt with a high-ranking guild member. Conveniently, since the guild was just made official, the brothers held the highest statuses among the handful of new recruits. He sighed, dismissing the messages, figuring he might as well get started sooner rather than later. He shoved both hands in his pockets as he reached their meeting point at the end of the city. He glanced around, not yet seeing the redhead waiting for him. Leaning up against a wall, Hans relaxed, waiting patiently for the guildmaster to arrive.

Emerath had heard that Hans wished to be the first person to take on a guild mission, and despite that Emerath had originally planned that for someone else, he wasn't one to deny someone's excitement. So he had agreed to meet Hans on the first floor for the treasure hunt that would allow him to gain a rank in the guild. Provided he could prove his stuff and actually find a treasure chest to begin with. It wasn't an easy task. They were rare, and hard to find, and so he knew it would be exactly how he would find those he wished to keep around and trust. The people who could stick with it and show their skills. It made Emerath feel good thinking about it. He would've done it himself if he wasn't already the guildmaster, even if only just to show he could. But maybe some other time. For now, he spotted the blue haired man at the edge of the city and made his way over to him. As he walked up beside him, he gave a light bow and motioned out to the fields, "Whenever you're ready. This is your mission from here on out. I'm just here to prevent any disasters."

When the redheaded man approached, Hans raised a hand in greeting. "Nya, Emerath, how's the guildmaster life treating you?" Hans teased, though there was a note of seriousness in his voice. He pushed off the wall as the two of them headed outside of the city walls. 'Treasure Hunt, nyeh?' Hans thought lazily. He was still new, so he had no map data and had never found treasure in SAO before, so he wasn't sure where to start. He'd have to wing it. With a shrug he placed his hands in his pockets and strolled into the grassy fields, ignoring the stray passive mobs nearby.

Emerath walked alongside Hans. He seemed more interested in actually completing the quest than doing anything menial like fight monsters, which Emerath was fine with, considering the whole point was to find a treasure chest anyway. He wasn't sure why he expected a monster fight, but some of the newer recruits might prefer to take advantage of having a higher level with them. Emerath shrugged either way, seemed that Hans wasn't that kind of a recruit, so that was pleasant. Emerath scratched the back of his neck as he said, "Being a guild leader has been busy. I'm not surprised, but I'm not easily able to keep up either."

"Nn, I can imagine." Hans replied, letting out a sigh. "Not to sound rude," He began, waving a hand lightly, "But I've hardly been out to explore, let alone searching for treasure chests." He was a bit embarrassed, but didn't let it show. "What exactly are we looking for out here?" He frowned, scanning the rolling fields. There were some forested areas in the distance, but everything in front of them was mostly open grass and some boar mobs. He didn't think there would be any treasure hiding out here in plain sight.

Emerath looked at Hans a bit quizzically, before he gave a smile, "Well, I feel like if I told you what you were looking for, that would defeat the purpose. But, I'll give you a hint." He pulled up the map and stood beside Hans as he pointed to a few key points on the map, "You're looking mostly for caves, or suspicious looking trees on this floor. Those would be your best bet. I like to think that if you dig in certain places you can find treasure, but I haven't had any luck with that myself." He put the map away and gave Hans a sly smile, "But that's all you're getting from me. The rest is up to you."

Hans let out an annoyed sigh, although he was happy for the bit of advice he had received. He decided to start looking around, heading in the direction of some caves Emerath had pointed out on his map. Since he figured he wasn't going to see any treasure just laying around in front of them, he tried scanning the area for any easily-noticeable materials, which he wasn't able to find so far. He didn't have anything else to say, so he kept quiet for now, leading the way as they set out on what he expected to be a long and probably boring journey.

Emerath put his hands behind his head and watched as Hans scanned the area while they walked. Emerath thought that might not be a bad idea. He needed something to do as they went along, and materials were in fact something Emerath was always in need of, running a shop. So he did the same as they walked. At first, he couldn't see anything, but then he spotted some mushrooms by a rock. Delighted, he ran over and scooped them up in to his inventory, before going back to following Hans again towards their destination.

They seemed to be going in the direction of the caves he had pointed out, and Emerath wasn't really sure how much Hans was for small talk, so he just kept walking along with the blue haired man silently.

Hans' strolled along, passing by passive mobs without much interest. He had a half-hearted desire to clear them in hopes of loot, but exhaled through his nose as he tried to stay on task. Looking around at his feet and still not finding anything worth value, he soon realized he had picked what might have been the most boring expedition that he could have chosen--at least for now. Hans wasn't one to participate in small talk, let alone force it, so he continued along in silence. They would probably reach the caves in a few minutes or so, since he could see a rocky area past the next hill.

Emerath didn't mind the quiet of the journey. It was certainly a nice change of pace to be able to just get a mission done and know that maybe they might be making a slight difference in this game. However slight it might actually be. Emerath continued to look around like Hans, but seemed to be having a bit more success, as he reached down and pulled some roots from the ground that he recognized as the Hill Root he could use for his favorite potion, the Golden Heart. A part of him felt bad for Hans' lack of success, but maybe if that was one thing to talk about, it was about the finer points of the Search & Detect skill, which was the only reason for him spotting these things to begin with.

As he trudged on, Hans perked up when he managed to spot something of interest on the ground before him. He plucked a green plant from the ground, noticing it was slightly off from the grass surrounding it. A dialogue box appeared in front of him, informing him that he had found a Basil Leaf. Grinning, he dropped the item into his inventory, satisfied that he'd managed to find a material.

He continued leading the way, a mountainous ridge visible as they got continued edging towards the cave entrances.

As Hans managed to spot something on the ground, it seemed that he beat Emerath to the punch, and he had to give him a bit of credit for that. He continued to look around, but to no avail, as they reached the mountainous ridge and some caves to explore. "Well, we're here then. Hopefully there's actually treasure here, eh?" Emerath looked into the cave, and dreaded a bit the idea of being in the dark. He kept telling himself he needed to get the Night Vision skill, but there were just too many other things that needed work and he didn't have enough time. He sighed, as he reached into his inventory and pulled out a yellowish bottle, before giving it a hard shake, causing it to glow brightly in his hand. He then extended it to Hans in offer, "Here, we'll need to be able to see. You're leading the way, so you can have it."
