About: History/personality

Isen had always been fascinated by video games. Being able to get away from real life and retreat to a virtual world with his friends enthralled him, so when he got access to virtual reality, he took to it like a fish to water. He immediately adapted to the new sensations, and thrived in the alternate realities he could now explore. He led most of his friends through these games, often developing an encyclopedic knowledge of the current game they were playing. When Sword Art Online was announced, he was ecstatic. He tried desperately to get into the beta, but was unable to. When the game came out, he was near the front of the line to get it, having been camped out for a full 24 hours before.

He and his best friend jumped into the game as soon as they got it home, and began running around, enjoying the environment. When The Announcement happened, they were devastated. This world they already loved had been turned against them; they quickly succumbed to depression and spent all their time in town, not risking fighting monsters. After a few months, his friend got tired of being scared and began training. Soon enough, he was a tank on the front lines, while Isen still waited in town, scared to risk combat. In a boss fight on the 5th floor, his friend was about to score the killing blow, claiming the drop. However, another player that was jealous of him pushed him out of the way, giving the boss just enough time to react and kill Isen's friend.

Upon being informed of this, Isen was ruined. He blamed himself for his friend's death, as he hadn't helped, and hadn't been there to save him. He quickly lost his ability to trust other players, assuming everyone was out for themselves. However, he still wanted to find a way out, and a fire had been lit in his heart. He gathered his wits, and began training, swearing that he would not let anyone else die. He decided to use his best quality, his mind, to finally put an end to this nightmare. He would gather information and help the frontline players find a way home.

 

Virtues:

Loyal: After Isen has gotten close enough to someone he is loyal to a fault. He will do anything for those he considers friends. Pairing this with his reckless tendencies, however, can often cause himself just as much misfortune.

Perceptive: Isen is very perceptive, and also extremely well-versed in video games. He picks up on smaller details and has a particularly strong memory. As such, he tends to attain an encyclopedic knowledge of the games he plays.

Committed: When Isen decides to put his mind to something, he won't stop until that task is completed. He will either physically or mentally prepare for days, planning the best way to accomplish a task. He will then carry out the mission, stopping at nothing.

Flaws:

Distrusting: Despite his loyalty to those he trusts, Isen doesn't easily get close to others after his friend's death. While he wants to find a way out, he has trouble relying on others because he is never sure who will stab him in the back.

Obsessive: When Isen commits to a task, he will not stop, even if he would get hurt in the process. He will not give up, sometimes stewing and planning for days on end until he doesn't have the strength to stay awake.

Reckless: Due to his friend's death, Isen places little value on his own life, feeling immense guilt at being alive when his friend is not. As such, he has a tendency to not pay attention to his own well-being once he has committed to a course of action.
