[SP-F2] Back to the Grind - Complete

Recommended Posts

Teion inhaled deeply through her nose, stretching her arms above her head and preparing herself for a journey outside the safety of the city's walls. She shook her head firmly in an attempt to clear her head of all the busy thoughts that seemed to occupy it lately. Pulling out her axe, she held it firmly in both hands and took a confident stance at the edge of the second floor's city gates. Sparse trees made up a forest-like environment in front of her, with a dirt path disappearing in the distance. She wasn't sure if it actually led anywhere, or if it was just a landmark for players to easily get back to the city. Psyching herself up for whatever upcoming battle she might face, she took a step forward into the grassy woods.

Teion didn't get too far from the city's edge before she spotted a few mobs roaming around. She didn't want to get caught up in a group of monsters, so she looked for something that was isolated until she saw a large bear slowly pathing around the trees. Gripping her weapon in both hands, the blade glowed brightly as she activated Ultimate Breaker. It had become her go-to sword art lately, since it had the highest damage output. She rushed towards the monster and brought a strong swing upwards and then down. She smirked as she saw the bear's health bar tick downward, but got herself distracted as the bear reared up in response and came down on her with a strong swing of its claws.

The attack didn't hit Teion as hard as she expected it to, but it certainly caught her off guard. She pulled up her axe and came a cross with a side-swipe, but missed just short of the mob. Likewise, it attempted a swing back at her and didn't hit the mark as she stepped backwards to dodge. Taking a deep breath in, she hoisted her blade to attempt another swing, digging her heels firmly in the ground to support her.

Teion readied her axe as the blade glowed again in preparation for another Ultimate Breaker. She swiftly sliced upwards followed by a strong downward slash, hitting dead-on and slicing the bear cleanly down the front, It roared as its HP dropped to zero and the creature burst into pixels. Teion cleared a notification that stated her loot gained and sheathed her axe with a deep breath. She had done much better than she expected.

Teion immediately figured she could start farming the bears wandering around in the woods nearby, so she quickly spotted a new target and marched forward, pulling out her axe again, having only left it sheathed for a few moments. She came up on the creature quickly, bringing her axe down in a powerful swing, leaving a bright red mark, but not doing much past the bear's thick hide. Luckily its counter-attack was clumsy, allowing her to easily dodge.

Teion had the upper hand, and her axe's blade began to glow as she activated a different sword art this time. She brought her axe low and swung upwards with enough power to slice the the bear along its hide and inflict both a bleed and stun with the activation of Smash. Its HP dropped to half, although she had to use the last of her energy, she decided the attack was well worth it. Grinning with satisfaction, the monster was now completely open. Readying her blade, she prepared to take another swing.

Teion managed to lose her footing at the most opportune moment, and her axe swung short. Her bleed damage miserably ticked the monster and she frowned in displeasure--of all the times to mess  up, she had to make a mistake when the monster was wide open to take massive damage. She scowled, missing her prime chance as the stun effect wore off. She kept her guard up, just in case the bear managed to land an attack this time, and pulled up her axe for another sideways swing.

The moment the stun wore off, the bear let out a huge roar, startling Teion as it came down with its heavy claws. She jumped backwards, dodging the attack, but her axe swung lamely in result, going wide and missing the beast entirely. She grumbled in annoyance, seeing the bear's HP tick downwards from the last turn of bleed. Taking a sharp breath, she gripped the handle of her axe tightly. Readying herself, she pulled her blade up to trying and finish the mob off.

Teion's luck was starting to fall short. She brought her axe to the side as the bear swiped downwards, knocking her blade downward and catching her on the leg, leaving a couple of shallow cuts. With a frustrated growl, Teion pulled her axe back inward and regained her balance. The bear roared defensively, standing up on its hind legs. Teion flinched in reaction, suddenly feeling unsure against the large beast. She grit her teetch, steeling herself for another clash.

Teion dug her heel into the the ground and raised her axe, making the first move and bringing the blade down as she lunged forward. The metal drove into the bear's shoulder and came down hard, quickly dropping its HP and applying a bleed effect. Teion grinned in satisfaction, figuring she only needed one more hit to finish the fight. With a strong stance she pulled her weapon back again, preparing another swing and hoping to finish the combat quickly.

Teion's swing hit true, opening another large gash on the bear before it froze and burst into pixels. Teion panted slightly, tired from the long fight. She was hoping for a better drop, but shrugged as she received a crafting material. She took a deep breath, looking around to make sure the area was clear before sheathing her axe behind her and stretching her arms. She needed to make this a lucrative trip, so she definitely couldn't afford to go back with just two mobs killed.

Teion stretched her arms over her head and she headed back to the faded dirt path between the trees. There was less mob traffic, and less chance she would attract monsters than if she continued stumbling around in the forest. With a sigh, she opened her menu and scrolled through her inventory. Her material stock was drastically low, so much so that she was hardly able to keep up with her daily crafts. Perhaps she was too gung-ho, spending so much time holed up in her store without taking the time to restock. She shrugged lightly to herself, taking a moment to think of her next course of action while her regeneration kicked in.

Spotting a large wolf in the distance, Teion shrugged again and pulled out her axe, having only left it sheathed for a few minutes. She figured the best way to get the items she needed was to keep fighting, and her newly-acquired armor came very much in handy for solo farming. The wolf before her was much larger than the wolves on the first floor. She grit her teeth in a slight grin, ready for the challenge as she ran and swung at the wolf. It seemed like she startled the animal; as her blade glowed, Ultimate Breaker activated and chunked the wolf's HP bar.

Teion swung her axe across her body again, hoping for another solid hit. The wolf reacted much more quickly, however, taking a well-timed swipe at the side of the metal to knock it off course and into the ground. The two clashed and pulled away, no damage done as they both prepared another strike. Teion gripped the handle of Midnight Eclipse with a scowl, hoping that this fight wouldn't be as lengthy as the last.

As she readied another swing, the wolf had a faster reaction and lunged at her before she expected it. Its large claws swiped at her torso, only inflicting minimal damage because of her armor, which she felt instant relief for. A couple of red gashes ran across her chest, and she wasn't able to swing as she lost her footing and stumbled backwards, catching herself after a moment. Teion's eyebrows furrowed as she regained her balance and brought her axe in front of her body again. She stabilized and lunged forward for a counter-attack.

Teion lifted her axe over her head to come down on the wolf, but it reacted quickly once again, darting to the side to dodge her attack. Luckily she was prepared for its swipe and also backed away in time to avoid the hit. Growing frustrated at their standstill, Teion stayed back for a moment and surveyed the situation, trying to get better leverage in order to catch the wolf off guard. She watched as the mob paced back and forth in front of her, as if impatient for her to attack again. She bit her lip, trying to think whether or not a certain mechanic was to blame, or just plain bad luck.

Teion watched the wolf carefully, finding the pattern in its path and quickly lunged forward at just the right time. The wolf's body wasn't in the best position to retaliate, and her axe glowed as she struck the beast twice in succession, cleaving two large red gashes across its side. The wolf howled loudly in pain right before its HP dropped to zero and it disappeared in an explosion of light. A loot window appeared in front of her as she sheathed her weapon again, and she smiled happily as she received some col and an extra material.

Same as the last time, Teion returned back to the beaten dirt trail, debating how much later she should stay out for the day. She looked up at the sky and figured she had a bit more time before she should call it. With a yawn, she felt the system's regeneration refilling her HP and EP, and she lazily kicked around the dirt in front of her, hoping for a lucky drop. With no such result, she frowned and strolled up the path, keeping an eye out for anything shiny she might see on the way.

Teion either hit an area of the woods that was cleared out recently, or it was just dead quiet where she had wandered. She only saw an occasional loose mob roaming around, and her "search" for materials was coming up fruitless. She folded her arms across her body as if in defiance of the boring atmosphere. She wasn't sure about getting into another combat, but she was hoping she could pick up at least one or two more materials before heading back into town. With a discouraged frown, she hesitated a moment before turning around and heading back in the direction of the walled city.

Teion was either blind or incredibly unlucky. Maybe her head was too fuzzy and distracted with all that had been going on lately. There was a lot of stress in her life, more than she thought she'd experience in Sword Art Online--you know, after ignoring the 'death game' part. She still found it relatively fun, of course. She probably missed home more, though. She couldn't stand the thought of living in Aincrad indefinitely. Even with how pretty and adventurous everything was, she didn't want to ignore real life forever.

A light sigh escaped her lips as she approached the tall city walls of Urbus. Giving the dirt another good kick of her boot, she decided she might as well call the material hunt for now. At least she picked up some experience and col on the way.
