[SP-F1] <<Earning a Living>> Sustainability - Complete

Teion laced her fingers together, placing her hands behind her head as she walked. She strolled lazily through the first floor plaza, heading to the blacksmith quest giver. It had been a while since she'd been there, reminiscing to when she had first taken up the profession. As she approached the old man, he gave her a friendly wave "Well hello young lady!" She could always count on the NPCs to be friendly, at least. "I hope your efforts have been paying off! If you're in need of more materials, I can show you the best place to find them!" The old man pulled up some map data and then presented her with the quest, which she eagerly accepted.

Teion hadn't needed to say a word, pushing the correct button on the prompt to accept the quest and following the map she had received towards the edge of town. She was still getting used to dealing with people--other players--in this game. She had never been a social butterfly in the real world. She relied on Endilix to do the talking whenever they were together, and any other time she needed to interact with others it was usually to the point with little room for small talk.

After a short time of daydreaming, Teion had reached the outskirts of the city and entered into a clearing where boars were plentiful. Apparently, her job was to simply farm monsters until she'd reached a minimum of materials to complete the quest this time. She shrugged, pulling out her axe and hoping that luck would be on her side today.

Teion approached a small boar, taking a large swing of her axe and cleaving it cleanly down the side. The boar squealed and retaliated as its HP dropped quickly, running its tusk across her leg. She flinched, and then realized she massively outleveled the creature. Hardly taking any damage at all, she smirked in satisfied, expectant victory. She brought up her weapon once more and prepared another swing.

Teion took another powerful swing downwards and hit the boar directly on the top of its head. The monster let out another squeal as its HP dropped to zero and it burst into a light show of pixels before her eyes. She waited a moment and then frowned when she didn't receive a notification of loot. Apparently some serious farming was in order. She gave her arms a stretch before scanning the field for any tight-knit groups of mobs. Lighting her axe up to her shoulders, she spotted a grouping that would do nicely, and made her way in the right direction.

Teion approached a small clearing with a lot of mobs and raised her weapon high, only to lose her footing and come down far too early. Her axe responded with a heavy -thunk- into the dirt and grass. Growling lightly under her breath, Teion realized she had gotten the boar's attention, and it responded with an angry snort as its indicator turned red. It lunged at her quickly, and with her grip still tightly around the immobile axe, the beast ran its tusk into her side. She winced, expecting to feel a deal of pain as the attack hit her head-on, but opened her eyes, realizing the low-leveled monster had hardly affected her health pool. Fighting in lower level areas was going to take some getting used to.

As Teion wrenched the blade of her axe from the ground, the boar scrambled wildly in another attempt to attack her. Teion managed to sidestep out of the way entirely, and the boar scurried past her and turned around, twisting and stopping the ground as it snorted in defiance. She attempted another swing herself, only to miss as the creature dashed away and got its bearing just out of her reach. She frowned, not thinking that this boar would be giving her so much trouble.

Teion seemed to have found the nimblest of young boars. The animal squirmed around her giant blade, weaving through her swings and taking tiny swipes at her legs in a panic. Teion grit her teeth, not out of pain, but out of annoyance. The creature scrambled back and forth, practically flailing as it passed by her in an attempt to damage her enough before she could land a blow.

Teion held in a sigh as she and the boar went through the same chereography, the small animal slowly chipping away at her (comparatively) massive health pool. She had to give the thing credit; it was slippery and the largest annoyance she'd encountered so far. She grumbled under her breath, wondering how long it would take to reach her material goal before she could land a strike on the creature, let alone get any loot from it. Gripping the handle of her axe, she pulled it up take another swing.

After what felt like a century of back-and-forth hit and misses, Teion's blade finally came down square across the boar's back. She grinned in success, seeing the boar's HP quickly drop to zero in one hit. She let out a long sigh, wiping her forehead with the back of her gloved hand. She waited impatiently for just a few seconds before her brow furrowed and she let out a groan of annoyance.

"Ahhh, come on..." An exasperated puff of air left her lungs as she sheathed her axe behind her. She kicked around in the dirt at her feet, thoroughly annoyed that she hadn't collected a single material so far. She dug the toes of her boots around in the dirt until she was satisfied there were no gold ingots hiding beneath her feet. Still grumpy from the lack of loot, she pulled out her axe again, this time gripping it to stab the blunt end of the handle into the ground, sifting around for anything useful.

Teion dug around in the ground, still not having any luck. Occassionally she would stand up, walk a few feet in a random direction, and squat down to start digging again. After several attempts at this, she sighed and kicked at the dirt, starting to daydream. She was hoping this outing would be a lucrative one, but so far she wasn't going to be able to make very many crafts today, let alone the rest of the week.

At this point Teion had sat down on the long grass, axe sitting on the ground in arm's reach beside her. She stretched out her legs, clicking the toes of her boots together and passing some time to let her cool off before starting the search again. She definitely wasn't in the mood to fight with any of the boars on this floor anymore. With a heavy sigh to calm her nerves, Teion stretched her limbs again, feeling a little melancholy. She looked up at the sky, watching the hardly-changing white clouds pass overhead.

'Wonder what the boys are up to...' Teion's mind couldn't help but wander back to her twin friends. Given all that had happened between them recently, it was no wonder, but she had come all the way back to the first floor to farm for materials and get her mind off of things, not dwell on drama and over-complicated feelings. She shook her head lightly to dismiss the lingering thoughts, and with a deep breath she hoisted herself back to her feet. She leaned over to grab her axe and figured it was about time she got back to work.

She spent a few more minutes digging around before finally, after what seemed like an entire day mucking around on the first floor, she heard a -thunk- beneath the handle of her axe. Her eyes widened in surprise, and then she found herself grinning as she picked up a chunk of iron ore from the dirt. She deposited the item in her inventory, crossing her fingers for just a moment that this wouldn't be the only material she'd find today. With an almost frustrated huff, she realized she'd have to get more materials before she'd even be able to go turn in the quest anyway.

She tried a few more spots here and there, hoping to have similar luck, but none presented itself to her. She scratched the back of her head, wondering impatiently how much longer she could force herself to dig around in the dirt for more materials. 'Maybe the higher levels have better drop rates...' She thought absently, curious if the different in level was affecting her gathering. "Ugh, but then the profession quests would make no sense." She voiced her thoughts with an annoyed tone. She paused from her treasure hunt for a moment while surveying the area. She spotted a small pack of tightly-knit boars not too far off, and clutched the handle of her axe, an idea sparking in her mind.

Teion gripped the handle of her axe and rushed towards the group of mobs, the blade of her weapon beginning to glow brightly. With a flash, she brought swung it around With a flash of light. A circular pattern trailed from her blade and struck each of the four surrounding boars. Each one was struck cleanly across the side and their health bars dropped simultaneously. Her luck finally seemed to be turning around-- as she took a breath and rolled her shoulders, a window popped up and each of the boars had dropped a material.

Teion wiped her forehead again, taking a deep breath, satisfied with her loot for now. She kicked around in the dirt, curious to see if there were any more loose materials in the area, but quickly gave up. With a light sigh she pulled up her inventory and scrolled around, absently flipping through the menus without any real purpose. With a shrug, she noticed that last attack had pretty much burned through her energy, and she wouldn't be able to pull off another stunt like that until she gave it some time to regen.

Teion dug around in the ground some more, feeling very reminiscent of the previous attempts at gathering. She frowned again, muttering a curse under her breath as she lazily dragged the handle of her axe through the ground, occassionally getting up to move to a new area. She closed her eyes and took a minute to more or less relax in between her scavanging. Starting to let her mind wander and considered taking another "break" to recreate her previous luck.

Teion huffed and sat down cross-legged on the grass. She closed her eyes and leaned back on her hands, feeling the soft breeze brush against her cheeks. She let herself relax for a moment, rolling her shoulders back to loosen her stiff muscles. "So if I take at least the five I have here..." She started talking to herself under her breath, calculating out how long the haul would last her.

"That will only last me for a day... I wonder how many I'll get from completing the quest." She continued mumbling to herself, starting to tally numbers on her fingers. She was starting to run behind on her custom orders, which is what brought her out here in the first place. She was starting to think she would have to retake the quest pretty soon. She idly thought and debated with herself a moment before deciding that her break needed to come to and end and she should get back to hunting.
