Until then he needed to grow even stronger and improve his own fighting prowess. This match had taught him that strength came in different forms and to take no move for granted. Everything should have a purpose to help further your side. Though battling without evasion was a gamble, it'd be well worth the sacrifice later on once he achieved the specifics of his build.
