Breaking the unbreakable, <<Martial Arts>> Extra skill
This quest is only available on the 2nd floor.

To start the quest, the player must first find the quest NPC that has taken residence in a hut near the summit of an exceptionally high mountain at the southern edge of the 2nd Floor. If the player accepts the quest, the NPC takes the player outside to a 2 meter-high rock with a diameter of about 1.5 meters and almost as tough as an Immortal Object. There, the NPC reveals that the player must split the rock into two using only their fists and then proceeds to paint whiskers with quick-drying paint on the player’s face, claiming that the whiskers cannot be removed until the rock is split. If the player does manage to split the rock, they are rewarded with the Extra Skill.

Manta had recently noticed that one of her sword arts was greyed out, signifying that she couldn't use it. Upon further investigation she found out that it was a sword art that required another type of skill, an extra one called <<Martial Arts>>. She thought that was a bit dumb. A game called Sword Art Online shouldn't have a system where players can fight solely with their bare hands. Still, she wasn't a game designer, so she didn't really have a right to criticize the system. She had done a bit more digging into the required quest, and had invited Ebony to help her out with it. She had also brought two rare damage potions to help them out.

Ebony showed up on floor three around ten minutes earlier than the time Manta and her had agreed on.  She happened to want this skill as well, and was praying that the NPC in charge would give it out on some sort of lottery system. Manta and her could always come back and do it again, right? She walked to the meeting place slowly, taking her time and checking her equipment. Apparently weapons weren't allowed, but she decided to keep her armor and the rose on as well.

Manta let out a little practice punch, still wondering why they would include something like this. The punch just didn't feel right. After all of that time using a rapier and now she was supposed to set that aside and start punching things. She noticed Ebony walking up and tossed her one of the damage potions before starting the trek out to the edge of the second floor where they would find the NPC. She didn't bother to say anything to her. This quest was all business for her.

Ebony caught the potion that Manta had thrown to her and went ahead and drank it, the veins in her arms starting to glow an orange color. It looked to be some sort of damage enhancing potion. It looked like Manta was getting serious for this quest. They walked in silence for a long time until they reached a large mountain range. There was an NPC there, hanging around outside of a little hut. Ebony walked up to him and said high, causing the NPC to start giving his speech about how they had to break a rock to get an extra skill. She was led about fifty yards from the hut and was shown the rock. She nodded understandingly, just as she felt a paintbrush on her face. It had already dried before she could get her hand up to feel it. "You've gotta break that rock there to get them off." He muttered before walking back to his hut, ignoring Manta.

Manta stared at the NPC as he completely ignored her and focused only on Ebony. It looked like the system had already decided who was going to get the skill. And even though Ebony looked really cute with paint whiskers, Manta couldn't just leave her friend like that. They could always come back and do it again for herself. She drank down her own potion, the veins in her arms glowing orange like Ebony's were. She took a step forwards and sent a punch flying at the rock, her fist slamming into the center. The rock shook a little, but otherwise seemed unharmed.

Ebony gave a sigh of relief. She knew how Manta was about animal girls, and for a second there she had thought that her friend would abandon her to her her fate. She pulled back a fist and copied what Manta had just done, sending her fist flying into the rock at high speed. He punch hit home, and she saw the rock's health bar go down a bit more, as well as the paralyze symbol showing up. As if the rock could move anyway. She grinned. "Thank you by the way Manta."

It looked like the entire goal of this quest was to punch a rock, over and over again until something finally happened. This had to be one of the most boring quests she had ever been on. She absentmindedly swung a punch at the rock, missing entirely and stumbling forwards a bit. She couldn't believe that she had missed a stationary object. She was supposed to be a front-liner!

Ebony almost laughed out loud when Manta missed the rock. First off, the rock was a stationary object. And secondly it was a paralyzed stationary object, making it even funnier. Still, she held it in and managed not to laugh. After all, this was supposed to be Manta's quest, which by some twist of fate had been given to her. She lashed out with her other fist, hitting the rock again. It was going to be a long day.

Manta saw Ebony's face take on a serious look and knew exactly what was going on. It didn't faze her though. She could restore her pride if she just didn't miss the rest of the time. Everyone missed easy targets every once in a while. She twisted and sent another punch at the rock, except this time she slipped on a pebble and missed once again, injuring nothing but her pride.

Ebony couldn't help but burst out into laughter this time. In fact, she was still laughing when she punched the rock yet again. She didn't understand how Manta could have so much trouble hitting a rock. It was kind of embarrassing for her. "Dont worry about it Manta, we all have things we aren't good at." She said between laughs. Maybe Manta was just having an unlucky day, but that didnt make it any less funny.

Manta got back up onto her feet, her cheeks a tomato red. There would be no escape from the stories that would come from this. When Manta was one of the best front-liners, with a unique skill and all of that, she felt certain that this would come back to haunt her. She raised her fist, punching forwards again, her punch actually hitting home this time. The rock wasn't even to half health yet, but hopefull it wouldn't be much longer.

Ebony clapped for Manta, glad that her friend seemed to be getting her edge back. She didn't clap long though, they had a rock to break, and that wouldn't happen by clapping. She pulled her fist back and slammed a punch into the face of the rock, leaving what looked to be the tiniest of cracks. It could have just been her imagination though.

Manta stared at the rock. It looked like it was all set to dodge her attack or something. She activated her extra skill, concentration, and went to punch the rock again. Her fist flew through the air and impacted the rock once more. This was getting quite tiring, but you did what you had to do for skill points and extra skills. Sometimes it was boring and sometimes exciting. This just happened to be on of the more boring ones.

Ebony was getting the same sort of feeling from the rock. She didn't know why she felt that way, but she wasn't about to risk missing spectacularly like Manta had earlier. She activated her skill extra skill <<Disguise>>, and her appearance turned to that of Manta's. Her fist hit the rock solidly, right in the center, and her appearance changed back to normal, her attack done.

Manta took a step back from the rock, taking a short break from punching the rock. She imagined that if this was real life that her hand would be black and blue by now from the beating they were giving the rock. It was a good thing that you couldn't sense pain in this game. She moved closer to the rock again in preparation to start attacking again.

Ebony watched as Manta took a short break from the punching. She realized that her friend must be even more frustrated than her from being someone used to dealing a ton of damage and from the fact that she wouldn't even be getting the extra skill from this. Ebony pulled her fist back and tried to channel all of her strength into this one punch, her fist flying forwards and slamming into the rock, causing it to vibrate with the force of the blow.

Manta took a half-hearted punch at the rock, missing entirely. It was a good thing that Ebony's last punch had been powerful enough for both of them. Manta couldn't wait for this quest to be over, in face she didn't know if she would ever attempt it again for herself once this was over. Who was the idiot who had come up with this quest? It was plain torture, making a player punch a rock for hours for some extra skill that  probably sucked.

Ebony let loose another punch, her other hand impacting the rock this time. Neither of them was saying a word to the other, and yet Ebony still felt as though she and MAnta were having similar thoughts. This quest had to be the least well thought out quest in the game. It made her want to not punch anything ever again it was so boring. Couldnt they at least have had them hit a punching bag?

Manta took another swing at the rock, letting out a long sigh. Once again she missed, and she sat down a few yards away from it. She needed to take a short break from this. That rock was getting on her nerves more than any person she had ever met, which was kind of strange as all it was doing was sitting there and getting punched. After a few seconds she stood back up and prepared to continue punching it.
