[PP-F4] The Killing of Mr. Chill (Opal and Coddexx) Complete

Recommended Posts

Having seen a message, from a Higher level player who goes by the name of Opal, that was a call to new player to get a jump on SP  I couldn't pass it up. I decided to private message her and see what it was all about. Having just leveled from my little "hunting" trip I couldn't believe what I was hearing. it seemed almost too perfect. This is just what I needed to successfully jump start my time here. I can get so much more experience tagging along on a higher lvl quest than I could make from grinding down here in these grasslands. So ultimately I arranged with Opal to meet me by the Inn I was staying in so we could prepare for our quest to find and kill the Ice Elemental named The Avalanche. I clicked send on the message asking Opal to meet me here and waited my heart beating quick with excitement.

Opal had appeared in a flash of light at the Teleport Plaza of Floor One. This place seemed to have many haunting memories of the past. However, she declared she would help create a world that would be strong in both foundation and political power. And to build a good foundation, you needed strong troops and be able to lead the next generation over that hill. Garbed in the red and white colors of the Knights of the Blood, Opal walked with confidence to the meet up area with a player known as Coddexx, one of the few who had taken up the request she made earlier. With the ornate saya clutched in her hand, she continued down the path knowing these walls and these streets all too well. She had spent plenty of time here knowing the ins and outs of this bustling starting city. Amber eyes focused on the group of players around her as she came up to a small section of Inns, one in particular was called Bijorn's Bar and Inn. She couldn't remember if she had ever ventured inside, perhaps back in her earlier career she might have had a drink here. She was that type of girl...well mostly in the past. She still frequented bars these days, but not so much when she was under the Blood Oath colors.

She came to what appeared to be an excited player which she pegged to be the newbie that had summoned her for this quest. Taking a quick look at him before making a guess, he was indeed a starting player. She didn't mind, she did after all say 'fresh out of the oven.' And you don't get much fresher than this one.

"A few rules before we begin," she said to snap attention to his ears, her almost honey like eyes dressed him down as she folded arms over her ample bosom. The cloth of white being tugged into the length of her arms as they were crossed over and then she continued in her normal tone of voice, "You'll stay behind me and you'll do as I say so there will be little conflict. The entire point of this is to get you the Skill Points so you can become a stronger warrior for the next generation of players that will come out of hiding. I was once as you were, and it can be both terrifying and exciting. And with the changes, the enemies and mobs are even less kind and have no mercy."

Opal swiped her hand over her menu and produced a trade with the player. She would give him two of her low level HP Recovery Potions for his future travels also the Map Data for floor one and floor four.

"Those both will come in handy to you in the future. I have mapped out the entirety of floor four since I stay there most of the time. It is where I reside until I find a more suitable place to call home. Now as far as combat goes, I am sure you will need materials as well. Once we get to the above floor, I'll take down a few mobs and then we can go ahead and take down Avalanche. He is pretty much a pushover for me, but to be on the safe side, always stay behind. If this is understood, we should be on our way."

My excitement quickly being tamped down by this woman's serious demeanor I took a few breaths to center myself as she explained to me the plan. I asked myself if this is just how the higher ups were but as her speech continued I realized it was in my best interest to not question her and just follow along. As I took the maps along with the hp potions I realized that this quest was going to be a great learning experience for me. Regardless of Opal's demeanor there is a lot to say about her helping fresh players like me and for that I admired her greatly.

I couldn't help myself. This all beginning to feel so real brought a huge smile to my face that I tried  but failed to hide attempting to adopt her calm collected persona.

"Yes mis I understand. Stay behind at a safe distance and let you do the dirty work."  I looked at the hp potion in my inventory and asked " how much hp do these restore? I know that I should know but...." My question trailed off realizing how new to this game I truly was these were the first potions I have seen so far.

"Fifteen HP each. They are lower tier alchemy potions, but they will be good for you for a good while until you get more HP under your belt. Well, with all that straightened out and our plan of action seems good to go, let's get to the nitty gritty. Umm...Have you ventured to the fourth floor before or is this your first time? In any case, its going to be freezing up there, we are going into a Winter like floor where it is always snowing. You can go ahead and take this with you as well..."

-2 15+ HP Recovery Potions
-Map Data of floor 1 [100%] and 4 [98.99%] sent to Coddexx
- Potion of Warming: RP Fluff Item: The drinker will be warmed by the contents in areas of low temperature.

"That last potion in the list will help keep your body warm without the Survival Skill for at least an hour or two. Which will be more than enough time to do what we need to do up there. I would suggest in the future that you take on The Traveler Quest on floor five when you get the chance. The skill you get it pretty worthwhile, not only will it help protect against environmental damage, but you also replenish more HP out of combat. Well, let's get going..."

Opal gestured Coddexx to follow her. She held tightly onto the Masamune's saya, the ornate sheath held and extremely long blade which anyone would question if she could wield such a lengthy creation. But her combat prowess were nothing to be considered as weak. Trained in both the arts of Samurai and Ninjutsu, she was a formidable player by the normal standards. But there was always room for improvement.

"By the way, you can call me Opal. I might begin to think I am old lady when people call me Miss. And you are Coddexx, right? That's an interesting name..." They had arrived at the teleport plaza for floor one and were staring down a stone foundation, "Have you ever used one of these before? Just call out the name of the establishment you want to visit and it will take you there. In this case we will be going to Snowfrost. In any case, you can go ahead and go first, I'll be right behind."

"Thanks for the equipment miss... I mean Opal.  Thanks I appreciate it. " I took a look at the map of the fourth floor that she had given me and was amazed to see that it resembled that of a winter wonderland for lack of a better name.

"Okay that makes sense.  I'll head out. Snowfrost I'll be making my way there.  I've always been a fan of the snow."

I walked up to the teleport plaza. And feeling slightly like Harry Potter using the flu network I called out "Snowfrost" the air around me began to spin and become bright light. The sound of the teleport filled my ears and my senses were overwhelmed by the bright light dancing around me as the plaza I was standing in dissolved away in a swirl of light. Soon the snow covered floor four began to materialize. Instantly chills went through my body and the snow around me wished I had more clothing than this basic equipment.

I pulled out the potion of warming Opal had given me and quickly downed the bottle. It tasted a lot like hot coco but it was an amber liquid. The thought of chocolate flavored Apple juice went through my mind. After drinking it my ears popped and a blanket of warmth cascaded down my body and sent a shiver down my spine . I leaned up against the wall waiting for Opal to meet me here.

OOC: Wont be wasting anytime with combat here. If you have any questions on what I am doing, feel free to ask. :)

Bursting out of the light, Opal'd feet plopped down on the snow covered ground. Amber eyes sought out her partner and found Coddexx leaning against a wall. Smiling, she gestured towards him as she walked by, "Don't dawdle..." she said with a wave. She escorted him towards the edge of town, not stopping by to look at the scenery. There was only the main quest and that was to take out Avalanche. She had recently finished this quest by herself and it proved to be of little difficulty. Turning her head back to make sure Coddexx was within distance, she materialized the massive seven foot blade from its ornate sheath and slid the long katana from its home. The Masamune could be considered an intimidating weapon, but it was the best kind that fit her personality. Flicking it behind her as they walked through thick blankets of white, Opal turned her attention to her partner.

"Remember what I said about being combat. You hang back and watch while I do the work. I'll go ahead and look for a few mobs to play with, you could use the materials and I could use the col if I get lucky from the drops. Should I miss on my attempt to strike them down, stay behind and don't do anything that will draw their attention to you. The last thing I need is more blood on my hands..."

She said that with a warning, caring little for the tone in her voice of the demand that was given. As they sought out into the open fields, she had come across four familiar dire wolves covered in a snowy jacket. It was time for her to get to business.

As she stepped within the aggro range of the Dire Wolves, her large katana began to pulsate with life giving off an ivory and silver glow to the blade. Looking back to Coddexx she would explain what was going to happen, "The sword art I plan on using is called Haku Senpu, my strongest AoE in the current rank of Katana I am in. I'll be charging the enermy to get a boost in damage...Watch carefully...if you can..."

She was not lying, the woman engaged her <<Charge>> skill along with her <<Sprint>>. Bursting into a blur of white and red, she came upon her enemies while her glowing blade swept the air, triggering the mechanics of the skill. Buzzing force winds started to wrap around her body creating a slicing vacuum effect until the mob was pulled in. They were eviscerated in those turbulent blades as they exploded without so much as a howel.

As the sword art died out, Opal found several large sacks of col on the ground mixed with a few fur pelts from the mobs she had just slain. Scooping them up, she kept the sacks of col while handing over the mats to the other player, "Mats will help build up your rank if you decide to take on a Profession, they are also used as bartering tool for new equipment at Player Shops. Before we engage in more mobs, I need to let my energy recuperate for a bit. But we can take from the land and find some materials out here. Just don't go too far from me."

My eyes went wide as I witnessed this woman turn into a flash of light and easily slice through four wolves at once.   She seemed slightly drained but for her to destroy those four beasts without even flinching is quite impressive.

Reclaiming my composure I walked up to the spot where Opal rematerialized and took the materials.  " I can't wait till I can do that myself "  I shook my head and laughed

" so you charged them to do more damage and your sword art did aoe damage but why did you sprint?"

"Why did I sprint? A woman needs to show off every once in awhile I guess...I like to go fast when I charge. I don't hold anything back when I clear mobs...so that's why I did it. We can stick around this area and look for some materials from the trees. You will notice time from time when you are out hunting, the ground will sparkle, or part of the tree will sparkle. These are nodes that will allow you to look for materials, whatever they may be. For example..."

Opal hunched over, a small group of wild flowers sparkled in the foliage of the frozen soil covered in frost from the snow. They looked beautiful but upon closer inspection, Opal noticed they were just part of the scenery and could not be used for anything in particular, "Once you see the sparkling object, you will get a pop up notification to see if it has any value or not. In this case, no such luck here with these wild flowers. Materials are always worth having, so when you are not in combat, it's a good idea to look for them. Always spend your time doing something that will improve your income and character. If you wanna get high in this world, you need to always be alert to everything."

Dusting her hands off from the dirt and snow, Opal stretched outwards and yawned a bit shifting the weight of the Masamune over her right shoulder.

"Okay being alert makes sense, you never know what you may find . How hard is it to find these nodes?" I begin to look through patches of snow around us and think I may have found a node in the mix of a group of flowers. " Here is something sparkly" As I inspect it further a small window pops up in front of me " What? Okay that kinda sucks I guess it's a bit harder than I thought. The window says no usable materials were found" I dismissed the window and kept looking around, hopeful to get a glimpse of another node. "You probably know a decent amount about this so I might as well ask. About how many materials do I need to make anything of use? I haven't finished the 'earning a living' quest yet so I don't know that much about crafting and things of that kind. I read in the guidebook about enhancements and how those work but do you need more materials to craft better quality items?" Taking a break from searching I sat down on a rock and looked up at you. " Thank you for the potion of warming by the way you are a real life saver. I feel super warm and fuzzy inside. When I first ported in to Snowfrost I could hardly breathe it was so cold."

"Ugh, finding materials can be a pain in the ass. Finding the gathering points is not that hard part. Being it a random factor is the pain of it all of actually attempting to loot from the node. But sometimes you can get really lucky and sometimes you can go a full day without finding anything. There are items and accessories that will help you in searching to give you better luck. I used to have a Treasure Hunter build, but that was before I switched over to a more DPS character." the explanation was longer than she had planned. She kicked some snow with her foot to see if the barren land beneath had anything of value. It was just a solid patch of frozen soil beneath the fluffy snow pile.

"As for creating items with mats, you only need to use one mat per craft. If you decide to go into Alchemy, you'll be using two mats for crystals which is a great disadvantage for us Alchemists. That makes things much harder on us, but a crystal can be used instantly as opposed for a potion where you have to give up a combat action to use it. Any other profession though, one mat per item you make no matter the quality."

Opal watched as Coddexx had taken a seat on a rock and looked up at her, amber eyes glowed softly under the bright sun overhead and nodded in his general direction. "It's no problem at all, I wouldn't want you freezing out here in the cold. What kind of service would I provide if it didn't mean making you comfortable the best way I can? This is supposed to be a learning experience to. I hope you are getting a nice eyeful of all the things you are seeing and learning out here today."

Opal folded her arms over the busty chest of the woman as she looked to her left, "Alright. Break time's over, let's go down that path and see if we can find anything else worth scavenging. My energy is almost back up, so I can take on another mob soon. By the way, what type of weapon are you planning on to be proficient in?"

Taking a deep breath and getting up from the rock I followed Opal down the path. She seemed helpful enough, I decided I could trust her and I feel as if having someone like her around would be a great asset. Laughing at the memory of her turning into a streak of light and gutting those wolves I answered her question " I've spoken to a few other players to get a basic understanding as to which weapons would suit my interests and although one of them highly stressed I go for what you use I am defiantly leaning toward the one-handed curved sword. I'm not completely sure why but it seems to feel right to me" I unsheathed my sword and moved it back and forth in front of me. " It just feels good in my hand and I can connect well to it, It's also pleasing to the eye" I walked with heavy steps trying to look for any nodes under the snow but it was no use not any that I could find "I would like to get a better blade though this one is just the simple starter item I spawned with when I logged in."

OOC: I'll do my rolls after the RP so it'll be less confusing on ya. :)

"One handed curved swords are awesome with crowd control. AoE is always going to be handy and you'll be able to kill groups of mobs a lot faster as well. These weapon types are pretty important to have in the front lines as well. Don't be surprised if you end up becoming a Dreg Slayer in Floor Raids, that is if you plan on becoming part of the Assault Force."

Opal had explained that the curved sword was indeed a very good weapon, she knew Jevi was a user of the blade as well and she had wielded it with such grace. Opal on the other hand, only used it as a stepping stone to get to the katana. Her late Master Myoga was a man that taught her everything she needed to know of not just the blade but the responsibility that came with it as well. Holding the ornate saya in her hand, she smiled, "The Masamune has been my partner for a while now. There is a irreplaceable bond here with my weapon. You should feel lucky when a sword answer your call in such dire of situations." Opal flicked a curtain of black hair from her eye as they continued their secondary objective of material gathering. In the cold blanket of the air, Opal hunkered down and spread her hand over the snow instead of kicking it up as she normally would. In attempt to discern if the snow had any good properties to it. And she found just that, scooping out a vial from her inventory, the woman dragged her hand through the snow and collected a sample of it.

"Here ya go, Coddexx. A fresh vial of snow...for whatever reason. Once it goes into your inventory though it just becomes a generic name. Also, my energy is replenished. I'll start scouting out for another mob to slay."

" Thanks for the snow" I laughed as I kept walking with her. " It's kinda weird how if I were a blacksmith I could craft a sword with a vial of snow." As we kept walking I looked at the ground seeing If I could add more snow to my collection. Yet unfortunately the only shiny thing I saw was the glint of the blade in my hand. I thought to myself how true Opal's words were " You weren't kidding finding materials really can be a pain in the ass." I kicked more at the snow wishing it had thousands of tiny vials that i could bag up and take with me yet sadly there was only the one in my bag.

"No problem." Opal said smiling over towards Coddexx. With her energy replenished, it was time to look and slay another mob group. Her amber eyes shifted into the cold tundra as she spotted a fierce looking group of Ice Golems. Their crystalline bodies shined in the rising sun, illuminating their bodies like brilliant stars.

"Alright, Coddexx. You stay here and watch from a distance. Golems are nasty creatures...I'll wave you over when the battle is over."

Opal took to the bitter cold winds racing forwards with her Masamune drawn. The silver blade would not pulsate with life however as she smashed her way through the thick armor of the mobs, only to have her sword bounce off their strong armored bodies. "[censored]..." Opal engaged her <<Acrobatic>> skill as she danced and weaved through two powerful punches from the Ice Golems, however shortly after the twist, she was bombarded with two direct hits to her body by large frozen ice boulders knocking her back.

"Alright, so you wanna play that kind of game..."

Seeing the blow of Opal's Katana I felt a bit surprised. " I guess everyone has to miss sometime" I thought to myself. I took the opportunity of staying back from the battle to look for some Materials. I hid behind a patch of underbrush watching from a good distance. I looked in the brush trying to find something of use but sadly it was in vain. I returned my attention back to the ice golems and felt a twinge in my gut. I'm so glad Opal came along there is no way I would even stand a chance against those things. I will have to work a little harder to get my stats up before I can even consider going after mobs like that.

The Masamune was now imbued with a silvery and ivory glow as it pulsated with light. The woman had started with a slow walk towards her enemies. The blade continued to shine like a brilliant star as she moved through the horde with unprecedented movements of her blade. The shimmering power swept across their bodies like they were made of nothing, and left sweep and then right to complete the motion. The Ice Golems buzzed for a moment before their eyes went back to the raven haired woman. Their heavy bodies attempted to take down the speedy Katana wielder, yet unsure of their target as she seemed to move quicker than the eye could see. But one had got the jump on her, finding herself caught between two cold arms where she was seemingly crushed from a massive, yet chilly bear hug before she was let go.

Seeing the bright glow of her katana as her sword art charged gave me a longing for higher skills and the ability to use some of my own. She cut through the golems doing a noticeable amount of damage.  Yet as she dodged three of the fours attack I saw one hit her hard between its fists.

Amazed by her armor and the lack of effect the golems attack I decided to get a little closer to watch the fight.  "This is what I long for. A type of adventure where I can be able to go through hell unscathed.

Looking on the ground trying to find some more materials I thought I saw a glint of a node. Yet as I touched it it popped up a window that said there were no usable materials. After dismissing the window I returned my attention back to Opal and the golems as she readied herself for another attack.

It was something of an art form for Opal, and it gave her such pride when she was able to rip through mobs in such an easy fashion. Despite whatever hardships had come about in the past, it was moments like this that made her reflect how long she had come to get this sort of power and she was not even maxed out yet which was a goal to obtain for the future. Eyes sought out the Ice Golems as their larger bodies rumbled with the growl of their cavernous bodies. A glow of silver and ivory made its way through the length of the Katana as she swept the blade left and then right over their crystal forms until they had shattered into billions of fragmented pieces.  Flicking the blade outwards, Opal turned her head towards Coddexx and waved, "All clear, Sug!" she said in a bit loud to get his attention. After she called out to him, she sheathed her Masamune back into the ornate sheath and folded her arms over her chest and wondered where to take him next. It was time to go and find that Avalanche.

Coming out of my hiding spot I went down to meet Opal at the site of the battle and picked up the four piles of frozen rock that the golems had left behind. "No col?" I said looking at opal with a look of slight disappointment. " Better luck next time I guess." We continued onward trying to find the spawn point of the field boss. "Thanks for the materials by the way. I've started to get a pretty good collection of them." wanting some more to add to my inventory I kept my eye's toward the ground trying to look for some plant that would be of use. However all that I saw were small tufts of grass frozen by the chill. " so how did you make your treasure hunter gear? How many enhancements can you add to increase your odds of finding better loot?"

"Sadly no, it's not always a successful strike for loot. But I don't mind, I am doing this for you, not for me." Coddexx had thanked Opal for her help in the collection of materials. The woman smiled with cherry red lips and gave a small nod in his direction, "It's no problem, I am happy to help. It is both an honor and privilege to help players out." the raven haired maiden said as they continued their brisk adventure through floor four. Coddexx was full of questions, which was a good thing. The more he learned about the game, the easier it would become on later in the future and sometimes reading the Player's Handbook, with all the mass of information it stored, could be intimidating to navigate at times.

"If you are wanting to go hunting, I would suggest you visit a performer. They can create an item (Monster Call-Perfect Item:+3 LD)  that will attract special breeds of monsters that will raise the luck on you getting loot. Then there is the fishermen's of SAO, you can ask them to fish for something (Vitamin Fish) that will give you a raw increase in loot findings as well. If you are lucky to find this off a fisherman, than congrats on that. You can eat the fish raw of course, or you can take it to a chef and have them prepare it with another snack (you can take the fish and ask for a chef to add it into another item to give that item a boost in Vitamins). Artisans can create trinkets and charms that will also give you a small boost in luck for finding loot as well. Tailors can create a plushie or a clothing item to also help you with searching for loot, but for equipment the max you can get is a +2. So there are plenty of ways to boost ways to get a higher luck for finding loot, you just might be spending a lot of items doing so getting those items. Also, fishing is difficult and you wont see many players picking up that profession these days."

Opal had said a mouthful, she took a moment to collect her thoughts after that dizzying explanation. Hopefully Coddexx was able to understand most of it, if not she would just highlight the area of his Player Handbook and have him read it next time. In her time explaining about helping him get better loot, Opal had found a shiny looking jewel that reminded her of an emerald. Finding it worth to be something, she called out to her partner and tossed it to him.
