F2-PP) Distressed Mother (Let there be light)

Recommended Posts

@Eatos

Sky couldn't help but be a little annoyed at this. He had seen a distressed mother who had given him the quest to go find the lost child... in the cave... again.... He had done this before, but he didn't remember ANYTHING from it, it was AGES ago... He sighed, deciding to send a message to Eatos.

Eatos, you free? If so, want to come do this boring quest? I can keep ya safe, so don't worry about dying

After the message was sent, he sat down at the edge of the town. He didn't want to do this quest again, it was probably a different girl this time.... but still. He was annoyed at the mother, how could she let her son go into a cave on his own!!! I mean, a little boy? Why. It was such a stupid idea... He sighed, making sure his gloves were on right, as well as his necklace and that his suit was clean.

The 4th floor, the floor of ice and cold, was where Eatos loved to spend her time. It reminded her of home in so many ways, so it was no surprise, to those who knew the girl. The cold is where she belonged, where she bloomed. So at Frostbite lake was a very common place to find the Blacksmith 'Support' player. Her combat capacity, despite being a blacksmith, was woefully inadequate and focused on healing and helping others than being a soldier herself. As such, the girl, sitting at Frostbite Lake, was singing. Having grown up in the snow, she found it easier on her voice to sing in the colder weather.

Her voice died as she heard the message noise, and opened it up. A message from Stryder? A boring quest? Well, all she was doing was singing, which she'd been doing all day. While she did enjoy singing, she should get to doing something else. She opened up her messaging system and sent him a quick reply.

"I'll be there soon, i'm up on the 4th floor so I might be a little while"

Closing it, she took a deep breath and looked out over the lake one final time. If there was nothing else, there was Frostbite lake for her. That was all she needed, to survive. With that in her mind, she walked to the town, entered the portal, and moved down to the 2nd floor where Stryder was awaiting for her.

Sky watched as Eatos came out of the portal, smiling seeing his friend. The first thing she would notice was he wasn't wearing the sword she had made for him, and instead he had gloves on, which had star patterns and glowed. If she looked closely, she might see the necklace that was around his neck. He had been waiting for her, so that they could go do this quest and save the mothers daughter or son, whichever it turned out to be.

"Hey Eatos, long time no see!!!" He said, standing up off the wall he was sitting on, landing on his feet.

"The quest is called Let There Be Light, hope your not scared of caves!!!" He said to her, doing a little ghost hand thing to try and scare her as a joke. He laughed a little before he sat down again, sighing. He just wanted to get this over and done with. He knew that the boss of this quest was going to be WAY to easy.... He was going to pretty much one shot it....

The blacksmith did indeed notice many things about Stryder. First, and one that felt far more personal than it should have, was his distinct LACK of blade. While the gloves weren't too surprising, given his martial arts abilities, it was the necklace that caught her very by surprise. It was a very odd items for him to have, not because it was a necklace per say, but more specifically, it didn't fully fit him. It was hard for her brain to put into words, but its design wasn't for him. That much she did know.

She had no idea what the quest was, she'd never heard the name before, and thus, didn't know it was about saving a defenceless innocent child from harm. While she herself wasn't a huge fan of small children, and had no intention, as of being trapped within SAO, to have one, they didn't deserve such a cruel fate.

She did frown at him when he tried to cause a laugh with his hands. Such actions made no sense to her, she'd never found the dark scary for, at a young age, her parents told her the reason why so many were. 'It's the lack of knowing if something is within the dark, that is what you're afraid of. So know that, no matter what may lurk within the dark, it can be stopped'.

"Let there be light?" She asked and echoed the quests' name "Somehow I feel this isn't going to be a religious quest about the creation of the world" Her question came off as extremely sarcastic, and in a way, she had intended it to be. Her attempt at jokes were still much to be desired.

"Its a quest in which we go into a cave, find a child and bring him or her to its crying mother over there" He said, pointing to the side to a NPC crying. It was her routine to do, she would be there until the quest was completed, which just made him feel worse. He wanted to get her child back as soon as possible.... With that, he stood up, ready to travel and get this whole mess over and done with.

"So, hows buisness?" He asked, wondering if she had any luck recently. He had, having gotten a MASSIVE order from Teion, which he had done, but having failed to meet her requirements, which he hated. He wanted to get that perfect for her, but he had no tier two materials, so he couldn't keep going. He looked at his stats, level three tailor.... He couldn't wait till he went higher, and got himself to rank ten, but he knew that was going to take forever, but he would make it. Just like he would survive long enough to get all the skills he wanted..... It was just going to take time.

Despite all the time she'd spent within the SAO world, Eatos was still struggling with one of the critical aspects of the world. The NPC's. She could tell by the way Stryder had worked his original message, and his attitude when explaining what they would be doing, that he had done this before. It was a quest, a generated event that would occur again once she'd moved on. All of this she knew, and she still felt a tug on the heartstrings looking at the mother crying for their child. Despite knowing that it was all a computer, a bunch of numbers, it still got to her...She'd get better, in time. But she wasn't there yet.

"Business has been...slow" While her smithing rank was respectable, she'd barely had any orders other than member of the guild. No outsiders had some asking for her crafts, and she was low on minerials meaning levelling up was a slower process until she got an influx of materials to work with. "There are a lot of other blacksmiths around, and since i'm one of the lower skilled ones, well, people don't come to me" She had been planning on trying different ways to improve business. One of them, the one she liked the most, was comparing her own prices with the prices of others. If she was cheaper, she had a better chance at getting customers because, unlike in the real world, having a cheaper cost wouldn't make her starve.

Made sense, there was a lot more talented tailors then him out there.... But unlike Eatos, he just wanted to help people. He didn't care about the Col so much, he mainly liked seeing people come back, being alive was enough for him.

"Sorry to hear that, if i had more Col, or a real need for some better gear i would come to you and give you some work, but i don't really need anything else" He said, a little upset at not being able to help his friend out. He knew this quest would be what they needed to get some col in there pockets. He looked around, hoping to see some materials though failing to see anything.

"Come on, sunlights burning, were not going to save the little thing by standing around all day" He said, wanting to just get this over and done with. He didn't want to go back to that dam cave, but he had to, and we was going to do it!!!

+Similar to Stryder, Eatos did want to help people. However unlike him, she couldn't do it his way. She would do it the way she'd known, the way of a business women. She wanted to earn Col, income had always been a massive reward for her. Even at a young age, she'd worked and learnt of its importance. So she indulged herself with her own money, treated herself as she desired through her own ability to earn money. She wanted to help, but everything came at a price...Nothing in the real world came for free.

"It'll be fine. I just need to check out the other smiths, see their prices, get my level up and beat them. I'm not going to starve if my prices are down, unlike in the real world, meaning if i'm cheaper than my competition. They'll come to me" It wasn't a revolutionary approach to business, in fact, many companies had done this very style to save themselves going under. With her mind on her business, she spotted something off to the side, and walked over, drawing out her pickaxe from her inventory. She raised it high above her head and slammed it into the ground, successfully finding a deposit of ores and acquiring them. She grinned, now she could finally get to work. Her newest ability working its magic after all.

"So, what's in the cave? You've done this before right?" While she was certain he had, she wanted to ensure she knew what she was about to walk into.

Sky nodded, her buisness idea making sense. The lower the price, the more likely people wanted to come to you. He wasn't a bushiness man, but he knew that much. He sighed, knowing she was going to ask that at some point.

"Its a dark cave where its nearly impossible to see, and in it is a child who is being trapped by a massive bat.... Don't worry, if i hit it its dead" He says to her, knowing it was going to be easy. He could fight most enemies he encountered and survive, and come out on top with relative ease.

"We will be there in about half an hour"  He said to her, shrugging. It was a boring walk, so he decided to attempt to find some materials, only to fail, and only to see her get four materials in one swing!!!! He was insanely jealous, she had managed to get THAT many.... Must be a skill she picked up, which he was simply impressed with. He didn't say anything, deciding to just let it slide.

Well, Stryder made it sound easy. But then again, he knew what they were facing, while she could only guess. He did mention a bat, and darkness. Darkness of itself didn't frighten her, she wasn't a young girl after all. She knew the fear of the dark wasn't in fact all that, the fear was actually caused from a lack of knowledge. It wasn't the dark that made people afraid, but what could be lurking within the dark that made young children frightened.

As for the actual upcoming fight, she had faith in Stryder. In all of the fights they'd been involved in, she was certain she'd taken a grant total of 0 damage in all of them. Although, even with that knowledge, she had made something to keep herself safe. While she would be having Stryder help her, she wouldn't be completely defenceless. She began walking with Stryder, only to trip into a dimply, falling onto her stomach with a groan of annoyance. She opened her eyes, but spotted nothing that would be useable, and so, stood up.

"The walk isn't all that bad...Besides, this time, I've got something to look after me" As she spoke, she opened her inventory and equipped a new piece of armour. Sins' Protection. Her own custom-made chest plate that covered her body and arms. It didn't appear to be anything special, metallic in colour and the design was a rather simple single-plated cover. Hell, there wasn't even one of the girls' commonly used symbols on the armour, no Ouroboros symbol, nothing. Of course, the special effects of her armour only activated when the wielder regenerated health, something she hadn't done...yet.

He watched as she put in some more armor, it looked pretty simple. It seemed more to protect then for looks, a little... unlike his armor, but he had a trick himself, a new armor piece... But until he got a pet, he had no use trying to even use it!!! He would just take TO much damage.... So for now, he decided to keep it to himself.

"About time you got yourself some armor, though you shouldn't really need it, i'l take all the hits, if any come" He said, acting a tiny bit cocky, knowing that this bat was no issue for him at all. He looked around for materials, but found nothing... As normal, though Eatos had failed also, tripping which made him feel a little okayish.

After about half an hour they had arrived, the dark cave being in front of them, and you could barely see more then a meter or two inside.

"Well, here we are...."

The 30 minute walk actually was rather pleasant, the girl's mind had, as was usual with her, roamed the infinite plane of possibilities and she daydreamed. Somehow, despite her head being in and beyond the clouds, the girl avoided all trees and a majority of ditches, only stumbling a few times throughout their entire trip. Although, she would have walked into the cave without a thought in the world had Stryder not spoken up. Returning to the world around them, she looked up first to spot what had been lovely blue skies had turned to dark gloomy ones with grey clouds threatening to open up and make them drowned.

"The sky looks pretty bad" She stated what was, definitely, the obvious. "This is the cave? It's kinda dark in there, will we be able to see anything?" Despite that question, the girl look the proactive position, walking forwards and poking her head inside. Yup, she could barely see in there, and they were meant to find a child and kill stuff? How was she going to hit something she couldn't see?

"How am I meant to find something if I can't even see anything?" She asked herself as she walked forwards, still mostly on auto-pilot from the walk before.

Why was she walking in.... Sky was really confused, not knowing why she would just wonder into a cave. He ran in after her, though instantly lost track, he couldn't see [censored], everything was black. He groaned loudly, a little pissed about this, he had lost her!! He had no idea where she was!!!!

Sky suddenly felt like somethign was watching.... He had NO idea what, but something was watching him, he didn't know what it was.... Suddenly, he felt something dig right into his shoulder, though he didn't react. He knew what it was, and it SUCKED..... He sighed, watching his HP drain before he leaped up, doing a full three sixty before power kicking the bat, sending it smashing into the wall, and with the kick, smashing a second one with the body of the bat that he had hit. He saw his questlog changed, which made him think he must have killed the bat.

"EATOS, WATCH OUT, BATS" He called out, not knowing where she was.

Unknowlingly to her, two bats decended onto her, one swiping her with its wing, the other sinking fangs into her neck.

The girl was completely oblivious to the coming dangers, unaware of the bats looming nearby as she walked down the dark cave. She had returned to her daydreaming, had forgotton about Stryder and the dangers that could possible fill the cave. It was only when she heard Stryders' distant voice that she woke up, and that's when she spotted them. Bats, two of them getting nice and close to her! She grabbed for her blade, but it was too late as both of them bit at her.

She didn't scream, but froze as her health, for the first time in her life, dropped below 100%. 144/160. At first the girls' heart stopped out of fear. Of course, that lasted for barely a moment as the bats backed away and she got a grip on her weapon, Rapier of Wrath. Not only that, but her HP moved from 144 up to 158/166. Her Battle Healing regaining her 5HP, as well as her Regen of her armour, Sins' Protection, giving her +9HP whenever she took damage. But that was far from its' only affect. As she gained HP, her armour changed colour, from what was its metallic silver, into a shifting black, as if the shadows themselves coated her armour and regenerated her health.

The girl raised her Rapier and swung it at one of the bats, successful cutting across its body and leaving a mark on it. She took a step backwards after landing her hit, watching her attackers. Even without Stryder, she was confident she'd be able to fight her way out of here. She just needed to kill them soon, before their damage did more than her regeneration..

The battle was over as quickly as it began. The bat came back for Sky, but with a swift motion, he hit it with a few kicks, then smashing it with a karate chop, using his delayed sword to hurl it into the ground, it instantly dying. He hadn't taken to much damage, only reason he had taken so much was due to dam gang attack, but he was fine now. He had no idea where Eatos was, remembering he had once again forgotten to add her to his party!!! He hoped she was okay... He had no way to know if she was alive or not, or how many bats were trying to kill her. For all he knew, it could be three or four trying to kill her!!! She wouldn't survive!!! Unless... Her armor, she had equipped it, maybe something about it was special and made her take way less damage? Maybe mitigation.... Or maybe something else. He wanted to find out, and started searching for his lost companion.

The girl raised her Rapier against her two attackers, her armour looking like an army of shadows protecting her. Within the darkness of the cave, however, the girl was struggling to keep track of her enemies. Not only was their flapping and moving erratic, but the darkness itself acted as a shield for them. But she knew she couldn't sit back and let them attack her, she had to do something! Tightening her grip on her Rapier, she thrust the blade forwards towards one of the bats, and took a step forwards to continue her charge!...

Right into a small hole, where she stumbled, collapsed onto the ground with a pained groan. The bats, seemingly noticing her moment of weakness, struck, pouncing onto her back and clawing at her, dragging her HP down to 146. However, this time, Eatos didn't panic nearly as much as she had when she first took damage. This time was different. She was calm, battle, while it frightened her, wasn't as bad as she feared. The bats she was fighting didn't do too much damage, and her regeneration was proving capable of healing her despite the damage she was taking.

She scrambled to her feet, Rapier in hand. She grinned partly as her armours' ability, and her own Battle Healing, kicked into affect once again. From 146 up to 160. She quickly calculated that she was healing for 14 HP, while these bats were seemingly only able to deal 12. The girl grinned, this battle had just become a game of numbers, and these numbers favoured her!

As Sky ran around, trying to find eatos, he felt something grab onto his arm, biting him. He didn't react, instead instantly striking down on its jaw, pushing it off, before turning and using Delayed Sword, delivering kicks to soft points before smashing its neck, slamming it into the ground so hard it bounced. It was a wolf, Sky knew it from the impact. A dam wolf. He had done some damage, but he had taken forty damage since he entered this cave. He had no regen, and this was the most damage he had EVER taken... Ever. He was fighting to many!!!

"EATOS, YOU ALIVE!!" He called out, wanting to know if his companion was still alive. He begged she was, he had no idea how her fight was going, if she was even in one. He hoped not, he hadn't really seen her trying to fight to much before, but he had a feeling she would be able to defend herself alright. He had been lucky, they had gotten close enough that he hadn't any issue seeing them, so  the dark was no real issue for him.

Eatos was unaware of Stryders search for her, in reality, the only thing she was focusing on was the pair of bats in front of her. She blocked out reality itself, including Stryders yell for her. She took a deep breath as she tightened the grip on her weapon, the Rapier of Wrath. The beautifully decorated weapons' tip pointed at the first bat, the one she'd struck previously. Although in the dark, it was impossible to tell if what she was pointing her weapon at was actually a bat, or if it was just a point rock. Although, she knew that she didn't have the time to hesitate! So she charged forwards, thrusting the tip of her blade in a piercing motion!

That target that was aiming at, the bat, easily dodged by strike by moving to the left ever so slightly, so the blacksmiths' blade clashed into the rocky wall with a clang. Seemingly able to notice her weakness, the pair of bats struck instantly, once again clawing at her back and dropping her HP down to 148. Eatos quickly spun around, forcing the bats off of her once again. And, once again, with armour that looked like moving-living shadows, her HP regenerated. Battle-Healing and Regen combined to boost her back up to 160 HP.  She grinned, she was back to 100% HP, and even if she kept missing, the bats simply couldn't kill her anymore.

Sky could hear the wolf, it wasn't quiet. It was a wolf, in its own environment, it was sure it was going to win, though it was dead wrong. As it came for Sky, he quickly side stepped, pushing the wolf into the ground and then continued to kick it, delivering his Delayed Sword art again, smashing its neck with his hand. He had fought a lot of wolves, none of them had been easy. This one wasn't either, it had real strength. Most of the time when he fought stuff, it was a large thing like a boar, a wolf was something small that he could easily miss with an over-swing or could jump back. He knew he was getting insanely lucky. He was worrying though, he hadn't heard back from Eatos for a while, for all he knew she was dead from wolves!!! Or from some dam bats!!! He really hoped she wasn't, he hadn't lost anyone yet, and he didn't plan to.

The girl was struggling in her own fight against two bats. She'd landed only a single hit on them and that was it, while they had been clawing at her since she'd arrived. Her only saving grace was Sins' Protection. Her most recent piece on her forge, and it was keeping her alive with its Regen bonus. a +9HP every time she was hit, meaning that the bats were striking with not enough damage! Each time, they'd seemingly waited for her to strike before attacking, so the girl was ensuring she didn't mess it up this time.

However, she spent so long focusing on getting prepared, that when the bats struck first, she was caught off-guard! She flailed about to get their claws off of her, swinging her Rapier but missing in the frenzy that was their assault. Eventually, they declawed themselves from her and she took a step backwards, giving herself room between the bats and herself. The girls' armour, as black as shadows, moved over the metal. Shadows protecting and healing her when needed, like right now. Her HP went back up to 100%, and she allowed herself a breath of air. She might not be able to hit them often, but with her regeneration, they simply couldn't kill her. It was an impossibility for them to deal more damage than she was capable of regening, so it was impossible for low level mobs to successfully kill her.
