  1. I propose that maybe as a community we come up with a more comprehensive quick guide;

The fans, users, members here (not including staff) is free to make up topic, hot sheet, quick guide, or their version of the official rules on what to do, where to start, who to talk to; or their own perspective that helps them. Regretfully we do have one but they may not seem easy to read by some, depends on the reader. But that's true for any other narrative.

kind of a like "Bare Minimum that you need to know to do well."  guide.

    I got one, don't die!

I am thinking that we should probably do a poll to see what shall be included in the guide, that if this proposal makes it that far.

You don't need my permission, but you have my blessings!

Also, (I am being a bit picky here) if there was some way to better organize important and concrete information; that would be lovely.

Great topic/discussion to start here in the Support and Feedback section.

I am trying to find a GM to ask to close out my completed threads, however, I don't know who else to message other than the ones I had previously. I do remember stumbling upon a list somewhere a while back, regardless, it was in an ambiguous area and I can no longer find it.

    Is this your card?

    http://www.sao-rpg.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=stats&do=leaders

It's found on the main page, at the bottom, between the who's online and the Facebook comments.

Lastly, maybe to make things easier on GM's and make the process more fluid.  Create a sort of entry way that one will be able to submit their completed thread to, and then that information will be sent to an external site in which all GM's would have access to.  There they would be able to remove the notices of the ones that they have closed and leave notes for the other GM's to see that one had notified the person that there was an issue.  I am personally not a programmer, however I know others; maybe this is possible?  This is just an idea I am throwing out there since I have a feeling that the GM's get slammed from time to time.

Meh, I been barking up that tree for a long time when I bought the unused "blogs" section up top for the staff to test and try. I wanted it to be like an all in one place for players to create their character sheets, update their progresses and topic competitions, and a place for staff to leave notes and comments as well as individual evaluation approvals unlike the individual topics found in the newly created evaluations forum section. But I lost that battle.

but I like the idea about having an external location to submit (can be as similar to google docs) and have GM's approve each roleplay thread that way.

I really don't, Google Docs is nice but not universal on all platforms. Try loading one on a console's browser. Hence why I tell my staff to keep all discussions and posts here on the site itself and not through an external place to make all information easy, accessible, and all in one location.

Also, Destiny, I think that list that you were referring to was taken down, I do not think it was updated often enough to warrant it be active, as I do remember it stating PST were the ones to lock roleplays and not GMs, but it was also somewhat hard at times keeping track who was a PST and who was not

  2. May I apply for the Player Support Team?

    please apply correctly

    Player Support Team

    • The Player Support Team (PST) will be the group of people who answer all questions about the site. These are the first people you go to if you have any type of question at all. This group will prime players as future GM's and will be the first ones looked at if a spot is opened. However there are requirements to join the PST. Applicants must apply to Shark
  3. Looks like Tristan is correct. Even though you switch to Full Version of the site, it still treats it as a Mobile version and doesn't have the WYSIWYG editor like desktop versions do. My only suggestion would be to find a web browser app on your mobile device can actually trick a site into thinking it's a browser.

  4. The "Blogs" were originally my intention to host character sheets aka Journals here on the new site and to host individual evaluations in each persons "blog" and would be approved by the GMs. However the GM's debunked my offer to keep things the way they were. Now I'm deciding whether to implement them as Guild pages instead. We'll see someday.

  5. Just a security precaution, never post a link to the administrator control panel of your site. There are a few ways people can help you, but if someone is going to do all the work for you, what will you ever learn in return? How will you manage and maintain it if your goto person goes on vacation? Or quits? And if you have no plans or ambition of doing the work yourself, why not just find an RPG site that has the qualities your looking for and be a player there or someday join their staff team. Anywho, if your intent was sharing this link just for hits and advertisement, we do not allow that kind of behavior here and the link will be delete and your account here given a warning strike.

  6. See, I am confused by all of this. All I see is that some of you like the 'old' system, some of you like the 'new' system, and some of you are indifferent. And as to integrating the dice system into the posts, couldn't you just like, attach it to the post. I mean this: Let's say that before you make a post, there is the dice thingy to the side, and it shows what the rolls you got were (like we normally see beside our post). Now, you use those rolls to do all the math and such that you need to, and then you post. When you post, there is a small abbreviated column or somesuch that shows what that player's roles were for that post. And you cannot quote or any of that. This way, the player posting saw exactly what rolls they have, and everyone else sees exactly what their roles were, too.

Basically, you see your dice roles before the post, but cannot tweak or change them, and everyone else can see them too, once the post is made.

This "is" the argument. If it "could" be done, it would have already been done. But I don't know how, hence the problem.

  7. The more obvious answer to me is, if we could have migrated over the old dice system, we would have. But we couldn't, or more to the point, I couldn't.

We were up on the fence on this for MANY MANY MANY months, we weighed all the pro's and the con's during that time. This was NOT an overnight decision on how to shoot ourselves in the foot. Many players expressed the need and want for more features on the site that was not part of the default. Sure we could have simply taken the time to modify the whole site to meet all those needs, but the quicker solution was to migrate the forum software to a more modern one instead of the 6 year old forum software we had been using, and then figure out a dice alternative then. The whole if it ain't broken don't fix it did apply, the site software itself needed an overhaul. And applying those fixes to it and then finding the need to make them compatible each time it got an update from the developer would become time consuming and bothersome for our and my end.

So here we are with the software we needed to provide you with the open possibilities (many of which haven't been used still), to give to all players to enjoy. Then of course the issue with the dice system still remains. We did look at many routes on the dice here. My solution was the "trust" dice that you see on every posting page. Cindel was the one who wanted a more secure non-cheating method hence the off-site dice recorder. Another alternative was have the GM's choose what dice outcomes you players received but that would still revert back to that "trust" issue. And another choice was simply remove dices from posting altogether, and go back to RP'ing basics i.e. quality over quantity in postings.

The real reasons I never attempted to rebuild what I built on the old site was because I never developed for or understand how this forum software (IPB) works, I knew the old (PHPBB) because I used to help develop for it. Don't believe me, look up the name Ethalic and the add-on Advanced Dungeons and Rabbits. I knew everything there is to know about PHPBB, I know where all the data is pulled, how it's perceived, how it is stored, and where the functions are handled. But IPB eludes me as a mystery box where stuff goes in, and stuff comes out; basically. So it's not as simple as copy/paste; because you need to know where the posts for the forum module is located and where it is stored in the database. And how to pull that information for each individual posts.

Could players have cheated on the old system? Absolutely! Many complaints and players abused or ignored the old dice system. Previously at the old site you could have simply deleted your posts until you got the dice rolls you wanted and no one but staff would have known the wiser. Some people just flat out ignored their rolls, mostly because they didn't realize they appeared AFTER you had made the post and how do you write a post without knowing the outcome? Hence why my "trust" dice appears prior to hitting the post button.

If people are underhanded, they will find ways to bend or twist things to meet their goals. This is why this site and most others have a "staff team" to help moderate and control said abuse. However they can not be everywhere, always online, and catch everything. This is why we need more staff around and present and volunteering to do the under-thanked appreciated job that they do for all of us and for you.
