  1. Rewards and Curses

Note: If you got more than one riddle correct you still receive the previous rewards.  For example if you got all 3 correct, you would get all 3 rewards.  This applies for incorrect answers too. You may have got 2 correct, and one wrong.  In this case you would receive reward 1 and 2, but still suffer the curse consequence.  Thanks for playing!

  3. What's this for? You need a server and database before you can do anything.  I don't think HTML5 can access server side databases, you'd still have to include something like PHP or ASP.  Or at least javascript using node.js so it can run server side.  PHP is probably the easiest for this, (also why this and many other forums run off PHP).  But like I said earlier there's a lot involved. Which part do you exactly need help with?

  4. Cydel, at a quick glance, will the mob dice be intergrated into the searches. I did a quick search of my previous dices, and noticed that the mob dice was not found at all. Other than that, I like your system a lot, its easy to use, and it takes cheating out of it. :)

Just a quick question with the looting dice, will the numbers be adjusted in the future as it currently shows d25 (according to the loot, col, materials guide) rules, but the loot dice is d20. I do understand that is not as important as getting the current dice system running in the short term, but hopefully thats on the radar somewhere down the road to take a look at.

That's intentional.  Its because there are lots of ways to get +LD which makes rolls above 20 possible. I'll have the MOB values added to the search results in future on the Perma roller.

  5. Double, double toil and trouble;

    Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

    A Witch's riddle for the mind;

    Its okay if you dare be clever;

    Answer the following riddles true!

Take just one or maybe two?

Nay! you say, you want all three?

Fine! Okay, if you answer to me!

    ?? Riddles ??

"If you only eat me, you'll die.
If you're rich, you need me. But if you're poor you might have me.
I'm higher than infinity, but could also be zero.

    What am I?"

"You'll find me at the beginning of eternity and at the end of time.
I begin every end and am the end of every place.
    What am I?"

"You don't have to know what I am to refer to me.
Be specific and you might not find me.
You might even say I could be nothing.
I'm the correct answer to all three of these witch riddles!
But be careful, you could answer with me and still be wrong!
    What am I?"

    OOC:

You may roleplay in this thread, but Do Not post your riddle answers here!!  Answers to riddles must be sent via PM to me to qualify for rewards. You may RP it out as whispering to the Witch. You can answer any number of riddles, the more you get correct the greater the reward.  But watch out!  A wrong answer comes with a cost! Each character may only attempt to answer once, there's no second chances. Take some time to think, but don't wait too long! Or when you come back, the witch might be gone :)

    Players cannot attack the witch.

  6.

Q1) When it states 'any item of your choosing' I assume I can make up an item and send it to a GM?

Q2) Mats are materials yes? They are used for crafting?

Q3) ' Any type of good item'  what does that mean? I tried looking for an item list but found none, do I just make up a 'good item' like, boar meat/hide or something like that?

    1. Yes.  Item enhancements have to be valid though.

    2. Yep, materials (mats) are components for crafting.

    3. 'Good' item just means normal item with no enhancements but aren't vanity items.  A regular sword, or a piece of armor would be good items.  Eventhough they have no enhancements they still have an effect on gameplay. (weapon can do damage, armor can mitigate damage)

Following is from the General Game Rules thread:

    Items and Equipment

    • Equipment and consumable items come in ranks of Quality: Good, Uncommon, Rare, and Perfect. These items effect gameplay in some way. They could be armor, a weapon, an accessory with enhancements or special foods. These items can only be acquired through gameplay mechanics.
    • Generic Items that have no effect on gameplay are considered 'vanity' items. These items could be clothing, accessories, toys, utensils etc...  The main difference they have to other items is they must have no stats, enhancements or any modifiers.  They simply exist to allow players to customize their characters via roleplay. These items don't have to be acquired through normal gameplay, but the roleplay should still support it.
    • Through gameplay, items can be acquired in many different ways. Monster drops, crafting professions, player shops, trades, quest rewards and GM events are some.
    • Items can also be acquired by obtaining loot from Treasure Chests.
    • Players may carry up to 6 items by default.  This can be increased through specific skills, items themselves or enhancements. Vanity items do not count towards this total. You may have as many vanity items as you wish.

  7. This is the point where I think its total madness someone hasn't scripted something where you can insert any picture (be it monster or you) and have a HP bar where you just type in the numbers and it'll do the correct bar size. I mean, people have even created whole android SAO themes, but not even this!

    Great edits btw :D

Hrmmm... I could actually do that.

  8.

Taking a super quick glance at the 3rd party system linked earlier by Cindel: to my assumption: it shows what was rolled to alleviate cheating? With the name search function you can search way back: or all the dice rolls the player used, which I think is a fantastic idea.

My ONLY concern would  be how logged would this get with multiple users using this system. It's fine now - but 6 months from now, there are going to be a butt tonne of rolls and a butt tonne of people.

Unless it was refreshed monthly or archived monthly?

The max cut off is most recent 200 entries. If you search a specific player it will be their most recent 200 entries.  I'll be adding an option to search by ID# in the future as well, so you could still look up an entry a year from now by entering the ID# referenced in the post the rolls were used in.  Despite only showing the most recent 200 rolls, all the data is still there and accessible by GM's.

  9. You're almost there.

Parry is just something you have to declare you're using.  You can do it whenever, but once you do you'll only deal half damage.  But also from that same point you only take half damage. You don't have to wait for someone to hit you before using it, by then it would be too late.  You can stop using it on any of your turns and then attack normally.  Parry has no skill ranks.  Once you have it, you have it.  It doesn't get improved in any way.

Evasion makes you harder to hit, forcing your opponent to incur penalties on their attack rolls.  Unlike parry evasion does have ranks. Other skills like sprint also give 1 point of evasion. Evasion is a fully passive skill and doesn't require you to do anything special.

  10. Thanks Cindel.

this document help me a bit

I was hoping to find there more about battle technique, Especially parry and evasion.

Can't for the next update, keep it up.

(I think writing the floor number in the quest title will help a lot to ^_^)

Information on parry and evasion can be found in the Skill System Guide which reads: (But after reviewing it myself... ugh, the Guide is very outdated on some things) :(

    Parry:

Investing in the Parry Skill allows a player to attempt to counter an enemy Sword Skill with one of their own. In the event of a successful Parry, a player may negate ½ damage, rounded up, with a minimum of one damage negated while dealing ½ damage, rounded up, with a minimum of one damage back to the attacker. In the event of a critical success in an attempted Parry, a player will negate all incoming damage from their parried attack or sword skill and will deal their full damage back to their opponent, calculated as a normal attack, with Weapon Skill Point bonuses included.

What this means is, instead of attacking you may declare that you are using parry for your combat action. (providing you have the skill).  While parrying the DMG you take is reduced by half. So an opponent who hit you for 6 would only end up doing 3 dmg on their turn.  On your turn you may counter attack with parry using the BD result as normal. However parry reduces your own DMG by half too.  So if you managed to hit your opponent and would normally do 5 damage, you'd end up doing 3 instead (half of 5 is 2.5, rounded up is 3). If you roll a 10 though, special circumstances apply letting you do full dmg (but not the bonus from a normal critical success.)  In addition you deflect all the damage of the next attack made against you. Note: if that attack misses you, that still counts.

Don't blame you for being confused though. The wording isn't great and leaves out valuable info.  A lot of these need to be rewritten and to a certain extent redesigned.

    Evasion:

For the purpose of this SAO system, Evasion works in conjunction with the sprint stat, and allows you to better evade incoming attacks. Against most random monsters in a non GM topic, that would involve just rolling a six or higher. Against a GM controlled opponent or another player that involves beating their attack roll. Evasion is the riskiest of the defense attempts, as failure means taking the full measure of damage, minus whatever your armor would reduce. However, success means completely evading the incoming attack/damage, so some might consider it a fair trade off. Much like Block, a player may then make an attempt at a counter attack. In this case both rolls are made from the Battle Die, with Skill and Equipment bonuses factored in.

Yikes! Ok, I have no idea why that's written like that.  I assume its left over from one of the older systems before my time. Evasion is actually pretty simple.  It just reduces your opponents BD result when they made an attack against you by X amount.  If you have 3 points of evasion, anyone making an attack roll against you must subtract 3 from their result before determining if they hit or not.  Accuracy helps people counteract this.

  11. Hey guys, i'm only 2 days here and already love this site.

You made a really cool staff here, keep it up!

Also i though about 2 things that can improve the experience of the users around, especially the new fellows.

    1. First, all the rules are really great and seem cool. But my problem is that feel like they are scattered around the forum with million of post ><.

I mean, I read  almost all the tutorials then i discover some new rules in the floors section. then I find out a new rule support and feedback forum that all the items should be list there.

Also there is a legend about "all in one" post that should explain the most of the mechanic, the link is broken and i couldn't find it

I think the best think to do is to list all the links to relevant rules, post and examples for new players in one pose.

More then that, make an example post about RP fighting while using block, parry, evasion and even looting. All that while showing the roll number result. I still didn't find out the the parry and evasion result list ><

    2. One more cool thing that will make the things around here more awesome, Its to write near each quest in the title in which floor is the quest. Like OOP\PP that you made. Its will make thinks more cool around here.

The site actually switched forum software earlier this month. Though the process went fairly smoothly it wasn't perfect.  A lot of the links broke because of this.  But more than that it changed the core dice system of our game.  We know the rule threads are a bit of a mess, cleaning them up is actually our top priority right now.  But before we could properly do that we had to determine exactly how we were going to implement the changes to the dice system. We've pretty much come to a decision now so expect to see some updates in the next few days.

Also, I recovered the missing All In One Guide which is now named General Game Rules and can be found in the tutorial section HERE. This is the thread most the broken links were trying to reach.

  12. How you play out the performer profession isn't really defined. I remember Gestien used to compose actual songs, I personally mostly just danced.  Poetry already would fit in perfectly, but other art forms could be added just as easily. How you role play it is up to you, the mechanics are simply to give it some use for gameplay.

  13. Cooking is the only profession that uses temp buffs and the new systems.  Alchemy and Performer are still on the old system.  Originally all the professions would have been updated by now, but the situation with the dice system has put everything on hold.

Taken from the Cooking Profession Guide:

    How do the buffs work?
Consuming cooking crafts (meals & beverages) will grant that player [TEMP BUFF]. This is important because these buffs are allowed to exceed the current permanent item buffs [PERM BUFF] caps. But, [TEMP BUFF] will not stack with other [TEMP BUFF]'s of the same type. So consume responsibly!  The type of buff is listed at the bottom of each enhancement. This primarily comes in to play when combining buffs with other professions [TEMP BUFF] such as the performer or alchemist.

    NOTE: Important!
In addition to the above, you may only ever have the effects of a single cooking consumable at any given time. You cannot eat two meals and receive buffs from both, even if they're different types. The above buff stacking is restricted to buffs from other professions only.

Basically the answer is yes.  The original intent was to allow Cooks, Performers and Alchemists give buffs to each other as well as the permanent item crafters (Smith, Tailor and Artisan).  Currently cooks can do it via food by making any of the following:

[Hearty][2][1] Allow craft rank additional craft attempts per day. May only benefit from Hearty meals once per day. Example: A rank 2 Cook applying Hearty to a rare meal would grant the following: Rare Meal +2 craft attempts for this day. Applied the debuff "I'm Full!" for 12 hours. You may not benefit from Hearty meals until 12 hours have passed since your last.

    Type: +Craft Attempt

[brain Food][2][1] Increase EXP gained from crafts or profession by 1 for the duration of the day. Cost two enhancement points.
    Type: +Craft EXP

[Essential Nutrients][3][1] Adds +1 to CD for the duration of the crafting day.
    Type: +Craft Die

If you were referring to something involving multiple crafters simultaneously then this probably will answer that: (Taken from the same thread)

    Feasts!
Feasts are not ready for implementation yet. The theory behind feasts is to bring multiple cooks together to create special food for a large player event. This may even include other professions like the performer for entertainment, tailor for costumes, smiths for silverware, etc... However this is something planned for the future! I put it here as a teaser.  :D
