    So do shields count as one of the three equipment slots or is it paired with it's weapon? Ex: Sword AND shield.

      So if i have a shield without enhancements i can have another piece of equipment on? I only need the shield for the block skill.

      Correct. You can wear as much gear as you want, but only 3 pieces can grant you bonuses for a total of +9

      If you have the shield for the block skill it still counts as an equipment slot
