  1. He clears his throat as he speaks. "Thinking over your next move, huh? Seems like I might be right, that orange cursor is more of a recent development, isn't it?" He pauses for a second as he looks over Seul, his eyes narrowing for a second before his features soften again. "You don't seem much like a PKer to me, though. Else I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you. So what was it, then? Self defense? I can't say I know how that whole PKing system works, I tend to stay away from combat, even more so PvP."

He turns to Hito, "And sorry about the lake." He rubs the back of his head with a hand as he smiles sheepishly. "Waking up at the bottom of a lake with your lungs filled with freezing cold water isn't my idea of a good time, so I kind of freaked out a little." Taking a second to finally look the girl over, he finally notices. "Actually, this is quite the long way for a sightseeing tour. That's still all the starting gear, right? I'd heard that quite a lot of people didn't leave the Town of Beginnings, but that was years ago. I figure if you were ever gonna decide to leave, it would've happened a while ago, so what brings you out here now?"

    @Seul@Hito

  2. Aquila returns to his seated position, leaning back against the tree as he strokes his beard.

"Floor 21 huh? Two years and we're still not even a quarter through..." He sighs wistfully as he leans his head back against the trunk. "Monument of Life... I can't say I made very many friends. I can only think of two off the top of my head, Rusty and Vashtor. Good kids, both of them, I can only hope I don't see their names."

He's broken out of his contemplation by the sudden arrival of two newcomers, a young girl who had presumably been listening in on them, and a young boy who came sliding in across the icy lake. "Well, this is quite a surprise, I didn't expect Frostbite Lake to be so popular these days, now that the front line is so far away." He beckons them over with a wave of his hand, his lips cracking into a slight smile now that he's regained his composure. "Mmm... I suppose it's a good thing, though. Damn near froze to death if it weren't for you." He said, gesturing towards Seul. Looking back at the other two, he gives them each an appraising glance. "So what brings you all out to this icy hell?"

  3. He crosses his arms as he closes his eyes and thinks back.

"Hmmm... now lets see... I believe it was right about... I dunno a day after they cleared the Floor 7 boss? Everyone was rushing up to the 8th, I'd just gotten my shop set up in 7 in Nimbus. I'd heard rumors about this place, thought I could find some rare crafting material or something, plus I heard it was a safe zone so it shouldn't have been too hard, right?" He grimaces as he uncrosses his arms and extends them towards the fire to warm up.

"My memory's pretty foggy, but some way or another I ended up in the drink. Something pulled me down into the lake, couldn't seem to shake it off. Made my peace and all before I passed out, but... here I am I guess." He swipes open his menu again, but pauses and his eyebrows furrow slightly as he seems to be looking intently at it.

"How long have I..." He seems to trail off as he opens another submenu, and as soon as he does his scowl turns into a look of shock.

"Two years!? I was under that [censored] lake for 2 years???" His voice has raised a bit into a shout at this point as he quickly navigates to another submenu.

"What the [censored]?? All of my items are gone! They're just question marks!" He swipes away his menu angrily as he looks up to @Seul

"What's happened in two years? What have I missed? Have they cleared the game yet??"

  4. After a while the man's vitals seem to have stabilized. He slowly cracks open his eyes, grimacing as the bright light burns into his corneas. After so long it seems his eyes have grown incredibly sensitive. After taking a moment to adjust to the light, he slowly sits up, the coat that was draped over him sliding down into his lap. He's slow to respond, his neck lazily craning down to let him examine it further, his hand shakily grabbing the fabric to inspect it. Seemingly realizing something, he looks up from the coat and pans his head around, looking around for the owner of said coat.

Quickly settling on the boy sitting a few meters away in the snow. The orange marker above his head gave him pause, but ultimately he owed this player his life so he quashed his feelings and tried to put on a friendly smile.

"Wh-" He began to speak, but was interrupted by a deep hacking cough, his throat felt impossibly dry and scratchy. With a swipe of his hand he opens his inventory panel and quickly scrolls through his.... hm, well that wasn't right. His inventory was almost empty. A matter for another time, for sure. He's thankful at least his food and water seems mostly intact, and pulls one of his bottles of water out of his inventory, grabbing the canteen as it materializes in front of him. He takes a few generous swigs as he chases away the thirst wracking his throat, wiping his mouth off with a forearm.

"Ahhh, sorry, sorry. My throat was killing me. I gotta thank you for pulling me from that shore... I probably wouldn't have made it on my own. My name's Aquila, now who do I have to thank for saving me?"

    @Seul

  5. Another hand joins the first, grasping desperately at the ice. Eventually, miraculously, they find their grip, clawing and scraping their way out, eventually revealing a large man crawling his way out of the ice. His status marker shows the ice rebuff, and it shows. His skin is slightly blue and he's drenched to the core as he crawls out onto the shore. As soon as he makes it to solid ground he collapses onto his side, gagging as he coughs up water.

He struggles to get back onto his knees as he crawls through the snow, not really sure where he's headed, just knowing that he needs to get away from that cursed lake. He makes it a couple meters, but it's very clearly not easygoing, eventually however he notices he's not alone, reaching out with a hand towards the only other living thing in the area before collapsing fully. A glance at his status bar would show the ice debuff has progressed to frozen, and his health has slowly drained into the yellow.

  6. Frostbite Lake, everyone knew it was one of the safe zones. Despite being Floor 4, there was a large string of safe zones North of Snowfrost, which were a boon to the hunters that frequented these parts hunting elk. Hunters looking to score some game traveled North from Snowfrost, stopping in the Starglades for a breather. Most of them continued further, up to the lake. They weren't strictly safe zones, per se. There were no guards, no walls, and the only signs anyone had ever been there were the footprints they left behind, which were quickly hidden by fresh snow. But they were monster free, and in this world that was about as good as it got. However, there was a legend, you see, among the players. About 2 years ago a rumor started spreading of a great treasure at the bottom of the lake... But as all things go in Aincrad, it was never that easy. No treasure is without its guardian.

A crack, spreading across the frozen lake. Freshly fallen snow falling away into the newly formed fissure. Another one, the sound ringing out through the still forest. A third crack, freshly fallen snow falls off a tree branch in the distance. A fourth resounding crack echoes out, the surface of the lake an infinitely intricate pattern of spiderwebbing cracks.  A final, resounding crack, the ice shatters; a fist.

  7. Considering my 2 year absence and the fact every item I crafted is now void, and they were all made before tiers existed, I'm going to opt to reclaim all 10 of them for T1 mats, to be carried out in a thread I'll post soon that will help tie up loose ends and explain my absence.

Aquila reflects back on his little impromptu hangout with Rusty and Vashtor. They were good kids, that much was clear. He had high hopes for Rusty too. If he was totally antisocial he could've easily denied his friend request.  Oh right, he had work to do. This was the last of his ingots so he hoped he could make good use of them. He tosses his hammer into the air idly as he waits for the forge to work its magic. He was starting to get really good at juggling, maybe he could get that good at smithing too.

    »OUT OF MATERIALS«

  10. Aquila nods in understanding. "I definitely prefer a more armoured approach myself, I plan on making myself a shield one of these days. Pretty soon I'll be able to shrug off the most massive of hits, which is my ultimate objective. I'm much more suited to get wailed on, don't you think?"

Aquila groans as he stretches his arms, letting his shoulders pop before getting up to his feet. "It's been a pleasure meeting you both. I'm going to retire for the night. If either of you ever need me for whatever reason don't hesitate to shoot me a message." He pulls up his menu, tapping a few buttons before friend requests pop up on both Rusty and Vash's displays.

He doesn't wait for their answers as he turns around and starts walking down the darkly lit road back to the Town of Beginnings, one arm resting on the pommel of his sword and the other raised to wave behind him.

They really were nice kids, Rusty was a little quiet, but he had his reasons for keeping to himself and Aquila would respect that. He just hoped that he would come out of his shell eventually, you needed a strong network of friends if you wanted to make it in this game. Vash was nice, he reminded him a bit of himself in his younger days.

He makes it back to Town and takes the warpgate back to Floor 7 to return to his shop slash home for a good night's rest.

  11. Aquila nods at Vash's words. "Sound reasoning, you need to account for the recovery time though. Swinging around something that heavy slows you down and leaves you open for attack."

Aquila looks over to Rusty, interested in his response as well. It was getting a bit late, yeah, but he didn't mind all that much. It's not like they were that far out of town to begin with.

  12. Aquila laughs heartily, smiling in mirth.

"Hah, don't worry about it. I only fight when I need to, and it just so happens I didn't need to today. Plus it looks like you can handle yourself with an axe like that." He points at the man's comically large great axe to punctuate his point.

He strokes his beard with a hand. "You should open up a shop. Be it restaurant, bakery, grocery store, whatever. I would certainly make regular visits, perhaps we could even set up some kind of trade agreement!" He didn't know what kind of agreement, but that was all for a later discussion, it was better to get the idea out now and let it grow than try and work out all the details here and now.

He glances over at Rusty, quirking an eyebrow ever so slightly at the boy's silent... mourning? Prayer? Introspection? Whatever it was, over the boar. It was a little strange to be paying the life of an NPC, an NPC animal at that, any sort of attention, but it was neither the time or his place to pass judgement on his actions, so he simply let him do him and turned back to Vash.

    Name: Stratium

    Item Type: Heavy Kite Shield

    Quality: Perfect

    Enchantments: +2 Paralyze, +1 Mitigation

Description: A thick kite shield with the top corners cut off and a radiant gem in the center of a stylized cross inlaid with polished brass. Identical polished brass trim trails along the edge of the shield. The shield is secured by two vertical straps at the same level as the gem. The gem seems to glow with power and the brass seems to shine just a little too brightly to be natural.

He gives the hammer a showy twirl as he sits down at his workbench. He had gotten into a habit now of how to do this, and he could see that he was getting better. He might even be able to open up the shop soon once his wares are built up a little more. He should do some sort of sale for the grand opening...

He cracks his knuckles as he sits down at his forge. He had forgone yesterday's work to take a break and collect his thoughts, but he was back now and more ready than ever to get to work. Grabbing an ingot, he gives it a flashy flip in his hands and tosses it into the forge to get to work.

  17. Aquila remains seated underneath the tree, observing the two of them face off against the boar. He certainly wasn't ever eager for battle, viewing it as a grim necessity instead of a fun pastime. He lets out a heavy sigh as mulls over thoughts. He had been so excited for this game initially. Back in his WoW and other traditional MMO days he had loved running in to be the frontline tank or wild DPS, so when this game was announced promising immersion like never before he had been one of the first ones to preorder. Just the thought of a game you could actually directly experience was enough for him, it was just an added bonus that the game was also an MMO like he was used to.

That was all before that fateful day where Kayaba appeared and explained their situation. Things went from being a fantastical, groundbreaking game to a living hell. No longer did he crave combat or action, he simply wanted to get home. And so he remained for the longest time in the Town of Beginnings, content in the knowledge there was a lead group striving daily to free everyone. Steadily however, the guilt built up. Why should he simply sit back and let a bunch of kids risk their lives while he, a perfectly capable adult, did nothing? It was then he geared up and headed out, determined to make up for lost time and join the lead group, not out of a thirst for battle, but out of a resolve to end all of this, as quickly and efficiently as possible. That's why he took up smithing, so he could maintain and make his own equipment.

He blinks away some fog in his vision and looks back up at the battle going on in front of him. Those two had everything handled, there was no need for him to intervene.

((Feel free to skip me until this combat is over))

  18. Aquila chuckles a bit.

"Cooking is quite the noble profession. There's nothing quite like a warm, freshly cooked meal right after a battle to soothe the spirits. The buffs are a nice little bonus too. Hell, I wish I could take some of that magic food back to the real world to help me get through a long day of work."

He focuses on Rusty, his eyes taking on a green shine for a second as he inspects the two. Rusty seems to be doing fine, so he doesn't feel the need to intervene. The stars were about to come out too, and those skybox artists sure did a good job of it. With a relaxed sigh he stretches his arms and reclines back fully in the grass, propping his head up on his arms as he stares up at the sky.

  19. Aquila looks on at the battle with a bit of interest, his eyes darting between the boar and Rusty.

"What do you think about Rusty? Kid seems pretty... quiet. You think he's taken this whole situation of ours a little rough? It was pretty hard for me the first few weeks." He sits up and rests his arms in his lap, looking over at Vash.

Those first few weeks had been bad, nothing but pure anger. Though... no. Now wasn't the time to dwell on the past. He needed to look ahead to the future. The lead group was already preparing to clear the floor 10 boss, and he was dedicated to getting strong enough to be there.

He blinks, lost in thought as he's brought back to reality.

  20.

    Name: Arbites

    Item Type: One-Handed Straight Sword

    Quality: Rare

    Enchantments: +2 Damage

Description: A short sword forged out of a light spring steel that was forged to give it a faint blue hue. It's styled after a traditional gladius, except near the hilt it has a heavy waist cut out to throw the balance of the blade forward and give it a heavier swing. Rested just above the bronze "crossguard" is a a chrome steel animal skull on each side that was welded onto the blade. Where there would normally be a crossguard, instead there's a thick bronze U shape, which was actually two bronze horseshoe shapes riveted together around the tang with bronze rivets. The hilt is wrapped with horizontal strips of leather dyed a dark maroon. The pommel is a flat bronze piece with a loop on the end adorned with hanging dogtags.
