After their brief struggle Xion and the night's king backed away from each other, the two warriors staring dead into the eyes of the other with fiery determination...or icy determination in the case of the king. "Nice one Hik, how's your energy?" he asked his comrade] as he focused on his enemy, the two circling slowly before Xion decided to make a move. The tank swung his gaive diagonally down into the king but he met the weapon with his own blade and deflected the attack. Xion grunted against the force before being pushed back, the king then rushing him and impaling the tank with his blade. Xion staggered a little before pulling himself off of the blade, raising his shield defensively.

After Xion quickly clashed with the night's king Hikoru was swift to follow up and attack the frozen monarch, his dagger penetrating the mob several times, depleting it's HP greatly which caused a smile to spread across Xion's face. "Good Hik, this will be over faster than we initially thought" he told the man before rushing the king again, swinging his glaive from the side, the blade of the weapon becoming embedded into the creature's side. The kind glared at Xion before bringing his sword around and striking the tank on his right side, which was rather unprotected as his weapon wasn't able to block. "Crap, no thorns" he noted with a frown.

Xion smiled as his friend told him that he knew he could trust the tank which reassured him greatly. "And you can trust most people in this world...most mind you..." he said, in all honesty he wanted to say that all people could be trusted but Xion and his entire guild had been betrayed once and he couldn't say those words without lying to a friend. "And those that you can't you punish..." he muttered angrily under his breath, balling his hand briefly into a fist as a fantasy of revenge was played out in his head.  "Anyway, let's go. We have a throne to claim and a king to usurp" he told the dagger wielder before marching into the frozen palace, the metallic clanking and rustling of the tank's armour echoing through the empty halls until he came to the throne room. "I hope you're ready Hik..." he said before rushing towards the throne, Howling to grab the attention of the figure who sat on it. As he did the king began to move, slowly getting out of his throne and drawing an icy sword as he looked with hatred at the tank. The frozen ruler charged at Xion, swinging his sword violently down at the tank's head as Xion blocked with his shield, taking very little damage as the kind winced, feeling the sting of his thorns. "Hik, now!" Xion called out as his HP bar refilled.

Xion's eyes widened as he listened to Hikoru talk about what having a unqiue skill meant, apart from the power and the demonic items it would seem that there was a more sinister side to the skills. Hikoru had told the man that the Unique skill seemed to have a voice in his head, telling him to trust nobody, telling him that only the shadows were his friend. Even going as far as to tell the player to abandon Xion, who was grateful that Hikoru had managed to ignore the voice. " Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost..." Xion said, repeating some words that he had heard many times, their teachings ringing true in Hikoru's situation. "It would be foolish to think that such power didn't come with a price..." he said, getting up and walking over to Hik, kneeling down and putting a hand on his shoulder. "I'm glad you ignored it...and I hope you can continue to do so. Don't let your unique control you and don't think that you have to fight it alone. I'm here if you ever need help..."

Xion chuckled as Hikoru commented on the fact that he could only attack twice if he used his strongest sword art. "That's the idea of a knife as a weapon though isn't it? You attack quickly and before your opponent can react so that you can kill them as soon as possible. The weapon simply isn't designed for long drawn out fights so it makes sense that you can't attack over and over again. And even then your damage is extremely high, although the area that we're in seems to be blocking us from doing more than a certain amount of damage" he said in response to Hikoru, the tank sighing as he did. "Well I guess we have nothing to do other than wait for out energy to regen..." he said, staring up at the sky, at a loss for what to say as he wasn't the best when it came to conversations. Until something hit him. "Actually...I have a question Hik. What's it like having a unique if you don't mind me asking?" he said, turning to face the man.

(Used Howl) 

Amidst the chaos of battle, the roaring of thunder, the howl of the wind and the symphony of blades clashing Xion was left with little to do. "I'm outclassed here...trust me to go into the one fight where howl doesn't work normally..." he muttered under his breath as he scanned the area, trying to find the best target to attack. The blonde couldn't help but chuckle. It was strange for him to even be considering attacking his enemies, usually he would just have to howl and let his foes do all of the work for him due to his thorns. His eyes continued to survey the chaos before him before something caught his attention, the flash of a sword art and a particularly large explosion of crystals. "Wha-" he said before turning to see Lowenthal strike the boss down with his dagger, Xion smiling as the ginger haired dagger user's actions had brought them one step closer to victory. "What is an army without a leader...useless!" he said with a large grin on his face before facing one of the remaining Phalanxes, the tank figured that since the main boss  was down for the count he could draw the attention of the phalanxes as he usually did. Letting out a loud bestial Howl Xion drew the attention of the third Phalanx, the blonde raising his shield afterwards as he braced himself for the next attack. He didn't know if he had made the best move in Howling at one of the large groups of spartans but he wanted his contribution to the fight to be something more than one pathetic attack.

XIon let out a sigh of relied as Hikoru appeared out of nowhere and killed the last wight, the tank falling to the ground and letting out a long breath. "This doesn't happen often Hik..." he told the man who was joking about his armour, Xion becoming slightly annoyed but not enough to be angry with his friend. "The bastards just got lucky that's all...there's nothing you can do to account for or defend against the luck of your opponent...no matter your level or skill at arms" he told him with a chuckle, the teen going on one of his rambling rants about some random thing once again as he rested. For the first time in what felt like ages his energy was actually low...it was strange to see the energy bar so empty and nearly depleted. "Hopefully the boss doesn't take as long Hik..." 

Xion nodded as he listened to Hakai talk about exact;y how strong her weapon class was and explaining it's special effect. "It's similar to spear in terms of power then..." he said as he thought about the best sword arts that spear was able to use. "Our highest damaging skill without martial arts is a ten hit combo called merciless flurry so it's the same as yours.But with martial arts we have a one hit sword art at eleven times the power called gungnir so our max damage without a crit or buffs is 143...which is horribly weak when  combared to dagger and rapier which have nearly 100 damage on all other weapon types" he told her as he continued to walk, thinking some more. "It means less to me as my job is to take damage, not deal it. But it means a lot to you as you need something other than your DOT so that you're not useless if you don't crit..." he told her. "You know with the new changes I may get a burn weapon until I GM my weapon skill...well if I ever GM it"

Xion watched as the other members of the group went about taking down the mobs with relative speed, the four Lions being taken out efficiently. "Alright, let'd hope that the rest of this dungeon is as easy as these four were..." Xion said as he lead the others further into the dungeon, the tank once again finding a group of lionesses. "Ok, ready for round two?" he asked the others before howling at the beasts, the four of them leaping at him angrily their claws scratching against his armour with little effect, his HP draining slightly as they were punished by his thorns for attacking him. "Let's hope the boss is this easy" he said as his HP regenerated.

Xion frowned in frustration as he faced the wight, the creature's low HP bar taunting the player as he was so close to the victory that he wanted but his inability to deal high amounts of damage was coming back to bite him in the ass. He was useless without someone to essentially do the work for him and he was being reminded of that fact a little too much. "Bastard...die already" he said before thrusting with his glaive, the attack missing before the wight rushed him and managed to attack a vulnerable point in his armour which meant that his thorns didn't activate and the creature persisted to live, much to his annoyance. "Looks like Hik will have to wait a little longer before we move on..." he said as his HP regenerated

"Alright you bastard let's get this over with" Xion said to himself as he stared the last wight down, his eyes focused on the humanoid creature as he took a deep breath. "Don't mess this up Xion...Hik's waited long enough due to your incompetence" he muttered, speaking in third person for some reason. The player sighed before slashing diagonally with his Glaive, the weapon missing by mere inches as he cursed under his breath. "Bloody missed...crap" he said as the wight then made it's move, the cerature violently swinging it's weapon at the tank who was surprised by the sudden speed of the mob and wasn't able to block, the blade of the weapon finding it's way into one of the joints of his armour, where he was least protected. The strike meant nothing to Xion, but it didn't trigger his thorns which annoyed the player to no end.

I would say definitely GM your weapon skill first out of all of those skills as to be honest the more damage you're able to pump out as a non-tank build is extremely important, that and GMing your weapon means that even if you're not extremely powerful you can make a reasonable contribution to floor boss fights (once you've reached a safe level that is). If you want to be a scout I would go for search and detect  so that you can become a good one as soon as possible after GMing your weapon (you may want to invest in some EVA equipment as your mitigation won't be extremely high). After that you could go for sneak if you want and eventually do what Opal does (although it's a bit of a jerk move) which is to stay hidden and strike when the boss is nearly dead to get the last hit bonus, or if you want to be a little more helpful attack when you're needed to attack with your stealth protecting you from being attacked until you do so. Alternatively you could go for light armour to make yourself a little more durable (which I would recommend but that's my tank bias speaking). Picking as far as I know is better for chests and such so probably isn't what you want to focus on straight away due to the fact that battle healing is so much better to get, with battle healing you can stay in a fight for quite a while even if you take a hit despite being a rather vulnerable DPS build. 


This is just advice from what I know about the skills and I wouldn't take my word as law on the subject as I'm a tank and I known more about how tank builds prioritise skills. You may want to ask someone like Takao who is a godly scout (the man finds floor bosses the day the floor is open for scouting). Either way I hope your build ends up working for ya buddy

Xion sighed as the wights continued to slowly walk after him, their movements clumsy and seemingly uncoordinated."This will be over soon...hopefully..." the tank said to himself before gripping his weapon tightly and running at the wight with the highest health, he knew that there was no point in attacking the weaker one as it would die to one round of thorns and he would just be wasting an attack, and thus it was better if he whittled down the health of the other one further just in case his thorns didn't activate twice in a row. He lashed out with his glaive and the head of the weapon pierced the flesh of the wight, the two creatures then retaliated, one of them striking him and dying to his thorns instantly, the other one's HP dropped by a large chunk before it backed away. "One left..." Xion said with a smile as his HP regenerated.

Xion took a second to look away from the wights and check on Hikoru. Gone, the black haired player had disappeared into the shadows as they had planned. "Good...he can regen" Xion said to himself before facing the creatures once more, the blonde smiling as he looked at their health bars. "One more round of thorns will kill one of them, and bring the other one close do death...they just need to hit me" he muttered to himself before running at the weakest wight, swinging his galive downwards and into the mob's shoulder, doing a little damage before they tried to attack him, the attacks bouncing harmlessly off of his armour which meant that his thorns didn't take effect. "Damnit, more delays"

"Well done Hik..." Xion said as his friend attacked one of the two remaining wights, the black haired player's dagger ripping into the creature and halving it's HP. "Go and rest so that you can regen, I can take these two easily..." he told him with a smile before turning to face the wights once more, the player gripping his glaive tightly as he thought about what he should do. "You know my energy is getting a little low to..." he said before running at the wight with the lowest health, using a simple attack instead of a sword art, the blade of the weapon pierced it's abdomen and dealt little damage before Xion ripped it out, the two wights attacking the player who took very little damage while they were punished by his thorns. "Hopefully this won't take long Hik" he said as his Hp regenerated back to full thanks to his shield enhancements.

Xion thought for a second as Hakai recommended that he continue to increase his defences, as she told him to continue to specialise as a tank. "I agree...to hell with damage...I'll never be able to make much of an impact with a spear.." he said to the girl as they walked onwards, the boy cursing his choice of weapon. "Why are spears so bloody weak..." he mumbled before sighing and deciding that he shouldn't make Hakai listen to his ramblings and complaints, the girl had her own problems to deal with.  "So...I assume that with a familiar you'll be pumping out some respectable damage along with your DOT no? If not then wild dance must be extremely underpowered..." he said, trying to maintain some form of conversation as he wasn't all too good when it came to familiars or anything that wasn't combat related, having dedicated nearly all of his time to fighting and bettering himself as a warrior. 

As Xion and Baldur walked through the dunes towards their destination the tank noticed the fact that Baldur seemed to be struggling, Xion however was mostly unaffected due tot the survival skill that he had picked up a while back. "Baldur, don't you have survival?" he asked the man before continuing their journey,t he tow eventually reaching the arena of spears that was described in the quest. "That's it right?" he asked the man next to him as they walked over some more dunes, Baldur seemed to notice someone else and ran off, Xion simply sighed as he maintained his own pace. After a while he reached them both, nodding to them as he listened to their plan. "Sounds good Baldur, you know this big bad beast may end up being a pushover" 

Xion nodded as he agreed with the girl. "Indeed, they now have the ability to greatly augment the fighting capabilities of their masters. Although as far as I know they still obey the enhancement rules, so I can't make one increase my mitigation even more...maybe I'll get a healer pet so that I can stay in combat even longer" Xion told the girl as he idly played with a few stray locks of his hair, the teen was in thought about what he was to do with his build, as he was at a crossroads of sorts. He could either continue to increase his defensive capabilities into the extreme, or hold off for now and focus on increasing his damage output. "Decisions...defence or offence..." he said to himself, not thinking about whether Hakai could hear him or not. He stayed like this for a few seconds, crunching numbers in his head as he tried to think about what was best for him as a front liner before snapping out of it. Shaking his head, the boy sighed. "Anyway, let's get going so that we can find this thing.." 

"Thank you Cal..." Xion said with a nod towards the Invincible warrior as he told Xion that he could be the main tank during the dungeon run, while some may have seen it as a minor detail it meant a lot to the player that the best tank in aincrad was allowing him to take point in his stead. "I won't fail..." he said to himself before Oikawa beckoned the group to follow him, Xion resting his glaive on his shoulder as he followed the golden haired swordsman, his eyes focused on the man as he awaited the next order from who was effectively the leader of the group. Once Oikawa had raised his hand Xion stopped suddenly, the tank holding his glaive in an at ready position, his grip tight as he listened the the player. "Alright Oikawa..." Xion said as he walked into the dungeon, his shield raised in anticipation of an attack. 

Xion then heard a slow growl as he walked further. "Lions!" he said as a small group of four came into view, the tank inhaling deeply before letting out a loud howl, the eyes of the beasts flashing red with anger as their heads snapped to face him. The four of them roared before leaping at the tank, all of them either missing or their claws uselessly scraping on his armour plates.

Xion chuckled in response to Hakai, it would seem that despite how badly their last venture in the fourth floor went she was still in a relatively good mood. "Good to hear, I need a break from fighting and some good old familiar hunting sounds like a pleasant respite..." the tank said to the girl with a smile, sighing as he rested against a tree next to where they were standing, the player deciding to put away his glaive and shield, but leaving his armour on just in case the need to fight arose. "Well, seeing as we're just going to be searching for some snakes we can take our time and relax with this one..." he said, yawning before taking a piece of bread from his inventory. "You know, after we get your familiar I need one. The new updates make them really good for tanks"

As Hikoru took down another one of the wights Xion smiled, after their initial disaster the two were taking the creatures down rather quickly and with little trouble other than Hikoru's HP remaining rather low. "Good Job hik, these things shouldn't be bothering us for much longer" Xion said as the dagger user finished his attack, Xion noticed that his energy bar was rather low, the black haired man even telling Xion himself. "I understand Hik...don't worry I'll take them out" Xion told the man with a smile before attacking the wights, his galive glowing again as the used yet anotehr AOE sword art, dealing a small amount of damage to the wights, which responded by striking Xion with all of their fury, his thorns not taking effect as he battled against the blows. Xion stood and listened to Baldur explain himself, the katana user stating that he was going after the butcher in the sands quest, Xion's eyes widening as he heard that. "Butcher of the sands...that's a rather dangerous one you realise that right?" he asked the man, while Xion respected him as a player with power just about equal to his own he head heard of and seen too many players rush to their deaths by taking on quests that they were too weak to tackle, and he didn't want to see the same tragedy play out with Baldur. Luckily the man told XIon that they would be getting help from another player who wasn't a tank, Xion assumed that this meant he was a DPS build, but a healer also would have been a great help. "I'll happily come along, but the butcher, as the boss tends to be called doesn't follow the normal rules of engagement as it were Baldur. It ignores hate from what I've heard and will attack whoever it pleases which means that I won't be as useful..." he told him in a serious tone, the tank sighing as he never liked a situation where he couldn't ensure that the enemy attacked him and no one else.

Xion watched as Hikoru went about taking another of the creatures down with ease, the tank couldn't help but marvel at the amount of damage that daggers could do even when restrictions were being put on them. "My thorns can do damage Hikbut they seem to be getting critical strikes quite a bit..." Xion said in response to Hikoru's question before tackling the wights again, the tank running forwards and swinging downwards with his glaive which unlickily missed and only struck the snow next to the feet of the wights. In response to this the creatures all attacked the player, Xion blocking all of the blows with his shield as they took some thorns damage. "Just as you mention it Hikoru" Xion noted with a chuckle as he watched his HP regen.

"I need to stay away from this floor after last time..." Xion muttered to himself as he walked through the snow covered streets of snowfrost, the tank's last visit to the floor hadn't been the most positive, he was forced to fight an extremely hard to kill phoenix the last time, the battle drove him and Hakai insane due to it's sheer length and monotony. "Never again" he said before he looked at his map, finding his friend Hakai on it. Luckily the girl wasn't too far away and Xion could walk to her quickly. And so he did, the snow of the floor crunching easily under the tank's boots as he strode with purpose towards Hakai's location, eventually seeing her in the distance as he approached. Quickening his pace, Xion quickly made his way to her. "Hakai...good to see you"
