Now that is clear, here is how fighting is done. The player who initiates the combat post will determine who is a Melee and Ranged in the formation based off the parties equipment, be it melee, staff or bow (staff users going to ranged formation, the rest self-evident).

This  leads me to believe that they are indeed ranged weapons though ^^

There are. Bows and throwing knives.

An assault spear is used for assaulting. (Stabbing/slashing) It would only be ranged if it said throwing spear.

So it is still a melee weapon but in ranged formation? okay, thank you
