So, what happens when you are fighting a mob with mitigation higher than your damage and you have expended all of your energy? Hit the mob for 1 HP 100 times until it dies?

You can just "not attack" the enemy.
Say that you're not attacking and only calculate the MD for combat (or others if your enhancements needed them)
That way, you can regen Energy while the fight continues.

I read something like that somewhere but I thought it pertained to being out-of-combat.
