  1. She slashed her katana in front of her, the sharp blade making a whistling sound as it cut through the air. She was annoyed that this creature had gotten the jump in her, but now wasnt the time to give in to her emotions. She needed to focus on the fight ahead of her, despite the fact that she wasn't all that scared of this zombie soldier. These enemies tended to show up one after another, and she'd rather not lose a lot of health or energy playing around anymore. That had been three mobs in a row that had tried to jump her, and despite being so strong she could get worn down. Best not to let it get even close to that. Her foot slid in a half circle in front of her, balancing on the balls of her feet lightly. In a flash she shot forward, swinging her blade with the intention to decapitate her enemy. The thing  howled at her and dashed forward in the same moment, mouth slamming shut... right on her katana blade, stopping it in its tracks.

Hakai wrenched her sword out of its mouth, stepping back a step or two. That was not normal, in fact, that was freaky as hell. Had it blocked her sword on purpose with its mouth? It was supposed to be an unthinking monster...

  2. The woman smiled a rarity for her, reaching down to her animal companion and allowing it to coil around her arm, hissing and slithering its way back up into her sleeve. Her constant state of depression, frustration, and distrust of others really got to her sometimes, but just having her familiar with her was sometimes all of the comfort that she needed to feel normal, even in the face of everything going on in this game. There was a crunch behind her, and a low groan. Another enemy, showing up right as she finished with the last one. She sighed, katana drawn confidently in front of her. And undead this time, of the group of NPCs that ran the main settlement on this floor. She definitely looked prepared to deal with it, but before she could even swing her sword the thing had leapt on her, snarling and drooling, teeth sinking right into her shoulder. She shoved the man off of her with a animalistic snarl. He was going to get it now.

  3. That was enough of that. Its struggle was in vain anyway and she was getting bored of this. It felt good, yeah, but knowing she was doing it to some code took some of the fun out of it. Originally this game had been supposed to be some kind of therapy for her violent impulses, and it probably would have worked as an outlet but after all this time she was desensitized to the violence; and not in a good way. She wanted the high of combat that she used to feel and that wasnt easy to achieve anymore. She sighed, her blade flashing as she finished off the mechanical construct. Boring. That was how she would describe that fight. No stakes, and the pain she was inflicting was fake anyway. And now that she looked at it the loot this time was trash too.

She waved her hand at the pile of scrap. "See that? Find something, i don't even care what at this point, anything is progress." The snake slithered off her arm, plopping down into the rust red dirt with a gentle thud, wiggling over to the machines corpse, if you could call it that. A few moments later it slithered its way back to her, a brass cog in its mouth. The mech's body shattered into crystals a moment later, the cog going with it. "Good job. Next time try for something a little more useful though."

  4. It was unfortunate that the minotaur didn't respawn while they were in the labyrinth and she could kill it herself this time. She would just have to make do with murdering the second minotaur. She would make it last too. Ivory came up with some random fantastical story about the origin of the monsters they were hunting. She didnt really care either way, it was a video game, this wasn't real life. Hakai supposed that meant that as long as the background of the minotaur's wasn't explained explicitly their background could be literally whatever you wanted it to be. They continued on, further into the western part of the maze, Hakai unsheathing her sword. It wasnt long before they stumbled across the second minotaur. Or, it would be more realistic to say that it stumbled into them. seeming much more cautious than the first minotaur, this one waited for them to make the first move.

That was a mistake, Hakai felt like she had something to prove so she was off like a flash. Make it last, dont let me down. Let me feel it again... A single slash of her blade later and it was over, the minotaur's body shattering into crystals. She was so angry she thought she might start smashing her fist into stone wall. Why couldn't it let her vent on it, the stupid thing was dead already! She shuddered angrily, her muscles tensing before her whole body relaxed and she seemed to get a grip. "These bosses don't last nearly long enough. This crap is boring."

  5. Hakai sheathed her sword, disappointment written on her face. Randal had defeated the creature before it had a chance to kill Ivory, and Hakai herself looked kind of dumb for missing like that. She frowned, hand resting on the pommel of her weapon. "Yeah, this was the eastern one, now we go fight the western one, if you want. Or we could stop here, although I don't really see the point." She commented, glancing over at Randal. Shed steal the next kill from him, she was determined not to be outdone by someone so below her.

"I didnt realize this quest was so low level. I guess you have to get it done at some point though or its just a waste, right?" She kicked at one of the hoofprints on the ground, flattening it back out absentmindedly. She motioned the correct way. "It's this way you moron." She muttered quietly, starting to lead the way before the NPC decided that she couldnt do anything by herself and made his way in front of her. People seemed determined to get on her last nerve today.

  6.

Hakai on the other hand, didn't say anything back to Randal, but was visibly proud of what he had said, even though it wasn't all that much. Although she wasn't here searching for anyone else's approval, it still as kind of nice to hear that her straightforwardness was appreciated. The moved further into the eastern part of the maze, Hakai making note of the many signs that they were drawing closer to their quarry. A tuft of fur caught on a thorny branch, the occasional dash of blood, a footprint.... These things weren't very obvious, but they also certainly weren't hidden. However, it appeared that it took Ivory getting her foot in a hoofprint and tripping to even notice one of the signs. The girl was a clutz, she was oblivious, and most of all she was ridiculously annoying with her cheerfulness and weird pacifist ideas.

The minotaur clopped around the corner, feet slamming violently into the ground with each step. Hakai wasnt phased. This guy was a small fry, she didnt think he could even hurt her. It seemed Ivory was taking the lead. Perfect. With the Minotaurs aggro on her, Hakai was free to purposefully miss her attack and maybe the minotaur would kill the other girl. She swung at the air, missing the minotaur by a mile. "Whoops."

  7. Hakai scowled, disapproving of the notion. She definitely didn't like her ideas being called dumb either, especially by this ditz of a woman. This Ivory girl acted like such a child, with her naive notions and beliefs. Hakai bet she'd never even lost someone and yet she was out here preaching. She sighed, calming down a little. She was good at that, short term control of her emotions, but it always burst out at some point. She'd probably be punching a rock later having an outburst.

"Oh really? The feeling isn't mutual, for either of you." She responded to the assertion that they both liked her. She definitely didnt like Ivory, and she also didnt like Randal, but she had much more neutral feelings towards him. He was alright in her books. She sighed, placing a hand on her face momentarily. "Sorry, that was really rude. Your philosophies are naive and they struck a chord with me, and not in a good way." She explained.

    3/5

  8. Hakai was well aware how she tended to be viewed when she acted like herself, and thought that it was very strange to want someone like her to watch their back. She sighed, smoke drifting out of her mouth as she looked about with a sullen look on her face as they approached the labyrinth. "I think its a joke Ivory. Randal here is a funny guy, you're lucky to have someone like him." She responded, completely misunderstanding the situation. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, giving the girl what appeared to be a sad but friendly smile. "And no, I don't have anyone anymore. A lot happens in this game, you lose people as fast as you find them. Its better to stick to yourself." She shrugged and looked away, signaling that that conversation was over. It was hidden to Ivory, but she looked very unhappy for a moment before recovering. The light that managed to break through the curtain of leaves above formed patterns on the forest floor and she allowed herself to get distracted in them rather than think about the frustrations of the past.

  9. There was a sigh as Hakai watched Randal comically push someone else towards her, seemingly using her as a shield which was a very weird concept in itself. The girl herself just looked like your typical naive cannon fodder. She raised an eyebrow as they finally arrived, leaning back up against the tree she had been relaxing next to. She was here for this quest, might as well knock it out with these two since they were here. "I saw that you did, and I know you don't need me for this." She paused, arms crossed and fingers tapping impatiently. "So why are you trying to bring me with you?" She paused, turning to face the white haired woman.

"And you..." She looked over at the woman, Ivory or something similar, with a scowl. It looked like she was about to say something rude, or tell the girl to shut up and go away for a moment, but instead her face broke into a friendly smile. "It is really nice to meet you too Ivory. And I'm glad you noticed, I put a little extra effort into it today." The friendly response would definitely seem off to Randal, but she didn't really care, someone like this Ivory chick seemed like the perfect sort to teach how the world worked and Hakai was the woman for the job.

She unsheathed her sword, laying it over her shoulder like a baseball bat with a clank. "Anyway, lets just get this over with. What have you been up to Randal?" She asked, seeming a bit more genuine talking to Randal.

  10. Her attention was ripped away from Randal and the people around him as a Faune man had walked up to her, tapping her on the shoulder to lecture her about fire safety or something like that. She grinned, viciously revealing her rather sharp canines and violently shoving the NPC away from her where he stumbled and fell onto his back. Her katana was already a quarter of the way out of her sheath, where she kept it, attempting to keep control of herself. She blew a puff a smoke into the air and tapped the cigarette on the hilt of her katana, the ember at the tip falling off onto the ground. She nudged it with her foot, the ember quickly dying out. "What are you gonna do about it kid." She badmouthed the Faune extremely loudly before slowly taking her hand off of her weapon and relighting the cigarette. That ought to keep the rest of the NPCs from bothering her for the moment. She glanced up, a notification having lit up on her HUD. Shit, he must have spotted me. She thought to herself, seeing the message and the contents. She gave Randal a half hearted wave, before scowling at the back of the Faune who had rushed off in a hurry.

  11. She giggled to herself, a crazed look on her face. It didn't matter how she acted out here by herself. There was no one to make uncomfortable, no one to freak out, she could just let the crazy out. In a time in her life when everything seemed out of her control it was moments like these where she actually managed to feel like she was in charge. The fears that plagued her in her day to day life faded away, and it was just her, and the enemy cowering underneath her. As it should be.

She took a while to gloat, strolling over to the brass colored mech, her katana over her shoulder nonchalantly. Its gears whirred slowly as it lay there helplessly. Poor thing. She wanted to put it out of its misery, but that would just be too easy. With a final burst of steam from its pipes the machine blasted forward at her, its fist slamming into her leather breastplate. She stood there and took the hit. Just a wounded defeated enemy lashing out with its final breath. Typical. She wished it would just accept its fate and let her carve it up for her amusement, but it wasnt in its programming she supposed. She took a halfhearted swing at it, missing by a hairs breadth in an attempt to provoke the machine again. If it wanted to struggle she would let it. It would only make it hurt more in the end.

  12. It seemed she was still giving these metal abominations more credit than they deserved. The construct, stunned from the blow, was lying face first on the ground. It wasnt dead, but it had been thoroughly embarrassed by the ginger swordswoman. As far as Hakai was concerned this mob and all the other players could eat dust just like that. The machine pushed itself to its feat, and action that Hakai as mildly impressed at. If this wasnt a VR game should would have been impressed at the engineering, but as it stood it was just some fancy animation, a concept that was way easier than what she was supposed to imagine was happening. Time to teach this enemy its place. While it definitely wasnt the smartest move, Hakai liked to toy with her enemies, make them feel hopeless. She marched over to the mech as it struggled to stand up in time, raising her katana like a baseball bat and smashing it into the mechs face in a vicious uppercut, sending the enemy flying backwards onto its back with a loud crash. It sparked, unable to move for a moment.

  13. She shoved off, pushing the mechs fist back and gathering a little more space for her to maneuver. The tip of her foot drew a little circle in the blood colored dirt underneath them as she adjusted her stance, preparing to unleash another attack of some kind. Steam hissed from the mech's exhaust as it started to charge, the ground quaking with each step. She could see the motion she wanted in her minds eye, but it was pushing her limits for sure. Could she make it happen?

Shit, it was too late to think about it anymore, now was the time to do. She balanced on the balls of her feet, leaping as high as she could as the golem swung at her, the fist flashing underneath her in the dim red light of the floors sun. She only had a moment. There was a loud clang as the heel of her boot slammed into the tip of the golems fist, sending it stumbling forward and her into yet another graceful leap. She twirled mid air, fingers calmly closing around the handle of her blade and slashing mid flip, landing lightly on her feet behind the mech. She didnt even need to look, she knew she had somehow pulled off that feat of acrobatics. Having learned her lesson from earlier she spun around, blade raised defensively.

  14. She didnt want to be here. Floor three was lame as all get out, with its animal people and beautiful scenery. It was your typical nature floor, massive trees and an equally massive lack of anything fun or interesting to do. Now that she thought about it she had the same opinion of every floor they had unlocked so far. Maybe the problem was more with her than the floors themselves. Nah, that was a stupid thought. Hakai didn't have a problem, she never did. It was everyone else who had problems.

She was in full gear today, a black leather breastplate with ornate silver engravings, and a thick and very sturdy looking black steel gauntlet on her right arm. She had even run her fingers through her hair. All in all, Hakai was looking extremely put together, at least compared to normally. She raised her hand to her mouth, her fingers holding a typical orange and white cigarette, wrapping her lips around it before leaning over and shielding the tip from the wind as she carefully lit it. The Hoya quest seemed incredibly easy, and she was going to take it as quietly, calmly, and slowly as she could, just enjoying herself. She blew a plume of smoke out, spying a familiar shirtless figure in the crowd in front of her. Small world huh. No way was she getting involved this time. She leaned against the bark of a nearby tree, trying not to draw much attention to herself.

  15. There was a crunch in the dirt to her left behind the boulder, jarring the young woman out of her thoughts. She shifted, standing up straight now and raising her katana once again. There wasnt a whole lot of room or time to relax on this floor in particular, the monsters seemed to spawn everywhere constantly. There were some spots where they were a little less common, places that Hakai tended to frequent, but she figured that this quest of sorts was better done around enemies. More chanced to train her familiar to do... something. She meandered forward, around the side of the boulder, coming face to face with her latest mechanical acquaintance. She had been hoping for a demon or something, but this seemed to be a hotspot for these steampunk machinations. No big deal. Her blade whistled through the air as she slashed at the golem, blade colliding with its fist, both of them mid attack. "Tchh." She vocalized in frustration. They had blocked each other. She wanted to get this over with already.

  16. Yeah, no, that was definitely not agreement. The ginger woman sighed, picking up the snake and gently placing it over her shoulders like some kind of weird living scarf. The two of them had a good relationship, or at least as good as one could have with a woman like Hakai. The snake kept her silent company and didnt bother her at all, but let its presence be known occasionally by its movements. The thing was always wrapped around one of her limbs, small enough to not be visible, at least not easily, which was yet another plus. She reached out and booped its head gently. The time had come for it to be more then just silent company, she wanted some stat boosts, but she wasnt going to push it too hard. Despite everything she did kind of care for it, as hard as that was to admit. She had been through some tough times with it, so she was hesitant to push it too hard for some negligible game bonuses.

  17. "Huh..." The words were uttered quietly as Hakai inspected the creature wrapped around her arm. "You're supposed to do something. Like find me a chest or a dungeon. You feel me?" She attempted to explain to the snake, feeling very stupid as she did it. That was just how this game worked though. She crossed her arms, the snake happily coiling around and over them. She leaned up against towering rock that was jutting out of the ground, getting comfortable. The woman locked eyes with the snake, and a battle of wills seemed to ensue. It was only after a minute that Hakai remembered that snakes dont have traditional eyelids, and her little friend completely lost interest and went back to slithering around her forearms. "C'mon, you gotta at least try. And if you dont want to find treasure thats fine, but you gotta do something. All the other familiars do, you dont want to be the odd one out, right?" The gold snake cocked its head at her, its tongue slithering out of its mouth as it hissed. She couldnt tell if that was agreement or a disrespectful gesture. If it had a personality that was anything like hers it was probably both.

  18. Her eyebrow raised and a moment later she let out a laugh of genuine amusement. "What... what is that?" She grinned, staring at the oval bean thing. This dude was super weird, but she at the very least found it a little amusing. She watched him fall backwards into his own hole a moment later, cracking another, small smile. She meandered over to him, reaching out to offer him a hand in getting up.

"Wow, that's lucky. Makes up for how silly you looked digging for it." She commented with a smirk and a playful wink. She was getting back into the groove of social interaction, it was just taking a bit of time. She stuck her hands in the pockets of her hoodie, leaning up against a tree and getting comfortable. She made a motion with her head, directing attention back to the chest. "Go for it man. We can figure out what we're doing after that; I'm up for pretty much anything. Being alone all the time can be kind of shitty."

  19. She watched as Randal dug around in the dirt. It was very strange to watch, even after he explained what he was doing to her. It hadnt occurred to her that you could gather materials by sifting around in the dirt, she had always picked herbs or mined or whatever. She supposed that if kind of made sense, looking for edible roots and tubers if you were a cook. "A cook, huh. why'd you pick that job, something you've always wanted to do or can do in the real world?" It was generally taboo to bring up the real world, but Hakai honestly didn't care about that kind of thing, unless she was trying to get something from someone. "I'm a merchant, but I've been out of commission for a long time. Don't even think my shop is still there." She mentioned, wanting to contribute to the conversation a bit. She had been off the grid for quite a while. "Anyway, ill stop by sometime if you give me the location." She had just been in a sour mood for the past month or so, she want usually so confrontational and rude and she decided to try to make it up to him. Her real nature was, but she was usually way better at hiding it. It seemed like all her time away from people had caused her acting skills to rust significantly.

  20. She frowned slightly, her sharp eyes looking Randal over. It seemed like he wanted to spend more time with her, and she couldn't tell why. That wasn't a normal thing, people usually just left her alone. Maybe he wanted her strength to boost himself up, or maybe he was lonely like her? She wasnt particularly intrigued by either thought, but she decided to humor him. "We can do whatever you want. But if we run into more combat its on you, I'm not getting involved." She commented. Hakai didn't want him thinking that he could take her along with him as some kind of body guard or something. She spit the toothpick he had been chewing on out and put her katana back in her inventory, pulling out a thin black  zip up hoodie and slipping it on. All in all the change in appearance made her seem a little more approachable and normal, despite the fact that she had only done it because she wanted to be a little more comfortable. "You in a guild or something?" Might as well gather some info on the guy after all.

  21. Sewallus might not have been disappointed, but Hakai certainly was. They had defeated the boss, Randal had done his part, rather flashily too, and they had gotten the extra skill that was the entire point of them taking the quest. There was no reason for the feeling, but she had secretly been hoping Sewallus would be bitter and still feel guilty seeing as he had literally contributed nothing but being a human airhorn. To her surprise however, he seemed happy regardless. She scowled. Why else had she hit that thing as hard as she had, except to make him feel hopeless about his own weakness. The scowl faded but she still looked sullen.

"yeah... Its a real useful one, huh." She commented back to Randal, a little quieter than normal. She motioned to Sewallus who was trying to lead them to celebrate somehow. Honestly shed just rather do her own thing, celebrations just sapped her energy and she always felt awkward when she didnt have anyone to lean on. Her wife had been that person in the past, but things happened and there was no point in thinking about the past. She sighed in exasperation, running her fingers through her hair. possibly making it even messier than before.

  22. Hakai nodded, looking a little bit annoyed that they were taking Sewallus with them even though she knew why. She let him lead the way to the location, glancing around and seeming completely at ease despite the rumbling footsteps headed their way. The Monkey King landed with a crash, shaking the ground. If Randal was looking he might notice that Hakai had seemed to completely disappear in that moment, having dashed immediately at the Monkey King full speed. She spun, her boot slamming into a tree and sending her hurtling into the air at that gigantic enemy, a mad cackling making its way out of her mouth and a gigantic grin plastered on her face. Behind her she could barely hear Sewallus howling, but she was so focused in the moment that she mostly tuned it out.

Her blade come out of its sheath for only a moment, sliding back into its holster almost as soon as it came out. One might think that she had changed her mind, but a massive red line appeared through the Monkey King, right down the middle, making it obvious that she had hit it with something big. The enemy crackled with electricity, blood dripping from its wound as Hakai finally dropped to the ground in a crouch. "The more they hype them up the weaker they turn out to be." She said to Randal, the mad grin slowly fading from her face. "You can have the honor."

  23. Sewallus didn't talk much, Hakai liked that. She definitely didn't like him, but she appreciated the moments of silence in their conversation and that he shut up otherwise. Randal on the other hand seemed like he could talk for days. It wasn't necessarily a bad trait to have, but to someone with an antisocial streak like Hakai it was at the very least mildly annoying. It was also her experience that people that talked a lot usually couldn't back it up. She rolled her shoulders back, loosening the muscles up. She already knew she would likely be handling the brunt of this quest on her back and she honestly couldn't figure out if she preferred the help and company or if she wanted them all to leave her alone. She gave Sewallus a serious nod. "Sure you can come with us old man. Just don't get in my way, I can handle whatever the thing is we're fighting." She stated in a dry, careless voice, her words making it quite obvious that she hadnt been paying attention to what the quest was at all and all she knew was that they were going to be fighting something.

"You want to take the lead Randal, or should I? Someone has to guard the front."

  24. She twirled around, katana held at the ready. The scarlet edge of the blade glimmered in the dim red light, seeming almost covered in blood. Now that she was looking at it the machine almost had a strange sort of beauty, underneath the layers of rust and dirt. There was a loud clicking as the mechanical construct raised its fists again, preparing to close in on her. Yeesh, couldn't it just let her enjoy the view for a bit? The way the cogs turned, entwined with each other under a shell of intricate metal netting was fascinating and she couldnt help but spend another moment admiring the workmanship. As the machine started to swing at her she sighed. That was enough of that. Despite finding the inner working of the machine intriguing she had work to do and while she could take more hits from the machine she was here to train her familiar, not learn to be an engineer. Her blade swished through the air twice, the mech golems fists falling to the earth with a thud.
