  1. It didn't matter whether the feeling was permanent or not if seemingly random stroke of motivation to change went away as quickly as it had shown up. She didnt want to get into it though. He seemed sure of himself and there was no point in talking about it further.

    "I've never bothered to consider that. It doesn't really matter to me one way or another so pondering that question is just a waste of time." She responded as they approached the military outpost. She nodded to the guardsman, pulling out another toothpick and starting to chew on it. The NPC motioned them in without any sort of fuss, it was obvious that the camp was actually fairly low security. "Its the big tent in the center with the flag on it. Hard to miss." He explained pointing in the general direction of the middle of the camp. 

    The guardsman scowled at the nonchalant woman, seeming to judge her apparent lack of equipment and confrontational attitude. Hakai smirked back at him in response and flipped the NPC off as they continued into the camp. It didn't take long for them to reach Sewallus's tent and Hakai barged in without knocking or any sort of warning.

  2. The woman's flame colored eyes narrowed at his answer, one eyebrow raising slightly. "We've been stuck in this game for a long time. Are you sure that this burning hope is going to stick around?" The question was itself was harsh, but spoken in a tone that belied a personal experience with this kind of feeling. She raised her hand, running her fingers through her hair thoughtfully, her mouth opening slightly as though she was about to say something else. Instead she let out a long sigh instead, her hand dropping back down to her side. The look on her face hardened, it seemed that her mask had slipped for a moment thinking about something.

    "Its just my real name. I don't know where it's from, I never asked." Hakai's signature smirk was back, lips curled slightly. People had made fun of her for the name in the past, but that was before she introduced them to her fists. 

    Before reaching Sewallus she stopped, leaning her back against the rough bark of a nearby tree. She grinned, a gleam in her eye. "We just need to take this guy with us to the fight. As long as he doesn't die we get the skill, and if he does die, who cares. The quest will try to pull at your heartstrings, but he's just an NPC and he'll respawn." She explained, seeming very amused at the idea of the NPC running to his death.

  3. Her combat boot collided violently with the surface of the soot covered rock beneath her with a thud, sending dust flying up beneath her. She could hear it, the scraping of mechanical parts and the whirring of the cogs. Prey. Her fingers wiggled impatiently beside her, an outlet for the excess energy rushing through her. The calm before the fight was always the best and worst part. Every detail seemed to enhance, every noise was twice as loud as before. Scarlet lightning crashed through the air behind her as her restless hand finally wrapped around the woven grip of her katana. "You ready for this kid?" She called out seemingly to the air. There was a loud snap, the sound of whirring mechanisms reaching a new, heightened volume. 

    She laughed, a loud, careless, crazed laugh. "Not you dumbass!" Her voice broke through, directed at the hunk of machinery underneath the ledge she was on. "I'm talking to him." There was a hiss as the diamond shaped head of her familiar slithered out from her sleeve where it had coiled itself like some sort of strange ornate bracelet.

    A moment later the woman flipped off the edge, the sound of metal on sheath ringing out in the air as her katana separated from holster and tearing through the mechanical monstrosity in one clean motion as though it was made of paper. "These guys are small fry for sure." She commented to her snake having landed on her feet facing away from the enemy.

    Bonk...

    Hakai felt the metal fist smack into her head, sending her stumbling on the rust colored dirt beneath them. It appeared the enemy still had some fight left.

    It was dark and gloomy, but that wasnt saying much for the fourteenth floor. This place never changed, it was static in its depressive nature. It would be a stretch to say that Hakai liked this floor, but more often than not the atmosphere matched her general mood. It seemed her sour aggressively sarcastic personality tended to push others away from her, so as usual she was alone. Once again, it would be a bit of a stretch to say that Hakai liked being alone, but more often than not that was how she ended up. She had only really gotten close to one person in this game, and that had been both by accident and a miracle, and that person was dead. Then she had trusted a 'friend' with her weapon of choice on the condition that he give it back when he was done using it, only for him to trade it away and refuse to make things right. That had been a fair while ago, but with nothing having happened in the meantime to sway her view, it was safe to say that her faith in others was practically nonexistent at this point. Screw all of them, she would get stuff done on her own. 

  5. Hakai frowned. She hadn't really payed any attention to what Remington had said. Apparently they were supposed to find some random dude Sewallus who had fled the monkey king with Remington and get more information from him. "I don't know what sort of useful information a wimp like him would have for us." She remarked, smirking. She was a straightforward woman. She saw an enemy, and she smacked it as hard as she could, that was just how it worked. People that ran from battle should just die, whether it was a boar or a floor boss. She swiped open her HUD, sending a party invite to Randal. Regardless of how she felt about cowards, they apparently had to talk to the man in order to get to the fun part of the quest. She led the way to Sewallus, following the quest marker. "So, any reason you wanted to do this quest in particular?" She asked him, attempting to be a little friendlier to the other player and start up some small talk as they walked. It didn't hurt to learn a little bit about your other party members.

"No, im just here talking to the NPC that gives the quest for fun because I'm stupid like that." She thought to herself sarcastically, but managed to hold herself back from giving a similar response. She didn't like this guy already, for no particular reason. She didn't like most people though, so it was really just another day for her. Her hand reached up over her shoulder, gripping the handle of her katana loosely, absentmindedly tapping her fingers on the handle. After a few moments she stopped, dropping her hand to her side as though realizing how menacing that action seemed. "Yeah. I'm looking to get myself an extra skill. I assume since you're asking you're here for the same reason, right?" She responded to him, ignoring the NPC who had been in the middle of a sentence talking to her, holding her hand up rather rudely to motion him to shut up. "If you can contribute I'd be overjoyed if you joined me." She continued, dryly, obviously not overjoyed at the thought, but since she was the one asking it was apparent that she wouldn't mind a little extra help.

    It was a crappy day. And what day wasn't when Hakai was involved. The sun was shining through the tree tops, the birds were chirping; All in all it was a beautiful day, the kind of day that should lift anyone's spirits. Hakai preferred it dark and miserable though. She chewed on a toothpick, approaching the white haired zoologist where she was supposed to start some low level quest. She had heard from the info brokers that this particular quest could drop a very strong extra skill and if there was something that she did find enjoyable it was combat and winning. She spit the toothpick out violently at her feet, adjusting the long katana that was strapped to her back menacingly. F*** she wanted a cigarette right now and it felt like this little piece of NPC trash was taunting her. Still, she had a job to do. Flashing him a dazzling smile she slipped her hands into her pockets, nonchalantly, rolling her shoulders a little to loosen up the muscles and just relaxing her overall posture. "So what's the story here, something need killing?" She started off, in a friendly tone of voice, waiting for the inevitable info dump that always started these kinds of quests off.

She can come to care a lot about the few people she unwillingly grows close to.

  9. Hakai batted his hand with the flat of the blade as he went to poke it, wordlessly giving him a look of disapproval. She sheathed her sword. and followed him out of the tavern. "Everyone thinks that. No matter what you say that's how itll come off." She frowned , walking alongside him. "You lead the way. I have a feeling this will be a bore anyway. Im too much for this floor to handle." She looked up at the sky in annoyance, not entirely sure why she was bothering to follow the other player around. Maybe it was that he seemed interesting. Maybe it was just her realization that the only way to get over her apathy was to force herself to do things. She pulled up her HUD and sent him a party invite. Friend requests could wait until she knew more about him. "I'm guessing your a damage dealer from how proud you seem to be of that sword." She stated, glancing over at him.

  10. She stood up slowly, supporting herself on the table with one hand. She was so tired that the action itself felt like a struggle to her, despite her knowing that if she really wanted to she could hop up easily. Depression did that to you. She unsheathed her katana, the green and black blade shimmering as though it were wet. "This is my sword, Limbo's Fang." She supposed that Dustin was a dramatic type. She didn't usually see people brandishing their swords, let along actually name them something important enough to announce it to others as part of their introduction. She only cared about her weapons name because it was a special boss drop with unique attributes.

    She let out a long sigh, the fact that he has said "Used to be" not going over her head. "Most of us have lost someone at this point. Me, I used to be a wife. Things change, especially in a death game." She leaned against the table, staring off into space for a moment. "You can choose. Ive done them all before and I can do them all again without breaking a sweat."

  11. She let out a long sigh and let her arm collapse in front of her, her head thudding on the table with exasperation. Maybe if she poked him a bit with her katana he would leave her alone. "That's not how it works. Company invites conversation. Whatever." She looked up at him her chin resting on the table. "What brings you to this floor, besides the taverns?" She asked quietly, wondering if he was yet another player trying to hunt her down for her demonic weapon. She had fallen into the shadows, and people didn't seek her out like that anymore. Paranoia didn't suit her, and it was about time that she at least attempted to get out of this slump she'd been in, and maybe this guy was her chance to do just that. It could be that fate was throwing her a rope. Not that she had ever really believed in fate. Things changed though, especially when you had a couple of months of pondering the past and being alone. There were too many coincidences in her past for it all to have been random, right? If the pattern continued, this guy would end up dead, just like the rest of her 'friends'. Not that she cared. "I'm Hakai."

  12. She scowled, her dog tags jangling as she inclined her head down towards the table instead of making eye contact with him. She adjusted herself in her seat, sitting up and pulling her red and white leather jacket closer around herself. "I wouldn't know. I live on the thirteenth floor." She frowned and looked up at the other player, who was now wearing sunglasses inside for whatever reason. Maybe she scared him. Good. Maybe he would leave her alone. She raised an eyebrow as he asked her if she wanted to try his drink. "Trying to buy me a drink now? Why are you talking to me exactly? I give off the whole depressed and dangerous vibe. People don't just talk to me unless they want something." She leaned forward, propping her head up on her chin and staring at him, her hair falling like a veil in front of half of her face. She didn't bother to brush it back behind her shoulder, and instead kept looking at him expectantly.

  13. Hakai hated the woods, this floor specifically. It was almost always sunny and the whole place buzzed with life. She much preferred the gloom of floor thirteen. She threw her head back, taking another shot of whiskey, despite knowing full well that it wouldn't have any effect. It was more of a way of expressing her feelings than anything else. She slammed the empty shot glass back down on the table, as someone sat down in front of her. On the table. She sighed and looked away from them. She didn't feel like talking, but at the same time she didn't really have the energy to shove him off of his impromptu seat. "You like to bother strangers, or do you have a death wish? Or both?" She glanced over at him as he slid into the seat across from her, her trademark smirk lighting up her face momentarily before fading back into the sorrow that was etched on her face. "Curiosity killed more than just the cat." She muttered, ordering another shot of whiskey from the waiter.

  14. The grey sky loomed above her as she lay against an old weather worn boulder. She didn't really care that she was lounging around outside of the safe zone. A lot of time had passed, and at this point she didn't really care what happened to her. She took a drink from the flask that had become her companion over the last few months. She lacked the motivation to do anything anymore, and the dreary skies and graveyard-like appearance of the thirteenth floor fit her mood perfectly. Apathy. That was the word for it. The sheer boredom and lack of interest in anything that had plagued her for the last long while. Depression was boring. Her katana sat next to her on her hip, a constant reminder of her goals for this game and the fact that she wasn't any closer to completing them. She was going to be someone in this game, it was a chance to become important, and she couldn't help but feel that she had thrown that all away. This was stupid. She took another gulp of whiskey, fully aware that what she wanted was just getting further and further away from her. Whatever. She was done with pursuing lofty goals. Maybe she would go start a fight, get lost in the blood and adrenaline, maybe she wouldn’t come out on top this time. That was fine with her.

    Ability 1: Trample [0/3] 
    [3 Turn CD] [Uses whenever able, but will delay a turn to prevent hitting one group twice in a row]
    Bialas charges towards the player with the highest hate in the target group, and chooses a secondary target based on the LD of the attack roll (re-roll LD in the case of landing on the main target). Uses both the BD (target 1) and MD (target 2) and gains +1 ACC for this attack. On a hit, deals 275 DMG (135 minimum) to the main target and 175 DMG (85 minimum) to the secondary target.

    Ability 2: Shockwave 
    [Activates on a CD 9-12] [5 Turn CD] [Prioritizes over Trample]
    Bialas sends a massive surge of energy through the ground towards the target party. Rolls a MD against each player, dealing 150 DMG (75 minimum) on a hit. If a player is wearing heavy armor, they instead take 200 DMG (100 minimum). Applies <<Static Charge>> on a LD result of 11-20, regardless of the result of the attack (no effect on players who already have the debuff).

    Ability 3: Defiled Blood
    [Passive]
    The following will trigger <<Defiled Blood>> to activate:

    • For the duration of any Bleed effects on Bialas.
    • When boss reaches 30% HP

    At the beginning of Bialas’ turn, heals 225 HP.

    Ability 4: Nova Bolt

    Bialas takes one turn to use his horn as a lightning rod, charging it with electrical energy. On the second turn, a devastating bolt of stored lightning is shot towards the player with the highest hate in the target group. Deals 300 DMG (150 minimum) and applies <<Static Charge>> on a hit. On a miss, this attack still deals 200 DMG (100 minimum).

    Ability 5: Arc Lightning
    [Uses every turn] [Free Action]
    Applies the following debuff to three random players in the next target group:
    <<Static Charge>>: At the beginning of your turn, roll a die with the Roll Purpose “Static Charge”. The following happens based on the CD result:

    • 1-5: The effect spreads! You end up touching or getting close enough to another party member for them to gain the <<Static Charge>> debuff. The effect then deals 100 unmitigatable DMG, or 75 unmitigatable DMG if you have Survival active. The newly-affected player is determined by you, but must be someone who is not already affected by <<Static Charge>>.
    • 6-10: The effect deals 100 unmitigatable DMG, or 75 unmitigatable DMG if you have Survival active.
    • 11-12: The effect immediately ends, and no damage is taken.

    If all players in a single party gain the <<Static Charge>> debuff, they each immediately take 100 unmitigatable DMG, or 75 unmitigatable DMG if they have Survival active, and the effect ends on all players

    Hakai raised her weapon once again. It was finally her turn to hit the boss again. Well, not again, she had yet to land a single strike on the beast. Her health bar was dangerously low, and the best way to keep herself alive was to actually contribute something to killing this boss. She rushed in, her katana held high, determination written on her face. She slashed the bosses side fourteen times in quick succession. Even though her status effects had failed to kick in she was still ecstatic that she had managed to finally do something besides putting her life in danger. She was rusty and this fight was making that apparent to her. She didn't want to have to rely on others anymore. She wanted to be strong enough to protect herself and not need help from anyone. That would take a lot more effort than she had currently given. In the grand scheme of things, as Sword Art Online stood at the current moment, she was just a little fish. Hopefully soon she would be able to become the shark.

    Hakai rushed at the boss again, once more missing and regretting not investing in accuracy. She had missed every single time she had tried and she was starting to wonder if she had really gotten this rusty in her time away from the frontlines or if she was just unlucky. This kind of fight was the sort of fight where it really mattered to land hits. Her health bar was at half, and the sooner they killed the boss the sooner she and others would be safe. There was a very real possibility that she could die here if she kept missing. Honestly this streak of missing was starting to get on her nerves. It would almost have been better if she hadn't attended at this point. All she was doing was taking up a spot in a party and doing nothing but needing to be healed. She was just a waste of resources at this point and it bugged her to no end. She would definitely hit the boss this next time, if she made it to then. As she retreated back from the boss she accidentally brushed Shield, the status effect that had been applied to her jumping to him as well. This was just stupid.

    Hakai smiled to Beat. "Well, it would certainly be better if I could actually hit the thing. I suppose it doesnt seem all that special." She looked over at the boss before sprinting at it and attempting to slash it again. She missed once more and was forced to retreat. This games battle system annoyed her. She didn't like the lack of a pain system. She glanced over at her health bar, checking it out. It was well below full, but still within a fairly safe margin. She hated having to do that. In the real world you could just feel how badly you were hurt instead of having to look at a health bar. It really took you out of the action, having to check something like that every few seconds.

    To be copletely honest she yearned for the scratched and bleeding knuckles of a real world fist fight. She remembered breaking her knuckles for the first time on someones jaw bone. It had been a wild punch, with her whole body behind it. To this day it was probably the most satisfying hit she had ever landed on someone. She wanted more of that. Before she hadn't really cared about getting out or not, but she was tired of clean mathematical fighting and yearned for a more wild adrenaline and pain filled fight.

    Hakai glanced around her. Parties had already formed, and she just fell into place. She hadn't payed much attention at all to the other people in her group until now. She smiled. She had gotten placed with Beat, Shield, and Zandra, really the only players that she trusted and knew. Shield especially was probably the most capable tank she had ever met, and Beat was one of the few people that she actually classified as a friend. Zandra was just an ally... Time changed a lot of things and she could honestly say that she didn't really know Zandra anymore. Her fellow party members made their moves and she waited for her chance. Finally it came after Zandra missed her attack. She dashed past Beat and Shield, calling out behind her as she did so. "Hi Beat!"

    Her katana slashed through the air, narrowly missing the boss and causing her to wish that she had bothered to invest in some accuracy. She probably had enough skill points by now, having held onto twelve or so for no particular reason other than that she hadn't bothered to choose something to invest in. She dashed back behind the safety of their tank, a bit miffed that she had missed her first attack. She hoped that that would be the extent of their bad luck. The boss would undoubtedly have some sort of dumb trick to it though. They always did.

    <<Static Charge>>: At the beginning of your turn, roll a die with the Roll Purpose “Static Charge”. The following happens based on the CD result:

    • 1-3: The effect spreads! You end up touching or getting close enough to another party member for them to gain the <<Static Charge>> debuff. The effect then deals 50 unmitigatable DMG, or 35 unmitigatable DMG if you have Survival active. The newly-affected player is determined by you, but must be someone who is not already affected by <<Static Charge>>.
    • 4-9: The effect deals 50 unmitigatable DMG, or 35 unmitigatable DMG if you have Survival active.
    • 10-12: The effect immediately ends, and no damage is taken.

    If all players in a single party gain the <<Static Charge>> debuff, they each immediately take 50 unmitigatable DMG, or 35 unmitigatable DMG if they have Survival active, and the effect ends on all players.   20. Hakai wandered up to the group of players. She had missed this sort of thing. Organized groups of players working together to kill something. It was right up her alley. Of course, she imagined that the vast majority of them were actually there for the chance at a demonic weapon. She hoisted her katana up and let it lay against her shoulder. She had missed it a lot. Thankfully Beat had given it back to her in time for this boss battle. She hoped that she had made a good friend in him. He had made her feel a lot better about herself. Her self doubt was replaced with a modicum of self confidence. It was probably only temporary though. Despite knowing that she had the conviction that she would try to be a better person, even if she eventually disappointed him. She was certain that that would happen in time. She consumed the quest item she had gotten from the King of Lakes, wishing that she had had the time to get some other consumables. As long as she didnt die she would be glad, but if she missed the last hit item because she hadn't used a damage potion she would be pissed.

  21. She laughed, glancing over at him, a playful smirk alighting on her face. "I don't even know you; I can't trust you and your instinct. Not yet at least." You could never truly know someone from knowing them for a day. Even after a year or two being close friends with someone they could still surprise you. Now on to the quests. "I had heard, which is mainly why i mentioned it. I completed most of the old ones. I'm sure that i could solo a good number of these new quests, but i've been out of action for so long that i dont have any idea how strong i am relative to them." 

    She was glad that he had agreed to do a quest with her. It would give her a chance to prove herself to him and gain some skill points at the same time. "I fully intend to join in the next boss fight, so any help getting stronger would be appreciated. Its not really about the surviving, all you need to do is be careful. Its more about getting enough damage for those last hits. I'm sure you know what i mean." She paused before hopping up to stand on her feet. 

    "Do you do damage, or do you tank?" She asked curiously. Limbo's Fang was a multi use weapon, it could be good in the hands of any type of player.

    Hakai nodded to Shield as he helped to increase her energy. She was sure that the boss would be dead before her energy really became a problem, but the gesture was appreciated all the same. She raisd her katana and rushed the enemy once again. His health was low, but not low enough for a finishing blow. She slashed her katana across the boss, refreshing the bleed effect once more. It was easy to see that the fight would be over in a matter of minutes. Only one or two more attacks and they would all get that sweet sweet SP. She found herself mildly dissapointed at how long it was taking her. She really needed to optimize her damage output somehow. She considered getting the charge skill for a moment before thinking better of it. The extra damage would be nice, but it was more of a situational skill. Maxing out her armor skill would be the safer option, and it would allow her to increase her evasion on top of that.

    Hakai gave Hestia a nod as she was healed. She hadn't really expected the action, but it was welcome. Hestia had really done very little and  Hakai had almost forgotten that she was there. With that healing though, her health bar was basically back to full. That was a very useful skill to have. it seemed as though everyone else had their own built in healing system. Maybe that was the next step in her build. She raised her katana once again.

    She rushed in, this time paying close attention to her fighting stance and the distances between her and her target. It payed off. Her katana slashed visciously, carving new sets of red lines in the skin of the boss, the bleed and paralyze symbols once again appearing. She grinned widely and dashed back, looking over at Shield and wondering if he was going to complain about the paralyzing. She was certainly lucky this fight, and she oculd only wish that she had her main weapon. If she did the fight would likely have already been over. There wasn't anything she could do about that though, so she brushed the thought aside.

     Battle: 2 Miss

    They were doing a respectable amount of damage to the boss, between her and Sey they should be finished with the fight shortly. Of course, she couldn't count out Shields thorns, although between herself and Hestia they certainly seemed to be preventing him from putting them to any use. She smirked, noting the new paralyze symbol from Hestia's actions. It was actually fairly funny. She imagined that Shield was getting a little bit annoyed. She raised her katana again after Sey had finished his attack and rushed in at the boss, eager to inflict some more damage.

    In her haste she miscalculated the distances and her slash went wide. She stumbled but immediately caught herself and leaped back to safety behind the shield that was Shield. Perhaps it was about time to invest in some accuracy skills or enhancements. As a lower level she had ignored the stat, aware that it wouldn't increase her critical rate. At the time the only thing that had really mattered to her was landing a critical hit and applying the unique effects of her weapon. Now she was able to deal decent damage by herself, just by way of her skills and weapon of choice. Perhaps she would invest some of the skill points she got from this venture into a mod for her weapon.
