Ryo sheathed his blade, the pair easily cutting down yet another mob, as he would continue the conversation. "Just to make sure it's stayed cleared out. Jomei and Lowenthal already broke in and cleared it out to get Piera." He said, wondering how the alchemist was faring these days. "And yeah, having you around would be nice. I always like having you around." He said smiling. The smile quickly faded as he remembered what that place meant. And while it was true that he wanted to make sure they stayed gone, but he was also going for himself. "I think I also want some closure. Seeing that place completely closed off and covered in dust would be a nice way to assure myself that i'm actually done with it." He said. He shook his head, clearing his head. "But that's neither here nor there. Hey, you think that's it up ahead?" He asked, pointing ahead. There was a cave up ahead in the rock structure. Large enough to see from their position, but small enough to not let something incredibly large like a dragon or something similar through. Perfect for dogs of uncomfortable sizes to hide around and bite at them.

Her sweaty hand caressed his equally sweaty face, moving his hair out of the way so that he could see properly again. He understood that it had to be done, just some floors were better suited for him than others. WHy was he so sensitive to the heat anyway? It wasn't like he was taking damage from existing here, no matter how much it felt like. The more intense heat was the issue, but Teion was right. There was no sand or sand monsters to contend with. The silver insulating heat shielding lining to this hellscapade. "Y'know what?" He said, bringing his body to its feet. "Deal. I get to pick to next place." He said, starting to think of where he would want to go. Someplace cold at least.
Crossing the flatlands wouldn't be difficult, but it would at least be a bit more boring. "We're about what, halfway there now?" He asked aloud, wondering when they'd destination. He kept thinking for a moment. "Teion I've been thinking, about going back to floor 4. Just to, make sure that the old place is still cleared out." He said, suddenly serious.

The sun had set, and he had cast his last cast. A solid amount of materials were collected AND the rainbow fish was caught as well. He put his rod away, and stood from his spot. A decent enough of a day had been had. Plenty of time to think to himself about the world, and it was nice to just be alone for it. He walked back to the Fishing NPC. "There ya are! Have any luck?" He asked, a menu popping up asking for the quest item. Ryo nodded his head, and turned in the fish and the lure he borrowed. "Yep. Thanks for letting me borrow that." The NPC laughed as he held up the still rainbow fish. "Well how about that! Can't believe these beauties are practically anywhere in Aincrad. At least, that's how the rumor is." He said, taking out a filet knife and chipping a scale off. The new material appeared in Ryo's inventory. "A gleaming scale?" He asked, looking at the item. He had only heard musings about needing these before, but he never had seen one before. Made sense at least that they'd be tied to fishing being called scales and all.

Ryo wiped the remainder of his tears away from his face. He then began to laugh. The sudden shock being overcome by his own stupidity. “I can’t believe that I didn’t recognize you!” He said slapping a hand on Acanthus shoulder. “You grew up a bit since I saw you last time. It’s gotta be the haircut.” He said, jesting as he continued to laugh. “Oi, Nym you’re invited too.” He said. “You two familiar with floor eleven? I’ve got a mansion there, we can meet up there and I’ll make sure that we get some food going. It’s not quite the same as the real world, but I found out if you take your time and use the individual ingredients rather than just the quick-recipie it works out to almost the same!” He said proud of that fact.
He let in a deep breath before babbling again. “You guys are gonna like Pennyworth, oh! And Teion might be there too.” He said, turning to Acanthus. “Teions my girlfriend. Bet you didn’t know I could get one of those huh?” He said giving a devious smirk. He continued to ramble, and shop as the moments went on.

Ignoring the hushed conversations behind him, Ryo continued to shop. A spice here, an ingredient there, a new pestle and mortar. Ryo smiled as he gathered his things. It wasn't needed, but it was always nice to have. The little things that made this virtually life seem real. However, what he didn't expect what happened next. The utterance of his name sent a chill down his spine. He froze in place, nearly dropping the fresh ginger he had just picked up. Had he told her his name before, and he forgotten? No, he didn't tell anyone his real name. Expect Teion, and he trusted her enough to not just spread that around. And the only other person who knew his real name, well they were on the Memorial.
He turned around, his eyes meeting hers. He did know her, just from where? His mind shot back to a memory of his childhood.
"See, it smells really good huh?" A small child said. "I learned so you wouldn't have to cook all the time." He said, his expression loud and bubbly. His spirit only dimmed when the person he looked up to said that they weren't hungry. A gruff voice spoke up, urging them to eat. His eyes lit up as they tried his food for the first time. It wasn't met with disgust. He chuckled to himself, marking this down as a victory.
Ryo stumbled back a bit, recognizing the woman in front of him. "You-" He stammered. "It can't be." He said, his eyes welling up. His emotions were running rampant. A woman he viewed as his older sister growing up, was here in front of him. And how could he forget her? Her family took him in after the accident, and he couldn't even bother to remember their faces? What a silly fool he was. Now not only that but she was here trapped with him in this death game. He slammed the palms of his hands into his eyes to wipe away his tears. This, sucked. She was trapped here, and she could die and then he'd lose her again. But, why was he so happy to see her? His face scrunched up as he sniffled, his emotions no longer getting the best of him. "Yeah, that's me!" He proclaimed, jabbing a thumb into his chest. "It's, good to-" He stammered. "I missed you Haru."
-
The smile that decorated Teion's features was like a bright light in the darkness. A symbol of hope in his life, something that caused him to keep trying and push himself harder everyday. Ryo's face flushed red when Teion reached up and kissed his cheek then touched his chest. Despite the metal mail, he could still feel her touch. He reached up and touched his cheek still in disbelief that she continued to be with him. The warmth from her being so close, the continued smile, her everything that made him as happy as he could be. For the slightest moment he thought about scooping her in his arms, to hold her and kiss her and to love her. The rhythmic tapping on his armor broke him from Teion's spell. "Oh definitely the tankiest for sure. Ha ha." He said agreeing with her.
No amount of cute words, bubbly smiles, or cheek kisses could undo the damage that was betrayal. She technically hadn't lied, but how was it somewhere worse? His Survival skill would ensure he'd, well, survive and not take damage. But his general disdain for hot areas, not coupled with the heavier armor would mean he'd be miserable. When Teion dragged him away, his corpse rag dolling behind her. Reaching their designated break spot, Ryo fell to his hands and knees in utter disbelief. "I can't believe you would trick me this way." He said nearly sobbing. "You said it wasn't the desert, and you took me to somewhere worse!" He said, playfully airing his grievances.

Fishing Roll
Rainbow Fish caught
ID: 242061
CD: 3 (no fish!)
LD: 4
Materials Fished: 7One last cast, and he'd be done for the day. After all, he’d just caught something, and it would be a shame to leave now, especially when the water felt so peaceful. He thought just a few more minutes wouldn’t hurt. With a soft sigh, Ryo cast his line again, watching the bobber settle on the water. He leaned back and let the rhythm of the wait wash over him, the calmness almost soothing. Minutes turned into an hour, though, and still, nothing. The fading light from the setting sun gradually slipped away, leaving him with just the faint glow of twilight. The sky turned from gold to deep purple, and the chill of evening began to settle in. Not really wanting to, but knowing it was time, Ryo reluctantly reeled the rod back in. Despite the quiet end to his fishing session, he felt satisfied overall. It had been a day well spent, and sometimes, that was all that mattered.

CD: 8 (fish!)
LD: 15
Materials Fished: 7The sun was starting to set low, casting a golden hue over the water. Had he really been here all day? No, that couldn't be right. He glanced at the sky again, trying to make sense of the passing time. This was meant to take just an hour or so, nothing more. But as the shadows grew longer, he realized how much time had slipped away unnoticed. He should probably get going soon, especially with the evening creeping in. The thought of packing up and turning in the quest lingered in his mind, but for some reason, he hesitated. What could one more cast hurt? After all, he’d been so close to a breakthrough, and a small part of him wondered if he might just get lucky again. With a quiet sigh, he tossed his line out into the water, and to his pleasant surprise, it didn’t take long for something to bite. A smile crept onto his face as he began to reel it in.

Rainbow Fish caught
ID: 242059
CD: 2 (no fish!)
LD: 12
Materials Fished: 6Another cast, another failure. The bobber sat motionless on the water’s surface, waiting for something to take the bait. Ryo let out a soft sigh but didn’t let the disappointment linger for long. It didn’t matter too much. The quiet of the lake, the gentle breeze, and the solitude had their own calming effect. For now, he was alone, and that was exactly what he needed. Time to just be with his thoughts, uninterrupted. It helped settle his mind, which had been racing with all the things happening lately. He had a day planned with Teion, someone he could always count on for a good time, but there was also the excitement of reconnecting with his cousin after such a long time apart. That reunion had stirred up a lot of memories, both good and bad. But for now, the peace of the lake was exactly the escape he needed before diving back into everything.

Ryo was about to question the woman more, but that was before there came a sudden pink motion beside him. Not started but confused, and worried that it may be another NPC wanting something from him, he turned his head. To his surprise it was someone well under his height, and looked to be in grade school. And he was even more surprised by the green player crystal over their head. Wait, did she 'plight?' He asked himself. Before he could question things further the NPC spoke more. Continuing her story about how the child's friend came back and informed her about the issue. If it wasn't the player crystal above her head, Ryo would've guessed that this person would be her friend.
Ryo was taken slightly aback when she mentioned that it would be unbecoming of a knight to turn a blind eye. Was this person, real? This was a death game, and she was treating it like some sort of isekai anime. But then again, so was he. Perhaps it was a shared coping mechanism they had. Judging from the starting gear, Ryo would surmise that they were a newbie just now starting their adventure. They had a dream it sounded like, of being a knight. Ryo smirked, and accepted the quest. "Fear not madam. We shall see to it that your daughter is found safe and sound." He said. The NPC spoke again, upon him accepting the quest. "Your e-efforts won't go to waste, I swear! I'll have something for you when you get back, I-I promise!" She said, before returning to her waiting spot. Ryo opened his menu, and locked his tier down to 1.
He turned to the knight in front of him. He gave a polite bow. "Miss Knight, I am Ryo a humble samurai. Shall we combine our strength to aid each other in this endeavor." He asked, raising from his bow and sending her a party invite.

Ryo shook his head. "I would get gleaming scales from fishing, but I'll keep an eye out for those shards. Maybe Theo can gather up those shards too." Ryo said, explaining the difference between his fishing hobby and gathering. He didn't want to get Tei's hopes up and not be able to deliver. He reached down and grabbed the teleport crystal. "Look at you battle planner." Ryo said, giving her a smirk and a wink. "Done?" He asked about her plate, empty of food. He grabbed it and moved to the kitchen sink to quickly rinse them off and set them aside. Either Pennyworth would do them, or he could just add them back to the kitchen's inventory. But there was something about just following through the motions that made everything seem more real and connected. And after his soul quest, he discovered he really needed that.
Ryo turned around to see the new armor he commissioned out and about. "Oh my!" He exclaimed. "Faster than I thought, and looks way better in person than in my mind and doodles." He said, jesting. He examined the armor and then added it to his inventory. He opened his menu and swapping his gear to test fit it. His accuracy dropped, but his survivability more than doubled. And with what he was planning, he wouldn't need accuracy anyway. The katana was sublime, everything he imagined and more. Obviously some of his beloved's best work. He attached the katana to his hip, replacing the usual Gin Kin. It felt odd, not being able to have a different sword of his hip. Regardless, he unsheathed the blade and held it to inspect it. He smiled. "These are perfect. Thank you honey." He said, giving compliments to the smith and sheathing the katana.
Now dressed for the occasion, breakfast cleaned up, he was ready to head out. "Right then. Where to first?" He asked ready to get started.

Ryo nodded as he followed Theo and Jomei. "Yeah, being kidnapped is kind of the norm?" He said, taken aback by his own statement. "I remember Teion and I got nabbed by a rogue NPC with a french accent. Good times." He said nodding along. For a brief moment, he was glad that it was Jomei getting the brunt of the questions and not himself for a change. Although Ryo was sure that Theo could answer basically anything about himself if asked which caused him to chuckle. Ryo did laugh outloud at the prospect of Jomei being part of something sinister. "Jomei? Sinister? Never." He said, placing a hand on his shoulder. "At least, I don't think so." Ryo said, look at Jomei. His gaze turned from playful, to wondering, then to bewilderment, then back to playful again. "Pfft, nah!" Ryo scoffed out loud waving a hand.
He placed his hands at his side, carrying them in his obi. "Perhaps on of you two should chat. I'm not exactly the best at that, and I have no clue what we're doing. I'm just here for the ride." He admitted.
-
Ryo placed a lid on the rice and water, letting it steam as he began to fry something. "Unique enhancements are fun." He said, engaging with the conversation as he continued to split his focus between cooking and the woman of his dreams. A two part quest cycle that would net Burn. He thought for a moment. Perhaps, that would be useful. "Burn would be nice. For a special build I'm working on. Need to get a hold of some demonics at least, and I'm working on that." He said regarding his plan on becoming a fishermen. He heard that you could get something called Gleaming Scales from them and that would be a decent collateral when trying to net those. And the gleaming scales would help him get those demonics with what he would want.
Some more cooking later, and Ryo would've produced a decent breakfast. Hearty and filling, just what they needed to start a busy day. "Extra, Sword Arts?" Ryo asked. He hadn't recalled seeing anything about that. Was that a recent change that had happened? And if so, why weren't they being used more frequently than normal? His eyes shifted to the blank parchment that was supposed to help with them finding something. "Dungeon Entrance? No idea what's in one of those. Might be good to grab some teleport crystals to be safe." He said. He met her eyes when she said 'Best part' and grinned even more when she said it wasn't a desert floor. "Alright, sounds good." Ryo said.

Rainbow Fish caught
ID: 242058
CD: 1 (fish!)
LD: 18
Materials Fished: 6But all too soon, it seemed that his luck had run out. After two successful catches, the water grew still again, and no fish appeared to be interested in his bait. He watched the bobber float quietly on the surface, his anticipation slowly fading. Perhaps this was simply what fishing was—moments of excitement followed by long stretches of nothing. A few hot streaks of success, followed by bursts of stillness and silence. Ryo leaned back, letting out a small sigh as he watched the ripples spread across the water. It was a decent enough trade-off, he supposed. The thrill of the catch was all the more rewarding when it was unpredictable, when it came after a stretch of waiting. If every time he cast the line something was caught, it wouldn’t feel nearly as satisfying. Fishing, in its own way, was about patience and the occasional rush of triumph that came with the right moment.

Rainbow Fish caught
ID: 242047
CD: 10 (fish!)
LD: 13
Materials Fished: 6Changing spots seemed to work as it didn’t take long for another fish to bite. Ryo felt the subtle tug on the line and his heart skipped a beat. With a sharp motion, he yanked the rod back, feeling the resistance on the other end. The fish fought against the pull, but Ryo was determined. He tugged and pulled, carefully reeling the line in, maintaining just the right amount of pressure. His arms felt the strain, but he kept a steady pace, guiding the fish closer. Finally, with one last firm pull, he managed to reel it in, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. Another fish added to his inventory. He quickly stored it away, feeling a small rush of satisfaction. The new spot seemed promising, far more productive than the previous one. With a quick glance at the calm water, he cast his line again, eager to see if his luck would hold.

CD: 12 (fish!)
LD: 5 (no chest?)
Materials Fished: 5Changing spots seemed to have worked. It didn’t take long for another fish to bite. Ryo’s fingers tightened around the rod as he felt the familiar tug, his heart rate quickening in anticipation. He tugged and pulled with careful precision, guiding the fish closer to the surface. The line snapped taut, and with one final, practiced yank, he reeled the fish in. Another catch added to his growing collection. He couldn’t help but smile at his success, feeling a small surge of satisfaction. The new spot on the dock seemed to be promising after all. Ryo quickly added the fish to his inventory, his movements swift and practiced. He paused for a brief moment to appreciate the quiet success before preparing for the next cast. The rhythm of fishing was calming, and despite the earlier frustrations, he felt more at ease now. With a renewed sense of determination, he cast his line out again, ready for whatever might come next.

Rainbow Fish caught
ID: 242045
CD: 6 (no fish!)
LD: 16 (no chest?)
Materials Fished: 4Reeling the empty bobber in, Ryo let out a disappointed sigh, his frustration evident as he stared at the still, undisturbed water. He had hoped for something, anything, but the lake remained silent. Maybe he had been too optimistic, or maybe the fish just weren’t biting today. He glanced around, considering his options, and thought perhaps changing spots would prove beneficial. Maybe the fish were more active elsewhere. Shrugging, he decided it was worth a try. With a quiet determination, he tossed the bobber back into the water, watching it sink and settle on the surface. He would wait and see if this new cast would bring any luck. The minutes ticked by slowly, the peaceful surroundings almost mocking his impatience. Despite his efforts, nothing happened. Not even a nibble. Defeated, Ryo sighed once more and reeled his bait back in, deciding that a change of scenery was in order. He moved to a new spot on the dock, hoping for better luck.

Rainbow Fish caught
ID: 242044
CD: 5 (no fish!)
LD: 17 (no chest?)
Materials Fished: 4His hands still shaking from the previous catch, Ryo tossed out the bobber once again. The thrill of the earlier catch hadn't quite worn off, and a quiet excitement lingered as he watched the bobber settle on the water's surface. He couldn’t help but wonder if he could catch multiple Rainbow fish. Probably not, given what the quest had stated, but it was nice to dream. Dreams had always been something he held onto tightly, and even now, amidst the quiet ripples of the lake, he let himself indulge in that fantasy. With a soft sigh, he cast out the line again, watching the bobber land with a gentle plop. The minutes passed slowly, the stillness broken only by the occasional ripple of water. He let the time slip by, focusing on the calm. After all, the previous catch had been such an unexpected stroke of luck. Perhaps he had used all of it, catching the elusive rainbow fish.
-
Another day, another possibility to find literally anything to do. Ryo opened his menu and navigated to his quest log. He grimaced at just how many quests he had done. He had completed a small handful of quests, which granted him a middling amount of experience. And the other handful he had done before had been changed from quests to field bosses. He had done a few notable ones to get some much needed skills, such as Survival to help him out on tougher floors. He figured he would start with the easier ones he could do by himself, at least before he started doing ones that would require multiple people. He could probably count on Tei if he needed help, or he could reach out to Theo if it was safe enough and he needed a proper scout. And if he needed the big guns he always had access to Jomei. With that, he would at least have some access to other frontliners as well. There was always someone around willing to help, he just needed to be loud enough.
A decent enough place to start quest hunting would be the second floor. He had grown quite tired of the first floor's fields and rolling hills. Not to mention the same NPC's day in and day out. His attention span needed to be better stimulated were he to properly go through the effort of completing more of the available quests. Had he, been to the second floor before? He was unsure, he couldn't properly remember if he had or not. The surrounding landscape was unfamiliar to him. As he took the teleport gate into the city of Urbus he was hit with his least favorite thing in the world. Being assaulted by a random NPC. "Pl-please," she begs, "I've been trying to find someone to help me all day. My child--" Ryo grimaced as the NPC practically tackled him. He held up his arms in an attempt to pry himself free of the NPC and understand what was going on. "Right. What about your lost kid?" He asked, now able to breathe. The woman spoke, hysterically. "She-- she was playing in one of the caverns in the mountains with her friend. I-I told her not to go but she didn't listen to me!" Ryo nodded along, paying attention to the NPC this time around. They weren't real people, just a bunch of pixels cobbled to resemble people. But he always emotionally connected with them. "Alright, alright." Ryo said. "Where is this cavern they were at?" He asked.

CD: 7 (no fish!)
LD: 15 (Rainbow Fish)!
Materials Fished: 4The growing inventory of materials filled him with joy. It wasn't a lot, but at least it was something. The fish were biting it seemed. And he could feel something good about to happen, he usually had a knock for that. Clearing the rod and making sure it was still good he cast. Almost instantly there was a snag on the rod. Ryo gripped his rod and tugged it like he would any other fish he had been catching. However it surprised him when it actually began to fight against him. "Oh-ho shit?" He exclaimed to himself as he fought against the fish. The fish would try to swim in one direction and Ryo would lock the string and pull the other way. When the fish would relent some he would pull high on the rod pulling the fish closer to him as he reeled in. Inch by inch he cut down on the distance and soon enough, Ryo won the contest of stamina and a fish was his prize. Reaching down and pulling the line up, Ryo gazed upon it's scaled majesty. "Holy shit, it's real." He said to himself as he stared at the sizable fish, its scales catching the light and reflecting a cascade of every color under the rainbow. His quest updated as complete, but why didn't he feel so? He didn't have to turn in the quest just yet right? He could fish a bit longer.

Reeling in his previous availed naught but water and whatever algae existed underneath the water. A few moments were spent cleaning the hook and line, making sure that it was properly maintained and cleaned before casting again. The algae was somehow sticky, and smelled strange but didn't bother Ryo too much as he tossed it back into the lake. Tossing the bobber back out into the lake, he watched as the bobber hit the surface and began to, bob. Minutes passed as nothing too serious seemed to happen. A nibble here and there, but nothing of note. Despite nothing happening, it wasn't growing boring. As time passed, the bobber dipped and Ryo pulled on the rod catching yet another fish. He added the spare materials to his ever-growing stash, feeling a small sense of satisfaction. Still no rainbow, but he was determined. The sun hung low in the sky, casting golden hues over the water, and Ryo remained hopeful.

Materials Fished: 4Ryo cast his bobber out, eager for yet another bite. He was on a roll after all. Soon he'd be able to use as much fish as he'd want to start supplying his restaurant. Even though he was catching fish, they kept turning into general materials, which meant he could use them for anything really. A smile crept along his face, the idea of turning a fish into a suit of armor, or a weapon. Then he wondered, would he be able to find anything else by fishing? He remembered old cartoons often times rewarding those with boots, or old CD's. A fun novelty to think of to be sure, but a serious notion? He figured nothing would be the better option. And judging from the slack in his line, that was to be the case. Perhaps he may find a treasure chest or two should he be fortunate enough to dredge the bottom of a treasure filled lake.

Materials Fished: 4Ryo recast his rod, hoping for another bite. That surge of adrenaline, that need for the rod to vibrate in his hands. To feel something struggle like it did, and have that test of strength against it. More minutes went by, and soon that feeling of needing the next chase were subsided by his own thoughts again. The peace came, and his thoughts leveled out. Was this, what fishing was about? The sudden high of getting a catch followed by your mind clearing and settling. Just like the surface of the water. More minutes went by before the bobber began to jiggle again. Ryo gripped his rod, ready for the bobber to sink completely. As the bobber did, he yanked the rob up catching the fish. Not the Rainbow, but still useful. If the bait was to believed, that rainbow fish would be his soon enough. But for now, another cast...
