The walls had risen, the congregation of elements aligned and pulled into essence and being. All had arrived at the call and command of the great Commander of the Elements cry. The tiny specks, annoyance incarnate, should have fallen as they were besieged by the power of the natural forces that would envelop them, overpower them, bring them to a crushing end just as all things would; fallen before the might of the elemental order. There was nothing more for them but to submit.

The eyes stared down from behind the wall of protective ice, frustration and a tinge of displeasure shifting across them as it watched them not only resist, but succeed in doing the impossible. The impossible…felling a head, leaving it desecrated and tortured. Obliterated from its natural beauty, as if it were nothing more than a simple obstacle to be overcome.

    "I don't want chaos."

        "This is a trust issue.”

The words seemed to echo through the hall, floating in as if from somewhere beyond. They lingered in Wushen’s ears, wrapping into its mind, causing it to pause. It glanced around, as if looking for something, shaking its head before turning back to the pests that scattered before it. Pests that stabbed at the heads that it had summoned, that it bore upon itself. Pests that worked together, that moved as one individual among a group of many.

It didn’t understand. It was all power, all controlling, the ruler of the elements. It would not be felled by these things. These things that should bow before it, should be thanking it for its mercy in ending them quickly. It did not understand how it could be…losing…?

It would burn them with venom, with toxins, with the very liquids of the elemental plane that would leave any beast screaming for a release from the torment. It would end them through excruciating pain and suffering, leaving nothing but their ephemeral screams to echo in the instance that they disappeared, forever.

At least, Wushen had expected to do as much. It had summoned the power of toxin in its Caustic form, unleashing a power that should have melted the flesh from whatever bones these creatures may possess. It should have found glory in the screaming of their final torment. Yet, instead, it found itself glaring at the loss of a beloved piece of itself, the pests having turned it into nothing more than a memory within the blink of its eyes…

    Wushen, Elemental Warlord | HP: ????/???? | DMG: 200 | MITI: 75 | ACC: 4(+3) | EVA: 0
    [Cannot be Targeted with Attacks]

    Petty:

    • Using [Delay] sword arts (Does not stack) will reduce the next BD 9-10 effect that a head will produce to BD:10 only, making a BD: 9 a normal attack.
    • In addition, a player using a Mass Healing Crystal without any hatred generation skills/enhancements gain +2 Hatred.
    • BD 9-10, Applies Keen 3 and Focus to Wushen, Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth

    Beyond Care:

    • Each round at the start of the bosses turn before its post action, the highest hate from each group decays by -1. In the event of a draw then this ability targets the player that has any hatred generation skills/enhancements. If none is present it will be the last player to generate hatred outside of attacking.
    • In addition, every successful attack made against the player with the highest hate by Wushen directly reduces their hatred by -2

    Larger than Life:

    • DoT’s last half as long.
    • Wushen is immune to disables. However, when a Disable is applied, DoT effects applied in the same round will last their full duration. This also breaks Wushen's concealment on his HP Bars
    • Enhancement effects that match the element of a head are ineffective. Please see the head in question to see what enhancements it matches.

    Multi-Faceted:
During Phase 2, A number of different heads will cycle to each available party. One of the following heads will become targetable by a team: Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth. If this head is felled, but any other remain standing it will become Flailing. These heads utilize Wushen's hatred values. The total HP of Wushen are shared with Heads, destroying one of the heads deals its full maximum to Wushen when felled.

    Cauterize:
After a head enters the Flailing state where it cannot be targeted except by healing effects, it remains at 0 HP. Using the First Aid skill or a healing item directly targeting (No Mass Heals/Field Medic target a specific creature) it will close off the wound and stop it from attacking temporarily. Using these effects on a Flailing head does not restore the bosses HP.

    Cordoned Room:
During Phase 2, The entire chamber will be closed off in sections using ice isolating the parties from interacting with heads not within their reach. This barrier can be conversed through but cannot be passed. Once a party's head (
Brimstone, Caustic, Novalite, Serration, Overgrowth) has been felled, players can as a post action begin to work to lower the barrier. Burning holes through the ice walls in some way by obtaining a combined LD total of 15 will melt them. Only LD bonuses from the following apply:

    • Nimble Addon
    • Searching Skill
    • Scouting Familiar Skill

This action must be done to continue to attack the body by each party once the head has been destroyed.

    Total Destruction:

    • When all spawned heads are felled, the boss will attempt to regenerate them as a post action.
    • In addition, Cordoned Room will be re-activated

    Guidelines
    - Players will have until 11:59 PM EDT on AUGUST 31st to make their posts.

  2. Wushen.png.e062d5bf203067e6506d60a456bff7f2.png.e086ce4ad800fed1a79b5c7c0c801c9d.png

A surge of outrage rang the chamber, as the vocal decree of annihilation bled from the commander of the elements. The wave washed over all present as the ground quivered. These tiny specks that speckled the stone beneath its once held prison, sharpening knives on its tough hide and gaining little purchase.

Wushen's eyes flare in disgust, the sky began to darken. The air began to swell, feeling the potent presence of the beast. The cacophony of words continued to bounce off the walls, as even still the shackles to its prison continued to shatter. There were a few noteworthy phrases that stuck out among the overwhelming chattering and discourse:

"I just don’t think they contribute as much"

“You don’t feel it necessary to defend me"

              "I don't want chaos"

"I gotta stand for them before anyone else."

                        "This is a trust issue."

Through division they fall, and through their inaction all life would end. The massive maw of Wushen opens and reveals the glowing sun within, as the spheres above its massive stature begin to seek its gullet. Blooming from its side are seeming translucent apparitions sporting Wushen's mantle. A glistening cascade of crystal-clear water begins to trickle from the tightly-knit spaces between Wushen's scales. An enigmatic force takes hold of the water, bending it into unnatural paths and giving birth to a turbulent whirlpool. Within this swirling mass, sparks of yellow energy ignite, playfully dancing and leaping from the core of the vortex. Like a mesmerizing apparition, an illusory image of a dragon emerges, its entire form crafted from flowing, ethereal blue energy. This spectral dragon mimics Wushen's physical shape, adding yet another head to the fearsome creature. As this translucent, secondary head of the mighty Lord makes itself known, the water that spawned it spills onto the cavern floor, creating a long channel between each grouping of players.

Glowing yellow eyes pulsate with electric energy, filling the air with an electrifying charge that causes the hairs on the back of the players' necks to stand on end. With a deafening roar that reverberates like rolling thunder, the air around the players becomes incredibly cold within an instant. The streams of water stretching out from Wushen begin to lighten, and freeze, before building upwards and creating thick walls of ice the split off the groups from each other.  Slowly, the head retracts, with what could only be assumes to be a smile on its face.. as it prepares the players for a fight unlike they have ever faced.

    <<Cordoned Room>> Activated!

Concealed behind an opaque wall of ice that hid Wushen behind its splendor, players would notice to their sides that the other teams were gone behind these barriers. Stuck in isolation, no one to save them but their teams.

    Overgrowth.png

Punching through that barricade, revealed the beast that would deal with their insurrection. Thick roots burst from under Wushen's scales, clinging to the side of the elemental dragon. As if watching a tall tree grow within seconds, an ethereal form extends forth, reaching its apex before twisting and curling into its more, typical serpent-like shape. This sinister arboreal creature embodies an eerie and twisted fusion of wood and malevolence. Its monstrous form exudes an unsettling presence, with gnarled, jagged branches forming its scales, giving it a fearsome and foreboding appearance. Its contorted silhouette seems to whisper tales of ancient malevolence, foretelling ominous deeds to come.

The very presence of Overgrowth disrupts the harmony of the natural world, as it twists and corrupts the once life-giving force of wood into a sinister and destructive power, instilling fear and trepidation in all who dare to face its malefic gaze.

Punching through that barricade, revealed the beast that would deal with their insurrection. The scales that compose Wushen's imposing figure undergo a sudden transformation, the once dark hues now giving way to an eerie discoloration. The alteration remains confined to a specific section of its neck, where the black scales take on a rugged, brown appearance akin to weathered stone. To the astonishment of those present, these stone-like scales begin to exude a vivid green substance, resembling a potent acid that burns and sizzles upon contact with anything unfortunate enough to be touched by it. Curiously, the Elemental Warlord remains untouched by the acidic secretion.

    Caustic.png

In a startling display, a jet of vile, green acid shoots forth into the air like a geyser, narrowly missing the onlookers who have gathered to witness this peculiar spectacle. Emerging from the very form of Wushen, another head manifests itself, though it appears slightly transparent and ethereal. The elemental dragon's skin takes on a rough, jagged texture, giving it the appearance of being entirely composed of stone. The creature fixes its sickly green eyes on the gathering of players, seemingly hungry for the impending confrontation. As anticipation looms, drool drips from its maw, each droplet causing the ground to sizzle and dissolve beneath it, leaving behind nothing but smoldering craters.

The group finds themselves confronted with a dreadful fate, for the elemental entity known as Caustic has joined the fray.

Gridlock: When reaching 50% of its total HP, further damage is ignored until it transitions to phase 2. Transitioning to phase 2 consumes its post action.

    <<Cordoned Room>> Activated!Novalite.png

Concealed behind an opaque wall of ice that hid Wushen behind its splendor, players would notice to their sides that the other teams were gone behind these barriers. Stuck in isolation, no one to save them but their teams.

Punching through that barricade, revealed the beast that would deal with their insurrection. An all too familiar face emerges from behind the walls of ice. The icy blue form of Novalite looks down on its next targets, bolts of electric energy sparking and lashing out, teasing the players by crashing into the ground at their feet.

  5. "I find it apt," came a voice from stage left, "that you might quote the Shakespearean work with the longest soliloquy." A bearded man in robes of a deep cobalt blue regarded Raidou, making no effort to hide the charged annoyance that sizzled along every curve and line of his body. "I suspect that you have a fondness for soliloquies. Must you speak aloud to organize your own thoughts? Or do you simply take pleasure in listening to yourself talk?"

Striding forward, Destin of Ronbaru entered the fray. The thud of his soft-soled shoes on the wooden stage seemed impossibly loud, as if the theater itself hoped to announce his arrival. He came to a stop beside the Red Wanderer, peering down his nose at the Player. Though he had only a few inches of height on him, it might as well have been a few feet. "Now," Destin began, "I'll remind you that you are a guest in my house. You are also a guest to this event. Your threats, your condescension, and your showboating have no place in a gathering of good, civilized people. To be quite frank, I don't believe it has a place anywhere, but that is a discussion for another day."

A small, humorless smile cracked his weathered face. "I do not care about your military, your guild, or your 'frontlines,' whatever those are. I have complete faith that the brave men and women of Braso will not hesitate to meet any true threat, aided by the farmers of Dagan, the tradesmen of Srona, and the brilliant political minds of Ordsea." He paused to slant a glance at the gathered representatives, who watched him in silent bewilderment. "You are not the main character in this production, outsider," he continued. "I'm not convinced that you even have a role at all. But should you decide to make a move against us, we will put you down, and the bards of Ronbaru will sing of it for years to come."

"With that out of the way," Destin concluded, smoothing his robes as if to brush away crumbs, "I'll ask you to leave my chair, and find yourself another." With a dismissive flick of his wrist, he motioned to the audience. "There are oh so many to choose from."

Finally seating himself at the roundtable, the elderly man flashed his first genuine smile. "I apologize for the tardiness. President Hugh assured me that my presence was neither wanted, nor needed, at this assembly."

As all five gazes swung in unison toward Hugh, the man vehemently shook his head. "I meant no disrespect," he replied, to Destin, but also to everyone in attendance. "I simply thought that it might be awkward, given that nothing has happened to Ronbaru. I wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable."

"Be that as it may," Destin went on, "I believe that my being here can still help in some way. President Brienne apparently does too, given as she sent for me." Hugh opened his mouth to speak again, but Destin closed the door on him. "Shall we return to the questions, then?"

Tiberius, though still a bit shell-shocked by both Raidou and Destin, managed a quick disagreement. "I still think Brienne is hiding something. You too, Destin, since Ronbaru wasn't affected at all."

"Perhaps she is," was his simple answer. "Perhaps I am, too. Do you not think it best to answer these fine peoples' questions, and let the truth come to the surface all on its own?"

The farmer frowned, but still gave a curt nod and sat back in his seat.

"Excellent." With a crisp clap of his hands, Destin looked to the crowd. "Logistics and planning are largely handled by each territory's own leadership. However, Ordsea often supplies delegations when asked to do so, usually to handle disputes, disasters, and otherwise tricky business. Is that a fair assessment?" Tiberius, Percival, Brienne, and Fudral all nodded. "As for your second question, I believe history would disagree with you. Leaders often do tremendously heinous things in the spirit of 'caring for their people.' My library is filled with examples of it." He turned to quickly scan the men and women on stage, starting with Tiberius, and ending with Hugh. "Whether anyone here would do such a thing remains to be seen."

Turning next to Demian, Destin began, "Now that I'm here, I will be glad to stand for Ronbaru. However, I feel these questions might be better answered by others."

Tiberius heaved one of his trademark sighs, then shifted forward to prop his arms on the table. "I don't want chaos," he corrected. "I want what's best for Dagan. They're my people, and I gotta stand for them before anyone else." He scrunched up his face, as if he'd smelled something rotten. "I don't much like everyone else," he admitted finally. "But do I really have to to do my job? I don't figure every leader in our history liked everyone else, but there was trust. There's none of that now."

Brienne, surprisingly, nodded her agreement with the man who'd been accusing her only moments before. "He's right," she confessed. "This is a trust issue. How do I trust the territories that send armed men who try to kill me?" Beside her, Fudral shifted uncomfortably. Brienne smiled wryly. "If I go back to Ordsea and tell them that they're at the mercy of the other territories, I suspect I'll be drawn and quartered. I stood on a platform of unity, after all."

As the President fell silent, Destin spoke again. "As far as I know, no one has tried to move the crystals. They're just a part of the landscape, though they do change color to signify what region a person is in." He scratched at his short beard. "I suppose there could be others out there, though I'm not sure what significance that might hold." Turning to Kagami, he added, "I have no knowledge of crystals being moved, and I haven't come across any literature pertaining to it."

The scholar rolled his shoulders, then asked, "Are there any further questions?"

  6. Steel clashed against steel as Aincrad's finest pushed back the opposing pirate forces. Reinforcements from the invading party continued to file from their smaller vessels that kept the Duchess Sincere locked within the air. Even though the lowly pirates were no match for the combined strength of the players, it was obvious that this was becoming a war of attrition. The player's strength was waning, their energy levels quickly depleting, and the pirates seemed never ending. A constant foe that needed to be dealt with.

    That was the case, until..

    SNAP

One of the tethers that anchored one of the manta-shaped air ships split, due to the combined efforts of the players. The pirate's vessel struggled to gain control, when suddenly a second rope snapped, sending a secondary manta ship up into the air after it. The two collided in the air, the resulting fireball sending a rain of fire and debris down to the surface of Landonia. A third tether was severed, as most of the airship regained control. However, even though only one, smaller ship kept its grip upon the Duchess, they were still kept from making a full escape.

The two captains continued to duel; the grace of Daemon Xandis against the brute strength of Adam Loughran. One side not able to gain a winning advantage over the other, even though the pirate's forces were clearly being diminished by the second at this point.

"Give it up, Adam. You know you've lost."

The hulking pirate only responded with a growl, before planting a heavy foot into Xandis' chest.

"Fine! You want to be a captain? You can have the ship.. and go down with it."

Swinging his axe wildly, Loughran would sever the last of the anchors that kept the Duchess at bay. With his free hand, he would grab onto the rope to make his retreat. "Ready the cannons! I want to see you and this ship go down in flames.. You had your chance to come back to me. Now you'll die with everyone else."  The cannons on the ship above would rotate into position, readying themselves for Loughran's order to obliterate the Duchess and everyone aboard.

"Full speed ahead! Get everyone out of here! I'm not letting him get away this time.." Xandis would shout as they turned towards Loughran, who readied themselves on the handing rope. Knowing their options were limited, Xandis quickly rushed after the retreating form of Loughran, leaping at the hanging pirate just before they were out of reach. Grabbing onto the pirate captain and the rope he was suspended from. "You wanted me so bad.." Xandis would say, "..Then let me be the last lips you taste." Pressing their lips forcefully into his was just enough of a distraction so they could get away with cutting the rope just above Loughran's hand.

The shouts of the pirate captain faded, as the two plummeted towards the ground below at a quickly increasing pace. With no captain to give the order, a moment of tension would pass before the single, manta-ray shaped pirate vessel turned and retreated into the night sky.

    As the crew of the Duchess rushed back to the control room, with the help of the player who - somehow - took control during the invasion, they were able to return to port safely. As the players who attended the event made their way across the bridge connecting the heavily damaged Duchess and the Landonian tower, they were left with a single question;

Was the pirate attack scripted? Or was this some random encounter that they were not meant to take part in?

  7. All four representatives nodded in unison as the dark-haired Player asked her questions. When no one jumped to answer, Brienne finally leaned forward. “Well, Ordsea had the unfortunate incident at the Presidential Estate, where a group of bandits attempted to steal important documents. Most ran off after their attempts were thwarted.” Her expression hardened, and she spoke the last bit as if each word pained her. “However, one man was killed by my bodyguard.”

Perhaps due to the mention of the bandits, all gazes tracked next to Fudral. He heaved a small sigh. “Those bandits trained under me at Targok.” He hesitated, unsure if the audience knew what that was, then added, “That’s our main training camp, in Braso. The men who attacked President Brienne had been disciplined for dishonorable behavior. They robbed an armory. To my knowledge, nothing else has happened to us.” The discomfort on his weathered face suggested that alone was more than enough trouble for one man to handle.

Percival raised a hand. “The fire,” he stated simply, before turning to face Tiberius.

Shifting beneath the collective gaze, the half-dwarf crossed his arms tightly across his chest. “We had that cave-in.”

“As for the day,” Brienne mused aloud, “I believe the bandits came five days ago.”

Fudral thought for a moment. “That does sound about right, actually.” Both Percival and Tiberius nodded their agreements, prompting the commander to speak again. “I did not realize that it all happened at the same time.”

Brienne lifted a finger, pointing at Fudral as she said, “It does give some credibility to your idea that it’s all connected. But I can’t for the life of me figure out how, or why.” Addressing the man at the podium now, she continued, “I had my opposition while running for President; President Hugh literally ran against me, and I didn’t win by much. But I’m not sure what that would have to do with the other territories. And there really aren’t any neighboring countries to speak of.”

“I can understand why the bandits would be angry with me, and perhaps all of Braso,” Fudral stated. “I do not know what possessed them to go to Ordsea.”

Percival shrugged. “Before the fire, I’d have said we had no enemies. We build things for all the territories, and provide medicine to anyone who needs it. Though with our limited supplies, we may have to be more selective.”

“Aye,” Tiberius agreed. “Those caves provided the best soil for our crops. Without them, we won’t be able to feed everyone anymore. Gonna have to do some prioritizing.” A shadow crossed Brienne’s face, and she opened her mouth to say something, but Tiberius spoke again. “Not sure about Ronbaru though. It is kinda odd that they’re not here.”

Brienne shifted in her chair, attempting to call to her aid without drawing attention to herself. “Please go locate Destin,” she murmured. “He really needs to be here.” When she turned back to the discussion, Tiberius was still talking.

“Can’t say I know anything about them. Not really my type.”

“What do you mean by ‘your type?’” Brienne countered.

“You know.” Tiberius shrugged lazily. “The artsy kind. Lot of reading and writing and being sad or something. Never really understood it. Not actually out there working, putting in an honest day’s like the rest of us.” He gestured toward Percival. “You get it.”

Clearly uncomfortable, Percival shook his head. “I-I’m afraid I don’t. I have no problem with the people of Ronbaru.”

“Oh I don’t have a problem with them, exactly,” Tiberius corrected, though he didn’t appear overly bothered by the misunderstanding. “I just don’t think they contribute as much as the other territories do. Not like Srona or Braso.”

Brienne blinked, then leaned forward to peer around Percival. Each word she spoke cut like a knife, and carried undeniable annoyance. “Is there a reason that you might have excluded Ordsea from your list?”

“Well yes,” Tiberius replied plainly. “You lot don’t contribute either.”

Silence fell, broken seconds later by the scrape of Brienne’s chair as she found her feet. Her body, and her voice, trembled with barely contained rage. “Would you mind elaborating on that?”

With another shrug, Tiberius obliged. “Dagan feeds everyone. Srona makes the medicine, and builds things. Braso trains the soldiers.” He twirled a hand in the air, as if searching for the words. “Ronbaru just has their art thing, which no one really needs. And since you asked, I don’t know what Ordsea’s purpose is at all.”

This time, it was Percival who took up the mediator role. “Tiberius,” he cautioned, but Tiberius rounded on him.

“Don’t play dumb. You have hardly any medicine left. Who are you giving it to? The nobles in Ordsea, or your own people?”

“My own people,” came Percival’s honest answer, and he dropped his gaze to his lap.

Tiberius jabbed a finger toward the alchemist, then stood, squaring off against Brienne across the table. “And those nobles sure as hell aren’t getting any of our food. It’ll go to the tradesmen, the farmers, and the soldiers - those who have actually earned it.”

“And what of Ordsea? And Ronbaru?” Brienne clasped her hand into a fist, pounding it on the tabletop. “You’ll sit by while they starve?”

“If they get hungry enough, they’ll take off their fancy shoes and get in the dirt, just like the rest of us.”

“We’re in this together!” She tried once more. “We must look out for each other!”

Tiberius’ face lit with a dark pleasure, as if he’d been waiting for her to say just that. “Look out for each other?” he snarled. “The same way you looked out for us after the cave-in? Where was that aid, President Brienne?” He practically spit her title before continuing, “And where were you after Srona’s fire? Too busy arguing semantics to actually offer help. You’re so damn sure it was an accident. Or do you know that it wasn’t, and you’re trying to avoid blame? Maybe you’re not so innocent. Maybe you arranged the bandit attack to appear a victim like the rest of us. Hell, maybe you worked with Fudral to set it all up!”

The commander surged to his feet. “I will not allow you to drag me into this.”

Brienne’s face flushed, and betrayal washed over her as she turned to Fudral. “That’s what you took from his words?” she asked the man she’d considered an ally. “You don’t feel it necessary to defend me, or Ordsea?”

Fudral hesitated only a beat, then answered simply, “I cannot speak to those accusations.”

Victorious, Tiberius sneered at Brienne. “Looks like we’re all in agreement. No more taking what you haven’t earned. Adapt or die. It’s your choice, and I don’t really care one way or the other. It’s every man for himself now.”

Light drawn into darkness cast no shadows in the presence of the Elemental Warlord. Instead, everything traveled back to him, like a river subjugated to flow in reverse. Something had cracked, somewhere in space and time, and the fault lines were shifting rapidly. The room had not shifted, and yet, all of them suddenly had.

Where Wushen once floated in the air above them, their best efforts resulting in lunging attacks and charges that buffeted against his scales like water on rock, now their sense of direction was wrong.

Wushen was not above them, but below. Or was he within? All around? Perception stalled as soft words permeated the room, filling the ears of the Players with nonsensical sentiment.

    “You lot don’t contribute either.”

The voice did not belong to anyone present; nor did it seem to come from the Draconic beast. It seemed to rise up and return to nowhere, awash in a sea of nothingness.

“And those nobles sure as hell aren’t getting any of our food. It’ll go to the tradesmen, the farmers, and the soldiers - those who have actually earned it.”

And so blew the black wind. The soft, eerie whispers that wafted through the boss room erupted into ear-shattering screams. Some unseen entity's rage fanned the flames, and the seal that maintained Wushen's ennui shattered.

  11. Percival studied the woman with the flaming red hair, allowing Senno to finish her thought before he interjected with one of his own. “We‘re not soldiers,” he stated matter-of-factly. Though his tone suggested that response alone was sufficient, he did eventually continue. “We’re scientists, and carpenters, and smiths, and healers, and we’re not soldiers. We don’t have guards.” He paused, then blew out a long breath. “We’ve never needed them before. Before now, I guess.” Silence filled the massive space for a few seconds, and then Percival added, “Of course I’m upset that it happened, but I don’t blame my people for not predicting it. There was no way that we could have. All I want is justice, or at the very least, for it to be labeled what it is - a deliberate attempt to sabotage Srona.”

In the moment, it looked like some of the fire had begun to leave the NPC. Oji’s words might as well have been soft breath on the dying embers, sparking the flames back to life. “A man of standing?” he echoed, his voice dangerously measured as he glared at the Player. “I’ll overlook your incredibly insensitive phrasing,” he began, thumping a fist on the arm of his wheelchair, “only because I find the rest of your statement far more egregious. I am not up here raging blindly like some crazed bull. I’m demanding that my people get that justice. Maybe I’m passionate, but that’s because I actually care. I wish the rest of these representatives would do the same.” With that, he shoved back from the table, and began to cross the stage toward the ramp in the back.

“Mister Percival, please come back,” Hugh called after him, but the words were spoken with very little conviction.

“Wait,” came Fudral’s deep voice, the simple command booming like a thunderclap. Percival listened, and though he turned, he did not return to the table. Fudral stood, regarding the alchemist over the heads of the other two at the table. “Do you think I don’t know what it is to be angry? A group of men under my charge armed themselves and stormed the presidential estate. If they’d taken lives, that blood would be on my hands.” As if to emphasize, he lifted his dinner-plate sized hands, then dropped them again. “So yes, I am angry. I will remain that way until we’ve solved this.” He sat, then gestured to the empty space at the table. “I will not outright dismiss your claims of arson if you return and discuss them with us in a way that our audience finds agreeable.” His dark eyes slanted toward Oji before returning to his fellow representative. “Can you agree to that?”

While he said nothing, Percival wheeled his chair back to the table.

“Now that we are all together again,” Hugh observed with a clap of his hands, “let us address this man’s question. What does everyone think of the accident in Srona?”

Percival’s jaw tightened at the word ‘accident,’ but he simply replied, “I’ve said my bit. The building was doused in lamp oil. That doesn’t happen by accident.”

All eyes shifted to Tiberius, who shrugged. “All I know is that the medicine wasn’t there when my people needed it, and that was a damn shame.”

As the attention shifted again, Brienne clasped her hands together on top of the table. “I just can’t think of a reason why someone would burn the supply. That medicine is vital to all of us, not only those in Srona.” Pausing to nod to Tiberius, she added, “As demonstrated by Dagan.”

From his spot at the end of the table, Fudral spoke. Though a man of his stature could never be called soft, his voice came quieter than before. “Aye, I suppose in that sense, you're right. It was not merely an attack on Srona. It was an attack on us all.”

It was an act nothing short of miraculous, surely, that they could persist in opposition to Wushen. The Dragon could not conceive of a reality where such brazen defiance would happen, and yet, here such a thing unfolded before its very eyes. It was enough to draw Wushen's gaze into focus, to pull the creature backward from liminal infinity and draw its consciousness from the void.

For the first time, Wushen opened its maw wide, and a blasphemous sound came forth. It was quiet at first, so much so that if Nari and her compatriots listened even closely, they might not have heard. But as it grew, it became almost pleasant, rapturous, brimming with vitality. It continued to reach new heights, warping, twisting from the angelic harmony to a wretched, wailing cry. Agony at the basardization of life that had been forced on Wushen. Anguish at having to watch as the farce dragged on. Despair that was only staved off by the sheer hope that it would succeed in its duty.

It grew so loud, so unbearable, that within the range of that hideous yawn, they might mistake it for rage.

The Dragon tired of their resistance.

It raised up, towering over them, undulating in the air and it compressed time and space, severing the threads around the Frontliners. Gravity began to exacerbate, tearing at the edges of Lessa's person, seeking to send her face first into the ground.

The first failed not once, but twice at holding its attention. Wushen had noted the same shape, that same defiance that burned around the woman. A third time, and it might have glanced her way- if only long enough to put an end to her.

But another had stepped forward. And not simply stepped, but dared to utter a challenge to the Elemental Warlord. His words were unintelligible, and ultimately, the Dragon did not care to understand. What it comprehended was motive. Intent was everything, and this newcomer expressed it in no uncertain terms.

The others spoke among themselves. They doubtless shouted tactics across the aether, words of affirmation, of hope, of a desire for continued survival and solidarity. This brazen, amber eyed knight was filled with an emotion that Wushen understood all too well.

    Anger understood Anger.

In a long forgotten tongue, in a voice that caused the sky to shudder, Wushen uttered profane words. Words that echoed through the clouds, that made thunder clap, that willed the floor itself to tremble. It spoke into reality something hideous.

An attack meant expressly for the would-be challenger, to remind him of his place.

To Wushen, Alkor was less than Nothing.

    They all were.

They swarmed the beast on wings of hope, seeking freedom. It's demise promised a step closer, and yet, its presence promised death. Existing forever in Paradox was the nature of Wushen, herald of a Promised End. But an End to what?

Their struggle would continue if they persisted here. Perhaps they won, and managed to amble forward to another hopeless situation- no. There was nothing to be gained from such an action. Surely, these gnats recognized this?

Judging by their continued efforts, Wushen could only conclude that was not the case. They wanted freedom, despite the depth and gravity of the cost. They wanted to live in spite of the cold, comfortable embrace of Oblivion.

    Oh, how deluded they were.

It's eyes had grown a more brilliant golden color, and now focused slits took form perfectly in their center. They had succeeded in rousing the Warlord of Elements from slumber. Only a matter of time need pass now before he offered them the escape that they did not know they craved.

An exit from this place, without the vain struggle.

The most resilient pest continued to buzz a bit louder than the rest, which Wushen regarded by allowing a dark mist to roil out from its open maw, spreading out through the air. It unfurled, creeping, crawling, skittering up and binding itself around Freyd's legs. It sought to ensnare him, to peel him to the floor.

He would be made to recognize the superior being yet.

They came rushing outwards and around, fleeing beneath its form as if a fly to a beast. It felt contempt as they moved around it, bit at it, gnawed upon its flesh. It felt the contempt shift to frustration - not anger, these things deserved no anger. Frustration as they tried to draw its attention towards them. It could feel the bit of tooth and claw, like insects sliding between its glorious scales.

Wushen ignored their cries, their attempts to draw it out. It wanted nothing more than to lash out uncontrollably at the little fleas around its body, but something held it back. It was not pity, nor restraint… it could feel that the time was not right. Not yet. It waited, patiently, watching as the small insectoid sized creatures moved throughout its home, intruders that showed nothing more than disgrace and disgustful behavior. It would have its revenge, soon…

They were persistent little creatures. It would acknowledge that in their stead. Persistent, but not long lasting. It knew no fear as it stared down at the things, readying itself. Its body coiled, pulling back as it prepared to swat those who dared draw close enough to irk the ire of Wushen. It had not slumbered all this time only to suffer these things.

It watched, above them as it would always be, as the humanoid things rushed around it chaotically. It assumed that they had purpose, plan or intent - and yet it did not care. It watched in humorous as one seemed to freeze with indecision and fear. It chittered with others, as if to call them to its side in protection, even though it wore scales thicker than those around it.

Wushen felt pity for the beings - pity that they were lost, confused, without purpose. Pity that they dared stand against it, to bring its wrath down upon them. Pity, that they dared awaken it from the slumber it had been within for so long. Pity, which gave way to contempt, and then frustration.

The small hiss that escaped its mouth was followed quickly by a snapping of its tail, lashing out at whichever of the insignificant things came closest to its form. It would end these things quickly, and return to the slumber it had lost. And then, it would forget this ever happened…

As they moved around and beneath it, Wushen felt a single response. A desire to end them, to bring them to their knees, to silence their chittering and biting. It wanted nothing more than to return to its slumber, unbothered by things that were nothing to it. It lashed out with its tail, its claws, gnashing its teeth as its frustration mounted further and further within it…

They moved in small groups - clusters of pests that seemed to follow one who led many. Wushen could see one of these - coiled within shadow and cloak, attempting to create for itself a vestige. A name. A notoriety among those that surrounded it. It called to Wushen, and yet it was little more than a pest - a thing to be swatted, and forgotten. The wyrm flicked its tail, lashing out lazily towards the pest, turning its eyes elsewhere, on to more important things…

  18. "It was arson," Percival replied simply.

Brienne lifted a hand, as if she might pat down the alchemist's mounting anger. "Percival," she said, "you can't throw an accusation around like that without proof."

Percival's brown eyes flashed behind his half-moon spectacles. "Accusation? Proof? I have proof. The entire place reeked of lamp oil."

"Could one of your people accidentally knocked a lamp over? The oil is so flammable, and-"

"My people are careful." Percival's red-hot fury had cooled into something hard and cold - somehow, that was far scarier. "My people don't just sprinkle lamp oil around. MY PEOPLE know how valuable our Ushiame Flowers are, considering they risk their lives every day to collect them from the Grove Guardian."

President Brienne prided herself on her ability to read people, but it didn't take much skill to pick up on the Sronian's rage. "I meant no disrespect," she began slowly, now selecting each word carefully. "I just want to ensure that we're not pinning blame on anyone when all we're dealing with is a terrible, tragic accident. Like the cave-in in Dagan."

At the mention of his territory, Tiberius glanced up from the scuff on the tabletop he'd been staring at. His gaze came to rest on Brienne. His dwarfish face remained bereft of emotion, but when he spoke, traces of disdain swam just beneath the surface. "You're pretty damn sure that fire was an accident, aren't you?"

    The Ronbaru Roundtable

The theater was spectacular. It left no question as to why it was one of the city’s crown jewels, drawing crowds even when no shows performed on-stage. While the library attracted the scholars, the theater seduced the poets, the romantics, the artists, and those who simply felt “found” among the velvet-covered seats. Everything from comedy acts to operas marched across the marquee, and patrons always left feeling just a bit lighter than when they’d entered. Of course, some of that came from the beauty of the building itself. The space was magnificent, with lush carpet, ornate sconces, and wooden beams polished to gleaming. Though the grand foyer was decorated in the rich blues of Ronbaru, the hall itself represented the other four territories in beautiful harmony. That was what the theater was, of course - a testament to the melting pot that was the central city.

If Hugh appreciated the beauty that surrounded him, he gave no indication. He strode to the podium situated stage left, smoothing the nonexistent wrinkles from his suit coat as he went. He gave a dramatic clearing of his throat, demanding the attention of all who occupied the leaf-green seats. During his tenure as President of Ordsea, he’d perfected the art of keeping all eyes on him.

“Greetings all, and thank you for joining me for this roundtable event.” As he spoke, he motioned to the table (incidentally, not round) that stood at the center of the stage. Four individuals sat there, none looking especially at-ease, or happy to be participating. “For those of you who are not familiar, allow me to introduce them.”

First, he pointed to a middle-aged man in plain clothing. Though the breeches and tunic were clean, they were worn, and clashed badly with the opulence surrounding him. The man himself appeared to clash with the theater, as he clearly wished that he were anywhere else. “This is Tiberius, a representative of Dagan’s farmers guild. Tiberius, is there anything that you’d like to say?”

    “No.”

Not missing a beat, Hugh blazed on. “Next, we have Percival, Srona’s lead alchemist, and the-”

The scholarly man pounded a fist on the table top, silencing Hugh before crying out, “Someone set fire to our medicine! Why would they do that, if not to weaken us?” If he weren’t bound to a wheelchair, he likely would have leapt to his feet as he spoke.

“I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for the fire.” The only woman at the table spoke with a practiced, even tone. “All we need to do is-”

“Do what, exactly?” Percival snapped, his voice like the crack of the whip, and carrying just as much sting.

The black-haired woman recoiled. “I beg your pardon?”

“When’s the last time you even came to Srona, huh? You talk a big talk about ‘unification,’ but you sit up there in your mansion and do nothing while valuable supplies burn. Did you do anything to help Dagan when their cave collapsed and their people were trapped?”

Percival jabbed a finger at Tiberius, who simply raised both hands in the universal symbol for ‘leave me out of this.’

“That’s enough, Percival,” boomed the deep, dark voice of the fourth and final panelist. The dwarf stood, and though that did not provide him much height, the bulk of his body and his armor commanded the attention of all in attendance.

Silence fell, and Hugh recognized that as the perfect place for him to re-enter the conversation. “The final two individuals that we heard from were Brienne, current President of Ordsea, and Commander Fudral, of Braso. Destin, a librarian with the Lapis Society, has agreed to represent Ronbaru should the need arise. He also arranged the use of this theater.”

With a flourish, he finally pressed a hand to his chest. “And of course, my name is President Hugh. Though I served as Ordsea’s President until Miss Brienne took over, I will be representing only everyone’s best interests as we move forward with this meeting. The four leaders of their respective territories have agreed to take public questions, in hopes that they might spur discussion that leads to a peaceful conclusion to all this horrible unrest.”

He paused to gesture to a place just in front of the stage. “If you’d like to make a query, you are invited to move to this spot to do so. Or, if you speak loudly enough, you may call out from your seats. You may also step out into the foyer, where refreshments have been provided. All I ask is that you maintain a certain level of decorum while you are here. We are doing very, very important work.” He did not look at the gathered representatives, but surely he felt the negative energy rolling off them in waves.

Clapping his hands together, Hugh declared, “Let us begin!”

    INFORMATION

This activity is all about discussion, diplomacy, and bringing an end to the disputes between the territories. Your task is to find out what's actually going on the 27th floor through careful question asking, and interpretation of the answers given.

    1. You are not required to ask a question every round. You are, however, required to post every round. You can describe your character talking with another person in the audience, wandering the theater, grabbing snacks, or simply internal monologue-ing about what they're seeing.
    2. Discussion in the Event Discord channel is encouraged, but please do your best to also help your characters reach conclusions in the thread itself through roleplay.
    3. There will be no combat, no threat of death, and no rolls (though please post your stats so appropriate rewards can be given).
    4. Your actions will directly affect the fight taking place on the Frontlines. If you mess up badly enough, their fight will get more difficult. Please do not consider this a challenge to screw over your fellow Player. If you get this right, you'll make their path toward clearing the floor much easier.
    5. What you do here will also have a direct effect on permanent site lore.
    6. Be good. While a certain level of argument is expected, you should not be ruining the experience for others, nor should you be acting in a way that would annoy Hugh. He will have you thrown out. Again, this is not a challenge. Do not cross Hugh (or Lessa).
    7. If you can't keep up with the thread, or you feel that your participation has run its course, that's okay! Your contributions will still be rewarded (in character, and out). We'll just write you out, and bring someone else in. Please note that you'll be removed automatically if you miss three rounds without warning.
    8. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions that you may have!
    9. Thank you for being my guinea pigs.

This round ends at 11:59 PM EDT on August 11th.

  20. Wushen.png.e062d5bf203067e6506d60a456bff7f2.pngThe floodgates lay open. Out poured the efforts of the Players who stood valiant on the Frontlines, a torrent of hopes, fears, dreams, and aspirations that flowed into the maw of Oblivion. Wushen stared beyond them.

What it wanted, they couldn't possibly give. It felt nothing but fleeting futility, attempts to divert the current course. Pleasure, pain, two sides of a coin with obscure faces, both currency that the beast simply could not differentiate. Would not.

    Had no desire to.

They fell upon him as gnats swarming fruit, drawn in by the overripe and pungent stench of garbage that was warmth and light. What gave them hope was little more than the collateral damage caused by its all-consuming hunger.

A woman-creature with short dark strands upon its head, and grey-skin that seemed nothing more than loose fur-scales around its form, carved a trail of annoyance in her wake as it charged forward. Wushen's gaze refused to follow her, its contempt at her existence obvious as it looked to more pressing things. She flitted back toward her allies, spouting off garbled nonsense in some misbegotten tongue. They all spoke up, the defiance that sprouted within them creating a new color. It was something enough to break the drab monotony of his microcosm. That drew its ire.

Subsequently, the woman fell victim to a dismissive flick of his tail, which swatted her away like an unwanted parasite. There were others, each of them less worthy than the last to gaze upon Nihility. It would exile them all from the real. It would give them true peace.

  21. Wushen.png.e062d5bf203067e6506d60a456bff7f2.pngIts ruminations were disrupted.

The beast could feel them on all sides, but until that precise moment, it had considered them unnecessary to regard. Suddenly, the silence was filled with… noise.

Wushen reared its head and its lambent, pupil-less gaze strained in desperation to isolate the source of all of the sound. Myriad faceless vermin swarming beneath it offered distinguishable discord, but one Harpy's shrill cry irritated above the rest. Where until this point nothing had garnered attention, now Wushen glowered directly down at Nari. Power coalesced around the Avatar of Annihilation, reds, blues, whites, greens- and converged at a focal point, twisting together in a black so deep it swallowed them all.

The ball of malice went hurtling downward toward the eager tank, plummeting into the ground, the woman, and everything around for several meters. The impact came like several tons of metal colliding with cement at top speed.

Chunks of dirt and stone blasted apart like shrapnel toward the Players around the object of its attention- former object, perhaps- as it slowly turned its gaze away, seeking only to return to stagnation.

  22. Wushen.png.e062d5bf203067e6506d60a456bff7f2.pngThey came en masse. Yet another cadre of deluded adventurers, would-be heroes in search of their fairy tale ending. And an ending they would have, though perhaps not the one that fit with their ideal. This group was not so loud as one of the others, and not quite as troublesome as the last. Still, they were vexing in their own way, and they demanded attention.

Wushen passed a silent snort of indignation. The heaviest of sighs heralded a wave of frigid air, a creeping chill that crawled across the skin of those who stood in the presence of the All-Consuming. Its gaze flickered across them all as they railed, seeking to find purchase in his chitinous scales, desperately searching for weakness.

But naught came to naught. There was no weakness to be found, save for in their own hearts. The mythical monstrosity rose up to its full height before the brazen leader who dared to presume to understand the workings of its mind, and who peered into the subtleties of the nether. Because when one stares too deep into the Abyss, the Abyss inevitably stares back.

Freyd drew the beast's attention, if not it's animosity. It was not a kindred spirit of darkness that looked down at the man, but a primordial entity that took offense to a  pale imitation. Wushen lifted its head, opened its maw, and all the world became heavy. Gravity drew them down, heaviest at its nexus point around the tank, drawing him down toward the ground- through it- seeking to bury him.

Though Death would come for all of them, it would be quicker for some than for others.

    Wushen, Elemental Warlord HP: ????/???? | DMG: 200 | MITI: 15 75 | ACC: 4(+3) | EVA: 0 [Shatter 3 {1/3}]

    • BD 9-10, Apply Keen 3 to Wushen

    Beyond Care:

    • Each round at the start of the bosses turn before its post action, the highest hate from each group decays by -1. In the event of a draw then this ability targets the player that has any hatred generation skills/enhancements. If none is present it will be the last player to generate hatred outside of attacking.
    • In addition, every successful attack against the player with the highest hate reduces their hatred by -2

    Larger than Life:

    • DoT’s last half as long.

    Gridlock:

    • When reaching 50% of its total HP, further damage is ignored until it transitions to phase 2. Transitioning to phase 2 consumes its post action.

  24. Wushen.png

In the beginning, there was darkness. Nothingness. The void consumed all, and thus in paradoxical creation, it brought all together. From darkness sprang the light, and all things bathed in that radiance took form. Against that unwanted creation, Darkness Raged.

That ephemeral hatred gave rise to a blasphemy, a creature that mirrored the elements that sprang forth from the void, a vengeful mockery of the powers that gave life. The origin of life, and it's inevitable end. Wushen, the Warlord of the Elements.

Long since sealed, the manner in which his miasma was brought to heel has been lost to time, but one thing is certain: the seal has broken, and his return is upon you.

With some help from the Players, the way has opened.

That which was long forgotten has manifested. It's insatiable desire to Return All to Nothingness stands between you and freedom. \

As you enter the heart of darkness within all of that brilliant light, his gaze strikes you, but he does not see you. You are beneath contempt. Wushen sees ants to be stomped beneath his crushing claws, ashes to be smote upon crumbling mountains. His infinite vacant stare perceives only the inevitable, and he cannot comprehend anything but the end that he seeks.

    The End of All Things.

Coiled above you, around you, his head dips low as he watches boundless infinity stretch on forever, waiting. He is a black hole, drawing in color, soaking up all of the light. He is hungry only to deprive you. He thirsts only to dry up your hopes.

Around him, as you look more closely, orbs rotate in an orbit, almost like he is the center of his own galaxy. They burn low with strange hues, vaguely reminiscent of… something… familiar.

    But what?

Take up your swords, brave warriors, and fight for your lives.

Because Wushen will not hesitate to take them from you.
