"Heh. While you two lovebir-" she started, when the sound of rocks grinding against each other alerted her to instinctively duck. Her slip in concentration gave the golem the opening it needed to clarify the game's mortal dangers when its punch almost connected with the redheads body. Her sloppy maneuver enabled the creature to grab her wrists while she was still trying to regain her footing, allowing it to lift her up and letting her dangle.

"Alright you stupid hunk of dirt. It's one thing to try and hit me, I wanted to take your stuff after all. But embarassing me in front of my friends like this? You should've just dug your own grave, it would've been a faster and less painful way to go."

With the most intimidating grin she could muster her legs began to glow as she pulled them in before springing them open, piercing the golems torso with her feet. As the creature crumbled and the grip released, Hisa fell on the floor but quickly got up, proudly presenting the jewel to her party members. "I got it!".

'So they can be harmed by martial arts, perfect.' Hisa thought, releasing a sigh of relief. "Alright then, I'll go and look for a gem." she announced, venturing deeper into the cave, leaving Katoka in Vie's care, as her real life friend still seemed a little shocked by the events that just unfolded.

Sticking to the walls, Hisa slowly explored the cavern. Due to the lack of natural light, she relied more on her sense of touch than her sight to find the gem she was looking for. After a while, something that stuck out of the wall caught her attention. Grabbing and examinig it, she realized that this was another one of the quest items. This meant that one of the cave guardians was about to spawn. 

She didn't know where it would come from and the dim light made it hard to spot it against the stone backdrop. She barely noticed an unnatural looking formation before it tried to take a swing at her. Thanks to her quick reflexes, she managed to dodge the attack, causing the stone creature to smash its fist against the wall behind her, the sound of the impact echoing throughout the cave. Without being able to regain her footing in time, her retaliation attempt missed.

A little taken aback by her fellow martial artists punch not phasing the elemental creature, Hisa hesitated for a moment, looking for a weak spot to ensure that her kick would not only connect but actually have an effect.

Her real life friend had ensured the safety of her fellow redhead and damaged their foe, opening it up for a follow up attack to eliminate the danger.

Eventhough she was pretty sure that sand wouldn't help because the stone golem doesn't seem to have eyes, she wanted to try regardless. Years of videogames taught her that sometimes games ignore wether or not creatures had eyes when it came to clouding line of sight. 

Running in from an angle, her ankles began to glow before she jumped, getting ready for a kick. Unable to see her foe properly due to the darkness, she blindly threw the sand which bounced off of the sentient rock, hitting her right in the eyes. "Goddamnit!" she yelled while sailing past the elemental before hitting the dirt behind it, performing a less than gracefull landing.

After a short travel, they arrived at the grove, spotting a woman sitting on one of the trunks painting, 

"Hey!" Hisa shouted, waving, interrupting her two party members' chat. "Are you Hannah?" she yelled.
The npc shot up from her painting, taken aback by the sudden appearance of travelers. 
"Yes! Please come closer so we don't have to shout!", the artist responded.

Quickly making their way to the artisan, Hisa opened her inventory to pull the parcel they were given out before nudging her fellow martial artist, to get do the same. "We were told to give these to you."

"Yes, these must be the gold bands Lyle wanted to give to me. Perfect, thank you." the npcs said before taking the packages. "Unfortunately, I require another material to craft the rings he asked for." she explained before turning around, pointing to a mountainrange with a dark cave entrance. 

"There are some jewels located in that cave with which I can finish my work. I would get the myself but they are guarded by strange stone elementals and I am an artist, not a fighter. Please bring me two gems, one for each ring, and I'll make sure to make it worth your while."

"Death game or not, I don't plan on kicking the bucket. Besides, these rocks don't stand a chance against two martial artists and a blonde with a butter knife!" she laughed before looking at her real life friend  "But you're right Katoka. According to the item description we should be able to drink it whenever we want and the buff will last until we actually get hit. I'm gonna drink it now, otherwise I might forget." Hisa said before opening her inventory, scrolling through the potions until she found it. After pressing her finger against the item's name, it materialized in her hand. 

She uncorked the flask and raised it "Cheers!" before drinking it. After wiping her mouth a new icon appeared below her health bar, indicating that the buff has activated. The empty container vanished shortly after.

"Alright then" she started while beginning to add all the uneaten, wrapped sandwiches into her inventory "once I stuffed all of this into my inventory I'd be ready to head out, what about you two?".

"Alright then, I'll go in and talk to the merchant, hopefully he can actually pay us". With a chuckle, Hisa entered the tavern, After a brief look around she spotted the merchant that sent them on this quest and approached him. 

"Hello sir, I'd like to report that we have taken care of your problem, your trade routes are going to be safe from now on."
"That's great news! Thank you very much little girl."

She looked at him for a brief second, hiding her anger, and, when a waitress walked by with a jug of water, faked tripping. Mid fall, she grabbed the plate the pitcher was on, sending it and its contents flying towards the quest npc, soaking him in water. 

"Oh no! I'm terribly sorry! I'm so clumsy at times." she bowed while hiding a smile.
 
"Don't worry about it" wiping the water off of his face "You've done me a great service today. Concerning your reward, have this." 
The merchant reached into his pockets and handed Hisa some money and shiny materials.

"Thank you very much!" the redhead replied "Have a nice day!" before turning around and leaving to meet Ruler outside to hand her her share. 

"Hey Ruler, I got our rewards!"

"Sounds like a bunch of excus..." Hisa began before getting flicked interrupted her. She rubbed the spot between her eyes for a couple of seconds while her real life friend finished her sentence. Trying her best to hide a sigh as she witnessed Katoka flirting.

Before she could come up with a witty comment, the food arrived. In awe she stared at the mountain that was just delivered to her table. Among the plates were the sandwiches, way more than she expected, all but one wrapped up in paper. "T-Thank you very much" was all she managed to utter before she couldn't hold back anymore and began to dig in like her party members.

Despite being virtual, the food tasted real, she ate the first sandwich in record time but the flavors left her wanting more. Taking a second to breathe, she looked at Katoka "Yeah, but it's not only the little things you seem to appreciate", before smirking and nudging Katoka, signaling towards Vie when her fellow redhead wasn't looking. 

As she returned to her food, the found herself unable to choose and simply unwrapped the closest sandwich to her, before taking a sip of coffee.

"First of all, thank you for the last quest Vie. I'm really excited for the upcoming one! Traveling with you guys is tons of fun!". The redhead turned to the waitress "I'll just have a coffee and...". Hisa suddenly stopped in the middle of the sentence. There was an important decision to be made. It's impossible to start an adventure on an empty stomach but she had to choose the kind of sandwich she would eat wisely. Should she go for a fish one, a ham one, a cheese one or a chicken one. 

Realizing that about half a minute had gone by, both of her party members and the waitress looking at her distressed face, she snapped back with " give me a chicken sandwich now and one of every kind of sandwich you have to go."

Turning her head she adressed her guildmates "Don't judge me, I just don't want us to run out of food in the middle of the quest. Also, Katoka, first you want to be our senpai and then you turn around and announce that you want us to take the blows, very interesting definition of" raising her hands to make air-quotes "being kind to your kouhais." returning her real life friend's smug smile in kind. 

"I'm really glad you managed to get in and the auto-translate they put in place really works great. I would've never expected you to be from america." The redhead remarked. 

Confidence rushed through her body as this was the first boss she helped fight, her excitement for the upcoming challenges was made visible by an ear to ear smile. She had proven to herself that she was no longer deadweight but could hold herself in a fight, even a tough one. The important thing to focus from now on was to control her temper. While bursts offered great satisfaction, the drawbacks could be very deadly in this game.

"Same! Besides RTS and 4Xs, MMOs are my favorite games, that's why I got interested in this game." Never one to miss out on a joke, she added "I gotta say, the immersion is great, I could've done without the dying part tho."

"Right back at ya." she replied. "Katoka told me about your abilites but seeing them first hand, it really is something else. Now, it's time to head back I think." She patted the grass and dirt off of herself, helped her kneeling friend up and started to walk back to the city gates. 

"That was a tough fight, I was almost out of energy, but I had a single point left in the end." she chuckled "I really have a hard time holding myself back, I'm just so used to playing very bursty characters in other games. Also my personality probably doesn't help.
Also I sometimes talk too much. Sooooo, why don't you tell me a bit about yourself now that we have some time before we get back to the city and hand in the quest."

Hisa paid attention to evey reply, trying to figure out any more information to figure out how to push Katoka in the right direction.

"Rule number two, double tap!" Hisa announced before she vaulted off of Ruler's shoulder into a front flip that ended in an axe kick to finish the Venom Snapper off. 

"Hell yeah!" she exclaimed as the creature exploded into hundreds of tiny shining shards. "Don't worry," the redhead smugly remarked "I have more than enough sand left for the rest of you." With an evil grin she announced "Ruler, duck!" before she threw the sand in an arc, following it up with a  spinning kick that barely went over her teammembers crown as her form lowered, but hit all the remaining ads in the face. The force knocked them over before they began to glow, exploding into tiny shards seconds later.

'Pretty cool', 'Great to combo with', two more boxes ticked. She could see why Katoka was pursuing this female, Hisa just wished that her real-life friend could come out of her shell a little more sometimes. She might have to push the two together, but she'd need more time to come up with a believable 'coincidental meeting'.

"I like your style. Blasting the sand into the enemies instead of covering your eyes, impressive move! Ready for the next one?" she chuckled before reaching into her bag, grabbing more sand. This was supposed to be serious but Hisa just had too much fun comboing with her friend. 

But that blade of hers, the redhead had to be careful not to accidentally cut herself during one of her moves. And she definitely didn't want to be in the way of one of Ruler's sword arts, as she just witnessed how devastating they could be.

"Alright, here I come!" she announced before sprinting forwards again. She ran up to Ruler's right side, as she wielded the blade with her left hand. "Swing me around!" she yelled before grabbing onto the blonde's right hand after the threw the sand at the pack, using the momentum to be swung in an ark in front of her to deliver a crushing kick to the beast temple with her glowing feet wraps. 

Having completed the half-circle, arriving at her party members left side, and successfully indenting the Venom Snapper's skull, she hid behind the knight again, reading another blast of sand.

After watching Ruler having started the encounter, Hisa yelled "Cover your eyes for and spread your legs!" before she sprinted towards the enemies. As she got close to the blonde, she gave herself one last push before beginning to slide between rulers feet.

As her glowing feet-wraps emerged from underneath her party members skirt, Hisa got tucked them in, as to not accidentally just slide into the beast. Her vision still covered by the courtain that was rulers armor, she got ready to hit whatever was in front of her when she emerged with sand. 

As her face exited the cloth, she found herself in front of the boss and she immediately threw the coarse material into the air and the venomous creatures eyes before turning onto her belly and grabbing Rulers knees. "I didn't look!" Using the blonde's legs as leverage, she donkey-kicked the alpha wolf in the face "I swear!" before the recoil of the impact sent her sliding right back underneath ruler and out the other side of her skirt.

'Stoic', well, Katoka can surely break though that facade, so it might still be a good fit for her. Nevertheless, not getting any physical reaction from Ruler frustrated Hisa a little bit. Before she could ask any further questions, the blonde announced that she was about to start the fight. 

This caused Hisa to stop focusing on being a wingman and instead become a fighter. With her eyes on target, she waited for the signal. Slightly hopping from one leg to the other to warm her body up, she got ready. 'This is it, the first fight that might actually be dangerous from what Ruler described' she thought. In preparation she drank the vial as she was instructed by her teammate before she reached into her bag to fill both her hands with sand. 

Ready to throw the coarse material, she got into her battle stance and nodded towards Ruler. "Go ahead, I'm ready, let's do this."

'Helpful', and most importantly 'Hasn't called me small'. Two more boxes checked and out the door they went. "So, uh, how did you get started with like, all of this? Did you do like swordfighting or something like that before you were trapped in here?" she asked her party member, seeing that she was wearing full plate and a sword. 

"I kinda just took what I knew how to do in the real world and ran with it. I wonder if other people do the same though. Katoka's choice of using a katana also didn't surprise me, she was always a nerd, but a cute one I'll give her that." Hisa said, paying attention to Ruler's reaction.

During their walk to the city gates, she eyed her up. Blonde hair, same as Katoka, should be her type. Tall, also fits. Hisa had the opportunity to thoroughly investigate and she wasn't going to let it pass her by.

On her mental checklist, she ticked the first box 'chivalrous'. A good start, Katoka would enjoy being treated like a princess. Back to the task at hand though, she approached the man who looked down on his luck. 
"Hello sir." she said to get his attention. 
"Hello little girl." the merchant replied.
'Oh my god why does every single one of these goddamn npcs call me short.' her thoughts started to race.
"I assume you have read my request."
'I swear to god on day I will show them little.' it continued, no longer paying attention to the npc in front of her.
"Recently, all of my supply carts have been ambushed by a ferocious group of wolves, led by a mutated venonous creature."
'Eventuall they will no longer be essential, and I will have my revenge!'
"Here is the location, I would be really glad if you could help my poor soul out. I don't have much anymore but I will pay you regardless should you accept."
'It will be so sweet. I will savor every moment of their fear when they see what happens if they anger me!' "YES!" she shouted, concluding her own trail of thought.

The 'Quest accepted' prompt snapped her back to reality. "Wait, what?" she uttered while the merchant handed her a green vial. 
She turned to Ruler, visibly confused, in the hopes that she paid attention to what the merchant wanted.

Hisa was looking at different jobs on the questboard when a whisper interrupted her. Ruler wanted to do a quest together and included a location where she wanted to meet up. 'On my way' she responded before she headed to the second floor. 

They had met before, but it was in a bigger group during a sandstorm. Hisa wondered what Ruler would be like in one on one conversation, but she figured that she might be nice since Katoka always swooned over her in their whispers. That being said, her real life friend always had a tendency to try to flirt with questionable people so Hisa needed to be cautious. 

While making her way to the location that was sent to her, she came to the conclusion that there were two things she needed to find out. Firstly, how strong was Ruler in combat, secondly, if she was a good partner for Katoka. 

After a short walk, she saw the blonde in the distance."Hey!", she shouted while waving in her direction.

"A tie with Katoka and an IOU from Vie? Sign me up!" Hisa exclaimed rushing towards the final boar. A few steps in, her body failed to comply once again. 'Come on, come on, come on! Don't fail me now, stupid virtual body!' circled through her head. Her energy bar still showing zero as she approached the charging boar as fast as she could. 

Seconds before they would meet head on, finally, 1 Energy regenerated. "Aaaand seven!" she shouted as she leapt forward, tucking her legs in until she was above the creature's body, when she exploded them downwards, ramming the pup into the ground. 

That hit killed the mob, but brought her back to 0 energy mid aid. Her vision blurred and her ears started ringing, causing her to not exactly stick the landing afterwards. She tumbled down the tiny decline until the landed flat on her back. "Alright," she started before she was interrupted by having to inhale heavily due to exhaustion "I didn't expect the ground to be this slippery." she chuckled. 

'I should really use my energy more wisely or I'm gonna end up passing out during a quest some day.' she figured,  before standing back up. 

"I think we're done and as fun as it is, killing more boar pups won't help us in the long run. We should head back to town." she announced.

"How kind of you to leave one for me." the readhead remarked smugly after her party member slaughtered three out of the four beasts that surrounded them. Filling both of her hands with sand, she calmly walked towards the remaining pup near her. "Well well well, charging us didn't do you any good now, did it?" before slamming the coarse material directly into the creatures eyes. As the boar squealed, she seized the opportunity, grabbing onto its neck fur and jumping on it's back. "Forward, noble steed!" she shouted after having mounted the animal, kicking it in it's sides in an effort to get it to run. 

The game however registered these kicks as attacks. A second later, the mob began to glow and explode, leading Hisa to fall on her behind. "This game just hates fun." she grumbled. After standing up and patting the dirt and grass off of her clothes, Hisa, with a wide grin on her face, announced "That's six for me by the way.".

'This isn't good' Hisa thought as she looked around, both of her team members encircled by boar pups. Breathing heavily as she was bottomed out on energy, she figured that the best strategy was to try and help Katoka as she was surrounded by more enemies than Vie.

She sprinted towards the blonde, as quickly as her body would allow her to, given the strain she put on it beforehand. To her disappointment she was not nearly as fast as she had hoped. "Goddamnit" she uttered, knowing that her power came from speed and agility, not raw strength. Because of that, realizing that she could not even bring herself to a full sprint was a bad omen. 

Nevertheless, Hisa hoped that her sand would be able to even the odds. During her advance, that slowed down to a fast jog at this point, she grabbed another hand full of the blinding material. 

"Over here, you four legged freak!" she yelled, throwing the orange mist. Her lack of speed was demonstrated by the beast easily sidestepping the material, causing her subsequent kick to miss, but enabling her to roll between the beasts and rise to her feet next to the katana wielder. 

"Just so we are clear Katsu, you never saw me missing." she announced while catching her breath. "Surrounded by enemies because we're both idiots, it really is just like old times." she chuckled, pressing her back tightly against her real-life friend's, to ensure that no fiend would be able to attack them from a blind spot.

"Bet!" Hisa replied to Vie's challenge. Looting the small crystal left behind by the boar pup she just killed, she managed to acquire the first of the three tusks she needed. As soon as she placed it into her inventory she stood up again and took a look around to see if other mobs were nearby. As she scanned the landscape, she caught the other readhead slaughtering a whole group while flashing a smile. "Oh so that's how you wanna do this, alright." she uttered, her competitiveness fired up even more,  before looking at Katoka, shouting "Come down here and join the fun!".

She spotted a new group of four pups, rushing towards Vie. Without hesitation she ran towards her, filling both of her hands with sand before yelling "Duck!". As her party member's form lowered, she vaulted over her back, throwing sand in an arch as to hit every incoming enemy. With all of them blinded, they halted their charge, trying to shake the coarse material out off their eyes.

Hisa began her rampage. Using her momentum, she delivered a split kick to the first two. Landing on her hands, she pushed herself to the right, dropkicking the third beast. Using it's head like a springboard she vaulted again, flipping to axekick the remaining one. 

With the mobs exploding, she took a second to confidently grin at Vie "That's five for me so far" in the hopes of her not seeing through Hisa's bluff, this sequence of attacks took everything she had.

To her surprise, two of the shards left behind by her victims contained the remaining tusks she needed. She placed them into her inventory and the quest progress updated to 'Return to Lyle Tealeaf'. 

There was no reason to stop yet though, as eventhough Katoka already finished the quest, Vie still needed some tusks. Besides, there was more fun to be had fighting these creatures.

After they left the city gates, Hisa visibly flinched for a second "Sorry about that, I just had a flashback of getting sandblasted. There's a quest on floor five that's just, ugh. Didn't mean to startle you guys." Looking down in shame for a second before she continued walking, picking up the pace significantly. She couldn't wait fo finally use the skills and gear she gained with the help of her new friends.

After 30 minutes of walking towards the area Katoka indicated, they arrived. The blonde was right, the boar pups were everywhere. "Alright" she said, cracking her knuckles "time to blow off some steam.". This game had first trapped her inside of this virtual prison and then freightened her to the point where she felt helpless. This was her chance to get at least some form of revenge. She would prove to herself that she would no longer be scared, as long as she had her friends.

"Please let me take the first one, I need this." she announced while reaching into her bag, grabbing a handfull of sand. She waited about 5 seconds for the others to voice their opinions before she rushed towards the closest pup.

"Over here!" she shouted, to get the attention of the small beast. As she saw it running towards her, Hisa waited until it got close, then threw the sand into it's eyes which allowed her to barely dodge the boars wild charge. This was the opening she needed. With a vengeful glare, she twisted her torso and waist, delivering a swift yet crushing kick to the beasts temple. Hitting it with the part of Resonance where 'Freedom' was inscribed. "Go to hell!" she yelled as the beast was violently kocked to the side before it exploded into hundreds of glowing shards.

She returned Katoka's hug, then took a step back "Good to see you again! Oh, by the way, check my new gear out!". She started posing in front of her friend ensuring that she got a good view of every piece. "I got it from our guild! You really have a knack for finding the nicest people around." After taking another look at her equipment, Hisa sighed "I really need to find a way to repay them. I'm probably going to learn the cooking skill and try and fill the guild vault with buff food. Hopefully I can show some gratitude that way, I hate being deadweight."

Before she could continue, the two of them were interrupted by a fellow guild mate arriving. Hisa's heart jumped as she saw another redhead, roughly her height. Finally someone like her, at least visually. "Hi! Yes I'm Hisa. I hope the blacksmith wasn't too annoying, he really talks too much. Honestly, I kinda ignored him while he rambled and then the quest accepted thingy popped up, caught me by surprise." she giggled.

The sandstrom made it almost impossible to get even a couple of hours of sleep. The coarse material managed to find it's way into every sleeping bag and piece of clothing. Hisa started wondering what could possibly entice someone to venture out here. "I hope the end reward is good, it'll take ages for me to clean the sand out of everything." she grumbled as she gave up on trying to sleep any longer. 

While stretching, she looked up. Unsurprisingly, the storm was still happily launching everything it could pick up over them. In an effort to find the possible location of the lost goods, now that the sunlight would allow them to find it, she poked her head over the ridge. The moment her eyes went over, she saw a stone incoming and ducked. "Oh my god, don't tell me." Hisa changed her position a bit and slowly lifted her head up once more, causing another projectile to almost hit her.  "The sanstorm is playing whack-a-mole with me, goddamnit!" she yelled out loud. Involuntarily waking the others up. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry" she apologized, bowing repeatedly. 

Hisa returned to Lyle Tealeaf, the blacksmith she visited during an earlier quest. This time however, it was not about delivering a package. Instead, she wanted to look at equipment and weaponry she could use as decoration, since she thought about visiting the cash shop and spend some money to get a house.

The npc greeted her as she stepped through the door "Welcome back Hisa. Listen, I am short on some materials, like Boar Pup Tusks."  "Uh huh." she uttered, visibly distracted by her imagination running wild, thinking about furniture ."I was wondering if you could help me collect some." "Uh huh", Hisa replied, wondering if crossed swords would look nice or cheesy should she put them on the walls. "Great, please bring me 3 of them, I'll wait here with your payment once I recieved the materials." 

"Uh huh." 'Quest accepted' "Wait, what?" The system messaged caused her to snap out of her trying to visualize her future home. Seconds later, the quest objective appeared on screen 'Kill Boar Pups until you've gathered three Boar Pup Tusks'. "Oh, great, fetch quest, yay." she sighed. "But hey, at least I get to relieve some stress, finally something to fight!" she exclaimed before turning around to leave the shop.

Outside, she opened up a private chat with Katoka "Hey, how's it going? I've just accepted a fetch quest and I wondered if you'd like to join me and hunt some boars, just like in the other mmorgs we played together."

Just for good measure, since the last guild members she met were really nice, she put out an open invitation as well: "Hey, once again, I'm on a quest. If anyone wants to join Katoka and me, feel free to meet us at the city gates in the town of beginnings."
