Ascalon withdrew his weapon from the woman's back. She collapsed backward, falling to the ground - frozen. His gaze shifted, away from Abellio and Lysette and down to the woman. Did he paralyze her or something? The man squatted down, resting his weapon against his shoulder. "I'm not gonna kill her, if that's what you're worried about. We just need to have a chat," Ascalon said, keeping his eyes trained on the woman. "About what?" Abellio's voice surprised him. It was a more hostile than he intended. Could he chalk it up to the adrenaline? "Don't worry about it," came Ascalon's -

Okay. Okay Okay Okay. Warren was here, thank fuck. Abellio didn’t know exactly what that meant, but the way the man was talking, he couldn’t help but respect the confidence. Abellio rushed back into the chaos, watching as the Shamblers swarmed his friend. His knee jerk reaction was to help. He stopped, turning on his heels and reaching for a sword he didn’t actually have. Oh. Right. And it didn’t matter anyway. Abellio saw that first explosion. The wave of fire that washed over the Shamblers, killing several in a single hit. Abellio blinked. When had Warren learned to do th -
"GERONIMO!" Abellio's voice rang out over the beach as he vaulted over the side of the airship railing and landed onto the sands with a thud. He had been a bit worried. Oscar trusted him with the crown jewel of this entire party. Abellio was a legendary fuck-up so he was concerned that he might not be able to place the giant crustacean just so. But his worries had been unfounded and despite never piloting an airship or operating a winch, he pulled it off. So his presence on deck was unneeded. Time to get down. As he small cloud of sand settled on his sandaled feet, he noticed a dude

Leeching Nightmare Such a nice moment. Abellio had been over the moon. His heart had been full to bursting, threatening to thunder out of his chest. A moment where two souls aligned, burning hot and on a collision course with one another. He still wasn’t sure. But he couldn’t get in his own way. Not with her. He would allow himself one indulgence. Force himself not to listen to the thoughts buzzing through his own head. Abellio would crash back down to earth the moment that dagger was thrown. All that heat evaporated. All the affection sapped away. Abellio, for his entire

Abellio's focus had quickly devolved from logistics to simply doing whatever he could to keep the Shamblers at bay. Which would have been far easier if he had a weapon. He'd taken to just beating down the closest thing to him, but for every Shambler he ran the ones with, another two took its place. And it was a numbers game. And in sheer volume of bodies and levels, they had Abellio beat. It was as if the music had attracted them all here. And it had. The denizens of the floor heard STY/L's music, seemingly to every corner. Every corner. Every denizen. Even those who should be l -
"I FOUND A HAMMER!" Abellio held his prize up over his head as he was hunched over a toolbox. The airship had not made it through the Teleport Platform completely unscathed. The winches that were necessary for pulling the crab out of the pot were not in working order. So Abellio had been tinkering with them since they'd moved the ship here. "You don't need a hammer," Lysette said as she adjusted her grip on a bucket of nuts and bolts. "Maybe if I hit it just right..." Abellio twisted his wrist, flourishing the hammer over his head. It slipped from his grip and smacked him right

"You okay?" Lydia seemed lost in thought. So much so that she completely whiffed her attack on the helpless boss. There was a moment of panic that maybe she was realizing what Abellio thought about whatever this was between them. She met his gaze and gave him a sheepish smile that slowly morphed into a smirk. "Yeah! Just uh... thinking about what we're gonna do when this boss is dead," she replied. Abellio blinked. Realization slowly set in and the blood rushed to his cheeks. In an effort to distract himself, Abellio plunged his blade back into Kumatetsu. He barely registered -

Lydia was a hard person to keep up with. And that was saying something considering the fact that Abellio took pride in his own ability to zoom around at breakneck speeds. But even though she was kind of stealing his thunder, he couldn't help but smile. She'd only just started to dip her toes into actually playing the game. Maybe it was her trained grace as a dancer. It was probably her trained grace as a dancer. But even when she was crashing down like a bolt of lightning there was a sort of brutal elegance in the way she moved. It was distracting. Head-turning. Abellio realized as -

Chaos. There was really only one way to describe it. Moments before, STY/L was performing solely for the Raid Team off in the distance. Now they had a veritable mosh pit right in front of them. Abellio had no idea where they came from, but it certainly made his security-slash-pyrotechnical-slash-hype man work that much more demanding. He zoomed around, a red and white blur across the sands. It was about now that he cursed himself for not bringing a weapon. It was so incredibly difficult to deal with the Shamblers efficiently when he was just running hands. So he did the only logical thing -

Was that a meltdown? Or had Abellio gone past the limits of Lydia's patience? It seemed like the latter and bless her, she had the patience of a saint. But she had him at her first question. The details didn't really matter. Abellio was just in his own head. He felt that she was so far above him. And he could continue to feel that way. But she was also so sincere. So direct. And if she wanted to slum it with him - if he made her happy - who was he to deny her? His sour expression returned to neutral, then that smile slowly spread across his face again. He met her gaze, the simple fondness -

She didn’t give him time to pull back. And that was probably the point. She placed herself right up in his space, her presence forcing him to give her all of his attention. Not an easy task. When she posed her question - spoke her challenge - anything Abellio would have said died in his throat. He would have picked his jaw up from the floor, were he not terrified of getting to close to her as he bent over. “Lydia, I -” “I thought I was pretty clear,” Lydia said quickly. “Really gonna keep me waiting?” Abellio’s mouth closed, his jaw clenched. She had to be fucking with him. Ther -

“Hey,” Abellio replied. The night had been long. And it had been full of thoughts that he would have much preferred not to have. They still drummed heavy in his mind, repetitions of inadequacy disguised as cold logic. As immutable fact. But it was hard to give it all any credibility when she was so painfully close. When she looked up at him like that, smiled so softly at him. All at once, those storm clouds parted. Light shone through. He felt more energized, like he hadn’t just gone without sleep for the entire night. He helped Lydia to her feet. His hand lingered at the small of he -

The crazy thing was that despite it all, Abellio still wanted to see her. They had a whole quest chain to do right? That was a good enough reason to remain in her orbit, much as he wanted to fling himself from it. The thoughts were too deep. The feelings too. He couldn’t understand why she always came when he asked. What could she possibly see in him? The message was typed and sent before he even realized what he was doing. Panic settled in. He wanted to call it back, frantically scrambling through his messages looking for a recall option. Her reply came before he’d even really started -
Simply confounding. Abellio wasn’t the type to get bogged down by details. The hows and whys were better left to people with a proven pedigree of measured, well-thought plans. Like Warren. Or Oscar. He more or less knew his limits. Abellio was at his best when you simply pointed him in a direction and told him that thing. He didn’t stay inside of his own head. He was out in the world, inflicting everyone with his boundless energy. So lying awake that night, staring up at the ceiling with a disquieted mind was uncomfortable in many ways. He took stock of the facts. Over and over.

"Nah, it isn't really that deep for me," Abellio said. He put his sword away, signalling that his past discomfort was all but gone. All he'd wanted was a little extra information. Some context. Not to be jump-scared by a PKer when he thought he was just out for a casual stroll. His gaze shifted over to Mari, giving her a bright smile. "You know Oscar, he's pretty stingy with the details. I was just a little surprised, is all. If he's out here balling out with you, I know he's got a reason for it. It would have just been nice to know that reason before I rocked up. Abellio didn't even notice. Not the feint intended to frighten or the almost-attack that Lydia had made. It was rather difficult to notice such things with a big fuck-off firebird bearing down on them. And it seemed that the least focused of the bunch was the most locked in for this fight. He did, of course, have something to prove. Getting better and honing his skills were paramount. And he would seize upon every opportunity to do just that. To prove that he had been doing just that. And so the three behind him had their exchange. As they did, Abellio was driving his sword into the newly-rise

Abellio remained on a similar wavelength as Lydia. The two owed the man a lot. It really was just a matter of when and where. But that didn't mean they weren't entitled to the why. Abellio fucked with loyalty, but he never did it blindly. He followed up on Lydia's attack, his blade catching the Phoenix upon the left wing. In the same motion, he caught Lydia's down-turned spear, casually pulling her back down to earth as he followed through with his strike. Abellio took a few steps back and, as he flipped his sword over the back of his hand, turned on his heels to address Oscar and Mari in the

It was generally worth Abellio's while to come when Oscar called. Even if it hadn't been, Abellio would have showed up anyway. Simple tit for tat. He felt more confident nowadays. Competent. And he was a little honored that Oscar would go out of his way to call him to a Field Boss of all things. It made him feel like all the work he'd been putting in was finally bearing fruit. That being said, couldn't it have happened somewhere that wasn't so hot? Abellio wasn't overly bothered by it, but desert to active volcano was crazy work. He arrived at the designated spot in short order, before Lydia h

Always. Was that excitement or a promise? Probably the former? Maybe the latter? What did always even mean? Didn't matter. It just sounded so sweet when he said it. Lydia would need to be forgiven for clinging to his arm the entire way to the cave. It was such a simple thing, but it was so foreign to her. Lydia knew the physical. Those brief moments of rebellion when her hangers-on were caught up in the lights and the bass of those concert after parties. The sins committed in a shadowy VIP section with some random guy who happened to catch her eye at that moment. Rebellion that -

She wasn't going to cry. Even though Abellio's words felt like a warm, comforting blanket draped heavily over her shoulders - oddly weighted yet so very light. She wouldn't cry. Lydia's eyes stung and her tears threatened to fall, but she wouldn't let them. She'd cry later. Right now, she just wanted to be in the moment. To enjoy her personal sun for just a bit longer before her own storm clouds obfuscated them. She. Would. Not. Cry. Instead, she twisted in her seat and scooted as close to Abellio as she possibly could. She felt him try to release her hand. She didn't let him, her fi -

Lydia took another steadying breath. "Okay, so," she began. And she gave him the entire story. About her job in the real world and about how she was never given a real choice about it all. She told him about the piercings and the tattoos done at her manager's behest. With her parents' blessing. She spared no detail about how much it hurt or the sharp "corrections" her mother gave her for having the audacity to cry. How dare she be emotional over her skin being permanently marked? Good girls didn't cry, even when the needles bit into her skin. "But I'm here now. And I don't have to lo -

Abellio was quick to answer Lydia's call. He leaned against the fountain, clear view of the Teleport Plaza. Each time it flashed to signal an incoming Player, his eyes lit up. Only to find himself disappointed that it was someone else entirely. And so it was for a few minutes, getting his hopes up and constantly deflating when the new arrival wasn't her. Each second that ticked by made his heart beat faster, redoubled his excitement. He was practically sparking with energy by the time she arrived. At least, he thought it was her. She looked different. Same general style, far less ink and -
Abellio and Lydia returned with a cooler laden with fish right as Oscar had finished filling his cookpot with crab legs. "OH HELL YES!" Oscar rushed forward, grabbing the cooler and setting to work. Quick as a flash, they'd been descaled, deboned, and filleted. It was almost scary to watch Oscar work. The dude knew his way around a kitchen knife. They were on the grill and it didn't take long for their beachside barbecue to be plated up and served on the table. Abellio and Lydia took their seats just before Oscar and Warren did. It looked almost too good to touch. There was an ethere
