[OP-F1] An Adventure Begins . : COMPLETE : .

Nathan nodded at Jonathan's decision to stay and fight. Hopefully everything would go as smoothly as the first time.  Nathan looked across the grasslands, looking for their next target. He spotted a sizable boar and walked toward it. At the invitation to attack first Nathan nodded and drew his rapier out and broke out at a sprint towards the boar. Hopefully a quick strike would be enough to finish the beast off. Nathan charged and thrust forward his rapier at the beast.

The boar, who was simply munching on grass when it was attacked, turned at the last second and Nathan's thrust whizzed through the empty space where the boar used to be. Not off to a great start, hopefully Jonathan could follow through better. Nathan pivoted on his foot and jumped out of the way. "Switch!" There wasn't much else he could focus on or say in the middle of battle. Just focusing on landing the next hit was proving challenging enough.

As Brax continued his mat gathering out in the field, he could not help but turn his eyes on the battles that seem to rage around him.  Off in the distance, he could see another two boys, probably more than a decade younger than he, engaging a well-sized boar, though Brax could tell by the lean muscle mass, was probably no older than a few years, give or take.  Certainly it's reflexes were underdeveloped, as it attempted to strike the dark haired boy as he cried out for his companion to strike, "Switch!", missing him as he retreated.  'Excellent footwork, if a little rudimentary,' Brax mused, tearing his eyes away from the unsuccessful loot gathering task at hand.  Pulling closer to the battle, he none the less kept himself far enough away to remain hidden, not wanting to disturb their concentration from the fracus.

Jonathan watched as Nathan scanned out another boar. Nathan had begun to attack the boar gliding right past it. Jonathan smiled. Now Nathan knew how he felt. Jonathan readied his blade and charged forward dashing at the enemy. He dashed at the enemy in  a forward thrust  ready to stab the enemy right in the side. Jonathan nearly hit the enemy probably missing by and inch. He rolled to the side ready for Nathan to attack. Great. This was how this was going to go. His silver hair was messed up from running and the wind. Jonathan held his blade tightly ready to embrace for the attack of the boar.

The boar wasn't all that happy that its dinner had been disrupted. First some random human came attacking him while he wasn't looking and now some other was following up. Who were these pesky little humans thinking they could just go barging into someone's business? Whoever they were, they were definitely not the most skilled fighters he'd encountered before. He'd teach them for their impudence. The boar narrowly dodged the sword slash of the second boy and backed off a bit, giving itself some space for its charge.

The boar ran forward, aiming its sharp tusks at the figure who had just swung out at him. The space wasn't enough to quite get in a good burst of speed for the charge, it would suffice though. The boar, upon reaching the boy, swung out with its tusks but had the trajectory of its charge wrong so it ended up running past the boy. The tusks came within centimetres of the boy's clothing but wasn't close enough to actually harm. The boar followed through with its momentum, running well past the boy and stopping somewhere between the two party members.

Nathan watched as Jonathan missed his attack as well and panicked a little as the boar came charging at his party member. The boar ended up missing Jonathan, but only just barely. When it came to a stop between them Jonathan ran forward and thrust his rapier at its fat side. There wasn't any way he could miss such a target... Of course, he had missed a target that hadn't known he was attacking just recently.

Nathan's attack was on a good course though and his rapier slipped through the rib cage of the still boar. He heard the boar squeal in pain and watched as its health bar inched down barely. This was going to take a while at this rate. With the deftness that his rapier allowed Jonathan slipped the blade out of the boar and jumped back, leaving the boar wide open for a follow up attack by Jonathan. "Your turn!" Again, barely able to say anything in the heat of battle. Of course, what else was there to say?

Jonathan watched as the boar came charging in after him. He had just managed to move out of the way. He held his blade as Nathan moved in for a hit. Nathan met his mark and moved out of the way opening a opportunity to strike the boar. He charged forward and slanted his blade in an downward motion hoping to hit. Jonathan's blade struck the side of the boar opening a red gash of pixels in its side. Jonathan moved to get away from the boar. His eyes a dark green which seemed to be darkening. The light in the sky was most definitely fading. And once it was dark his eyes seemed black. As Jonathan turned he noticed a figure standing in the afar watching. "Embrace yourself!!"

'Underdeveloped, my ass.  It would appear that the animal's hide is more resilient than I thought.'  Judging by the anger his saw in the beast's darkened eyes from being struck, Brax knew the boar's next attack would probably kill either one of the new adventurers.  Hearing the cry from the man who had just garnered the beast's ire, "Embrace yourself!", Brax ran into the fray, his purpose clear, if not his motivation.  Blowing by both boys, he placed himself in front of the raging animal's attack just as it poured it's considerable anger out onto the battlefield, striking the hard metal of his simple breastplate with critical force.  Brax stood his ground despite the hard hit, willing his body to endure the blow.  Cocking his axe to the side, he allowed his Sword Art to prepare itself, glowing brightly on the head of his axe.  Allowing himself a small, satisfied baring of his teeth, he brought the axe around in front of him, striking the boar and pushing it back.  Enraged, the animal attempted to retaliate, only to be struck again by the secondary shockwave of his Whirlwind.  The wave cut through the beast, causing it to shimmer a moment before exploding into so many pixels.  Brax dropped to one knee, visibly tired from the exertion, before turning around to address his fellow combatants gazes, both surprised, one full of fire, the other cold as ice.  "It would do you well to remember, gentlemen, not to bite off more than you can chew.  To be honest, had I not been here, the death counter of this game might have gone up by two.  Hmm.  I'm Brax.  And you are?"

Thinking back on it, the sound could equate to a train. There was a large movement as a body came barreling past him and placed itself between the boar and Jonatha. It was then that he noticed the boar was charging up a rather strong attack and he winced slightly as the stranger took the blow straight to his chestplate. That was bound to hurt, but the man barely flinched. He just proceeded to do a rather strong and quick attack. He watched as the boar got decimated by two successive blows from the heavy axe and winced again. That must have hurt a lot. After the boar dissolved into pixels and the man turned and introduced himself Nathan fought the urge to try and send the man away. He had just saved at least one of their lives if not both. "My name is Nathan. Thanks." He shuffled slightly, not really sure what to do now. He didn't know this man who'd just come barging into their fight but by doing so he'd saved them. There was a conflict between not trusting this stranger and trusting someone who'd just risked their life for him. "Um.. So, what were you doing out here?" The distrusting side of him questioned why someone would be out here, simply watching two players fighting a boar. And, as it had always been, his distrusting side spoke a little louder than any other part of his mind.

Not at all surprising that the dark-haired boy would speak first.  The look in the young one's eyes reminded him of the stares of war veterans, men at the facility he knew who had experienced war, suffering from PTSD.  Not that the boy could be said to be in the same boat, mind you, but that stare, the one slightly hollowed by war and atrocity, too cold to trust most everything that came his way, that stare he recognized.  Even his immaturity, the slight shuffle of his feet, the disquiet attitude he all but radiated in Brax's direction, couldn't hide the look in his eyes.  Turning to look at the green-eyed one, he regarded the fire burning through his gaze, hatred at the world hiding behind his energetic stare, probably also wondering who this interloper was.  Perhaps it was the chance engage in more socialization, or maybe some part of him deep down felt a kinship between them, similar to the other patients in Dawson's Creek, but Brax could feel, oddly enough, wanting to spend time with them.  Latching onto that sense of desire, he answered quickly, "I was actually out gathering materials for crafting,  The NPC's in town are willing to give out EXP for a decent amount, and I thought this a safer avenue for gaining levels.  At least, safer than trying to take on a boar with a much thicker hide than expected," bluntly assessing the previous battle.  "Not that your hunting choices are my concern, of course.  To put it simply, the logical response, after observing the direction of your fight, was to offer assistance.  If we are to finish this game, we'll need every last person we can to assist.  Your survival, and possible future contributions, trumped my present pain and discomfort."

Jonathan watched as boar came charging. A figure of a man came hurting  between them. The figure killed the boar. A huge chunk of his life was gone now when he turned and introduced himself as Brax. Nathan seemed confused if to trust or not to trust. Jonathan kept his blade out in case Brax wanted to start trouble. Then Jonathan introduced himself. "Hello, my name is Jonathan. Thank you for taking that blow. It would have finished me. Jonathan looked at Nathan and said, "I think that will be our last, it is pretty dark now" Jonathan wasn't sure about Brax, but he would eventually warm up to him he guesses. If he didn't do any sketchy things.

Since Jonathan made no objections to the man's presence among them Nathan figured he couldn't go and tell the man to leave. Plus they owed him something since he'd gone and saved their lives. That didn't mean Nathan was going to open up and trust the man. If anything he distrusted the intention of the man at the moment. As he stared into the eyes of the stranger he tried to gauge what type of man he was. He saw a sense of hardness but didn't see anything that might betray what caused it. He couldn't quite place it but it seemed more like there was just a lack of emotion in them. Not that sense of betrayal by the world that he saw in the people's eyes from his old land. "It was just a matter of learning the system. It doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't tell the difference of one side of a sword from the other. However, I'll take your advice for the future. A bit more studying of the opponent is warranted." They'd come a little too close to death that time around. A little bit of pre-battle planning was extremely necessary, especially in a death game like this. He shook the thought from his head and swiped his hand down. At least for now he would let the man stay. And so it would remain until Nathan so reason to not trust him. Hopefully it wasn't going to be the one time that Nathan trusted someone that he would be betrayed. He sent a party request to Brax, adding another adventurer to his little adventure. "Well, since you're so smart in the ways of SAO.. What would you think about joining our party? A little bit more muscle is always welcomed." Brax, while seeming to be strong, couldn't possibly be too much stronger than them. Plus, Jonathan and he were bound to be about to level up which would only even the playing field even more. There wasn't much worry of trouble if Brax were to betray them... Something told Nathan it wouldn't come to that though. He would trust that small voice this one time and could only pray it wasn't wrong.

Brax felt a small smile creep across his face, almost too small to be seen.  The desire for camaraderie burned within him, just a flicker, then it vanished, leaving only his usual sense of satisfaction.  He knew how hard it could be to trust someone else; he had experienced as much near the beginning of his stay at Berringer, the hospital he called home.  Somehow, he also knew that this interaction, this party he was about to join, would open up something within him; that maybe, these two young men would help him find the first piece of his missing memory.  "That would be...acceptable.  Thank you.  I will do my best to assist as long as I am able.  Lead the way."  After that, Brax opened his own window with a swipe, clicking the accept button as his fellow party members made their way back into town.  Staring back over the darkened grasslands one more time, he breathed in the night air to gather his wits, and turning swiftly followed the men with a purposeful step.  What new adventures awaited these brave three?
