How he found himself in these situations, he'd never understand. Earlier that day he had encountered a woman who delivered upon him a request: Find her missing goods. Like a fool, he agreed and the quest was underway. Where was she separated from her goods you ask? Why none other than in The Lost, also known as the horrible, aptly named , and endless desert that encompassed the majority of the fifth floor. The blazing sun alone was enough to make Seul want to abandon the task and head for the comfort of the local inn. Unfortunately his greed overpowered any discomfort he might have been feeling. Like all quests, this one offered a rather nice skill point bonus for first time completion. He needed those points. Being only a few points away from the next level up, he wasn't about to let a little sand separate him from those rewards.

The desert wasn't going to make things easy for him. For starters, the woman didn't have the slightest idea of where she might have lost her supplies. When questioned about it all she could offer in response were a few shrugs and a 'you'll know it when you see them'. Great. The mission could take days at this rate. Maybe he'd even die here. Such thoughts only provided little comfort for the boy. By now he was what he assumed to be a great distance from the main settlement and having walked for half the day without any luck, he decided there was no point in even returning until the task was done. He would camp out and resume once the sun rose. Taking refuge in a small cavern he stumbled across, he wouldn't be sleeping much that night.

He didn't even have proper materials for a fire. He clutched his cloak closer in an effort to feel even a fraction of warmth but his shivering figure suggested otherwise. The sand and wind howled outside while the faint sound of... Voices were carried alongside them. Whether it was brave or foolish, he decided to investigate. Equipping his shield and having a hand on his dagger, he wandered to the mouth of the cave only to be caught in an ambush. Three desert thieves wielding cutlasses and various other tools sprang from the darkness and before he could so much as land a hit with his dagger, he was caught in some form of netting that brought him toward the earth, taking damage upon impact against the cold, hard sand and from the thieves who took turns stabbing at his vulnerable form.

Play time was over. Little did these thieves know that they had attacked the wrong player. Seul quickly casted the net aside and rose to his feet, letting the soft green glow of the shield's regen wash over his body and the protruding thorns in the fabric of his cloak retreated soon after. The bandits surrounded him in a triangle formation, but he wasn't worried in the slightest. He simply raised his shield and activated Shadow Stitch on the closest one. The final roundhouse kick landed and the thief died, but the fallen foe's friends didn't let up in their own attacks for even a single moment as they each managed to carve into the boy's back with their blades.

Seul spun around and lashed out with his shield, effectively disarming one of the thieves of his sword in the process. Another Shadow Stitch was launched into action and just as the first thief fell, so too did the second. The last thief scrambled to retrieve his blade, but the boy made no effort to attack. There was no need to rush now, not with it becoming a one on one battle. With any luck the thorns of his cloak would finish the job for him. By the time the bandit was ready, Seul had his shield raised and at the ready.

The next moment played out as expected. The thief, consumed by fear, couldn't budge and Seul cut him down with Shadow Stitch just the same. His energy was spent, but he figured he'd be able to regain it before sunrise by catching some sleep. Rounding up the loot dropped by the thieves, he headed back into the cave and hunkered down with the intent to rest. This time he was sure to keep his gear equipped as the desert was proving to be more dangerous than he would have liked.

It didn't take long for his consciousness to drift away. After the night's events he couldn't help but feel exhausted. How much longer would they all have to go on like this? Each battle put him at risk in some form or another and to be honest he was growing sick of it. It's not like he had many dreams in the real world, but who knows? Being stuck in Aincrad prevented all of them from becoming true. Even now, in his vulnerable state, monsters lurked just outside ready to murder at a moments notice. The worst part was, many of them were other players.

What was it that drove people to turn on each other? Greed? Power? He couldn't say... He had yet to encounter a player killer but if he did it may be his last. Was it better to die than to resort to such acts? Some may say yes. The only way he could say for show was if the moment ever presented itself. Dawn wasn't too far off on the horizon, but Seul was already up and preparing for another day of searching. Staying in one spot for too long wasn't a good idea in the wilderness and as soon as his energy returned he'd be back out and searching for the NPC woman's missing goods.

With his gear finally gathered up, he set out once more into the desert. It was still early but the sun wasn't going to let that stand in the way of cooking Seul alive. He must have been walking for ages, leaving behind prints in the sand only for them to be covered by short gusts of wind a few seconds later. Ahead there was a turn over and half buried caravan that seemed like it had been abandoned. "Guess here's as good a spot as any..." If there was any place that the cargo would be it might as well have been here. Or perhaps it belonged to the thieves he killed the previous night. Either way, there was only one way to find out.

With little effort he stumbled across a crate within the caravan. Literally. "Ouch..." He mumbled before moving to inspect further. Sure enough, a window popped up alerting him that this was indeed the woman's missing cargo. His mood quickly shifted as the quest was nearly complete! He just had to... Carry it... All the way back to town. Ugh. Grabbing the loot, he hopped out of the vehicle and made his way back toward town, lugging the wooden box along with him.

The boy carried his crate along, making great strides and putting forth a genuine effort to not pass out and die in the desert. He wiped the sweat from his brow several times, but to no avail. Times like this were when he wished he had a house so that he wouldn't have to resort to living at the inn. A soft sigh escaped his lips as he regained focus on the reward ahead. With this quest complete he'll be even stronger and closer to joining the fellow members of the knights on the frontlines where fame and glory awaited those who sought it.

He trudged along, carrying the crate with him as he did. Just what was so important that he needed to risk his life in the desert to find it? He could only wonder. Opening it would probably be grounds for invalidating the mission and he had already come too far to let all of that work go to waste. He'd just have to suck it up and let the NPC woman keep her secrets. It would all be better that way. "Doing it for the experience... Doing it for the experience..."

It would seem things wouldn't continue on this smooth path for long. Another trio of bandits arrived, barring the way to town unless the player relinquished the found goods. "Not a chance guys." Seul replied while dropping the crate into the sand by his feet. "Bring it!" The bandits exchanged brief glances before rushing in one after the other and triggering the thorns on his cloak each time. The closet bandit ended up getting the brute force of the Shadow Stitch sword art as the dagger pierced his chest and two kicks left him in a bad state.

The three thieves all charged again, desiring to kill the player that damaged one of their comrades. Seul's shieldwork however was too fierce as each time a thief would strike the aegis would find a way to intercept. The first thief was the safest target and so after their failed onslaught subsided, he unleashed the Tri Pierce to cut a triangle into the flesh of the man. He died shortly after the final stab and dropped a good sum of money to be picked up as well.

The bandits were enraged by the death of their friend and soon unleashed that rage on the boy in full force. Though, the hits only left behind minor bruises that were soon healed up by his regen enhancement. He lashed out with his dagger but was met with a blade that nulled the damage he would have dealt. It would seem the fight would drag on for longer than he intended, but it wasn't like he had anywhere to be or had a crate to find in the desert. He would fight all day if he had to.

They attacked again but were met with stalwart block techniques and another retaliation that would leave the second thief on the verge of death, just as it had done to the first. Everything was alright and although his energy was running low he'd be able to finish off the remaining bandits with his thorns if it was necessary. Truly it was a piece of cake. He could practically feel himself adventuring on the frontlines alongside the others. The thought excited him to no end as it meant all his hard work would be put to use.

Two more failed attacks on the bandit's parts left the last one wide open for an attack that would bring him close to death. The Shadow Stitch depleted Seul's remaining energy but the fight was as good as won now. With that in mind he sheathed his dagger and strode over to retrieve the woman's goods. "Unless you feel like dying you should probably get out of the way now." He said with a complicit glance to accompany it. He'd simply walk toward them now, waiting to see if either would heed the warning or not.

The two remaining thieves parted as he walked, creating a space for him to pass through. It would seem the realized there was no winning this battle if they continued and figured to escape with their lives in tact they would no longer hassle the player with their assaults. "That's what I thought." He walked between them with his eyes forward. He wasn't sure just how much time he wasted playing around with the mobs but it was enough to make him hate the game just a little bit more than usual.

Once he was well past them the two thieves thought it'd be a brilliant idea to launch a sneak attack. The each took turns stabbing at the boy from behind with their blades but that only proved to be useful for pissing him off. With a sigh Seul dropped the crate once more before drawing his dagger and activating the move Side Bite. The two glowing stabs to the hips of one thief was enough to kill him and now all that remained was the other who would soon be in for a world of hurt.

Out of fear and desperation the remaining thief lashed out with his blade while giving it all the force he could muster. The resulting hit left only a scratch on Seul's health which then restored only a second later thanks to the regen enhancement. Black spikes protruded from the cloak upon impact and penetrated the man's form to deplete the last of his health. He died afterward and with a satisfied grin the player gathered up the loot, his found crate and continued back toward town; only stopping to rest once night fell.
