[SP-F1] Material hunting - Complete

Recommended Posts

Hydra had recently run out of materials in his store and was in need of more. Hearing the best way to gather them was to kill monsters that met certain requirements, the spearman had ventured far out into the outskirts of floor 1 where he heard creatures there were stronger. The stories were right, the spearman stood a vast expanse of grassland stretching in front of him. Here he had more than just boars to kill. Or rather different types of boars to kill. They looked stronger, tougher and for some reason had red fur as oppose to the normal color of brown. He decided to take on one, approaching an individual on the brow of the hill.

On closer inspection the boar was certainly mean looking. It was covered in scars and had red eyes that glared at the player. "Hmm... to be lucky now would mean a lot". Hydra raised his spear ready to attack, although thought it was best to let them charge first and he would attack second. Raising his spear he and the MOB engaged in combat. The boar began to charge, not much differently than there related cousins although they were certainly faster. Hydra wondered how many lives they would have claimed. He decided to call them devil boars.

The spearman made sure his necklace pendant he called 'daydreamers light' was out in the open. If it caught a light source at the right point it would shine brightly in hope it would cause glare in the enemies eyes. Hydra eagerly dodged out the way as the boar tried to attack him from a complicated angle, he was having trouble deciding where to attack first though, so didn't attack. "I'll have to do better than that, otherwise my energy will run out".

Both player and boar clashed. Hydra bought down his spear directly onto the creatures head. Whilst it drop it's tusks into his stomach. The spearman coughed a little the wiped his mouth. "Got me there" he whimpered. Although he had done a fair amount of damage himself. The boar staggered around before circling to charge him again.

Hydra had completely misjudged the strength of his opponent, it full on charged hitting him again in the same spot. "Ah!", the spearman looked at his weapon and contemplated running "No... If you can't take down a boar on floor 1 what hope do you have". Raising his spear he attacked once again hoping this time to hit. He passed his spear over to his right hand hoping to put the boar off, unfortunately he was not right handed so the spear flew passed without making a mark.

Watching the boars movement Hydra was able to realize that whilst it could move quickly it lacked the ability to put in quick left and right turns. This time as it charged, the spearman side stepped to his right and planted 3 quick thrust into the beasts side. It squealed loudly, "Alright... nice if I keep doing this it'll be over soon". He quickly withdrew his spear and prepared for the next onslaught.

Once again both creature and player engaged. The boar expected Hydra's movement this time and dodged out the way, however the spearman was still able to pace backwards to ensure the boar could not hit him either. He was getting particularly low on energy at this point and it was vital for him to land this next hit, he sighed telling everyone he was going on a monster hunt when in truth it was difficult enough taking down a boar.

In a last effort attempt Hydra hit the boar and aimed straight at it's neck neck. This time he made contact, the boar was weakened and a wave of relief passed over the player as the spear dug into it's flesh. Yet still the boar would not die. The spearman was begging to get more and more angry now. He began waving his arm fiercely screaming "DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE!" Losing it completely Hydra lost sense of his emotions and went into an angry blood lust which he could not control.

Hydra's anger only made the situation worse. The boar he had wounded turned and smashed into him taking advantage of his mood. The spearman didn't understand how he was so weak. How other players could kill MOBs so easily. He staggered back to his feet and raised his spear once more, deciding to charge to the boar this time he had finally regained some sense however, in order to win a cool head was needed.

He shrieked, Hydra was not usually like this all the anger and sorrow that had been building up beneath him in this world erupted out at this one point. He started cursing and swearing at the boar, not caring it had once again hit him in the leg after several swings the spear finally fell to his knee's and watched as the boar burst into millions of shards.

Hydra decided it would be best not to attack any more boars for the day, he still had many SP to use so would wait for a good opportunity to spend them on something else. He headed back towards the town of beginnings. On his way he decided to look out for any materials he could bring back with him. Letting his familiar 'Dusk and Dawn' out he had it survey the area to see if it could pick up on anything interesting.

Loot: 15 (success) + 1 Mats

His familiar darted off somewhere, Hydra followed it, arriving at a very small stream a section of clay could be found. Scooping it up and continuing forward, the spearman kept a look out for anymore mats.

Unfortunately nothing interesting came up as the pair continued walking or hovering in his familiar's case back to to town. The spearman was slightly concerned about the lower levels of grassland where ordinary boars could be found. Shaking his head he decided it would be best not to worry about it. "I could do with some mitigation however, I'll get on top of that once I am back". He pondered to himself.

Leaving the outskirts of Floor 1 behind, the spearman entered a small section of woodland, Hydra started glancing around. The forest was thick and rich in life, surely he could find something here to take back with him. Hydra's assumption was correct, a black tree stood in the center of the forest. Sap was oozing out a section of it. The spearman collected it before continuing on.

After a few minutes of walking vegetation became less dense and the town of beginnings was in sight. Hydra was still half a day's walk from reaching it so there was no doubt he would need to fight a few boars on the way. Looking through his equipment he sighed. The player had two enchanted items, a pendant with which he could evade his enemies and a small ring which rarely told him where to strike at his opponents weak spot through rushes of energy it gave out. "I need upgrades" He said stroking his chin. "Armor would never hurt and a better weapon would also be nice... there is a limit to what I can wear though". The player sighed only to here his familiar call him with one of it's strange cries.

As Hydra walked towards his familiar he noticed it had found something. Hydra raised an eyebrow and shrugged "What is it?". The spearman approached and looked down the hill where his familiar seemed to be looking. Fear and panic spread through his system, a group of level 1 players had been surrounded and charged by 4 boars. One of the players screamed something, although Hydra was too far away to hear before they shattered into crystals, whilst the other followed soon after although managing to take down one of the boars with them. He shook his head in disbelief "that easily could have been me today, I was to late to help them though". Leaning against his spear and breathing heavily he thought for a moment he was going to collapse. "No, the least I can do is avenge them". The spearman gained control of himself.

Approaching the boars one had seen Hydra coming and retreated a little, it looked like it had been wounded.  The other two stood there ground glaring at the player. If these were devil boars there was no way he would be challenging them yet the fact they were beginner mobs gave him a little confidence. Thoughts rushed back to one of his earliest boar fights. He had been level 3 and had almost died fighting just a single one of them. "Alright who is first then" he said in a dark tone, picking up his spear and entering a defensive stance. + 3HP (still non combat)

As the boars charged Hydra raised his spear, both boars hit him in the legs. The spearman almost fell over, but managed to keep his ground. Raising his spear he bought it round picking up the first boar and launching it into the second. One strike was all it took before each shattered into shards. Glaring at the remaining boar that had been wounded it limped away. The spearman knew there was no point in going after it, they were just programmings made to kill players. "At least one good thing has happened today", both boars had dropped a material Hydra could take home to use in his store.

Hydra called his familiar over, he had named the left head 'Dawn' and the right 'Dusk' although he had not given it a name for both. "Hmm, how about Twilight?... sounds good". Having decided on his familiar's name the spearman collected his materials and continued onward back to the town of beginnings. The spearman had come along way since starting his adventure, yet he was still weak. He wandered how it was going up on floor 14, if any players had died yet. The thought that one day he may be serving on the frontlines sent a shiver down his spine.

On his way back Hydra took a quick detour to the area he had looked for materials when he was training to become Artisan. There had been a small cave system made from limestone. The spearman decided it might be a good idea to check back there, see if anything else could be found. The area had been safe the first time he visited and it was growing dark so if push came to shove sleeping there a night wouldn't concern him to much, besides getting away from others for a while would do him so good. After an hour of walking or so he finally found the area he had been looking for and began searching.

"Nothing, I suppose I can't complain luck has been all over the place today". Standing up he decided he should really get back. People had stuff that needed crafting and were relying on him. He would have to come back another time.

It was dark by the time Hydra had reached the gate and everything was silent. The spearman yawned, it felt as though the place had been overrun by ghosts. He thought back to the players he saw that were killed and wondered if anyone would be waiting for them, it was unfortunate that he had been too slow to help them but he was glad he didn't know them, having friends in this world was a good thing, but having too many is a risk. Hydra didn't want to be in the position where in his death others would be affected. A tear rolled down his cheeks and he wiped it away before continuing forward.
