[SP-F5] Going sunbathing

Allania walked out of the town on the fifth floor, walking out into the dessert that was this level of Aincrad. Today she was going to try something new. She was going to try and actually adventure on a floor she had not yet visited. It was going to be risky, but she didn't want to risk anything, so had taken a few items with her, just to be sure. Hopefully she wouldn't need them, as her armour should withstand the blows of creatures on this floor, but who knows.

Walking to the top of a nearby dunes, Allania stood and looked out over the sandy wasteland spreading out around her, it was such a drastic change to the floor she was used to, the floor she had effectively lived on for the duration her stay in this world.

The sun hung high in the sky, blistering the land around her. With not much to be seen yet, Allania decided that she would look for materials, to see what exotic plants grew in this vast desert. Allania had searched for a while, having not realised just how empty a desert is, she could not find a single plant. So much for exotic. So Allania continued on her way, deciding that she would once again attempt for a plant.

Allania continued to look, searching high and low for any fauna that may be present in this land. After a fair long while of searching, Allania managed to find a small oasis. A pool of water surrounded by a few plants, most of which she had not once seen on the floor below. Picking at one of the new plants, Allania gathered the material it bore, adding it to her inventory.

Having entered the oasis from one side, Allania started to move around the pool. Edging her way around the water, Allania began to search once again for plants. Wading now through the mud, she was looking for a plant similar to the one she had just found. Once she had waded through the mud, making a lap or two of the pool, Allania pulled herself out of the mud. All she had got from this attempt was muddy clothes, no more mats, nothing. So Allania decided it was time to move on, taking a sip of the sweet cool water from the oasis. Who knew how long she was going to be out there.

Allania walked away from the oasis, she headed back up a nearby dune, but this time to find a mob to attack. Standing atop the dune, Allania looked out across the desert. Scanning the horizon, she found a small group of creatures that could be a potential targetm so headed in their direction. As she was heading in their direction, the sand in front of her started to blow out into the air in a plume, launching from which was a giant scorpion, it was the largest mob she had probably seen yet. Luckily for Allania she managed to dodge the creatures blow, unsheathing her dagger in one fluid movement as she dodged.

Both her and the scorpion seemed to be being cautious, neither of them darting forward or rushing the enemy. It was very different to the fights on the first floor, on that level you could not get a moments breath. The Boar's there just kept rushing you, charge after charge, not a point of respite. Allania walked slowly forward, nervously. She did not know the strength of her opponent and thus did not want to rush in, but she had to strike at some point. Stepping just within range of the creatures claws it quickly launched itself forward, trying to slice the girl in twain. Darting forward, avoiding the claws by a hair width, her dagger flying forward, missing its mark as the unstable sand shifted beneath her.

Recovering her footing, Allania simply sidestepped as the giant creature brought it's stake like stinger down towards her, its barb piercing deep into the ground. The creature had a lot of strength, that was easy enough to tell, but it didn't seem to be hitting her once. Calmly, Allania activated her most powerful sword art, stabbing the creatures head 4 times in quick succession. It was not enough to kill the creature, but it was a devastating blow.

Shocked by the blow dealt to it, the scorpion staggered back a bit, its claw swinging wildly in an attempt to hit the girl, but to no avail. Allania rushed forward once again with her dagger, aiming for where she had just hit. Almost striking home, Allania's jab fell just short, having not expected for the creature to move so far back.

Looking at her energy bar, Allania knew she would not really be able to do much yet, so must bide her time, regenerating her energy for her next big move. In the split second that Allania had paused to think, the Scorpion brought its tail round, sideswiping her with it and knocking her to the side. As she was hit by the tail, Allania made a small noise of discomfort, and only that, as her armour had once again saved her from a near fatal blow. Slightly winded, but no worse for ware, Allania got back to her feet and prepared herself for whatever came next.

Seeing her energy counter tick up once more, Allania decided to unleash another blow on the creature. This one should be the finishing blow. So, rushing forward, Allania began to perform three quick thrusts with her dagger, puncturing deep holes in the scorpions carapace. Between blows, the scorpion just managed to get a hit in. Just managing to catch the girls side with its oversized scissors, but once again doing negligible damage.

As she stabbed the scorpion the last time it exploded into red pixels. She had survived. Coming out barely injured. Of her first fight on a higher floor.

Having defeated the scorpion and receiving her material. Allania dropped to her knees and started to burrow in the sand, looking for any extra materials. Digging a small hole, Allania was unable to find a thing there. Getting up, she brushed the sand off of her. *sigh*. Just the one material, but it was a start she guessed. Walking off towards the Sun, she continued her journey.

Walking along the dune top, she continued to search for materials. It was definitely not the most efficient way of gathering resources. After she had walked for nearly an hour now, she had not come across a single plant or scrap nor anything. No material and no creatures. This was truly a desolate place.

It seemed like she was having no luck with her search for materials in this stretch of the desert. Thinking she should try and find another oasis before long, the sun was high, relentlessly beat down upon her. With that sentiment, Allania began her search anew. Not only looking for materials, but an oasis, a place where she could rest her weary body. Walking through the shifting sand sure was exhausting.

Searching for an oasis seemed to be as futile as searching for materials in this wasteland. Not a single cactus nor mob in sight. They must all be burrowed underground to escape the heat, she thought. Longing to do the same, but knowing that she would likely just suffocate under the sand, Allania continued her plight. Stumbling in the heat, delirium nibbling away at her mind, Allania persisted.

As she was on the verge of collapsing, the sand in front of her started to shift. Oh no, she thought, not another scorpion. She was tired, exhausted even, but she would not let this scorpion do her in. As the creature began to climb out of the sand, ready to attack, it got launched at by the one that it was meant to be preying on. The hunter had become the hunted (OOC: woooww, cliche ftw).  It just managed to get off the one hit, but in doing so took more damage then it had dealt. As it exploded into pixels, the simple thought of, I chose wrong, ran through its head, over and over.

Having just killed another creature, Allania stumbled away. Once again trying to find an oasis. It seemed like there was a little hope. She was lost, lost in this dungeon. Not having a single way quickly returning to safety. It sure was tiring to travel out on this land. Next time she as sure to return prepared. Meaning water, plenty and plenty of water. Plus potentially a few friends to back her up.

Stumbling, falling short, collapsing to the ground. Crawling across the desert. she was not used to this weather. She had lived in a wet place, raining what seemed like constantly. She had been entirely unprepared for this place. It contrasted so massively with the first floor, where it was a sunny yet cool place. Breaching the top of the next dunes, Allania spotted it. What she had been searching for now for most of the day. An oasis.  Tumbling down the slope of the dune, rolling just short of the water. Getting up, legs shaking, Allania ran towards the water, using the last of what energy she had left. Crumpling to the ground at the edge of the pool, gulping water down. Sitting back, refreshed, Allania saw next to her sat a plant. Laughing. Everything had come at once, both the oasis and the material. She plucked at it, harvesting its material.

Allania just laid back. Relaxing. It was actually nice in this desert, especially when you're not dying from thirst. Allania just lay there, basking in the sun, much like an ectotherm. She had gathered her material, and that had made her content. A thought occurred to her, she should have a map of this place. Swiping her hand down, she opened her menu. The menu popping up infront of her, she went and found a map, one that indicated her and most importantly, the safe zone. Sighing, she was no longer lost.

Having relaxed, cooling herself in the chilled water of the oasis, Allania got up. Time to head on home. Following her map, walking in the direction of the town, Allania began her journey. Walking back up the dune she had come from, quickly coming back to the top of the dune. She knew that it would get dark soon, having been out in the desert for almost the full day but Allania would not be deterred from searching for materials. But after a short while of searching she could find none.

Continuing on her path, making a beeline straight for the Town. Being so focused, Allania may have passed by any number of materials, or she may have passed none. It was unknown to her. But that did not matter, it was taking longer than she expected to get back, the sun was already latching on to the horizon, sending its tendrils of orange and red arcing out across the sky. She was hurrying, walking fast. She wanted to get back before the sun fully set on this eventful day.
