[PP-F2] Spelunking Expedition

Recommended Posts

With the Queen Bee having been eliminated and it still being relatively early in the morning, the best course of action was to blitz Magda and Samriel through a few more quests. If the goal was to level both women up to at least level ten by the end of the day there was still a good amount of experience point distance that the blonde and his dearest twin needed to get covered, though they had made an excellent start given that each woman had gained multiple levels from eliminating the Queen Bee. "No time to rest on your accomplishments just yet," Mack rumbled, hoisting Invictus from where he had planted the axe in the ground to lean on it. "We still have a long way to go to get you both to level ten today. You're both going to be tired, and eat well, tonight." Rolling his head around on his neck, Mack moved back into the woods on the far side of the clearing where the Queen Bee had spawned, heading in the direction of the cave and their next quest for the day.

No rest for the wicked or so the saying went. Mack was already intent on heading to their next destination to keep them on the path of hitting level ten by day's end. The head of her hammer rested against the ground with her hands resting upon the bottom of the hammer's haft to support her weight. The last traces of the ferocity she'd demonstrated earlier when she thought Samriel had been in danger faded from her expression. It was quickly replaced with the very grin that so often graced her features. "You can judge how productive your day was by how tired you when its over," she said with a quick shrug of her shoulders. The hammer was taken in hand only to be rested back against her right shoulder. Her shield remained secured to her left arm just in case. She wasn't a stranger to hard work and she planned to put everything she had into this. What else was she going to do with her time here? She was faced with two choices each day she woke here in Aincrad. She could either train or fish and she wasn't in the mood to fish just yet. The prospect of eating well when they returned though was enough incentive to plow through this day. Other than pushing her limits she also enjoyed eating. Since the harder she worked the more she ate. When Mack started to walk Magda looked at Samriel and smiled. Her eyes closed and she let out a soft chuckle. "Shall we?"

Samriel nodded with a subdued sigh when Mack told them that they couldn't rest just yet. She wasn't tired of course, it was simply her laziness kicking in. But when he mentioned that they had a long way to go before they reached level ten and that they would rest and eat well tonight, the blonde blanched before following after the buff blacksmith. "Can't we eat well...like...sooner than tonight?" She wasn't hungry currently, but she knew it wouldn't be long before she would be craving something since she had skipped breakfast in her rush to make Mack's meeting time. But at Magda's gung-ho attitude, the blonde smiled a little with exasperation, giving up. "I suppose you have a point. Though personally I think it's all of what you've accomplished." And if they did manage to reach level ten by the end of the day, that would be quite an accomplishment for her. "So we're moving up from wasps to bats now?" She asked of the unofficial leader of their trio.

OOC: Samriel, Magda's already done earning a living. We could do that one and there aren't that many Artisans, Performers, or Cooks that are active and Magda is the only Fisher.

"Yes, from wasps to bats and, by the end of the day my sister dearest will be thrilled," Mack rumbled in a deep booming tone, clapping Magda heartily on the back. "I know two quests we can knock out today up on the fourth floor too, with my firepower in the group it should be relatively easy to handle both of them and the item drop from the Snow Beast will let us upgrade either one piece of Magda's equipment or one piece of yours," Mack continued, still leading the women along towards the cave. Technically, this quest was picked up from an NPC woman back in Urbus, luckily for the group Mack had spoken to that woman before either Magda or Samriel had arrived for the day's events.

As they neared the mouth of the cave, Mack unequipped St. Michael's Fingers and replaced them with Angelic Lantern a pair of gauntlets that had a light giving buff and carried two ranks of heavy momentum. They were low-tier gloves, but the light they threw off would be most useful. Just as he was going to step foot into the cave a quest window popped up and Mack reached out, lazily, with one finger and tapped the blue "Accept" button. "After you," he rumbled, gesturing to the cave as his gauntlets gave off a soft golden glow.

Magda grinned when Samriel asked if they could eat sooner. The redhead walked forward and clapped her hand against Samriel’s shoulder and leaned in close and whispered. “Don’t worry I have some bread stashed away if you need something to eat.” When she leaned away she spoke in a boisterous tone. “Adversity is the cornerstone that builds character and strength! Going a while without food won’t kill us.” Upon hearing Samriel’s question about the upgrade to bats Magda’s gaze shifted over to Mack. The response Mack gave only caused her grin to grow wider. The prospect of going through two more quests definitely thrilled her. There wasn’t a single doubt about that.  Silently she marveled over the chance to fight something again, and the mention of a Snow Beast definitely got her blood pumping. The sound of her grip tightening against the wrap along the haft of her hammer was just barely audible.

Idly she wondered if she’d get to fight it as they continued along their way until they eventually came upon the mouth of a cave. Mack's gesture to let them go first didn't make Magda hesitate for even an instant. She walked right into the cave with her hammer resting against her right shoulder. She didn't travel too far ahead though as she did enjoy being able to see where she was going. "Alright let's do this."

Samriel couldn't tell if Mack was being sarcastic about his sister being thrilled about the different monsters they'd have killed by the end of the day. Wasps and bats were pretty low on the weird monster tier, but she supposed they could only go up. At least they weren't killing boars and wolves. Sam was sick of those. When Magda leaned down to whisper to her the promise of a snack if she needed it, Samriel beamed before whispering in return, "My savior~" She'd have to keep that in mind. Perhaps after they finished here. Laughing at the woman's loud change of opinion, she simply nodded along. "We shall survive on the...pixels of our enemies!"

Frowning for a moment at the mention of the cold floor, the blonde tried to think of it as a good thing considering what he was saying about the quests on said floor. She'd definitely need a snack if she was going to deal with that. Shaking her head at Mack's statement about the drop from this 'Snow Beast', the young woman said with an easy going smile, "I'm fine as is. All yours sister." Meaning 'sister' in the colloquial sense as well as their new found 'Shield Sister' status. "Hey, how many quests are we going to do anyways? Kinda makes me wonder if there will be like a limit or something with the system. 'You cannot do more than five quests per day', or something along those lines." She had played other games like that in the past so players couldn't get ahead too quickly without exploring further and taking their time.

Finally Mack had lead them to an opening in a hillside, a cave. She should have seen that coming when he had mentioned bats, since it wasn't night time. Blinking at the sudden light, Sam looked from the dark of the cave's mouth to Mack's hands. He was wearing these gauntlets that seemed to exude light. "Huh, haven't seen anything like that before." Smiling in amusement at the blacksmith's show of chivalry, the blonde nodded in thanks before following after Magda with hammer still in hand, idly letting it fall back over the back of her hand before catching it again repeatedly. "Frick it is pitch dark in here. Guess you knew that though, huh?" She nodded to Mack's glowing gauntlets.

"Here," Mack rumbled, tossing a loaf of bread from his inventory in Samriel's direction. It had just registered to him that she'd said she was hungry. "A well fed healer is a more effective healer and that will help you out, sister mine," Mack rumbled, crossing his arms over his broad chest as both of the women preceded him into the cave. "Yes, Sam, I have completed this quest a few times before already. As for limits within the game engine to the amount of quests and experience that can be gained in a day, if there is such a limit I've never found it. All that matters is how hard you're willing to work and how far your sword arm can carry you. In here we're going to have to eliminate two giant bats, then the NPC child will appear and we'll take him back to his mother in Urbus. Pretty simple, especially since the bats spawn one at a time," Mack rumbled, stepping into the cave behind the two women.

"Speaking of bats, incoming," Mack called, spotting the first bat as it made its appearance. The creature promptly dive bombed the blondest member of the party, scoring a hit and being paid back seven-fold for its trouble by the thorns enchantment on Samriel's armor. "Well, ladies, it's all yours," Mack said lazily, planting the butt cap of his weapon on the ground and yawning loudly.

I like the way you think,” Magda said with a laugh. “Pixels of our enemies,” she mused. She continued to listen idly while the two talked about the specifics of today’s schedule and the more the was silent the more the considered what Mack had said earlier. Even when Mack’s gauntlets illuminated their surroundings in a dim light she didn’t say anything, but suddenly she stopped and her brow furrowed. “Wait… fourth floor… ‘snow’ beast.” Her words flowed out in a low tone that was barely audible but she stressed the O in snow for several several seconds. When Magda turned to face Mack it was a slow and deliberate motion. There wasn't any way she wanted to go back to that frigid place. She planned to debate the wisdom of pressing towards the fourth floor for today, or perhaps even try to reason with him to skip it altogether.  However, he’d started to talk about quest limits and such. The only thing she quickly added in was the word “Hammer,” when he mentioned sword arm.

She idly pondered what would be so challenging about whacking a couple giant bats with her hammer but she wasn’t one to decline a fight. He made mentioned of the NPC child again that would appear once the bats had been vanquished. “Sounds easy enough,” she boasted in her typical confident tone. Then the bat came and swooped down upon Samriel. Magda's hammer was in her hand as she moved forward intent to intercept it, but was just too slow in reacting to it. Now that she knew Samriel was of sturdier stock Magda didn't quite lose it in her attempt to protect her ally. Instead she simply moved in as a crimson light flowed off of her weapon. The hammer was held low fully intent to bring it up and slam it into the side of the bat's head.

With a quick shout the tall redhead closed the distance between her and the bat in short order. Her hammer rose and landed a solid blow against the side of its head only to be quickly followed up with an equally devastating blow. A wide grin spread across Magda's face as she watched its HP Gauge lower. "Over here you overgrown rodent."

Blinking at the bread suddenly being thrown at her, she managed to catch it with her chest, cradling the loaf between her armor and her forearms before stuffing the grip of her hammer into her belt loop and picking the bread up. "Thanks Mack." Smiling brightly at Mack's statement, she shrugged at Magda before biting down. Bread was simple and a world wide commodity that nearly every human being enjoyed.....and she missed it terribly. Moaning nearly obscenely as she chewed, the blonde let out a sigh through her nose. There just was no such thing as good gluten free bread, but at least in Sword Art Online she could experience the taste of real bread with absolutely zero repercussions. Glancing over her shoulder as Mack followed behind them and continued to speak. At his twin's correction of the term 'sword arm' to 'hammer arm', the blonde chuckled around her mouthful before swallowing and taking another bite. It was nice going into a quest knowing what to expect and especially with such overpowered backup. For the first time in many many months, Samriel actually felt fairly safe, even though she wasn't in a safe zone.

Looking up from her bread as the rumbling masculine voice called out that the quest's mobs were coming, she cursed around her mouthful and was about to try and put her only half eaten bread in her inventory before she was dive bombed and it escaped with her snack. Swallowing hurriedly, the blonde exclaimed, "Hey, that was mine!" In a hurt tone of voice, more concerned that it had taken her food than the small amount of damage it dealt her. The only small consolation she had was that it had been hurt by her armor when it had crashed into her and stolen the bread. Grabbing her hammer from her belt, Samriel was impressed yet again by the amount of damage that Magda dealt, crashing the flat of her hammer into the flying rodent's head twice with a 'sword' art.

Having a bit more confidence now that she had rose a bit in level, the blonde rushed the bat, hoping that she could catch it off guard from the other side, her shield raised to protect her even as she tried to copy the skill she had seen her Shield Sister just use. A golden light began to shine around the peen of her gemmed hammer and she quickly closed the distance between herself and her target before she swung her weapon up to meet the bat's head....but instead sailing harmlessly up and past it as it flapped just to the right. "Fffff-." The blonde stumbled slightly as she started to lose her balance from the failed attack but barely caught herself, throwing her right leg backwards to ensure she didn't topple over.  "Gah, you make it look so easy." She said to the red haired woman.

"Yes, Snow Beast, sister mine. As in snow. As in cold, as in... hang on," the ginger man said in an almost lazy tone as the giant bat wandered a little too close. Invictus flashed out, though with no sword art, and slammed into the bat. "The same floor where my shop is," Mack concluded, catching the half eaten bread when the bat dropped it and he tossed it easily back to Samriel. "We make it look easy, because we're fighters and you're a healer. It will naturally be harder for you, but you have skills we don't," Mack continued in an easy tone, wholly unconcerned by the combat. "Get used to it, not everything in life is a damn sauna, but I know a place on the fourth floor you won't object to. You've been there before," he rumbled, fondly recalling Samriel's decision to swim around in her underwear.

Magda was so focused on the bad that she failed to notice that it’d taken the bread Mack had given Samriel. At first anyway and her expression steadily hardened as she hefted her hammer against her shoulder. Her expression did soften once she heard Samriel comment on how they made this look easy. "It just takes practice," she said to try and encourage her Shield Sister. She heard Mack’s comments about the cold but it was something she’d address later. For now she

he was too focused as she charged forward and lowered her hammer. Crimson light sparked along the hammer's spike as she prepared to slam it right into the bat's head once more only the words of her brother slowly registered in her mind. "Get over it?!," Her voice rang out and her strike went wide right over the Bat's head and spun her around on the spot.

She really needed to have words with her dear brother once this was over. Her expression soured as she realized she'd missed her strike by that sudden outburst but all she could do was sigh and try to regain her focus.

{OOC: why do you enjoy my pain D; I can't help it both of them are physically awkward! I feel like RNGesus knows and is stacking the odds against them... T~T }

Samriel let out a small snicker as Mack antagonized his twin about the floor they were headed to next. She wasn't very happy about it either, but it was still amusing to witness the sibling banter. "Can't we go to somewhere warmer?" She asked with a hopeful smile. "Like the fift- Gah!" Her sentence was cut off by a surprised cry as Mack once again threw her bread, the same bread in fact, since he had rescued it from the bat's sticky fingers...wings? Feet? Whatever. She barely managed to catch it by cradling it between her chest and upper arms and then lowering her head to bite into it. "Fank oo." She said around the mouthful, unable to simply hold it since her hands were occupied. Glancing between the bat and Mack as he spoke of why it was easy for them, she wondered if Mack was some sort of MMA fighter like his twin. Something had to explain his entirely too buff appearance. If her mouth hadn't been occupied, she might have made some jesting comment about how they had a leg up on her because of their personal experience, especially given Magda's 'practice' comment.

But when he told her to 'get used to it' because life wasn't sauna, the blonde couldn't help but grin around the baked good, her eyes showing more of her smile than her mouth. That was a pep talk if she ever heard one, though she was momentarily confused at his mention of one place on the fourth floor where she had been that was nice before realizing that the party he had held had been on the fourth floor. Perhaps the entire floor wasn't bad, but she was absolutely sure that the only good parts were the ones that managed to be warm in spite of the persistent snow. Her Shield Sister didn't seem to appreciate her brother's 'buck up' comment nearly as much though, so much that it caused her to miss her attack on the bat completely. Taking that as her cue, Samriel walked sideways, following along the cave's wall before suddenly lunging out, swinging Dawnbreaker in a wide horizontal arc from right to left. Perhaps sword arts weren't her thing, but a regular attack was fairly simple. Just swing until you hit. This seemed to be the way to go, since for the first time today, her hammer actually connected with something, whittling away two measly health points from the flying rodent.

"And Mag-gwire swings for the fences and comes out of her boots," Mack called to his twin as Magda took a crazy swing at the bat and missed by a mile. "Yes, get over it... and you're welcome," Mack continued, seating himself on the floor of the cave and holding Invictus in his lap. "Also, the fifth floor is just the worst. Sand everywhere. It's really much too hot. Never forget that cold is better than hot. You can always put on more clothing to get warm, but there's only so much you can take off before you're naked and still entirely too hot." While he was speaking the gigantic bat flapped over and landed on his shoulder.

"Look, the bat's landed on me if he were to bite me it would," Mack began as the bat sank its fangs directly into the top of the red headed man's skull. "Ow, be mildly annoying." Already the regenerative qualities of his armor had kicked in to heal the single point of health that the bat had managed to knock off of the impressive health bar that the high ranking member of the Knights of the Blood Oath possessed.

"Now that's what I'm talking about Samriel!" Magda shouted in an attempt to encourage her Shield Sister. She felt proud that Samriel had landed an attack against their opponent. Despite this she quickly frowned when she heard what Mack had to say next. "You make it sound like I have an issue getting naked or something," she quickly added in with a smirk. "Alright lets finish this." Magda ran forward but this time she didn't activate a Sword Art. She'd taken a glance at her energy gauge and realized she'd only be able to use it once more before she would need to rest to regain her energy. The only issue with that according to Mack they would need to fight two of these Giant Bats. She ran right towards her brother with her hammer held high. "Oh brother! Don't move," she shouted when the thing landed on his head but he brushed it aside so she quickly followed after it. Her hammer arced through the air and slammed into its back, but only lost a small portion of its health.

Grinning widely at Magda's praise, she let out a surprised laugh at Mack's teasing of his sister's wide swing, and Samriel argued, "That might be true, but I'm much more used to the heat than the cold." When Magda implied that she would be perfectly fine going naked to stay cool in hot places, Sam blinked with wide eyes at the other woman before shaking her head with a smile. "Oh snap!" She had just noticed the bat had not only just flown over to the red haired man, but also tried biting him. Technically it did succeed, but it was a rather pathetic success considering it only did one damage and was immediately healed. "Wow, I almost feel bad for it." The healer couldn't help but comment even as her Shield Sister told her brother not to move. It was like a scene out of a cartoon and Sam nearly expected for the female twin to smack her other half right on the head and miss the bat completely. But thankfully that wasn't the case. Circling around Mack's seated form to try and close off the creature's escape, Samriel punched out with her hammer at its flapping form.

"If you went naked I'd have to pluck out the eyes of every man that saw you," Mack said simply, shrugging his broad shoulders and nodding sagely. "I can't have every other male player wondering what I'd look like naked if I was a woman, or have any of them ever seeing my sister dearest in her birthday suit," the blacksmith continued as the bat flapped over and landed on his shoulder again.

"Oh no... Batty's back. Whatever shall I do," Mack asked in a droll tone, eyeing Magda and Samriel and allowing his gaze to linger on the blonde a bit longer than it really should have or needed to. Who could blame him? The bat screeched a manic, and somehow still depressive, battle cry and sank its fangs into his neck. "Oh no. Ow. But now I have zese strange feelinks of powah," Mack rumbled, holding up his hands and clenching them in fists as he spoke in a ridiculous vaudeville Teutonic accent. "Garlic, sunlight, and crucifixes... my mortal enemies..." The bat remained perched on his shoulder, even as the regeneration in his armor kicked in and completely healed the wound.

"If you prefer the heat then, after we're done up on four you and I can trek to the Hot Springs and Magda can go off by herself to Armadillo Town in the middle of the burning desert. It just so happens I made a deal with a certain chef and now I get all the good quality food items I want absolutely free. I've got more tasty things to eat than even my grizzled grizzly companion can imagine in his wildest furry dreams," Mack said, nodding his head and completely ignoring the bat perched on his shoulder before glancing at it and doing a ridiculous double-take. "My God, Polly, what have those murderous ninjas done to you? They will pay for this insult to pirate kind."

She shrugged at Samriel's comment about how she almost felt sorry for the bat. She could only assume she meant because it was pretty much outclassed here. All three of them were regaining their health faster than it could deplete it. "Well I prefer it this way than the alternative. Now don't get me wrong I do enjoy a good fight but I don't think Mack would pit us against anything that'd possibly kill us." Once again Samriel delivered a powerful blow to the bat with her hammer and incited another encouraging shout from her Shield Sister. "Now that was a great attack! It looks like you're getting the hang of fighting." The redhead turned her attention back to the bat just in time to see it land on Mack's shoulder but he didn't seem overly worried. In fact he was rather comedic about it even as it bit him. When he started speaking with that hilarious voice and acted like he'd been turned into a Vampire Magda just lost it. She couldn't help herself and had to wrap her arm over her stomach as she nearly doubled over in laughter.

She eventually regained her composure and stood. Magda had laughed so hard water had formed around the corners of her eyes so quickly wiped them away. Mack went on to elude that she should go visit the desert to get her daily dose of heat so that he could take Samriel over towards the hot springs on the fourth floor for what she could only imagine was for some rest and relaxation. The thought caused a wide grin to spread across her lip as she looked over at Samriel and offered her a playful wink. "Is that so? Well I guess I have been meaning to visit a town stranded in the middle of a desert." Magda readied her hammer to attack the bat that was still perched on her brother's shoulder but he had to go and slay her once more with his humorous outburst. "P..Polly! BAHAHAHAH." Magda was finished as she lost herself in a fit of laughter. She certainly wasn't shy about laughing that much was pretty obvious. She couldn't even muster up the concentration to attack the bat.

Nodding at Magda's reasoning, the shorter woman replied after jumping back to give her room to strike, "If this was a harmless game, it'd be boring as mess, but as it stands, I'm content with this." Grinning at her Shield Sister's praise, Samriel beamed, starting to not feel so useless. At Mack's bored tone as the bat tried to attack him once more rather than the two women that were actively trying to kill it, the blonde couldn't help but snicker. But when he started acting like it had 'turned' him, the woman simply lost it along with her companion, leaning against the redhead for support as she tried to catch her breath. "Ohhhh...ohh dios mio...heheha."

Mack's statement concerning food immediately caught her attention and sobered her a little, eyes and hopeful smile wide, completely missing the part about Magda going to another floor while it would just be the two of them. "No way. For free?! That sounds like too good of a deal. Jeez what did you do, sell your virtual soul? Or...other virtual virtues?" Her expression made it clear that she was merely joking though. "I can't even imagine how much food your dog would imagine. I'm pretty sure it's part black hole."

When Mack did a double take at the bat now perched on his shoulder, seemingly needing to take a rest after the strain it took to attack the man, the laughter began to return, "PFfffffffffhaha! B-Because pirates! A-And ninjas! Hehehaha...f-frick..." She only laughed harder watching Magda's wide swing and tried to make one of her one, barely clipping the creature's wings to her own frank surprise.

[H: 3] Samriel: 16/16 (2/4)

Giant Bat: -6/50 (-15 DMG)

"No, I didn't sell anything other than the guarantee of free armor and weapons to Takao," Mack rumbled, crossing his arms over his chest and keeping one eye on the bat. "For starters, I don't swing that way, and second that's called prostitution. If Takao likes it, he's going to have to put a ring on it," the ginger giant continued, holding out his hands so everyone could see there was no engagement ring on either of them.

Clearly, his two traveling companions had been completely slain by his wit. Vampires, pirates, ninjas, all were quite amusing things. Especially when the bat in question had about as much hope of causing the ginger headed man real harm as a chimpanzee did at painting the Mona Lisa. Mack watched as his twin took another wild swing at the bat  and missed crazily, likely because she was laughing too hard. Meanwhile, as Samriel took another swing the bat took to the skies once again, even as she clipped one of its wings. "Allow me," Mack rumbled, "Now that I'm a vampire we're basically brothers." The bat, clearly taking offense to the remark, dive bombed Mack as he stood and threw his arms out wide.

"BROTHERS DON'T FIGHT! BROTHERS GOTTA HUG!" The bat slammed into the colossal blacksmith's broad chest and he enfolded it in a massive bear hug. As the bat struggled to get free, Mack secured a grip on each of the creature's wings. "I said we're on the same team... why can't you just listen," Mack grunted. As he struggled with the bat a vein popped out in his neck and with a roar, the blacksmith flexed his muscles in quite literally ripping the bat in half. Given that it was a digital creature, there was exactly nothing in the way of blood, guts, or gore.

"Well," he concluded, brushing off his hands as if nothing out of the ordinary had just happened. "Should we head off deeper into the cave to find the next bat?"

That’s actually very true.” Magda was quick to reply to Samriel’s statement that this would be extremely boring if their lives weren’t the price for failure. With her Shield Sister being equally amused with Mack’s antics Magda had more difficulty in regaining her composure and when she heard Samriel question if Mack had sold his virtual “virtues” she nearly lost it again and had to stifle a laugh. What wasn’t amusing though was just how difficult it proved for both Shield Sisters to hit the bat during their fits of laughter. She wanted to say something about that but couldn't manage to form any words without the risk of just descending into a fit of laughter again. This time she'd probably roll all over the cave if she wasn't careful. When she finally managed to calm down Mack stepped forward to handle the bat but the way handled it caused Magda to quirk one of her eyebrows. She watched as he ripped it in two and suddenly she just saw something she’d have to try at some point.

"What a splitting performance," she said with a smirk. When she turned to look at Samriel the redhead suddenly looked very serious as her demeanor changed. A slight frown tainted her usually ecstatic expression. "You see why we don't have any brothers now?" She managed to keep that serious expression for a full thirty seconds before she snorted and hid her grin behind one of her hands as she placed it to her mouth. Mack suggested that they continue into the cave. A brief glance at her energy gauge revealed that it wasn't fully replinished but that wasn't something that deter her from seeking out a fight. Magda leaned her hammer back against her right shoulder and grinned wildly at Mack. "Let's." That was the only thing she said as she turned and tried to head further into the cave. After all they had a little kid to save.

(+1 Energy [3/5]] 1/3)
