(SP-F6) (Quest) Calming the Soul

Recommended Posts

Rumors circled the floors of Aincrad far faster than any text that was sent in the real world. Bits of gossip here and there, while tips and tricks slithered their way in and out of conversation oh so effortlessly. Information thrived in a completely digital world and trying to keep it hidden proved to far more hassle than what it was worth. One such rumor, told the makings of a quest on the sixth floor that allowed you to obtain a skill that granted energy regeneration.

All though it took time, it’s stated that one could simply meditate and regain energy at a faster rate than that of the timed regeneration. Having heard the rumors float around the area, the gray-haired player had decided to seek out the rumor and prove it to be true. Easing from his wooden sanctuary, known to the common folk as a chair, the young lad patted his leopard cub and gestured towards the door. Nodding the cub sheepishly returned back to his nap.

Shrugging it off, Oikawa exited the shop and headed for the floor one boss room. While being a player killer meant less interaction with ignorant players, it also meant he literally had to walk nearly everywhere. Beginning his trek, his excitement grew. If he was to go for the rumored Duelist Unique Skill, he may or may not need to acquire this one before hand. A whitened cape shimmered into existence as he stepped into the grasslands just outside the jungle of the sixth floor. Wasting no time, the young man pushed for the tree-line and stepped into the foliage.

Sounds of all sorts encompassed him as he began to tread along the path he and …”Azide” used to take. His own voice surprised him as he realized he spoke the name aloud. It had been far too long since the male had adventured with his late mentor, but now he couldn’t. His thoughts dove through the events of the last few months. Each action he had taken, the path he carved for himself to lead him to his current situation. One could say, he was harboring his own demons at this point.

His steps slowed at the sound of water. His gaze shifted about as he slowly located the source. Spotting the cascading falls of crystal clear liquid, Oikawa began to hike towards the ridge where he was to sit to accept the quest. Approaching the slabs of rock protruding from the rushing water, he seated himself and a quest menu appeared. Selecting accept, he then closed his eyes and began to hum to himself.

Clearing his mind of everything, he sat and waited. The cool darkness invited him. Closing around him, the waves of nothing crashed down on him until a voice sounded. His eyes opened, the scenery was all white save for the shadowy figure that mimicked him a mere few yards away. Standing up, Oikawa peered at the shadowed version of himself. The shadow version, rose and did the same to him. After staring for a few moments, a chilled demonic voice spoke. “Do you know what I am?”

“No”

“I am your first inner demon, Guilt. Kill me and relieve yourself of it.”

Not giving the lad much a choice, the demon reared back before lunging forward. Side-stepping the lunge, Oikawa drew his rapier and pointed it at the demon in one swift movement. Lunging forward, his frame glowed as <Charge> took effect, allowing him to activate the motion for <Penetrate>. Stretching forward, he unleashed three high speed thrusts aimed at various vital points on the demon. Gritting his teeth the demon chuckled before falling to dust.

"So you've relieved yourself of guilt, but what about Regret?"

"Regret?" he questioned as guilt exploded into digital polygons.

"Yes Regret. As in me."

Turning around, Oikawa's eyes followed the voice and left his gaze centered on what appeared to be yet another inner demon.

"You must be Regret."

The demon grinned and bowed. "In the flesh so to speak." Drawing a blade the demon licked the corner of his lips before mouthing. "Shall we?"

Wasting no time, Oikawa lunged forward once again, taking the same action once again.

The gloved fingers that wrapped around the handle of his blade tightened as he neared the cackling demon. The shimmer of the blade gleamed as the gray-haired player felt the effects of <Charge> swell within him once more. Pulling back, he thrusted forward fully as he tore into the demon with his <Shooting Star>. The demon simply smiled and laughed as he dissolved into nothing. Only managing to squeeze out another riddling phrase. "While Guilt and Regret may be gone Hatred and Morality still remain hehe."

"Well lets not keep you waiting," echoed a shrilling voice. Turning around once more, Oikawa faced off against Hatred. Ironically, the longer he stared at this demon the more he wanted to end it's very existence. This inner demon caused him trouble than it was worth to harbor, and the young player wanted nothing more than to rid himself of the feeling. Harboring rage was a struggle within itself and he realized it was much easier to just destroy the creature. Sprinting the boy, let the effects of <Charge> take action once more as he unleashed yet another <Shooting Star>.

The demon evaporated from existence within seconds. Not even given the chance to speak or antagonize the cloaked man as he tore into it with his rapier. Clicking the rapier back into it's sheath, Oikawa heaved a sigh. Despite clearing the quest, he still didn't feel at ease for what he had done. He had taken a player from this world. A bout of rage and and ill-tempered thoughts plaguing his usually clear mind. Causing him to do something he normally wouldn't. Collecting the loot and swiping the menu away. He began to search around for more materials.

Opening his eyes, the scenery around him suddenly 'turned on'. The sounds of the forest around and the rushing of the water that falls not even mere inches in front of him. Rising from the rock like seating, he makes his way back down tot he bank of the waterfall. Still uneasy about his feeling, he did feel a sort of relief that he had the opportunity to conquer his demons. Though they seemed laughable at best in terms of strength. He wondered if that was just pre-made code or if he was actually considered to strong for his own good.

Taking a sweeping gaze, Oikawa searched the bank for any signs of emerald ores. Given the floor and his location, he reasoned he was roughly a few miles off from where he and Azide adventured many moons ago. The encounter still rather vivid as flashes of the coiled emerald scales blinked into his mind. As he thought on it, he realized that was also the initial trigger of his psychotic break so long ago. The irony of it all, he mused. Still glancing around, he realized that the area he was searching in was rather barren.

Moving further along the bank, he continued to keep his eyes peeled for any little green gems jutting from the sand. The whitened crystals offered him no form of comfort as his gaze jumped from rock to rock. Sighing, he stopped and turned towards the treeline. he reasoned he might have better luck in there but also didn't feel like dealing with the inhabitants of the jungle. Taking one last look around, the blonde cracked a small grin as he spotted one of the ores sticking out from water eroded bank.

Collecting the ore, he placed it into his inventory and began to head back home. Cutting through the jungle, the cloaked player began to increase his pace as he broke into a sprint. Drawing his blade, he slashed through lush undergrowth with each step across the jungle floor. Taking an awkward step, he tumbled to the ground. Through warranted groans, he picked himself up and glanced to see what he tripped over. Surprise explained the expression on his face as he peered into the hole he nearly fell into.

Smirking, the blonde walked around to the other side of the hole that had stairs leading down into it. Trotting down the steps, he entered a small cavern. Torches rounded the room and gave juts enough light to make out the four mobs that lay in wait. The <Dungeon Serpent(s)> hissed and slithered towards him. Retrieving his rapier, Oikawa prepared to take on the emerald cobras as they closed in on him. He was mentally prepared for the snakes this go around despite his phobia of them.

Just as they closed in on his max range,t he blonde immediately attacked. Activating the effects of his <Charge> skill, he swayed left then right, setting in play his pre-motion for the <Sweep> sword art. His rapier quickly lit up as the sword art activated and he plunged the blade into the four creatures. His strength was rather impressive despite the skill he used being one of his weakest ones. Collecting the loot from the creatures, his eyes quickly darted to the massive coiling taking place at the end of the room. The dungeon boss, <Jungle Conda> hissed and rattled in his direction.

Gathering another smirk on his lips, Oikawa pressed forward. <Charge> took effect once more, though this time he planned to take out the over-sized serpent with his <Over Radiation> sword art instead. As he closed in on the reptilian, he unleashed fourteen thrusts and jabs across its scaly skin. The mob didn't take to kind to the action, thus causing it to retaliate as it sank it's fangs into the cloaked man's torso. The bite wasn't nearly as bad as he thought, but he was rather depressed that he had only managed to take half of the anaconda's life.

Cocking his arm back, he opted to go with a different plan. Sinking the blade into the snake, he watched as paralysis slowly overtook the massive snake. Not so tough now are we, mused the blonde as he removed the blade from the creature. I should conclude this quickly, it is starting to get dark out and I still need to make it back to floor one. I should just use Over Radiation once more and call it good. That way I know for sure I will have killed it. Having made up his mind, Oikawa charged forward once more.

Activating the pre-motion for <Over Radiation> once more, he riddled the frame of the emerald serpent before it dispersed into polygons. The loot window popped up, notify him of his new loot totals. Dismissing it, he located the stairs and headed back up. Reaching the top, he noticed that the sun was already lowering and the temperature had begun to drop. Not wanting to waste anymore time, he darted off through the foliage once again. Before he knew it, the sun had completely fallen and the moon had began its reign. But alas he was safe once more, within the comforts of his shop.
