[SP - F6] The Jungle Crook <<Deforestation>> COMPLETE

Recommended Posts

It didn't take long for news about the new quests to spread among the player base. Seul was determined to be one of the first to take down the field boss on the sixth floor. The flaming tiger known as Byakko. After arriving via the teleport plaza he wasted no time with heading toward the main gate and out into the forest to search for the beast. He wasn't expecting it to be a particularly difficult task. Tracking it in a place made almost entirely out of wood would be as simple as following the trail of charred remains the creature left in its wake and ultimately he opted to go solo on this quest. He'd be able to move faster this way and without having to look after others who'd probably just get in the way.

There it was! The monster that was bathing the jungle in a constant sea of flames. It might have looked menacing, but there was nothing to really worry bout given the floor he was currently on. "Alright fat cat, let's play!" He said while rushing off toward the boss. Byakko of course saw him coming and lashed out with one of its paws in response. Seul brought his shield up to block which kept the damage he received minimal, but also left him no room to retaliate as his dagger swing only cut air.

The tiger followed up it's attack with a clawed strike to the knights other side which would fling him into a nearby tree. "Ow..." He mumbled somewhat jokingly. In reality the attack had dealt a grand total of 1 damage and the healing enhancement on his armor brought his health back up without much of a problem afterward. He rushed in to retaliate the hit with Cross Edge. Two intersecting slashes into the beast's flesh left it reeling back and the health bar by its head fell almost to the halfway mark as a result.

The boss didn't take kindly to that and decided to try another swipe at the knight's legs now. Seul rolled to one side to avoid the hit but was left out of range again as he returned to his feet. The tiger was much more resilient than any of the previous field bosses he fought in the past, but that didn't mean it was any stronger than them. The fight would just take a little more effort to complete, but in the end he would come out on top as the victor. "Quit that so I can kill you!"

Taunting the beast only served to enrage it further. The flames covering Byakko's body seemed to grow in intensity and before the player knew it he was getting slammed again by a giant paw, only this time the flames extended to him as well. "Too hot, too hot!" He yelled while patting out the tiny flames that covered his coat. The hit had taken off a good chunk of his HP, but he would heal it back up momentarily anyway so it didn't bother him too much. When he tried to fight back, the monster simply jumped out of the way. At this rate the whole jungle would burn down before he could kill it!

The tiger let loose another paw swat and Seul took even more damage... Only to have it heal back a second later. But of course when he tried to counter the monster would simply move out of the way. Why was this thing so damn fast? His accuracy wasn't great, but if he could just land another hit on the stupid thing he wouldn't need to care about things like accuracy. It wasn't like he was in much danger, but he didn't like that this fight was going to drag on. They were fighting in a place full of highly flammable trees after all. The longer he took to kill it, the more likely it was to cause damage to the place.

Byakko was enjoying this a little too much. The player was like a toy to him and when his next slash was blocked by the knight's shield he was caught of guard to say the least. Seul knocked the monster's paw away before activating the Cross Edge once more. The glowing dagger ripped into the boss and left it even more wounded than before. It's health was only a fifth of what it once was and it was feeling the effects of the attack in full force as it now swayed in a struggle just to remain standing.

Still, the beast possessed enough vigor to land another strike on its opponent. Seul tried to bring his shield up to block, but was too slow and as a result could only manage to cushion the blow a bit as the paw knocked him into yet another tree. Once he regained his composure he rushed the boss again only to return to the missing spree. Sigh. At least this little scuffle was providing good exercise for him. His energy management was also doing pretty well and with any luck he'd be able to improve it in the days to come.

The tiger pawed at him once more for what would be the final time, but Seul blocked it once again with his shield. He knocked the monster's paw toward the ground before unleashing Cross Edge one more time. The dagger dug into its skin and tore it apart, depleting the rest of its health bar as a result. Byakko was no more and turned to pixels in the wind as the bar by its head emptied. The quest was done and the reward he received from doing it went straight into his inventory as he accepted it. "Well that was simple."

The stroll back to town was peaceful enough. The trees that had been ruined by the flaming monster would grow back eventually and now the Amazons didn't need to live in fear of having their village burned down. All was right with the world once more and Seul would have liked nothing more than to retire to the local inn for a nap. That wouldn't be happening though. As he passed through the gate he was bombarded by a crowd of NPCs, all of them being the giant female residents of the town showering him with praise for defeating the tiger. "Whoa- This is new." He said while scratching the back if his neck in a nervous fashion.

The women dragged him off to the tavern where a celebration dinner would be held to honor the player who killed the burning tiger. He felt slightly awkward about the whole ordeal though. The thing woud come back eventually, he knew this. So then why would they want to celebrate its temporary demise. Maybe it was better to not think about these things too much. The world was just a game after all. To them he stopped the beast from destroying their home and were grateful for his help. These things were real to them and he couldn't bring himself to tell them otherwise.

And so the fest continued with Seul sitting awkwardly in the center of it all. How much longer did they al plan on going on with this? He could only wonder as he watched the women talk amongst themselves. He allowed his mind to wander... Not to anywhere dirty, just to that of the other knights. They would probably enjoy something like this given how the guild holds stuff like this often. Having them there would probably have lightened the mood as well, at least for him anyway. It wasn't a secret he was terrible with women. Even if these were just NPCs they looked and acted as real as anyone else might have.

He couldn't take it anymore. He would feel bad for slipping away from the party that was being thrown for him in the first place, but he needed to go and... Do something. Anything but just sit around. There was time for that later but with him being so close to getting even stronger being idle wasn't exactly ideal for him. When no one was looking he slipped out of the tavern and made his way toward the town gate. He would get in some more training today on some of the mobs just for good measure and return before anyone even noticed he was gone.

How far away was he now? He didn't know and didn't care. The jungle all started to look the same after five minutes of walking. He was lost in the vast expanse of trees and to make matters worse he could hear a roar sound from deep within the depths of Amazon's Folly. Had the beast respawned already? There was only one way to find out... He walked for quite some time until eventually he stumbled across a patch where the trees had been burnt down. Then it hit him. Like a ton of bricks the paw of Byakko struck once more, pinning him beneath its immense weight. The flames coming off its fur were intense and passed by his mitigation as if it wasn't even there. He let out a small cry before using Cross Edge to drive the monster away. Round two had only just began.

The tiger back pedaled until it was far enough away to regain its composure. It swiped with another paw only to miss and receive the Cross Edge again in critical form. The last hit was devastating and to be taken down to the red zone so easily twice in one day was embarrassing to put it lightly. What would the other bosses think? If they saw how quickly this player was killing it they'd surely laugh and kick the tiger out of the cool field boss club. No! Byakko couldn't have that. The beast would need to take out the knight and soon.

Seul dived out of the way of the next pawing as well, but missed with his own strike. So far the damage he received was being kept to a minimum by his defense and healing but the battle was still going on unfortunately. The monster must have really wanted him dead  but he had no intentions of losing this match. Just as he had defeated it earlier the tiger would fall by his dagger once more. Then it would be on to strike down the other bosses. He was on a roll after all.

Byakko rushed toward him at full speed but was stopped abruptly by the four stabs of Seul's Fad Edge sword art. Each stab landed its mark on the monster and lowered its health to a dangerously low level as a result. The next attack would be enough for him to finish the job and at this point he was just playing with the beast. Wasting time until he was ready to move on to the next monster to slay. "Almost there..." He mumbled while looking toward his health bar. This last battle would probably be enough to push him over the edge if he was lucky.

Another block with his shield stopped the monster's attack. The knight retaliated with the Armor Pierce sword art. It was a weak attack, but at least it would provide him with some time to finish off the boss in a cool way. Byakko was stunned, flinching in pain as the knife pierced its skin. Why was the player torturing it now? Seul was simply bored. He wanted to kill time (and monsters) but nothing on the lower floors was able to harm him too badly, save for the other players. Not that he was in any rush to place himself in danger, but he had to do something to get stronger for the frontlines.

It was over. Four more stabs from Seul's dagger in the form of a Fad Edge caused the tiger to burst into pixels once more. He gave the weapon a short twirl before sheathing it and making his way off back the way he came from. Despite being somewhat lost he knew he'd eventually stumble into town since the floor was only so big. It had been an eventful day and the party was still probably going on in his absence. Sneaking back in would be difficult, but not impossible. He hoped.

As he had suspected the gathering was still going strong once he arrived back at the tavern and the women were delighted to see him return. Many of them had figured he just left but he wasn't so ungrateful for their efforts to do that without at  least saying goodbye. Why did he care so much about what they thought though? They were NPCs... Could they even really 'think'. He didn't know. Not that it would really make a difference if he did know. He was simply going about his task as a player to keep the world in balance. His world. All the time he spent in Aincrad made the castle feel like a second home of sorts.
