History

Yoshi has sought the warrior's path since the young age twelve; however, the path he wished to travel was not so clearly seen. He lived alone after being abandoned by his parents who had left him to go gambling in the city and never returned. He was fine with their absence. Soon after being abandoned, Yoshi began getting into more and more trouble. He started stealing from stores, committing vandalism, and harming the other children with weapons (mainly sicks) when they tried to bully him. One day when he was beating up the bullies that were trying to attack him, a mysterious man intervened. The man told Yoshi that what he was doing was not an appropriate use of his skill. The children Yoshi was beating up ran away, leaving him and the man alone. After some talking, it was revealed that the man who had intervened was named Tsurugi Aokama, and he owned a monastery far to the North in a mountain range where people would go to rigorously train their bodies. At the end of their discussion, Tsurugi had a proposal for Yoshi: train with him in his monastery and become adept in the ways of the sword. With little left to do, Yoshi decided to go and train at Tsurugi's monastery.

Four years later, Yoshi had become proficient enough with a sword that he wouldn't harm himself with it when he swung with it. After spending enough time with Tsurugi, a person he now called Master, he learned that even he had his quirks. Tsurugi tended to make jokes often, which required Yoshi to steel himself to withstand his onslaught of comedy. After a time of building up a durability to his jokes, Yoshi found that he found nothing funny at all. Over the four years he'd been at the monastery, his training consisted of sword training, weights, running, breath exercises, and various other training routines.

Over the next two years, Yoshi began to grow to extraordinary heights. The main room of Tsurugi's monastery was large enough for Yoshi to stand in, but most of the rooms he had to stoop over to be able to stand in them. The rigorous leg training began to take its toll on his legs, causing great stress which caused him to only be able to walk with a decreased mobility speed. He hardly ever talked, even to Tsurugi. When he did, it was most often with hand gestures, and less frequently with his own voice. Over the next two years, much of his training procedures remained the same, although each procedure had minor alterations to make each one more rigorous once he was able to endure its practice.

By the age of twenty, Tsurugi called Yoshi into the main hall of his monastery. Yoshi entered, and seated himself. Tsurugi began to speak of how he first saw Yoshi as a hooligan, or some childish thug, but was greatly impressed of how well he matured over the last eight years. Tsurugi had been keep a close eye on Yoshi's progress, and believed he was ready for the next step of his training. It was one thing for a warrior to be one with his body, but it is another to be one with your mind and soul. It was then that Tsurugi brought out from behind him a helmet that he called a NerveGear. He instructed Yoshi to wear it and play a game called Sword Art Online. At first, Yoshi was skeptical. He thought this was another of Tsurugi's jokes. Tsurugi then explained the machine's functionality. Knowing the next part of his training and now understanding how the NerveGear worked, Yoshi took the helmet and put it on. Yoshi nodded, and without hesitation, turned on the NerveGear.

Personality

Yoshi is a gentle person due to his size despite the fact that he walks the warrior's path. When he's outside combat, he tries as best he can to be careful with fragile things and people, although his found that he's forced himself to give fragile things more care when handling them. He takes care to mind his step as to not hurt or break anything that might possibly be underneath him, and will make sure to punish himself every moment he is not aware of himself. Yoshi is a warrior that will achieve his strength naturally, rather than take shortcuts to get what he wants. In short, he wants the satisfaction of accomplishment. He will accept any challenge so long as it is a fair fight. As a warrior, die by the blade, if at all. Yoshi can keep a level head, especially when faced with the most troubling of times. His most preferred way of relaxing is by bird watching, which usually entails him being at the center of the birds. Often times he'll walk around with a bird or two roosting on his shoulder. Due to his great size, his cautious nature, and stress from Tsurugi's training, Yoshi has been reduced to walking a slow walking speed, which can cause a delay for others. Yoshi believes the size of his body to be a burden at times. When he enters rooms that are too short for him, he has to stoop down, or his knees, almost reach over his head when he sits. The only plus is that his large hands can palm a basketball, but that isn't much. After spending time at Tsurugi's monastery, Yoshi grew extensively more and more quiet, to the point where he almost wasn't speaking at all. When Tsurugi tried to speak to him, most of the time all he'd get were hand gestures, which Tsurugi quickly learned. Unless Yoshi is speaking through gestures, he will remain utterly silent.

Virtues:

Gentle - Due to his size, Yoshi has found himself being more careful with fragile things than other people. He takes extra care with them and minds his step at every moment. If there is ever a moment he is ever not careful, he is to make sure there is penance.

Honorable - Yoshi is a warrior that will achieve strength through any means so long as they aren't any unnatural ones. He is willing to accept any challenge, but will not accept a challenge that is not stacked evenly. The wishes to die is by the blade.

Calm - Yoshi is able to keep a level head, even in the face of adversity. He calms himself with bird watching, often times being at the center of the birds' roosting. Often times he will walk around with a bird or two for the sake of serenity.

Flaws:
Slow (not related to combat)- Yoshi's great size and cautious nature cause him to move slowly. His reaction time is unaffected, but he cannot move as quickly as others. His training put stress on his legs, causing him to only be able to walk at a low speed.

Large body - Yoshi finds the size of his body to be a burden at times. He's so tall that he has to stoop down to be able to enter some rooms. His hands are so large that he can palm a basketball, and he swears he's nearly tall enough that his knees are going over his head when he sits.

(Near) Silent - Yoshi doesn't like to speak unnecessarily. This proves to put him at a disadvantage at times when assisting or being assisted by others. He will mostly communicate through hand gestures, but otherwise will remain utterly silent.
