[F1-SP] Time to get started. <<Earning a Living>>

Recommended Posts

Moving around the town, Eibon looked about and decided he had to start somewhere. With a quick thought, he decided to start by getting a job. Speaking with merchants and others, he decided his best bet would be to become an Alchemist. Seeking one out, Eibon made his way to a small shop in the Town of Beginnings. Opening the door, he made his way through it and found an old spindly man running about his shop, grabbing bottles of liquids and powders, chunks of roots, clippings of herbs, and pieces of random substances. With the items, he ran and began mixing the dry items within a mortar and pestle, then began grinding them into a fine powder. With the liquids, he began pouring them into flasks, connecting glass tops with drippers hanging from them. Placing the flasks on small oil burners, the old Alchemist let the liquids head up, then cool so the evaporated liquid reforms as droplets within the glass drippers, flowing down into an open bottle that rested over it's own flame. As this happened, the old man began to scoop the powder into the bottle, allowing it to mix and dissolve in the heated liquid again.

Keeping quiet, Eibon watched as the bottle of liquid and powder mix was moved and stirred together. As the liquid cooled, it turned into a thick red substance. Corking the bottle, the old man set it on a shelf and took a small paper tag and wrote the words "Health Potion" upon the tag, then tied it to the neck of the bottle with a thin piece of twine. After waiting patiently, Eibon cleared his throat slightly. "Hello sir. My name is Eibon. I came to learn to be an alchemist."

The old man brushed his fingers through wispy white beard hairs that clung to his chin. A bushy brow raised in suspicion, and then lowered and he nodded his head. With a slight mutter, the old man then reached behind the counter and grabbed a small book. Bringing it forward, he laid it on the table and opened it. "If you wish to be my apprentice, I require you to collect a list of materials. With them, I will show you how to create potions and philtres, crystals and powders. Here, I will write the items down on this, go out and search for them, bring them back, then we will begin to teach you the secrets of an Alchemist." With a scrap of paper in his hand, the old man shoved it in Eibon's hands and then directed him out. Standing in the streets of the Town of Beginnings, Eibon headed out of town. Taking his time, he made his way trough the grasslands and kept to a crouch. Moving quickly through the brush and tall grasses, Eibon made good time away from the safezone and into the grasslands of Floor 1.

Moving along, Eibon came close to a large tree. About the trunk of the tree, small beds of mushrooms sprouted from the soil. Looking at them all, Eibon then looked at his list and saw a type of toadstool on it. Deciding that this was as good a place as ever, he began combing through the mushroom rings for the toadstool he needed. Some were small, some large, some flat and thin, some round and fat. looking over the different caps, he noticed some were brown with yellow spots, some red with white, some brown with small black speckles, some with plain white caps. None of these were the ones he needed. Searching a new set of rings on the north side of the tree, Eibon found a small set of mushrooms, no larger than the width of his thumb. Grabbing one, he inspected it. The green cap of the mushroom was speckled with yellow and brown. It matched what he needed. Snagging it, he placed it in a small pouch he carried at his side.

Moving on, Eibon made his way down into a valley and began to search for more items. His eyes scanned left and right, occasionally stooping down to dig through the grass and soil. His fingers probed every inch of ground for anything on his list. Having heard the horrors of fighting alone against mobs, he would take the searching approach and not bother with any animals. Moving along he continued to scour the ground, but nothing was found. Sighing, he stood straight and began creeping along once more towards an old river bed. He figured something must be growing there and prayed he was right.

Sliding down into the dry river bed, Eibon moved about with his hands prodding at rocks and chunks of roots. Checking his list, he found an item that was noted as growing near old streams and dried lakes. A cluster of hanging roots the color of rust. It was rumored these roots took hold and sucked the water from the rivers or lakes, draining them and making the roots fat and enriched with minerals. Digging around, the most he found was clumps of brown, dirt covered roots that were brown or white. Moving up the river bed, where the flow of water would have come, Eibon smiled as he saw a large cluster of roots that matched the description of what he sought. Kneeling down, he prodded the root with one finger. It was hard, but felt almost moist to the touch. Taking his axe from his hip, he used it to strike the root at it's base, cutting it free of whatever hidden plant it connected to. Wrapping it softly in cloth, Eibon slid it into the pouch with the other item he had found.

Climbing from the dried river bed, Eibon moved along down the valley and towards a small copse of trees he saw. He needed a type of moss found on the backs of trees. As he moved along, he kept an eye out for anything else of interest or use. Seeing groups of players moving along and searching for wild mobs, Eibon kept himself away so that he did not run into anything. With a sigh, Eibon reached the copse and began to search. The trunks of the trees were almost as wide as he was tall. It would take time for him to scour all of the trees, nearly 20 in total, and try to find this moss on their ancient bark. Searching the first one with care, Eibon found nothing of what he sought. With a sigh, he began to move on to the next trunk.

Having come to the next tree, Eibon bagan to scour it's trunk. With a grumble he prodded at every knot, every hole in the tree, every piece of warped bark he could for the moss. Finding nothing, he knelt down and began to feel around the roots. He hoped that some of the moss had started lower where the moist earth touched the tree, but he found naught but mud as he made his way around the trunk once more. With a sigh, Eibon leaned against the tree and rested his head on it's bark. Looking at the sky above him, he smiled and thought about his life up til now. Shaking the thoughts from his head, he decided to try deeper into the copse and find a tree in the middle. 'Maybe the older trees were closer to the center?' he thought. With that, Eibon stood and began heading towards the center.

Walking around the large monstrous trees, Eibon finally came to what he judged to be the center of the copse. One large tree, almost 2 times as wide as the others, sat in with old brown and mottled bark. It's branches reached towards the sky as if hands reaching towards a parent. The thick boughs were as round as a mans leg and covered in smaller branches the width of 2 fingers. Large leaves hung from these, their shape almost star like, and their colors a deep emerald green. Eibon knelt down and began scouring the trunk for the moss. It's bark was cool to the touch, and traces of moisture could be felt along the bottom near the soil. As he came around the north of the tree, he saw that the trunk was covered in large patches of the greenish yellow moss he sought. It was soft to the touch and had a slight resistance to prodding, but with enough force a finger could break through to the bark beneath. Taking a bit of cloth, Eibon broke a chunk of the moss covered bark from the tree and then wrapped it gently and placed it in his pouch.

Moving from the copse of trees, Eibon began to move towards a small range of hills. Here he hoped to find a particular flower noted on his list. Following a worn path towards the hills, Eibon kept himself alert for any danger. Thankfully, most of the mobs in the area had already been dealt with by other players seeking materials and experience, and it would be some time before a mob respawned. Not one for chancing these things, Eibon still quickened his pace and made his way towards his destination. Reaching it, Eibon found himself at the foot of a large range of hills. Their slopes were green with verdant grasses, and the incline was nothing to worry about as a person could climb them with ease and be barely winded upon reaching the top. Many flowers dotted the hills, and Eibon was happy to see this. Moving up a small incline, he began to examine the flowers for the one he sought, but after an hour on the first hill, came up empty handed. He had many more to go, and he saw varied clusters of flowers dotting the green surface of the hills. Moving carefully, Eibon made his way to the next hill.

Moving along the hill, he came to the next one. Kneeling down at the first bunch of flowers, Eibon began to search them, looking at their petals, stems, and roots. Finding nothing, he moved on to the next set of flowers, repeating the search. Each bunch took nearly 10 minutes to search through, and he was making sure to examine and even double examine the flowers for the one he sought. As he searched, he would occasionally stop and rest his hands on his lap, taking deep breathes and smelling the armoatics around him. When he was finished resting, Eibon would move on to the next bunch and begin searching them. After another hour, he once more came up empty handed after scouring another hill. Moving to the next, he hoped for better luck.

Spending time looking for a flower gave Eibon the change to watch the land below him as he rested. Small groups of players were scattered about. From the distance he was at, they looked like ants scurrying about. Watching them, Eibon noticed they all moved about with quick paces, some stopped around a small group of mobs. After resting, Eibon began to search the hill he was on. Looking along the dozens of flowers bunched in spaced congregations, Eibon searched for the one he needed. he would scour these hills all day, or even all week if needed. His hands grasped petals and stems, turning them gently so as not to break or tear them. His fingers felt the soil and moved some aside, bring tiny roots to the surface, then he would bury them again. He was having ill luck, and he knew it would be even worse should he try anything so foolish as to face a mob. With another hour down, Eibon moved to the next hill.

Once more Eibon began his search of a new hill. He needed this flower and would not leave til he got it. With pace slightly quickened, Eibon began to check the flowers quicker, but still remaining gentle with them to not harm them. As he moved, he kept his fingers checking flower after flower, his body going into a muscle memory trance. His mind, however, stayed sharp and he kept his ears open for any noise that did not belong around him. The closest set of players were nearly a mile out, and the sounds of steel and tusk was but a soft chime on the wind to him. The only footsteps and ruffling of grass and roots was himself. He would not be caught unaware, nor would anyone sneak up to him with ease. After shortening the search time from one hour to 45 minutes, Eibon came up empty handed again and moved on to the next hill.

With fingers searching, eyes scanning, and ears strained to hear anything, Eibon moved along the next hill quickly. He was afraid he would not find this flower and that he would be left empty handed. Moving along the many flowers, he scanned each of them and found them all to be not what he needed. Frustration was welling in him, and he wanted to be done with searching these hills, but he knew he needed to learn patience and to be calm. Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm himself and then moved on. His hands continued to search and he moved through the flowers along the hill he was on. After exhausting it's flowers, he then began to head to the next one.

With another hill down, Eibon sat down and began to rest. Laying with his head on his arms, he stared at the clouds and counted them. The blue skies over the grasslands were beautiful, and reminded him of his home. He missed the mountains that surrounded his home, their large peaks covered in flora. People thought the mountains strange. Their content was mostly dirt, rock, and green grasses and bushes, but from a distance, the mountains looked blue. Many thought this a trick of the mind, or strange omens to the older, more superstitious folk, but in truth, it was the moisture in the air reflecting the sky and refracting the natural colors back, much like water in a lake did. With a smile, Ebon stood and began searching the next hill, but after 45 minutes, came up empty.

Moving along to the next slope, Eibon began to search the flowers he found. His fingers were becoming sore, and his mind was filled with doubt and frustration. As he came to a small bunch of flowers, Eibon noticed one that was unlike any he had seen yet. it's stem was thin and wiry, tipped with a large bulbous bud that had opened into a bloom. The petals of the flower were a deep violet color, with streaks of red and gold along the edges. Looking at the notes he had, it matched what he sought. With a prayer of thanks, Eibon gently unearthed the roots and then put the flower into his pouch carefully. With that item down, he had a few left and then could return to the old man. Looking to the sky, Eibon realized it was midday, and he had some time left before dark. Choosing his next item, Eibon moved down the hill and then began to jog in the direction he figured he needed to go.

Moving on, Eibon made his way towards a large alcove cut into the side of a mountain. Within it was rumored that a bunch of crystalized minerals were found. Head in, Eibon found the alcove to be dimly lit from the sun streaming in from outside. Going in, he began to move rocks and small stones, looking for any of the crystals. Working quickly, he moved and examined where the sun was streaming in, with a hope he did not have to venture deeper. As he searched, he occasionally found what he thought was the crystal, but was just polished rocks. Sighing, Eibon tossed them aside each time and moved about further into the alcove.

moving along with his hands feeling around the ground and examining the small rocks and with his fingers. Each one was not the one he needed, so he tossed them aside. Turning rocks over he sought for the crystal in the small crevices for anything. With a sigh, he began to to go slightly deeper into the darkened side of the alcove. With a grumble he kept looking around and turning over stone after stone. Once more, Eibon took a deep breath to relax himself once more. Moving deeper into the alcove, he grumbled, not wanting to leave the full light of the sun.

Moving along the ground, Eibon continued to dig around the rocks and in the small crevices he could. his fingers grabbed rocks and turned the over, then discarded them. He muttered as he went, making small piles of discarded rocks and debris. His fingers became dirty and covered in soil and mud. Moving about deeper, it became harder to see and he had to squint hard to see the rocks he picked up. Worry touched his face for a moment as the thought that he had found a crystal and tossed it aside in the dim light. With a sigh, he debated going back and rechecking, but knew he didnt have time.

Moving along into the darkness, Eibon was fully submerged and could no longer see. He had to turn about and check the rocks behind him to see if they were the one he sought or not. As he did, he grumbled as he knew it was costing him time. He kept searching and then tossing the rocks aside. his fingers were sore from digging into the dirt and rocks, but he pushed on. After a bit of searching, he decided to feel along the walls for any that may have fell. he brushed many stones and chunks of rock, but none were what he sought.

As he felt along the walls, Eibon felt sharp jagged edges cut against his fingers, leaving small gashes on his fingers and hands. Wanting to be done, he prayed that he would find anything. He kept feeling around the ground and near the walls for atleast one of the crystals. Failing, he finally dove deeper into the darkness, now relying on his hands the most. His fingers scrabbled along the ground and walls, feeling the rocks and then tossing them into the light where he could see them. He once more was not finding anything.
