Pre-SAO Life/Present

Analytical is one word that comes to mind when describing Kuruh. Even at a very young age he had always expressed a limitless sense of curiosity about the world he lived in. He was born as an only child to a middle class family in a small town, but despite not having any siblings he never really found himself feeling lonely. In fact, the solitude was a good thing in his eyes. It allowed him more time to be left with his thought and helped bolster his imagination. As a young boy, most afternoons were spent going on grand adventures in the backyard to fictional lands. His thoughts remained just as strong throughout his school years and were partially the reason why he excelled in many of his classes. The desire to learn was strong and each subject would provide a new gateway to other possibilities for obtaining knowledge. As far as friendships went, he wasn’t the most popular guy around and instead enjoyed keeping to himself while also having a small group of friends around that he had formed in elementary school.

One of Kuruh’s favorite activities is gaming with MMORPGs being at the top of the list. The way one could be the center of a fantastic story the games presented made him happy and served as a type of escape from the boring routines of everyday life. When SAO was announced you probably could have guessed he would be one of the few lucky souls to receive a copy.

Being trapped in SAO never really occurred to him as a bad thing. Who wouldn’t want to live in a game? For the most part he has spent his time hanging around the first floor and only recently has he decided to start moving outside the starting city. He has little interest in actually clearing the game though and instead wants to explore all that Aincrad has to offer while going by the name Lost.

Virtues

  1. Great Analyst and Abstract Thinker – Kuruh views the world as a big, complex machine, and recognizes that as with any machine, all parts are interrelated. He excels in analyzing these connections, seeing how seemingly unrelated factors tie in with each other in ways that bewilder most others. Naturally he enjoys solving puzzles and looking for answers to all things.
  2. Imaginative and Original – These connections are the product of an unrelenting imagination – His ideas may seem counter-intuitive at a glance, and may never even see the light of day, but they will always prove to be remarkable innovations. In real life and in the game he allows his imagination to run free and for the most part it works to his advantage as who goes about day to day life. Embracing the unknown by trying to fill in the gaps with his own thoughts is how he survives each day.
  3. Open-Minded – He couldn't make connections if he thought he knew it all – he's highly receptive to alternate theories, so long as they're supported by logic and facts. In more subjective matters like social norms and traditions, he's usually fairly liberal, with a "none of my business" sort of attitude – peoples' ideas are what matter.
  4. Enthusiastic – When a new idea piques his interest, Kuruh can be very enthusiastic –  he has a reserved personality, but if another person shares an interest, he can be downright excited about discussing it. More likely though, the only outward evidence of this enthusiasm will be his silent pacing or his staring into the distance. While he may seem calm and collected on the outside he could be bursting on the inside with enthusiasm as he lets his thoughts wander to new places.
  5. Objective –  His analysis, creativity and open-mindedness aren't the tools of some quest for ideology or emotional validation. Rather, it's as though he serves as a conduit for the truths around him, so far as his thoughts can be expressed, and he's proud of this role as theoretical mediator. He seeks to understand the things he encounters in life and he won't allow his emotions to cloud his judgement.
  6. Honest and Straightforward – To know one thing and say another would be terribly disingenuous – he doesn't often go around intentionally hurting feelings, but he believes that the truth is the most important factor, and he expects that to be appreciated and reciprocated. In the grand scheme of things, he feels that the truth is always best. The phrase "ignorance is bliss" isn't one he stands by as it advocates living ones life as a lie is a good thing. He also isn't afraid to speak his mind to anyone's face, or at least try to anyway.

Flaws

  1. Very Private and Withdrawn – While his intellectualism yields many insights into his surroundings, his surroundings are ironically considered an intrusion on his thoughts. This is especially true with people – he's quite shy in social settings. More complicated situations such as parties exacerbate this, but even close friends struggle to get into Kuruh's heart and mind. This is one of the major reason why he usually tends to remain aloof whenever he's able to.
  2. Insensitive – From his perspective, other people's emotions don't mean much when interacting with them. Oftentimes Kuruh gets so caught up in his own logic that he forgets any kind of emotional consideration – he dismisses subjectivity as irrational and tradition as an attempt to bar much-needed progress. Purely emotional situations are often utterly puzzling to him, and the lack of timely sympathy can easily offend others. Still, he'll say what's on his mind regardless of whether it hurts other people or not.
  3. Absent-minded – When his interest is captured, his absence goes beyond social matters to include the rest of the physical world. All of his energy will be channeled toward whatever it is that has his attention and as a result Kuruh becomes forgetful, missing even the obvious if it's unrelated to the current infatuation, and can even forget his own health, skipping meals and sleep as he muses. Most times he's not even aware of his forgetfulness and what feels like a few minutes could really be hours as he muses.
  4. Condescending – Attempts at connecting with others are often worse than his withdrawal. Kuruh often takes pride in his knowledge and rationale, and enjoys sharing his ideas, but in trying to explain how he got from A to B to Z, he can get frustrated, sometimes simplifying things to the point of insult as he struggles to gauge the conversation partners' perspective. The ultimate insult comes as he gives up with a dismissive "never mind". Avoiding conversation altogether is preferred if applicable as it saves everyone one less headache.
  5. Loathes Rules and Guidelines – These social struggles are partly a product of his desire to bypass the rules, of social conduct and otherwise. While this attitude helps Kuruh's strength of unconventional creativity, it also causes him to reinvent the wheel constantly and to shun security in favor of autonomy in ways that can compromise both. Regardless, he'd much rather go through the entire game solo if he could rather than join a guild for any extended period of time.
  6. Second-Guesses Himself – He remains so open to new information that he often never commits to a decision at all. This applies to his own skills as well – Kuruh knows that as he practices, he improves, and any work he does is second-best to what he could do. Unable to settle for this, he sometimes delays his output indefinitely with constant revisions, sometimes even quitting before he ever begins. He never seeks to be placed in positions of leadership because of this as he feels his ideas shouldn't place others at risk.
