[SP-F4] Doing what Shinra Corp couldn't <Avalanche> [Complete]

Recommended Posts

Kalesh stretched out a bit as he decided that he would be taking this lower level quest for a little bit of EXP and the potion that it granted for completion. He wasn't sure the potion would be heavily useful but it wouldn't hurt him to have it in either case. He figured that the worst case scenario would be that he would end up with a potion rotting in his inventory. That was a very common thing for him, he always had been an RPG hoarder for such things. "Better safe than sorry..." He told himself a lot of the time, even though it doubled as an argument for him to use items as much as possible In the end he knew he was conflicted about such things. Before he would head out after the field boss he decided he should get himself warmed up with some hot chocolate or something so that he didn't feel like he would fall over as an icicle even with his survival skill. With that thought in mind he turned his attention towards a nearby tavern and walked inside for something to help fill the void in his belly and to heat his entire body for the trip ahead. Comfort was just as important as efficiency in his mind.

Feeling the fireplace warmed air of the tavern against his pale skin Kalesh was immediately relaxed. He took a deep breath through his nose to enjoy the smells of food an alcohol while working his way towards an empty seat. A little while later an NPC in modest clothes for a tavern, likely due to the temperature, approached the crimson haired player and spoke. "Welcome! May I take your order sir?" Asked the female AI in a voice simulating cheerfulness. Despite being aware of what it was he found himself smiling back and being polite. "Yes, could I get some hot chocolate..." He soon realized he was a bit hungry and so continued before she went off "And some chicken breast, sauced ribs, along with fries." He waited for whatever internal timers in the AI decided it had waited long enough to trigger and soon it said "Very good, I'll be back with your food soon!" Kalesh nodded back to the NPC when it finished speaking and watched it walk off. Realistically he knew he had no reason to wait, but this was an RPG so he couldn't deny that he appreciated the effort.

After a few minutes of waiting the simulated human returned with a plate containing all of his food as well as a mug of hot chocolate. When it was set down in front of him he smiled and rubbed his fingers together greedily before thanking the waitress and started to dig into his meal. The first thing he did was try a fry to confirm their quality. Nodding in approval he took a bite of the chicken to taste the spices and softness of the meat. It was also good. Third he grabbed two of the bones in the ribs and pulled to separate them, nibbling up the meat that hung off the now separated rib and smiling as the sauce was sweet but not overwhelmingly so! So far he was enjoying his meal from a sample point of view and sipped his hot chocolate, nodding happily at the heat and sweetness as he gulped his mouthful and set the cup back down. He didn't know who was involved in making food taste the way it did, but he was eternally thankful for their hard work and the power of their palette in deciding what flavors to go with. Truly he was a saint that deserved his own line in the credits for having such good taste!

All reservation in consuming his meal was now lost, he focused not on the world around him, but instead on the feast in front of him. He tore meat from bone, licked his fingers, and just generally pigged out on his meal. When the hot cooked food was reduced to nothing more than a graveyard of bones and crumbs, and his drink made only a hit of powdered cocoa stuck to the bottom, he sat back in his seat and stretched out with a an overly satisfied look on his face. It was at this point he opted to pay for the meal, going through his menus and materializing some coins before setting them down on the table. With that good and done he pushed himself onto his legs and headed to exit the shop and continue on actually finding and killing the hidden monster called Avalanche.

Once he had exited the tavern the chill of the air became all the more apparent to him. He shrugged his shoulders however, not particularly minding it, especially when his body was being such a furnace for him at the moment! The food warmed him as well as the presumed digestion and other factors. Whatever the case he felt comfy with the cold and turned his attention towards the nearest exit into the wilderness. Walking through the snowy streets and passing out of the safezone he looked to his map while trying to recollect the direction he was supposed to go. He knew that to help Avalanche spawn he would likely need to kill several Ice Elementals like the information broker recommended to him. He didn't think it would take an insane amount of effort. If that held up to be the truth or not was up in the air unfortunately!

Setting out into the icey show covered lands the crimson haired player walked towards the direction of his intuition. He couldn't say for sure if the direction he was going would lead him to his prey or not but it would be fun to find out regardless. Worst case scenario in his mind was to wander the snow filled wonderland in a big  circle! It seemed however he was going to be saved the trouble! He saw what he assumed was an ice elemental in the distance, a golem-like creature with a snowy aura. Not about to look a gift horse in the mouth Kalesh makes a run at the creature with his new claws equipped and at the ready! Like a knife through butter Kalesh felt his claws go through the monster's icy exterior while he lunged forward! Three stabs into various points on its body later he saw the monster shatter. Being greeted with a reward Kalesh smiled to himself as he figured they could prove to be decent for farming until Avalanche showed himself.

Having dispatched the monster with relative ease Kalesh looked down at his claws, clenching his hand into a fist a few times as he continued to try and get used to the length of the weapon. He sighed softly but turned his attention towards finding a new monster to kill. They weren't a perfect representation of his ideal weapon, but these claws would certainly get him far until he is ready to replace them. As far as damage went they couldn't be beat by any other claw weapons unless a critical hit or something of the sort was achieved and status effects were out the whazoo. Having gotten lost in thought Kalesh half-slipped on some hidden ice under the snow, almost falling over but catching himself in time as he sighed softly and tried to focus back up.

After his minor slip up Kalesh refocused himself and continued his search. He didn't know how many elementals he needed to kill, but the broker described them as having been 'farmed' until the boss appeared, so he was betting more than two or three. He himself didn't mind as it only meant profit and success in his mind, with very little if any negative side effects. He did figure to himself though that he would need to take a break once Avalanche did spawn and make sure he had the energy to actually defeat the monster in question. The last thing he wanted was to just sit around and get smacked at until his energy recovered. Soon he sighted the second elelemental and did much the same thing to it as he had done to its sibling, slicing it asunder with his clawed fingers until it was destroyed and rewarded him for the effort and attention.

With the death of his second elemental Kalesh began searching for a third. His eyes scanned the horizons and soon he did find his mark. It may have just been a stepping stone to the true threat but he was willing to grant it his full attention as if it were the boss himself. He gained little from taking things without a hint of seriousness. He didn't want to somehow get whittled down to the point he wouldn't be able to beat the field boss! With his fingers held straight like his hand was a blade he begins cutting at the monster's joints, watching them slice clean off before removing the elementa's head and sealing its fate! With more rewards and EXP funneling into his account he looked down at himself and silently confirmed to himself that he could use different armor for different situations. His current situation was great but he certainly felt it could be made better with a little work. Evasion was fun and all, but it wasn't a perfect fix for all situations.

He was on a roll, moments after the third elemental had shattered he had spotted his fourth! He figured to an outsider he was becoming a broken record as far as strategy went, but that was the nature of farming more or less. You keep doing what works over and over until you reach your quota! His quota was a boss, but he had to admit he was getting winded. After slicing the elemental entirely apart he concluded that for the next little while he was going to avoid combat and just gather around so that he wouldn't bite off more than he could chew. Keeping himself progressing was the best strategy in keeping him from getting himself killed and he knew it. Eager was on word to describe him he liked to think to himself whether it was true or not.

Kalesh took a deep breath as he kept his limbs moving ever forward. Despite moving at a slow pace he was trying to keep warm by constant movement. He didn't know if the player body could be frozen into a block of ice and survive, but he was not willing to discover if that was true or false as he very much both liked being alive and had zero desire to be imprisoned again no matter the reason or situation. He would have liked to tuck his hands into his pockets but that wasn't much of an option right now, at least the weapon around his hand was providing protection from the ice cold wind. He kept his fingers moving to make sure that they didn't start slowing or locking up from the cold.

His eyes scanned the horizons while confirming he wasn't about to be attacked by any monsters. He was sure he'd survive any encounters but it would be inconvenient and annoying. Things going to plan was vastly preferred, even if the plan was slow and methodical. He let out a sigh intentionally to watch his breath leave his body with a smile before turning his eyes to the ground for any signs of items hidden in the tundra. If he could find anything salvageable in or under the snow. He wasn't confident in his chances if he was entirely honest, but he still liked to look and fail than never look and guarantee he would never succeed.

He inhaled deeply through his nose as he felt the invisible timer for his body's recover triggered and his energy returned to full. His limbs instantly felt lighter and his stamina was returned. He wished that resting in the real world was so easy and efficient, but he wasn't about to start complaining one way or another. Instead his mind was focused back onto the reason he had come out here to start with, the dead of elementals as well as the alpha of their kind. All he had to do was keep killing and eventually the big boss himself would spawn and the outing could be brought to an end. He preferred warmth to cold in most cases, so a chance to go to a more accommodating floor wouldn't be frowned on by a player such as him.

With his energy back to full he took off into a run, making up for lost time created by his energy running low. He was determined to catch himself another monster and his wish was soon granted as in the distance he saw an ice elemental all on its lonesome much like its family that he had been picking off one after the other. If he had a weapon with more reach he would probably be trying to get them grouped up, but as things stood currently it wasn't an option he had available. His only sword art with an area of effect wouldn't even scratch monsters of this level! Strategic evaluations completed he closed the distance and assaulted the ice elemental with four clawed stabs before it was destroyed, Kalesh looking around as if hoping to see the big boss himself.

Another elemental, another kill. He didn't know if he was just being lucky or if he was just that much stronger now, but every enemy he cam across was being wiped out with impunity and ease! He was starting to build up a semi-decent stash of materials from the kills, and even some spare pocket change for later. As things stood currently however, he still had more to gain so he wasn't going to consider his current tally as his last. He still had more elementals to slay before the boss would grace Kalesh with its presence and then its death inevitably. There wasn't an ounce of fear in Kalesh's soul, he was all but certain that he'd defeat the boss and leave victorious!

Kalesh ran through the snowy fields once more, tracking down yet another elemental and slicing it into icecubes, chuckling to himself as he left it a pile of ice before it shattered and gave him its materials and money. He almost felt like a bully, coming into their home and taking their stuff, but he had long since been desensitized to it from years of RPG play. In either scenario he had more pressing matters. In the distance he could make out the visage of a far larger elemental than any of the ones he had battled up until now, it looked to be taller than him unlike the weaker ones he had been killing up until this point! He was slightly torn, run in and get it dead, or rest and get his energy back.

Before too long he concluded to himself it would be wiser to wait until his energy had regenerated to the point he could fight Avalanche one on one at full strength. With that in mind he slowly circled around the creature, partly to make sure no enemies or other players would interrupt their battle when he was ready, marking his territory essentially, as well as combing the area for anything he could keep for later~! One could never have too many materials in a game like this where things were quite literally a matter of life or death. Skipping an ore vein over just because you feel lazy could lead to death three days later and all you gained were maybe thirty seconds.

While circling slowly towards the monster he concluded the that monster might have been maybe three heads taller than him. It made the creature immediately appear more intimidating, having an air of danger just by size. That said, he couldn't help but smile as he mentally confirmed himself the truth of the situation. Regardless of size, the creature had a set amount of damage it could sustain. Despite it's size, the monster had a set amount of damage it could deal. It was data, it was absolute values, and a man half Kalesh's height would have equal issues and equal success in a clash of wills against this creature.

Once again that familiar feeling of renewal filled his virtual body, giving him his energy reserves back in their entirety and granting him the chance he had been waiting for to close the distance with the monster and get it to aggro him properly. Kalesh took a deep breath as he got closer by the footprint to the massive creature of ice and snow. He was ready on the inside, but whether or not he was physically ready was going to be another matter when his claws were to begin digging into the monster's virtual body. Thanks to the lowness of the floor Kalesh felt very little if any threat however from the soon to be ice sculpture turned disaster.

Avalanche turned to face Kalesh, he knew that was the point of no return. By now the monster was without a doubt aggroed to him. A toothy grin forms on Kalesh's face as the monster began a charge at him, and Kalesh continued his own approach as well. He noticed the golem raising its right club-like arm formed of ice, the move easy enough for Kalesh to predict. With a side-ways hop the Avalanche's attack hit where Kalesh had once been, missing him entirely. Kalesh on the other hand spun on his heel and towards the now land-bound arm! With a flurry of fast-paced stabs  that practically turned the limb into swiss cheese Kalesh reduced the monster to only the barest amount of hitpoints. "O-oh my god, really?!" He was almost in hysterical laughter at seeing the monster barely able to survive a full-power combo from Kalesh, hanging on by a sliver of red and little else.
