Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2016 So here he was. Floor one. This floor was actually the most annoying for Itzal. Floor 2 had the crystal cavern, and floor 3 had the perfect place for his shop. This floor? It had nothing to offer him other than the forest which produced nothing but bad luck for him, as well as wolves whom he had constant issues against. But this time. This time would be different. Itzal would beat them all. He didn't want revenge, he just wanted to finally best them all. Technically having survived them should have been enough, but he had done so out of rage. He was using this opportunity to practice fighting without anger, keeping Ulises in check. He had spoken to Ulises not long before in his realm which had changed dramatically. Instead of a flat obsidian ground with a black sky and a cruel red sun, it looked a lot like a hill and mountainous land with dark green grass and trees with silver leaves. The sky was night with stars all across the sky. He only entered the realm to talk with Ulises in the daytime and Ulises said it was more magnificent at night. Itzal was able to enter his alternate personality's realm by going into a meditation state he learned while completing the quest calming the mind. Where he also met Ulises face to face for the first time. He told Ulises that he had to practice ignoring his anger in battle and Ulises agreed to help by attempting to slip thoughts into his mind. Itzal sighed as he literally began walking to the wolves den. He found where they'd been hiding at long last.
Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #2 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) He walked along the edge of the cliff and stopped when he saw something he didn't expect. Three boar were fighting five wolves. The wolves were attempting to take on one boar at a time, with two wolves keeping the other boar at bay. As Itzal watched the fight he saw that it was going to be close. One of the boar charged past one of the wolves guarding the attacked boar and hit it's fellow boar as well as two out of three wolves, killing all three instantly. The defending wolves lashed at the boar and killed it. With only one boar left it charged recklessly and ruthlessly at the wolves and got one of them but was overcome by the last two. After that Itzal whistled, hoping to get their attention and hate before their reason returned. He was disappointed however when he saw that only one of the wolves hesitated before charging. The other rushed at him and Itzal placed a well aimed kick at the wolf, knocking it onto it's back and swinging Retributor through it as it fell. Let the battle commence. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) The first wolf didn't move and just watched carefully. The wolf Itzal attacked stood slowly and bared it's fangs. Good, it was angry which meant it wouldn't think clearly. But from past experiences, he also knew that it's anger could help it knock him over and he couldn't risk letting the wolf get behind him. Then he'd be ambushed. The wolf charged at him, it's jaws snapping. Itzal noticed a large rock and swung his sword in a general miss so the wolf changed directions instantly, and tripped over the rock. When it landed at Itzal's feet he slashed at it with vertical arc, dealing half it's full health instantly and pulling a yelp from it. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) The wolf had it now and rushed at him with full force. This time the other wolf joined the fray, charging from the side. Itzal saw them both coming and swung his black blade with the horizontal sword art, landing a critical hit and giving both the bleeding effect. Unfortunately that left him open and they both made a deep gash in his sides. After they landed behind him he simply turned to them with his sword in a defensive position. The reason he chose this floor so many times was because he had no fear of dying. When he cleared out the wolf's den however, he intended to move his daily training up a floor. Figured he was ready now. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) The wolves turned and struck faster than Itzal expected, landing another critical hit. He turned around immediately and knocked the more injured wolf out of the way and was about to block the first wolf's attack when he noticed that it just stood growling at him. Only after the bleeding effect damaged it did the wolf charge. Understanding dawned on Itzal. This wolf must have been with a pack he took down. Then he wondered if the wolves in the den all knew who he was. If so this was going to be an interesting day. He blocked the wolf and threw it to the side. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) Both wolves attacked at an alarming speed, preventing him from landing any sort of hit. As their attacks became more perilous he began to take a few steps back, then stepped on a loose rock and lost his footing. After he fell the second wolf leaped at him. He raised his blade to block the attack but it went limp in mid air and shattered as the bleeding effect finished it off. He took a breath right before the first wolf charged at him from the side, low to the ground. He swung his sword downward at him and it dodged him, giving him enough time to get up. This wolf knew what it shouldn't do, but Itzal had become more skilled with the sword and more experienced in fighting. This wolf wasn't a problem. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) The wolf ran at him in a zig zagged pattern and Itzal smiled. He waited and watched the wolf fake a strike at him but turned at the right moment to strike from behind. He released snake bite and slashed behind him, finishing the wolf off. He smiled as the loot menu popped up and accepted the one hundred and ten col. He stretched his back and recognized this place as the cliff near the forest that marked the path he needed to take. He sighed as he looked at the forest which caused his terrible luck. Velnia landed on his shoulder and he nodded to her. "Onwards and excelsior." Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) As they made their way down the forest path he felt like something was wrong. Soon he came to a stop when he saw three wolves blocking his way. The three of them were spread out, one in the center, and to on either side of the road. They glared cautiously at him. Itzal looked at Velnia and she looked a little nervous too. Somehow it seemed more and more wolves knew of his reputation, and seemed to take great caution around him, refusing to do anything reckless. He sighed as he saw he wouldn't be getting a break anytime and whispered a plan to Velnia. She nodded and flew off, the wolves seeing this and one of them chasing after her. As soon as she did Itzal charged and the wolf to the left ran into the woods, planning on attacking from behind him. He didn't worry about that however and simply slashed at the wolf in the center. He was surprised that it didn't move at all and just stood there. Instantly he suspected a trap. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) He turned around and saw the other two wolves strike at him from both ends, knocking him down as they clawed him. When he was down the wolf he had just attacked snapped it's jaw on his shoulder. He grimaced from the strike but it dealt minimum damage despite their surprise critical attack. Again, this is why he fought on this floor originally. He stabbed his sword at the head of the wolf chewing at him and though it backed off quickly his blade managed a scratch, dealing some damage. He then kicked the other wolves away and jumped to his feet, blocking and deflecting the wolves as he did so. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) Itzal continued deflecting the wolves but the faster they attacked the more difficult it became. He felt a wolf scratch his arm, then a moment one scratched his chest. When he was hit on the back legs he growled and made one long slash around him, forcing the wolves to retreat momentarily and giving him a second to breath. They were definitely getting better. He was beginning to question whether this trip was worth it or not. He should just kill this lot and go home. He shook his head as he recognized those thoughts as Ulises and focused on outsmarting these wolves for the moment. Itzal 0 Posted July 29, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) The wolves charged again, once more from both sides but not directly at each other to avoid him dodging and forcing them to collide. He jumped into the air and grabbed a branch, letting them pass each other and he climbed onto the branch just before the wolf's jaws snapped below him. He jumped from branch to branch, one wolf below him at all times and the other two keeping ahead just a little bit. Perfect. He grabbed a good sized branch as he ran and pushed off from the next thick branch he stepped on, backflipping onto the ground. This put some area between he and the wolves. After the landing he threw the branch at the closest wolf, stunning it for a second and the other two charged him. He dodged the attack and slashed at one of them. Things might work out for him after all. He could hear the wolf he hit with the branch recovering as well. He flourished his sword through the air before using the flat end to deflect both of their attacks almost simultaneously, and giving the wolves a good bit of knowledge on his speed and accuracy. All three wolves had fully recovered from his little surprise but did not attack. Instead they all circled around him, seeking any opening for them. He grunted under the assault and tried to return the favor but the last wolf managed to knock him over. He fell to the ground and his sword fell out of his hands. Itzal 0 Posted August 1, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) Itzal slowly sank to the ground leaning against a tree. When he did he realized just how much pain his body was in. He ached all over and his neck felt sore. Velnia landed softly on his shoulder and wrapped her tail and wing around the back of his neck, not triggering any more pain. He was beginning to forget why he even came here. To see if he could do this without anger consuming him? To get revenge? Those two in particular conflicted one another. To get revenge would deny the desire to fight the anger's hold over him. To prevent anger from controlling him would remove the aspect of revenge. He knew he had to practice his hold on Ulises but hadn't he already done that? He was making more and more progress with Ulises, who seemed much more calm and reasonable with each visit. He became more and more calm and when Itzal asked for silence he would be quiet. He rarely whispered negative words to Itzal anymore, save for today of course on which he asked him to. Perhaps in the future they could hold conversations with one another. And seeing as how the nerve gear sensed his every thought, and how Velnia was part of the game, perhaps she could hear him too. Itzal 0 Posted August 1, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted August 1, 2016 Itzal probed the innermost of his consciousness to speak with Ulises, who acknowledged his approach. 'What do you think of my progress thus far?' he asked Ulises. The first reply was a grunt. 'A little pissed that we got squat from all those wolves,' he muttered. 'But otherwise we're doing fine. They got a few hits on us but your level and base armor, plus the fact that these monsters deal pitiful amounts of damage tells me that we won't have much of a problem.' Itzal mentally nodded. 'Then should we continue?' 'That depends on you Felix,' he said. Itzal grudgingly stood up. He had to find this cave and end this. Itzal: 39/44 <> 11/
Itzal 0 Posted August 1, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted August 1, 2016 Itzal made his way along the trail, past the forest and found the huge cliffside where the cave was said to be hidden. He walked closer to the cave and decided that stealth might be the best. Who knows how many wolves could be in there and it would be best to take them little by little. Velnia could be a great help with that. He stuck to the shadows, avoiding the soft light of minor glowing crystals dotting the walls. As he made his way down he thought he heard soft growling once or twice but when he stopped to listen harder the sound stopped. He wasn't sure if it was his imagination or if he should be worried. The deeper he delved into the cave the colder it became. Soon the tunnel opened into a cavern the size of a house. Only the ceiling was lit which confused Itzal. When he made it near the center a flash of light temporarily blinding him. When his vision returned he gasped as he saw he was surrounded by wolves. He looked carefully and saw that the wolves had blocked the light of the crystals to hide themselves. As he observed this the wolves closed the open space between him and his escape. Itzal really became nervous when a large warg, almost one and a half times bigger than Itzal himself strode forward, it's eyes narrowed and murderous. Itzal 0 Posted August 1, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) The wolf stopped in front of Itzal with it's teeth barred. It's fur was thick and it's eyes red. It's claws were huge and looked more like knives than claws. It's tail looked like a moving branch than a wolf's tail. Itzal began to draw Retributor but stopped when each wolf growled and a few placed a claw forward. He realized that any wrong move and his life would end. He was in over his head here. He knew they had a den but had no idea they were this intelligent or had a warg leading them. He let go of the sword and the wolves calmed down, though their teeth were still bared. Itzal noted that the warg hadn't made a move yet. "You want to fight?" The warg nodded. "If I kill you will I be allowed to leave?" The warg growled, making it clear it did not intend to leave Itzal alive. Itzal narrowed his eyes. "Swear it. Howl or bark or something to show to all these wolves that you promise to let me go if I kill you." The warg made a vicious and wrathful bark that almost sounded like a roar. The other wolves looked at each other before returning their attention to the fight. Itzal nodded. "Good." And with that he drew his sword and charged. Itzal: 44/44 <> 11/11 - fully regenerated!
