Real name: Deon Hiraki
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Height: 5ft 8

Appearance:

Deon is half Japanese, quarter black and quarter white. He has a lightly muscular build but it may not be immediately obvious, although the fact he is relatively fit would likely be seen quite quickly. He has short, rough black hair that does not see a comb enough and strangely he has piercing green eyes alongside this. This gives him an intriguing yet somehow mildly dangerous look.

About: History/Personality

History:

Deon was born to a single mother who ran over 5000 miles away from her family in Japan to come to England, London for a life of freedom and choices. She was not, however, a mother before flying away. She was initially to devote her life to the family business in which her younger brother would inherit all of despite her efforts. In exchange she would get family acceptance and an 'easy' life with enough money she wouldn't even have to worry about walking anywhere or using public transport, let alone bills and buying a house. Though as she grew older, she began to hate the idea of being pigeon holed into such a life, in which her family barely paid any attention to her anyway as she was always flown off to boarding schools for years at a time. She had yet to have a conversation with her own parents that lasted for longer than 5 minutes that wasn't about her school studies and how she planned to contribute to the business. So one day she snapped, took everything she owned, which included a fair amount of money, and flew off. She didn't care where, as long as it was miles away from her 'problems', because nowhere could be worse than a home where no one cared resided.

At first this worked out relatively well. She knew a good amount of English from classes, she picked up a job quickly from her grades and got a boyfriend within the year. The problem was, she didn't know what kind of area she lived in, or the kind of 'calibre' of men existed in the world. She simply assumed because he reacted relatively well to the word 'marriage', then he was to stay for the duration. Since that's how it was back at home. All of a sudden she is pregnant, and the man is gone. She had no family to ask for help, and less than a few friends that cared enough to hear the news. She had to learn how to be a parent, and all she had to go off was that she didn't want to be anything like her own parents.

Because of this, Deon grew up in a house with a very inexperienced mum, in an area that was less than a safe environment for a child. Yet at the same time, he was in a household that loved him very much, and one that kept up with the times. This was due to the fact his mum researched everything she knew online, giving her a very modern perspective of parenting. This was largely important, as Deon was in an area where being street smart was almost everything. Being even a quarter black and out with his mates got him being chased by police constantly, even at 13 he was being offered drinks and substances he had yet to learn the names of, and he watched men getting beaten down on the road and others attacked by weapons. You had to know what mates to make, how to keep out of people's way and stay awake at all times. There was never a time he walked and felt safe, even when walking with 10 mates at once, in fact, he feared that would just draw more attention. For Deon to fit in, he did some things far too early, some peer pressured, some heat of the moment. He certainly learnt how to fit in quickly.

Most parents would just scold their child when they were suspicious of their activities, but his mother tried hard to learn about her child. He spent a lot of his early life passively angry at his mum. He would never say anything, but he would curse the fact she was so naive with men, and that she knew nothing about his situation. He felt he had to learn everything himself since she wouldn't do anything to help him, and tried to compensate by buying him expensive gadgets from laptops to games consoles through money from her family. This changed when he was 13 and he brought his friend over. Naturally who his friends would be, this guy looked like a ruffian, he wore the clothes, the hood and he was built for his age. Even at 13 he towered over his mum. Deon expected him to act like every 'middle class' non-black mother would be expected to react. To hate the idea of their son hanging out with 'such' people, and keep well clear of him. But instead, she knocked on the door and walked into his room while they were playing on the console with shaking hands and a nervous smile and offered them fizzy drinks.

Deon realised what was happening. She had tried to find out what kind of drinks 'teenagers' would buy, knocked on the door to make sure they were alright with it and got them a drink. She did all this despite being scared out of her mind of him simply because she didn't understand how young people truly were and only knew the online perception of them.

From then on, he respected her properly, and tried to help her out where he could slowly but surely with chores, shopping and such. But he wasn't on the proper path, he was still all about his brothers, the streets and ‘**** the system’, for lack of a better phrase. The way he was going he would be in a gang and wielding knives just like he had seen others do all hooded up on a bus on the way to someone's house. It was only ‘till he had been jumped in the streets by 3 guys did that change. Getting beats wasn't anything knew to him, although it was the first time it was done to such an extent, as evident across his face and his entire body. This one was because he had been seen chatting to a girl that was someone's girlfriend, which while Deon honestly didn't realise that, he instantly pointed out the mistake to himself when he reflected on why anyone would get on him like that.

Now this wouldn't have stopped Deon. All that would have happened is he would have got into school, his guys would have seen it, and they would have started beating on them until it escalated out of proportion and someone's mother would of been wondering why their son. What changed it all was that Deon's mum came home a little earlier from work than he expected, and she saw everything. She simply looked at him horrified, before pulling him into the tightest hug and started crying her eyes out saying 'I'm sorry' over and over. Deon knew this incident was his fault, but he also knew exactly what she was referring to, and that was his whole situation. He realised that this was the last kind of life of she wanted for him. Seeing the pain in her eyes that night made him truly realise that she not only understood his situation, but entirely blamed herself for landing him in such a place to begin with. Everything he thought she didn’t understand.

From then on he started picking up on things, such as with all the money she spent on him, she never seemed to have anything new. She didn't have a lot of money, she just put it all on him. She also didn't bring any men round, she never even mentioned one to him for his entire life. She had sacrificed for him knowing how naïve she was with men.

After this Deon focused his life on what he knew she would want for him. University, goals, focus. He started putting time into school, his mates knew Deon still had their backs, but he wouldn't be around as much. They knew there was no point asking if Deon wanted to do 'something', since he would only do it if he wanted to. He blocked off all peer pressure, and while he didn't block off his old mates in anyway, he made new friends to reflect this. He would encourage his guys to put pen to paper more but wouldn't push his luck as he knew it was impossible to drop all their ties to the ends in a night. It took him longer than a year to get his new reputation that wouldn’t lead to him getting beaten up.

Thanks to all the games consoles and such his mother bought him, he gained a liking for gaming, and when connecting his interests with University, he ended up with game development. Throughout his life his mum had trickled in Japanese so he had both English and Japanese as languages, so if worst came to worst he would always have a translator as a backup job. In the end it worked out quite well, since Japan's gaming industry was by no means small. He'd even played a few games that were solely in Japanese at first out of curiosity, but then he gained a genuine interest in Japanese culture for their work ethic and entertainment industry.

This made him want to fly out for University to Japan. He managed to pick up a part time job to help achieve this. What he didn't notice was that his mum had been saving for years to help him go to University since he was born. Though after speaking to her about it, while she was glad he had found a passion, she told him she couldn't follow him to Japan, as she didn't want to be anywhere near there even after all these years. He understood but still wanted to go. So, he made his way out to the island to live as a foreign student as a computer games development student in Tokyo.

Naturally, being a computer games developer in training, the idea of SAO had him more than interested. He had completely missed the beta since he was still in the wrong country at the time. It would also be a nice distraction from thinking about how far away he was from home at first, since he had only moved once as a child he was used to living in the same home for long periods of time. So after increased research, he learnt he could be a part of the first thousands of players to play the game and quickly placed an order. Of course, Deon had no idea what he was signing up for, but living in a dangerous world where not even the roads were safe and you could be jumped and killed at any time?

That… wasn't new to him at all.

Personality:

Deon spent the majority of his life being far more of a listener than speaker. To work out a situation he would listen to others and their perception being he would form his own. This meant that for one, he knows how to keep out of trouble and keep himself from escalating a problem even if it means he has to take an angry insult or two. This also made him an analytic of people, as he learnt how to make the most of what people tell him and how to discern the usual information from the opinions. Despite changing his life around, he's a rough guy, and can give off a passive aggressive aura. If someone is trying to disrespect him and he knows almost no repercussions will come from it, he will turn to them. He also speaks like it, with a thick London accent, though its not quite as intrusive in Japanese since he's not as proficient as it as he would be English, but he will talk like a man from the ends in most conversations.

He will keep himself to himself in most situations, and wont lay out his cards. He won’t tell people what he's thinking unless specifically asked and he has good reason to tell them. Though as its the gaming community, he knows people won’t back up their words like they will at home. So it’s likely in situations in SAO, if someone is getting heavily victimised, they either look or act weak and they don't have anyone to help them he will step in since he'll feel like the bigger man. As Deon also knows it’s likely not many people will have actually seen death like him. He likes that about the gaming group since they are much more innocent to what he is used to, but he hates how spineless they can be when someone calls them out for acting up to someone.

Deon is very confident in himself and his path, especially after turning himself around and he won’t be deterred by mere words. He may even be considered quite arrogant in that respect, but since he doesn't speak about himself due to his hometown teaching him to only be humble unless you want to start something, it may not be particularly evident to most people he meets. He has very little time for people who don't have the backs of their friends, and not just verbally. If someone told him they ran and left a friend because they 'feared the fight' he would be the first to call them a fool. He would first teach them his way of thinking, but if they didn't respond he would literally ignore them and distance himself from that person. He would be more lenient on women than men when it comes to physical problems, but if they wouldn't speak out for each other he would still have a massive issue with them.

Virtues:

Fearless - of the game. This is not entirely true as he does fear death like many men. However, he is used to being in life or death situations, he is used to being in situations of mass tension where a fight could break out at any moment which blades. This means he is likely to fear the game a lot less and is unlikely to hesitate much or at all in many instances. This allows him to always be thinking straight in a fight with little worry.

Listener - Deon knows how to listen to others, whether it be their problems or with them simply relaying information to him. He knows how to analyse people’s words and is a decent judge of character because of it. This also means he knows how to ask the right kind of questions to get people to talk or when to literally not talk at all if the situation calls for it. He is not always right in his thought processes after taking in the information but he is more likely to be right than wrong. This also keeps him out of trouble and stops him from causing or escalating heated moments.

Independent - When he sets himself a goal, no one will sway him from that goal. He has his sets of right and wrong for a number of situations and will stay with those. He won’t be belittled or made to feel what he is doing is wrong and he won’t be pressured into a situation. He knows the kinds of roads that one can be lead down if they don't stand for themselves when they need to.

Flaws:

Unforgiving - This is mostly related to how someone treats their friends. If for any reason someone betrays one of their friends, Deon will give them one chance to see it from his perspective. If they don't follow his train of thought, he would hold that against them for the rest of their lives. From where he's from its literally alien to leave a friend to fend for themselves for their own sake. If you do it purely out of self-preservation then you won’t be trusted by anyone, and if you betrayed them deliberately for themselves then they'll find they have no one to turn to. Keeping with this, Deon will see a man as less for not backing their mates, even when anyone else could relate such as a life or death situation.

Arrogant - This won’t be particular apparent since Deon knows how to make himself appear humble and will make sure to keep that air up with 99% of people. However, he thinks highly of himself when he turned his life around and manage to work out what his mother was going through without anyone to help him, especially due to the fact he has no family outside of his family. Though if Deon were to trust someone enough and knew them for an amount of time this side of his personality might seep out.

Overly Suspicious - of Systems. Not guilds as he respects groups of people coming and working together for a goal. This would relate more issues such as taxes by other players to keep up a town, or laws set by players that aren't against the obvious crimes such as 'no stealing'. As he assumes they are made solely for the sake of the creators of the laws. And he will have no time for a 'police' like system, as there was never a reason to trust a policeman back home, as he had almost been falsely arrested for all the wrong reasons so many times he couldn't even count. It was only almost because he escaped from them with his mates pretty much every time. So even if someone was trying to do good by a system like this, Deon wouldn't even trust the person if they dared went through with it.
