[SP-F1] A Little Overdue <<Secret Medicine of the Forest>>

Recommended Posts

There was one quest that he did skip over back in the past due to how little he thought of it for him at the time. It was time for him to be progressing back in the past, at least enough so that he had some chance of defending himself from the monsters of the first floor. They no longer were a threat to him now, and the quest did offer a bit of tasty looking skill points which he could use. Sure, it only provided one, but he could make the best out of it. Besides, that was one more than he had back in the past. If not that, then maybe he could just give the weapon that he earned from it to a player who wanted it the most, but had to ride solo due to how late they entered. Was it their fault...? In most cases, absolutely. But they still deserved a fighting chance regardless. Hopefully his inventory does not get too full by that time. But at this rate, that won't be quite a problem. The least he could do first was buy a house for himself, so that he had a place to call his and no longer had to be a freelancer at someone else's shop.

According to the quest, he needed to fight a few enemies first before approaching the boss. Though he was not too sure about their health, he felt a decent amount of security knowing that the boss was not that high in health, so they probably would not pose a threat to him either. Was he overconfident? Perhaps. But this was only due to the recent floor clean-up that he had done back in the past, where he ended up taking on huge masses of enemies that wanted to kill him, and their health was way higher than the boss of the quest. So for the small monsters, they probably won’t serve too much as a threat. Regardless, he came in armed with an assault spear since taking chances with an outside attack out of nowhere was not the smartest idea in the world. Despite the amount of damage they could inflict, there can always be a source outside of battle pulling the strings. It would not be the first time it happened.

So he would leave the safe zone with his best equipment on his body, prepared for what could happen out there. The boars were around, and he needed to be care about getting into an encounter, since they did suck up both his time and his energy when they engaged in combat with him. After all, they did require Sword Arts for him to be able to defeat them. And for THAT to happen, he needed enough energy to carry out the attacks. There was no time to rest after a fight as well. So this needed to be a stealth mission for him to get the task done. Was that so hard to do? Considering he never invested any points in any skills that allowed him to hide, it did not seem like the easiest of tasks to carry out, to say the least. Naturally, it can be done with a little thought.

Walking out slowly, he knew what his target was. To find the forest. It was concealed until opened up by the quest. Or so he believed. Navigation was going to be a struggle, surely. But it was not all supposed to be easy in difficulty, now is it. Unfortunately, it did not take too long for him to notice the first encounter, and hopefully the only. Due to his enhanced eyesight, he was able to notice the boar first. But be was not able to see what it was doing exactly, nor could he see direction it was facing. The most he knew about it was that if he got within a certain range, it was over and they would get in a battle. Again, a waste of time and energy for him to deal with. So what exactly was he going to do to get around it? Get around it… Hm.

Going around. That was exactly what he needed to do! Sey did not know how the range system worked, but if it was a circle like the shape of an eye, then he could expect it to be something similar to round. Which in this case, was more than a beautiful hint for him to exploit and take advantage of. He just had to go around in a circular fashion! So he would proceed to advance slowly, moving his body towards the side carefully as the boar would look around, seemingly without knowing of his existence. That could mean anything though, and the steps he took refused to be any louder. By keeping two eyes locked on the boar would leave him exposed from behind to anything looking to rush him regardless, though this thought did not trigger in his mind quite yet, so he let it be for the moment.

As he did this, the boar would let out a sudden stomp, turning it's head around. At that very instant, Sey made sure to prevent himself from moving out of place in any way. Spear held close to his chest, he would hold his breath the best he could in order to prevent any escalation of the scene in front of him. However, the NPC did not seem to notice a single thing. Perhaps a random intimidation tactic? It certainly worked if that was the case. After a few more seconds of waiting, the boar would proceed to continue it's daily life, putting it's head down and slowly moving around. Sey would let out a small sigh of relief, he was about to engage it. Higher level players probably slice through those things all of the time. But this was just not something for him to endure, not yet. This was proof that he was nowhere near the point where he could obtain any form of arrogance, and that he could continue to grow.

Careful not to trigger the alarm, he would continue to move around the round radius of the boar before then proceeding to quickly flee once he got to the other side. Just barely, but he still did it. The instant he was out of there, he would attempt to make a flee out of the scene. Out in the distance, he would hear the footsteps of the boar, probably since it heard him. But it was far too late for it to try anything, he was not going to bother with it. Upon exit of the scene, he would look at the the fields with no info as to where he was now. It did cover that much ground it seemed. As a result, he was now officially lost... Either that, or if things were showing up this way only because of the quest. Yes, that thought put him at ease quite nicely, so he would choose to acknowledge that as the fact instead of the real danger that was about to approach soon. Careful not to trigger any more boars, he would continue to walk.

Stretching his arms upward, he would feel a small yawn emitting from his lips. It was weird, he could have sworn he left off in the afternoon, and that he would have been done in a few minutes. But no, sure enough, he was not as lucky as he thought he was in that sense. Upon turning his head over to the side, he would notice that the sky was not completely blue anymore, but there was a tint of orange around there as well. The sun was officially setting, which was an unfortunate scene since he'd rather not fight in the dark. Now there was a time limit placed. It was not as if he were afraid of the dark or anything, but he would rather be able to see his opponents when fighting. Besides, he heard recently that players were punished for fighting in the dark without the night vision ability. That was something he needed to look out for in his build, he would love to be able to use night vision and prevent the punishments.

So how would he take this approach? It was either he fought in the night time, or he fought against a boar. Well, the goal was to avoid the boars anyways, but he at least knew he had a guaranteed chance at living if he took those on. Fighting in the dark however did not seem like such an enticing idea, much to everyone's surprise most likely. With this in mind, he would place his feet harder against the ground as he would pretty much be stomping through the fields, looking around for some form of area where he can be able to locate the forest. It was not yet in sight, but he never even knew the lands. Besides, there were pretty clear warnings of when the player is out of the bounds that they are supposed to reside outside of. And to go past them... Will not end with a good result. Ask the player who fell back on the ninth floor into the lava for stepping out of line? Fun stuff to think about at this time.

Out in the distance, at the very far distance might one add, was a  small little tree. though it was blurry, it was more of a lead than he had before, and so he would make his way over to it to explore the scene. He paced quickly through the boars, not looking to get hit by them or hit them back, for that will force him to lock onto them and use the system to get away. Upon arrival, he would see that it was not one tree, but an isolated set of green leave trees that were way far way from the town. It was beautiful, mythical, something that he would have imagined in a dream as a background. But it was real, the secret forest of the first floor, it looks like he made it. However, he could not let his guard down, as much as he would love to in order to enjoy the beautiful sight in front of him. Placing his foot inside of the forest, he would walk through it to see what it would provide for him, but most importantly, the monsters.

With this, he would engage in his first battle all of a sudden with one of the Nepants trying to attack him from the side. However, they just barely missed him by a little bit thanks to him running, meaning they were thrown off a little bit and he was able to narrowly avoid it. However, he did notice it regardless ,turning around to face it. It was such a small little monster, he was able to handle it easily without too much effort. So he would move his body forward to aim a quick strike to the body with the default damage he could inflict, and just like that, it would shatter to nothing but pieces of data as it would sparkle away. One of the enemies had been defeated, but another had to be beaten before the boss monster encounter could show up. So he would hold out his spear as he would wait for another monster to arrive, then he could go for the kill against it. This was already and easy enough task.

The second of the two enemies would charge for him once again, but it was moving at such a slow and predictable speed. Perhaps it might have once been a threat, but it seemed like nothing to him now. So he would just gently leap over to the side as it would end up hitting a tree nearby, showing that it did not do too well in it's attempt. It tried, but it just could not do it. Sey would flip the spear over his head one time before slamming the tip of the weapon onto it's body once the spear landed, resulting in the damage being even worse than the first ones, as it was a critical hit. Critical or not critical, it ended up with the same fate as it's bother, as it would also shatter into the nothingness as he would place the spear tip back onto the ground, ready for whatever might happen next.

The next being to arrive was the final Nepent itself. With a pretty tall looking structure to hold it upright as it would float around casually. It seemed to want to engage in combat with him after he killed off it's brothers, which is definitely understandable. Placing out his spear, he would let it strike him first, knowing that the damage that it would do to him was minimal.l As he predicted correctly, he would just stumble back a little bit, but accepted the damage as his body healed back together. In return, he would strike it with his spear, inflicting default damage, but the green bar of the boss monster went down to nearly halfway already. This was a beginner's quest, but Sey was unfortunately unable to help but feel shocked with the result, which was more shame on his part.

The nepent did not seem to go too far back from the impact, despite the damage. It would swing right back at him once again, which Sey took the hit of on purpose since it did not really hurt. It was only about as damaging as the boars that he fought against in the fields the other day. However, upon trying to swing at the boss monster, it would narrowly avoid his attack my swinging to the side, forcing a bit of energy out of him as a little price for doing so. Seems like it was a monster with some form of evasion, which was something he could appreciate. A reward is not so rewarding without a little challenge in the way. Seems like he'll have to do something he never really quite did when he was on the floor for a long time. Plan out his tactics in the fight.

Sey would place the spear up now, prepared to engage the little frisky being in front of him, as it too would also dance around an play along with the battle. They were actually going to fight, and despite how one-sided it was, the white-haired player was taking it at least a little seriously rather than he did when he was up against the other enemies that looked similar to the one in front of him. Placing the spear up, he would aim to strike from above by leaping and slashing down with a brutal metal tip slicing through the body. However, it did not quite go that way. While nearly able to hit it, not enough to connect, so the weapon would instead end up kissing the air instead as he would land back on the ground. It was actually able to wear through his energy, a factor Sey had not considered.

Neither of them got the exchange on that last draw, but he felt for certain that this would be the game changer. He swung his spear up again before dashing from side to side in a bit of an eye-dizzying motion. Nothing special due to the lack of evasion, but it was enough to fool the Nepent. At the last strike, he would place the raised spear down onto the body of the Nepent as it aimed a strike, just barely hitting him, but unable to carry out further since it had been stopped. The sudden green health bar of the quest monster would diminish to nothing, causing the monster to shatter into little crystal pieces that ended up floating away into the air, eventually dissolving and wiping out it's existence now. No loot like a normal monster for obvious reasons, but instead, he would have an HUD.

Before any more monsters could arrive on the scene to find him, the player would make a bail out from the inside of the forest, looking for some form of exit that he was once able to enter from. It was not that big of a forest, but it did seem pretty easy to get lost. The road seemed to lie and only take a curve around and around, so one would have to fight through the plants in order to make their way out. From behind him would be a few enemies that were on pursuit, but at a distance, and so he would not be locked onto them due to the system. Just as long as he prevented himself from engaging in combat with them, he should be fine. With this in mind, he would continue to dash forward through the forest as he sliced the woods little by little. The ending result would be him fleeing from the forest, just barely making it out without any unnecessary fighting and back out onto the fields, where he would have to do the same thing.

Out into the fields where the boars were free to continue the chase that the nepents were unable to finish off, he was forced to continue fleeing on foot the best he could through the boars, rather than trying to engage them. His energy was more or less lower than what it should be thanks to the quest boss that kind of slowed it’s progression down a little bit. Maybe another day, he might try to go face off against the enemies of the floor. But not today. Besides, he heard of some other dungeons that seem to provide him with more things than what this floor can, and if he heard correctly, he would be more than able to take on the masses of enemies out on those floors while reaping better rewards. It was best to go there from now on, he wanted to buy himself a house after all. And that, according to Itzal, would be pricy.

Sey placed his spear away so that he was a little more free to run around. the boars would eventually give up on him as he would make it back to the town of beginnings. But what was he to do now? Rent an inn? Nope, not anymore. Someone else offered him a place to stay, and unlike the inns, they did not charge. Plus, it seemed a little more private that the inns as well. On top of that, it gave him a little bit more pride. For now, he was going to have to buy a house, and that on it's own was going to cost him a fortune. It was a fortune that was worth it, surely, but it was still a fortune to pay. Besides, he would rather not be sticking in someone's shop for the rest of them game, not unless they started charging rent, and only then would it actually be fair. So with this, he would have to travel back up the floors to make it to the one where the shop was located, in which he can go to sleep. It was nighttime.

With this, back at the shop, he would go back to sleep. The quest had been finished, and there was just simply nothing left for him to do now. There was no agenda or anything, nothing had been laid out. Despite being a businessman, he would end up at a dead end. It was his job to fill it up, he was just starting to catch up to the other players, and would like to keep it that way. So he would have to lay something out. The one who let him stay was not currently at the shop, for obvious reasons, so there was no way he could ask him. And besides, waking up a person that was most likely sleeping was an unfortunately stupid idea to do. So he would put that thought away as he would end up looking towards the ceiling, dozing off in boredom and sleepiness. Eventually, he would be put to sleep, seeing nothing but the health bar at the top right part of his body, and so the world without video games would be entered. His dreams. A place where he felt far more comfort.
