The thief was completely ruled by his rage, slashing with wild ferocity as hard and as quickly as it could, even forgetting its nature as a stealth expert and crying out in rage with each attack. He was in his death throes. All Shield needed to do was wait it out. He stepped back a little at a time, not taking his eyes off of the offending weapon. Finally, he saw the rogue pull back for one extra powerful strike.

Having been watching for the opening, Shield was quick to act, swinging his axe upward to catch the no longer sneaky sneak in the side of the neck. It took next to no damage immediately, but as he pulled away his weapon from the wound, red blossomed forth from the wound. As soon as the bleed effect registered, the fight was over. The knife that had buried itself in Shield's temple meant nothing.

Behind Shield, Cassin laughed aloud, clapping his hands.

"Well struck, stranger!" he whooped triumphantly.

The last swipe that Shield took at the rogue was more of a formality than anything. He dodged to the side, pulling back his dagger for a final blow that never came. The last of its life disappeared, and red spilled into the air in all directions. With a waft of stale air, it was gone.

Shield sighed, letting his shoulders relax, his axe and his Shield falling to his sides now that they no longer served a purpose. He felt a hand cuff him hard on the shoulder and turned to see the beaming face of Cassin smiling at him from under a tangle of curly dark hair.

"I am truly in awe of your prowess in battle, friend," Cassin praised him. "Let us be properly introduced. As you know, I am Cassin."

Shield nodded, stowing his axe and extending a hand in greeting.

"Shield," he said simply, not sure if being rude to an NPC would impact him negatively, but preferring not to find out.

Shield motioned with his head for the now freed Cassin to follow him, and together, they made their way back up to the surface and into the cool night air of the desert. While he preferred it to the heat and the blasting sand, the night was no more fun to walk in, simply because of the uniformity of the land and the endless rolling dunes. Although the stars were more pleasing to the eye than just an expanse of pale blue or even faintly tan, sandy blue of the wind storms, he could not enjoy it for having to focus on his map. As they approached the town, his feet began to drag in the sand. As he did so, his foot caught on something solid in the sand.

"What the?" he mumbled to himself, bending down to inspect the object he had struck.

A hunk of rough looking glass stuck part way out of the sand.

Looks like more lightning sand. Probably useful for trinkets and the like.

He banished the item to his inventory before starting on the last leg of the journey back to town, Cassin still in tow.

"Brother!!!" Ali shouted at the sight of his kindred, right before rushing to hug the one he thought off as probably dead.

After the emotional reunion scene ends, Ali came to Shield and placed a large pouch filled with Col coins next to him.

"I can't thank you enough for this. I won't forget what you did for me, please accept this as a small token of my gratitude." he added with a joyful expression.

With one more "Thank you!" he went to his brother and celebrated his return with opulence before the two left the inn, arms around one another's shoulders in a show of brotherly affection.

Shield took one look at the bag of Col, wondering whether the tales of riches had been true, and if the thieves had only kept Cassin prisoner as ransom for their returned treasure. Either way, Shield was more than happy to call it a day and depart back to his shop on the first floor.
