[SP - F7-F9-F14] Twin Crossroads «Feeding the Enemy»

Recommended Posts

Spoiler

<<Feeding the Enemy>>

This quest may take place on any Floor.
This quest is not repeatable, unless your previous familiar is dead or has died.

An old gypsy NPC woman approaches you. She tells you that if you feed a monster, it may become tamed and accompany you on adventures, and sometimes even help you. However, taming a familiar is very rare, and you may even be damaged by the familiar. Use caution. This quest can be taken on any floor.

Requirements:

Thread Length: 1 Page/20 Posts

The monster tamed must be smaller than a large dog and within reason. The tamed monster must also be logically tamed, and as such most humanoid monsters will not be tamable. Staff reserves the right to deny certain types of familiars. If you're worried that your familiar may not be approved before searching for it, please PM a member of Staff.

Rewards:

  1. The title <<(Insert beast's type name) Tamer>>
  2. A familiar (Possibly, view chart below.)
  3. 1 Skill Point

Familiar Results:
When feeding a familiar, you have one chance to tame a familiar every 15 posts. That means you may only roll the loot die for the familiar on the fifteenth post. If you don't want a familiar that you tamed without buffs, you may kill it and continue searching. Use the loot die(LD) to see if you do. Familiars may only be attempted to be found in intervals of 15 posts of the attempting player.

LD 1 - 10 Failure No monster is found or the taming attempt is unsuccessful.
LD 11-18 Success Monster is found and may be successfully tamed.
LD 19+ Success Monster is found and successfully tamed. Player may choose an extra skill from the Familiar Enhancements, submitted for approval via the Evaluations forum.

Only one familiar may be obtained per thread.

A crossroad, that was where Macradon was headed towards, possibly multiple, like when one door closes, another opens. Balthazar the owlbear cub followed its master and companion Macradon to the 7th floor. Macradon wasn’t wearing his big battle attire for the day, as he didn’t seem it fit for the event to happen today, at least from what he had planned. Walking together, the two would traverse the mountain chains of the 7th floor, the place they first met. Balthazar wasn’t sure of what was going to happen today, but he still joyfully followed his master and companion like it was just another cheerful walk. Macradon tried to hold a facade up, keeping calm and happy as he would walk with his friend for the last time. The two walked in silence, walking besides each other like when Macradon had first tamed the small owlbear cub, it was like they had just met again, and Macradon didn’t like the feeling, it was too nostalgic, he would be missing his partner a lot from now on. Chugging down appropriate potions for what was to come. Changing out his normal casual clothing, Macradon exchanged them out for his battle attire, all addorned with his helmet on his head. "Let's take a tour to the 14th floor first and hunt some monsters, I have a something planned here on the 7th floor later on" he said and took the warp portal to the 14th floor.

  • 4 weeks later...

As the two approached the 14th floor’s gates to the outside of the safe zone, the two looked at each other and nodded. Macradon would be the first to take a step out into the dead marshes of the gloomy 14th floor. Quickly encountering 4 skeletal monsters that just stood there, shaking and clanging as the bones quickly collided with each other for some reason. The 4 skeletons would quickly glance towards Macradon, and as Macradon began to get into Battle Stance, Balthazar would retreat back a few meters in a safe distance to give input to Macradon. Macradon would rush up towards the bones with his <Charge> skill and get ready to throw off a heavy blow with his new slightly curved Greatsword, his Templar’s Redemption. The Shambling Bones were quick enough to predict Macradon’s brute force movements and easily, though slowly, attacked. Balthazar had picked that up fast enough to signal the attacks, and Macradon was smart enough to execute his <Calamity Disaster> sword art in such a way that would block and deflect the oncoming attacks, though it was well thought, he wasn’t able to deflect the last of the blows, dealing a slight bit of damage to him, but the damage he did to the shambling bones was quite a blow, nearly taking them down to yellow in a single hit.

After the bullrush blow of the initial attack, Macradon had set himself up for a great second assault. With his sword already ready from the given blow from before, Macradon would tense up his digital muscles and let the Cardinal System do its work. As his sword began to glow an iridescent color, Macradon’s body was moved to execute the Sword Art <Calamity Disaster>. With 6 heavy ferocious blows, Macradon would whittle down the remaining health of the Shambling Bones down to a critical red level where he would be able to easily take them out with a lower tier sword art. Macradon quickly glossed over the red bars above the monsters’ heads, seeing that a single <Tempest> would be enough to eradicate the four Shambling Bones. After recovering from his Sword Art fatigue, he would quickly get into position to execute his <Tempest> so he could go on to another group of monsters.

A slight miscalculations, that probably what you can call this. With a fierce movement from the <Cardinal System>, Macradon would launch his pommel forward, bashing into the face of the first Shambling Bones, destroying its armor and crushing its skull in the process. The rest of the force directed towards the Shambling Bones would also pick up wind against the other skeletons, blowing them from each other with a hard concussive blow of wind, that is the other two of the bones, as it seemed Macradon didn’t reach the last Shambling Bones with his sword art. Whilst still in his Sword Art fatigue, Macradon could only watch as he was attacked by the incoming Shambling Bones. As he was unable to move out of its way, Macradon received a heavy blow, it even felt like a Critical hit, but because of his Battle Healing, that little damage would soon be forgotten.

As he recovered from his Sword Art fatigue, Macradon would quickly move his body and bash up against the big pile of Shambling Bones. With his armor body, Macradon would shove the monster backwards and initiate a <Sword Art> as he spun around from his shoulder bash. As his body grabbed momentum his sword would glow and his body would begin to set off a spin with his heel being the pivot point. With 1440 degrees covered around him, Macradon would’ve cleaved 4 times through the bony body of the Shambling Bones, dealing well enough damage to kill it. The skeletal figure would hunch forward and take a few steps backwards before exploding into crystalline polygons as it disappeared like its brethren. Macradon would sheathe his sword and dust off his hands, armor and clothing. Removing his helmet Macradon would look over at Balthazar who didn’t feel like he was useful in any ways. That’s the feeling they both have had. Macradon was getting much keener on learning monster’s attack pattern within a few seconds of experiencing the, nearly rendering Balthazar’s added keen eyes nearly useless … it was a fact, and it was hard to grasp.

As he walked over to his trusted companion, Macradon would crouch down and pat the small owlbear cub. “This is nice, isn’t it?” he asked his friend as he smiled with glee. The two had been through quite the lot together, but it was soon time to part ways, that’s the plan Macradon is hiding from his friend. Standing back up, Macradon would don his helmet and open up the tracking prompt. “Alright, let’s take another batch and we’ll get back to the mountains, does that sound good to you?” he asked his small beaked friend who nodded delightfully. With his eyes glowing in the darkness of his helmet, Macradon would be able to spot tracks on the ground from the Shambling Bones, following the steps he would soon be met by 4 Shambling Bones, wearing shoddy armor that seems to nearly be rusted away, but still wearable. Drawing his sword from his back, Macradon prepared another fight to commence.

Being locked onto the target he was facing, Macradon would look down onto his companion “Try to alert me if things are looking to go south, aight?”. As he finished his sentence, Macradon would <Charge> into the group of monsters, throwing out a heavy attack with his <Calamity Disaster> Sword Art. Before he even got to execute his Sword Art, two of the Shambling Bones had already begun their retaliation, dealing quite the blow to Macrad, but like a mountain, he didn’t budge at all. 6 heavy blows, dealing a good chunk of damage … two three of the monsters that is. It seemed like one of the Shambling Bones that had attacked him somehow dodged, or walked out of his trajectory for his Sword Art. Be it smart AI or just coincidental walking, Macradon would try to see if he could get a hit in later, but now he had to focus on killing the ones that had been stunned from his Bull Rush charge.

Attacking multiple enemies like this was probably the way to go, but still unable to hit the last fourth Shambling Bones was getting annoying as time went on. Macradon would continuously throw out heavy Sword Arts to deal as much damage as he possibly could, but even though he did a lot of damage the the three  Shambling Bones, the last one just kept on being outside of his AOE range, which was bugging him, especially when in his Sword Art fatigue, the last one out of his range would come in to attack him, the damage was minimal, but still extremely infuriating. There wasn’t much Macradon could do that just throw out <Calamity Disasters> until they were at low enough to take out with <Tempest>, and then go on to solo the last Shambling Bones. Macradon noted everything down in his mind and prepared himself to execute his plan.

His plan was going to succeed one way or the other, his numbers were significantly higher than the monsters, which made it much easier to do his job of hunting monsters so he had something to do while on downtime from frontlining, something that was calming for him as well as refining his skills as a fighter. He would closely watch the Shambling Bones’s movements and await any anomalies in their movements, which Macradon would be able abuse and take care of. A screech would be heard from Macradon’s back, he knew what was going on. Quickly ducking down and side stepping, Macradon successfully dodged the Shambling Bone’s attack and was capable of position properly to get his <Tempest> Sword Art off, dealing the killing blow on the 3 Shambling Bones, leaving the single unharmed monster alone. Macradon, after smashing his pommel into the Shambling Bones, destroying them, would stand back up straight and look at Shambling Bones that was left.

Getting into stance, Macradon would begin to run towards the Shambling Bones, seeing its attack from miles away. He would duck down and step around the Shambling Bones, having his sword ready as he executed the Sword Art <Galaxy Destroyer>, cleaving ferociously down into the Shambling Bones. Usually attacks as heavy and strong as <Galaxy Destroyer> would stagger their opponents, but apparently this monsters was stubborn enough to just turn around as Macradon’s sword went through it and attack Macradon as he was put into his Sword Art fatigue. A single attack was thrown at Macradon, dealing quite some damage, but his Battle Healing would take care of most of the damage, making sure Macradon would stay Gucci. What could be happening now would just be the two trading blows, as Macradon could not get it not to attack him, and he was vulnerable after executing an attack, it was like a game of chess, sacrificing piece for piece.

Macradon would retaliate, going in for another attack. His sword began its glowing face, initiating the Sword Art. With a concentrated look, Macradon would make sure he looked at everything the Shambling Bones was doing through the visor of his helmet. He would rush up towards the Shambling Bones as it didn’t really move that much, thinking that it would just stand still since it didn’t do anything else. But as he closed in and began his cleave with his sword, the Shambling Bones just stopped the attack with its hand, grabbing onto the blade low don on the blade and with its over arm throw an attack that would hit Macradon directly on the torso, going up on his head as well. Staggering back up, Macradon would try to look for any opening that wasn’t too obvious, as it seemed that that was the way it would bait Macradon to attack it for it to retaliate easier.

Exchange of blows, shifts in tactics, retaliation. This battle between Macradon and the single monster was going back and forth, both being capable of fighting, but because of the Cardinal System and the way Sword Arts worked, Macradon was at a slight disadvantage because of mechanics, but that’s what he had to train himself out of, so that he was good enough that the disadvantage didn’t do much to him. Gritting his teeth, Macradon would continue the blocks and deflections, bashing the attacks away without of being able to hit back, he would get enough of this boring stagnant fight and would duck below an arm swing from the Shambling Bones, and as he passed by the Shambling Bones he activated his <Galaxy Destroyer>, cutting right through the Shambling Bones, but with his back turned, a hard strike down his upper spine would do damage upon him, pushing him forward, staggering to the ground.

Macradon would quickly get up from the ground and secure space between him and the Shambling Bones. He would stand in a pflug guard, a defensive mid guard, and awaited any movement from the Shambling Bones, but it just stood there, baiting Macradon’s attack, and he knew that. Macradon would go down into a Neben guard with his sword at his right behind him and begin to run toward the Shambling Bones. Instead of using his <Galaxy Destroyer> Sword Art, Macradon would switch to a Neben guard on his left as he would duck under the Shambling Bone’s attack, instead of do what he did before, Macradon activated his <Back Rush> Sword Art and shopped the Shambling Bones in half from its back. Macradon would stand in the guard after the strike, standing still for a short while, respecting the dead monster that kept him fighting longer than he was supposed to do.

Looking over at his companion, Macradon would smile and ask “Let’s take a rest, wanna go to the mountains?” he asked his small feathery companion. The small bird bear nodded its beaked head and the two would venture down back to the 7th floor again. On their way back to the mountains, Macradon would change from his armor back to his casual attire that would be more comfortable to walk around in than his heavy plate armor. The two would take a long relaxing walk, lasting for nearly two hours of them just walking around together, having fun, hiding behind different kinds of terrain. The day goes on and on and the two are having the day of their partnership. Macradon regretted the decision, but it was obviously a mutual feeling that both were unfit for each other now. They had their time and Balthazar had done a lot for him, but now it just didn’t fit anymore, Macradon was as fast if not faster to realize patterns of monsters and how to counteract them, now it was all about dealing more damage, and Balthazar was indeed no fighter.

At what seemed to be the end of the day, Macradon would open his menu and take out a piece of fresh meat. “Hey buddy, this is for you” he said to Balthazar as they both sat atop Macradon’s old training spot he adored to much. Balthazar would munch down the steak and Macradon would just look out into the mountain view which was beautiful. He would sigh as he looked over at Balthazar, unable to think of what to do, how to tell him, how to let him go. Macradon would ponder for quite a while before he would look with a sad face towards his small companion. The small owlbear looked up at his master in confusion, what was going to happen?

He would avert his eyes from making contact with the eagle head and look out at the sunset that was happening. “I have to let you go” he said with a hurt voice, but it wasn’t like he didn’t hate Balthazar, the two just needed to part ways for the benefit of each other, Balthazar wouldn’t get much out sticking with Macradon, and Macradon didn’t really synergize that well with his small partner. The small owlbear understood, he had been feeling the same and it was time to go. The owlbear would walk over to its master and was embraced with a big hug. The two friends would be there in a long hug, having the last time with each other now before Macradon would let go and let Balthazar walk away. “See you later …” he said to the owlbear as it disappeared through the terrain of the 7th floor.

Walking away from the summit, Macradon would think of a place that would make him think too much of Balthazar. The 9th floor, the floor with lava, warmth and slight darkness. Unlike the mountain tops of the 7th floor, this was more underground than up high through the skies. Macradon would walk around the area, meeting an old woman who was wandering around the fields of the burning 9th floor. The old woman would encounter Macradon and ask him “Hello young ‘un, don’t you need a familiar, a partner?”. Macradon would chortle lightly and reply “Hah, no I’m actually a -” he said before stopping himself from continuing. He wasn’t an Owlbear Tamer anymore, his owlbear was gone, and so his title.

“Yes, I’d like a familiar” he corrected himself. “Well then!” the old woman exclaimed “Then venture out into the lands and try to tame one of the wild beasts in these plains!” she said. Macradon nodded and smiled “I shall” he said as he began his journey out into the plains of the 9th floor. He walked around a lot, but found not much from lesser lava elementals, rock elementals, golems and the like, animated objects or semi-conscious beings. He had to walk for hours, it was getting late, very very late. He had no choice but to find shelter. He would find a small rock formation that seemed hollow enough that he could sleep in there without much interference.

As he went into the crevices of the different boulders, but as he entered, he heard some kind of snarling come from inside the darkness of the rock formation. He would look around to see if he could find the source of this snarling, but it was too dark to see anything in there. That was until the small doubler formation was lit in bright lights as the snarling became loud barking, three barking mouths simultaneously. Macradon had to close his eyes at first from the bright lights, but over a short duration could open his eyes to see what was barking at him. A three headed dog in flames, barking at the Scarlet Templar.

He quickly retracted from the crevice, back outside into safety, but without shelter. The barking stopped and the burning lights slowly went away again. “Damn, I need shelter, perhaps I can bait it out or something?” he thought for himself. “Or maybe it’s stuck in there?” he thought. Taking out the steak from his inventory, Macradon would throw it at the crevice, and lo and behold, the three headed hound burst out of the crevice, enlarging it slightly, just to get something to eat, so desperately. The three headed hound exchanged the meat around, letting every head take a bite. As he saw upon what was happening, Macradon would crouch down and look at the three heads eating.

It was quite the beast, 3 heads, one huge appetite. A small cerberus, small in smaller than the field boss, but still at the size of a big English Mastiff. Slowly, Macradon would try to reach out and pet it with his hand, but he didn’t get far before the head with the meat began to snarl and the other  two barked at him, all three fully ablaze and the body, still in the crevice, only becoming more eager as the crevice would enlarge even further. Macradon retracted his hand again, didn’t want to take unnecessary damage from this. Letting the heads eat the meat all the way to completion, Macradon would stay crouched down and just spectate the hungry beast. As they completed the steak, they longed for more food, they needed more food. The three heads would look up at Macradon, a delicious treat they could have.

The body of the cerberus wriggled and moved a lot, the heads snapping out after Macradon and its body fully ablaze once again. As the body began to wiggle its way into freedom again, it had opened the crevice so much that the boulder structure was collapsing. “Dangit!” Macradon roared out as he jump forward, keeping his body above the cerberus as the boulders fell down. Because of his high level and high quality armor, the environmental damage wasn’t doing anything to him at all, the rocks that did fall down were scattered around him and left the cerberus unharmed. The hound, now silent without a single flame, would send its main head up and lick Macradon’s face, its saviour’s face. A small prompt would appear before Macradon’s head.

Macradon smiled and dismissed the message. He had tamed the cerberus, and it wasn’t his intention to start of, but it happened, and he was happy with it. Something as fierce as a three headed hound should be more than capable of being his Fighting companion on the field, be it for farming or fighting on the Front Lines. He would try to stand up, shake off the debris on his body to the sides and get up to tidy his clothes, Luckily enough the game didn’t take account anything that would smother his clothes, so he would just get up and dust off his shoulders as a gesture to say he was fine. The three headed cerberus would sneak itself around the rubble and stand up strong. The large hound went up to his shoulder with its main head, the back of it reaching nearly 80 cm in height.

He would lift his hand and slowly reach out towards the hound’s head and pat it, it didn’t pull its head back, it extended its neck slightly to be patted by its new master. “I think I’ll call you Belphegor” he said with a smile and kept on petting. He would tippy toe out of the rubble and watched the hound follow him through the rubble. “Let’s take a walk” he said and began to walk around the hot 9th floor together with the ferocious cerberus. It didn’t seem like he needed a leash, the hound was quite so loyal and kept itself silent until Macradon would speak to it, it was like a guard for him. He smiled and just kept on walking, just before he noticed “Oh yeah, it’s like 1 am or something now” he thought and crouched down to be in head height of the three headed cerberus. “Wanna find a room we can sleep in? I’ll buy you some food before we find a place to stay” he said with a smile.

Macradon would have to dedicate a lot of time to discipline Belphegor now, that’s what he thought as he was glomped by the big hound that agreed to food. Macradon was floored and licked repeatedly by the three heads that gleefully showed its love to its new master that was its new food source. Macradon would smile and laugh, and slowly push off the big hound and dry off his face “Alright alright alright, let’ get going then” he said and chortled multiple times through his sentence. The two would venture back to the main settlement, the closest place that possibly had an open stand or two that would be able to sell them something to eat, and an inn where they could stay the night. Walking around the town, Macradon would find vendors and merchants selling different kinds of stuff, but he finally settled at an outdoor butcher that had plenty of steaks drying in the air.

Macradon would purchase a large amount of raw steaks that Macradon would place away in his inventory, even though he was quite aware that Belphegor really wanted something to eat again. Macradon smiled down at his new companion and said “Don’t worry, I just have to find something to eat myself, then we can have our second dinner”. Macradon wanted to find something that was practical to eat outside, perhaps and outdoor vendor that had some kind of street food he could enjoy without having to sit in confined space where his big hound would be in the way of everyone present, himself even. “Hm … this works as well” he muttered to Belphegor as the two would get close to a small stall that sold cupnoodles ready to eat in a minute, so Macradon would buy a single cup and find a bench in the town to sit down on. Before eating, Macradon would take his steaks and give one to each head so they didn’t need to switch around so much.

The two would eat, Macradon slowly slurping down hot noodle soup from a cup, and Belphegor ferociously munching his three steaks down like he hadn’t eaten for years. Macradon smiled at the sight of his new companion, someone he could stay together with for quite a long time now. Slurping down the noodles, Macradon would feel a warmth inside him grow, be it noodles or new company, Macradon was getting more and more happy with his existence. The two would finish their delightful meal of the day and would together venture around town, with some people looking weirdly at the three headed hound that followed the knight in casual clothes. Looking around for room to stay, too many people could not let Macradon take in his big cerberus, so they walked for an hour before finding someone who was willing enough to take in the three headed hound, even though the great field boss was a three headed fire breathing hound. The two would lay themselves in the bed and the night would pass by as they slept.
