[PP-F1] <<The First Few Lessons are Free>> (Thicc) [COMPLETE]

Pick sighed, tossing his coin up and down, and up and down before looking over to his right at the big guy who had been staring into space on the same park bench as him.

"So, you ready to get this quest done again? It seems that the last time we did it, we apparently exceeded the party size, so this time, Blood won't be coming with us. A shame, really, but we're just gonna have to do with it for now. Tell me when you're ready." He exclaimed, sitting up in a proper position as he looked over real fast once more.

"I know you're not much of a talker, and I'm the opposite, but I'm not as annoying as that Michael guy. I hope we get along, even if it seems that I have to talk to a blank wall sometimes. The name is Pickpocket... I am a thief."

"A thief, eh? I'm a soldier, completely unlike the likes of your kinds. We eliminate shady characters like you. But since we're going to be on a long-term squad, we will have to get to know each other better." Bates exclaimed, not even looking at the thief. It was not his role to be social... his life was not like the others, and he knew completely that his ability was far higher than the ranks of all of the other players within this game. He had the determination, the grind, the urge to become stronger, which is something that a majority of the players lack, even if they were higher leveled than the rest of them. Bates sighed, the only thing that didn't go his way so far was the name... and the fact that he's in this place in the first place. It's a miracle that no one has talked to him about his name already.

Pick stood up, "Time to go on and get this quest done. Blood probably has other things for us to do, after all. Once we get this quest done, we can both potentially become closer to getting our crucial first skill. With a confident smirk, he began to walk... it was time for the quest to be completed. When the two players arrived at the alchemist's place, he seemed delighted to see the two players again.

"Hello there, sirs. Seems like the last time, you couldn't do this quest due to a special circumstance. Luckily, I am in need of some more mushrooms, if you both are willing to help me out with this quest. What about it? Will you accept my special request from the both of you? Ten mushrooms in total... five each. Go get them, boys." The white-haired quest giving NPC said, as he went right back to his potion making.

Bates led the way to the outside of the safe zone, where he encountered several stray boars. "You say your luck is beyond the perception of mankind? Let's test it out, shall we? Allow us to have a contest regarding the material gathering to make it more interesting. Let's see who gathers all the quest materials first," he negotiated. The material gathering that the three players went on last time was way too boring, and he found no interest in the repetitiveness that resulted from material gathering. Bates sighed, looking around near the base of the river in search of the brown mushrooms that could be used for the quest completion. "Let's see here," he exclaimed, bending down and picking up a mushroom. Unfortunately, there is a small tint of green on the mushroom, so it is not a useful material for the alchemist that had given them the quest.

Pick grinned. "A game of luck, seriously? I can beat you in a game of luck at any time, at any moment. Luck isn't just luck... but you make your own luck. You don't look that confident in your luck... or you don't believe in truly making your luck. Let me show you that luck is not just something one accidentally obtains. Look... you already failed your first material gathering attempt... and I will succeed. Just let me show you." Pick finished, looking around just like Thicc only to notice a tall mushroom that stood out from the rest. It was a perfect hue, and very near perfection. The mushroom was not like the rest, but it was close to perfection. "Will you look at that, a perfect material. Looks like I'm already one step ahead of you buddy, you better step up your game, or admit that I am the master of luck."

Bates sighed. "Unbelievable. Luck is not something that you can control." He exclaimed, looking around, and moving to a new location. The next mushroom is a necessity to become a material because without it, Pick would probably get another successful material gathering attempt. If he was to fail this one, he would probably go down by two, which is not a positive. Bates charged forward with utmost speed, grabbing onto a mushroom that seemed to stand out. Unfortunately, the mushroom is poisonous, and cannot be used as a material. Bates sighed repeatedly, smashing his face against a tree in frustration. The only chance that he had of catching up was for Pick to fail, and he didn't really believe that the possibility was there. Bates looked at Pick, watching the grin unfold in his face. "Looks like I failed, let us proceed... it is your turn yet again. I wonder if you'll succeed.

"Now watch and learn buddy. Let's get this thing done real fast. I'm gonna show you that you really can determine your luck if you believe in it. Luck comes from your belief... your confidence in what appears to be out of your control. Watch, I'm gonna look down and there's gonna be a mushroom right here for me to pick." Pick grinned, looking down immediately and spotting a mushroom that stood right there, and it is literally identical to the last one that he picked up. "Perfect, looks like it's 2-0. If the trend continues, I'm gonna be able to finish this quest before you even find the first material. How about it? You should've never started a challenge with the luck king himself." Pick smiled arrogantly, shaking the mushroom a couple of times before inserting it into his inventory. Yet again, he would be able to get another material under his belt.

Bates sighed. How was it possible that this guy had better luck than him? Luck was not something that is certain, he's sure of it, but for some reason, it appears that the luck was with Pick's side. Luck was called luck because no one can call it for sure. To Bates, there is no such thing as luck, only skill and ability. Bates sighed, looking down, it only meant that his ability to material gather had not yet been manifested into his being yet. As he looked along the river banks, his eyes were suddenly caught by a shiny mushroom in the distance. Looking around, he checked to see if Pick was close enough to steal the material from him. Fortunately, he was way too far ahead, and without another blink, Bates charged at the mushroom, picking it up and claiming it as his first material of the material gathering session.

Pick grinned as he watched Thicc get his first material. He was well on his way to the end of the quest. With a few more materials, he would be complete, and Thicc was no where near completion. During quests like this, Pick was supreme with more ability than all the other players. His luck is not anything that can be describable. Pick smirked, looking down on the floor once more right when Bates ran to the mushroom. Thicc was wearing heavy armor, which meant he would be naturally slow. As a result, Pick would be able to beat him to any material, but that's simply not fair play. For Pick, a good material is a material that has been captured with the hands of his own efforts. As Pick looked at the ground, he saw a mushroom that he instantly picked up and claimed as his own. "Another one." He said casually to Thicc.

Thicc was slowly catching up. Next to his recent findings, he found yet another mushroom that would be good for his material inventory. Soon, he would be able to complete the quest too, and he was only falling behind by one in comparison to Pick. Recently, Pick has only failed... zero times. Thicc scratched his hair... how could it happen? As he observed the mushroom that he found, he made sure that it was in perfect condition.

In order to fill up the word count, Thicc decides that he must describe the materials to himself perfectly. He noticed that a good mushroom requires: Complete brownness and a full blend of different colors, but none of them more apparent than the brown. The brown symbolizes the herbs that can be used to help the alchemist with increasing the effects of potions and even crystals if they were lucky. Thicc smiled gently, putting the material away.

Pick grinned. He signaled to Thicc as he obtained yet another material that he placed into his quest inventory. With a smile, he noticed that someone was approaching the party of two. "Michael... I know you. Good of you to come here. It was getting boring with us not saying that much."

Michael smiled as he came over. "Hello there, amigo. I heard from Blood that ya'll need some company. Here I come, and I have arrived. Do you guys miss me?"

"I doubt anyone really misses you. But I'm happy that you'll be here. I'm gonna get this quest done soon enough, and Thicc is still some way behind. You might need to accompany him once I'm done, since I'm not gonna wait for him before I go craft the item needed for this quest." Pick exclaimed, strolling along the river bank with Michael following closely behind and whistling.

Thicc watched in the distance and nervously chuckled to himself when he saw the green-haired Mohawk man arrive. He did not intend to spend any of his time fleeing from the stupidity that spurs from the mouth of the gangster. He had no time to converse with the man, and when he came, Thicc immediately face palmed... or rather, tree palmed. He struck his head straight into a near by tree, causing Michael to run over with haste.

"Heyo, what's up fella. I see that you're on the same quest again. You are probably the only person I know in history who has managed to fail the starter quest, except for that other thief guy. Anyways, I'm tryna spend some time with my fellow teammates, so I'm here to accompany you, since my fella over there said something about you not having enough materials. I'm gonna give you some advice right now."

Pick smiled, he saw another mushroom in the distance and it was a great opportunity to finish off the quest way before the tank that was currently his rival. Pick simply does not lose on this luck game, since his luck is extraordinary. He had yet to fail on a material gathering attempt on this quest, and this was his pride. He had made his luck... that is what luck is... While it is luck, luck - to him at least - is also a synonym for skill. He managed to increase his luck with his confidence and skill. With this last material, he was finally free to return to the quest giver. Pick smiled, waving at the tank and blowing him a fake taunting kiss. He had won, and gotten the last material necessary for this quest. Now, he just needed to give it to the quest giver and get some crafting done.

The last time, he was unable to gather a material because he had been distracted by Michael's nonsense. He had already fallen behind, and although he knew that Pick was a luck specialist, he didn't expect the guy to finish the quest with such haste. It's a shame that he was unable to win the competition, but he didn't give it that much mind because luck is not something that is skill-based. Thicc does not need luck to succeed in this game... in fact, bad luck does not discourage him either. With one look, he was able to pick out a mushroom near the river and claim it as his own. Thicc looked over at Michael and waved the mushroom before standing up and continuing to move on.

"Well, well. Let's see here. You seem very proud of yourself having only gotten three. Let's see if you can even keep it up."

Pick walked over to Zakariah's place and was greeted by a kind white-haired man who was willing to help him out with the quest. He taught Pick to grind the mushrooms slowly until they were completely dissolved and separated so that they can easily dilute with water and create the final product - the healing potion. Pick didn't really pay that much attention because he had no intention of becoming an alchemist. As a thief and treasure hunter, he was one of those merchant guys. With a smile, he confidently said, "Look, sir. I am well prepared to complete this quest. Now, you just need to watch." With a smirk, he picked up a mystical tool used on an alchemists's table. "What does this do?" The next thing that happened was the thing blew up right in his face. "Haha... unfortunate."

"Do not worry about it, child. Mistakes is a common thing for beginners."

Thicc stood up with yet another mushroom in his hand. Once again, he managed to snap one out of the ground using just his pinkie. Thicc had managed to succeed in catching up some what, but he didn't know how far Pick was in for his crafting session. If Thicc was able to collect all the materials before Pick completely finishes the quest, he might be able to negotiate a tie. With a sigh, he continued to walk with Michael blabbering gibberish behind him.

"Look, sir. If you don't want to talk about anything, I can just talk in the back. You guys are really lucky that you guys had help with this quest. When I first started out of the starting zone, everyone was so clueless. When I completed this quest, I still didn't know what I was doing. You don't even have to learn anything from this quest, because you're just here for the experience."

Pick smiled. "Whoopsies. Now, let's get this thing on the road real fast. That was a mishap, but we all learn from our experiences. Our mistakes make who we are, so let's get this quest completed."

He inserted the second mushroom into a wooden bowl that the alchemist had provided him with and with a grinder, he managed to grind the mushrooms into a multitude of small pieces. Using these small pieces, he managed to blend them with water, making the water turn pink-reddish, and giving it a little bit of a shininess. Without even asking the white-haired man, Pick knew immediately that he had managed to succeed. The quest was far too easy, and for a lucky man like him, it was even easier. He had managed all 5 material gathering attempts with ease, and the only mishap was an accident in hearing and being distracted. With a thumbs up, he walked out, knowing that he had won the contest.

"Easy. Got it done." Thicc said, standing up and buffing out his chest. He felt like a victor, and Pick has yet to return to tell him that he had completed the quest, so he had a chance of catching up with the guy who claims to be the luckiest man in this game. Of course, even if he claims it, Thicc won't ever actually believe it. Who does this guy think he is? If he is really going to become a crafter or a merchant or a treasure hunter, he will be completely useless in combat, so Thicc has no idea why Blood even has her eyes on this guy. In addition, he was completely not evil, neither was Thicc either to be fair, but he needed someone who could give him commands... and the perfect person for this task would be Blood, who had a purpose in this game, even if it's an evil one.

Pick sighed as he crossed his arms. He could not simply stand there and wait for Thicc to appear. He had no time for such a thing. Instead, he would venture just outside of the safe zone and put his luck to the test once again. Just outside the safe zone was a place that was known for having literally no materials, except for a rare few that just spawned a second ago. Pick smirked, starting to run towards the end, signalling a good bye to Zach. The white-haired man could only watch and laugh as the energetic young man burst out of the safe zone. Unfortunately, his luck had some limits to it, because he was unable to find the material that he would like to have. With a sigh, he ventured a bit further into the wilderness for more materials, and even by an off chance, he can find a random treasure chest somewhere.

Thicc began to walk. Without even batting an eye at Michael, or the Pick that he saw as he went on his way. He did manage to spot a wave that came from the thief, himself, which he shrugged off because it was obviously an obnoxious taunt. Thicc continued on his way, frustrated that Pick had managed to win the contest so easily. Thicc was not a competitive person, at least that's what he thought... well, it was because he never really knew the feeling of losing. This was a good lesson to him, and this was perhaps something that was prepared for him by Blood. Thicc, with no emotion, arrived at the quest giver's location, and went through the same process as Pick. Unfortunately, he was unable to craft the potion on his first attempt either, so he simply had to wait and try it once more. With a grunt, he prepared once more.
