Objectives:

  • Go to Ol' Pete's
  • Deliver Fishing Pole to Pete
  • Catch a Sword Fish with Pete (CD: 6+)
  • Defeat the Sword Fish (Sword Fish: 35/35 | DMG: 50/5)
  • Travel back to Ol' Pete's
  • Gather Materials

Pick found today to be an awfully good day to finish up what he started. Pick has always loved the feeling of finishing something, and this didn't start from his quests in this game either. To complete something was a wonder to him, it was a great sense of satisfaction that was provided to him at the moment that it's done. Although he had completed several quests prior to this one - this one was the first one that would be a series of quests to be completed by him. He was glad that he had taken the time to go ahead and do this, since a lot of other players had just decided to skip this quest trilogy and go on to the more interesting ones. Of course, Pick, being as precise and calculative he is, knew that he needed to get this quest over and done with so he can get the skill points.

Pick needed to go get that fishing pole to the guy - his name was Pete. Pick was glad that he was about to finish the beginner's quest series, and after this, the tutorial was basically over. Although this wasn't particularly the tutorial, since there was actually no tutorial for this game, and the purpose of this entire quest line was so that the players can understand the general gist of the game, and how every thing really worked. Pick walked through the first floor until he reached the only place on the first floor with the only body of water. There was a house right on the shore where Pete would be staying in for Pick to be able to talk to and start the quest. Pick had heard rumors of what the quest was like, so it shouldn't be that hard for him to beat this quest with ease.

Pick walked into the place - the name was Ol' Pete's and the inside was surprisingly messy for an NPC house. Well, Pick actually sort of expected it, since he was a fisher man who were always out with players helping them with the beginner quests and accompanying them. Pick was relieved that there were still friendly NPCs in this game, but there were literally no one around. He sat down in a random location and checked all the fish in the walls. He had heard about the fishing skill in this game, which made it so that you can fish for fishes that turned into materials and sometimes, you can even get a treasure chest at the bottom of the sea. Of course, Pick liked the concept, but it was difficult to get the treasure chest, and gatherer skill was generally better than the fishing skill since materials could be found easier that way.

It was then that the old man came from the back of the room. He was old, but he was tall and strong - probably from all the NPC fishing that he did the whole time since the beginning of the game. Pick smiled, standing up from his chair and extending his hand to shake the old man's hand who had been polite enough to offer it first.

"Well, well, another quest taker, huh? So where's the parcel? Where's my fishing rod. A lot of players have been trying to get this quest done without doing all the previous quests, which I don't understand because it's supposed to go in sequence." The old man, Pete said.

Pick smirked, handing the fishing rod to him before speaking, "There are simply some people who are confused, or ignorant, or just stupid, but I'm not one of those people. Here you go, sir." Pick finished.

Pick watched as the man nodded before heading back to the back of the room and pulling out a jar of materials. Materials, as in worms that can be used to search for fishes. A good bait is required to get good fish, even Pick, an inexperienced man in terms of fishing knew that fundamental. Hopefully, this game made it easier for fishing to be successful, because he did not want a repeat of the feeding an enemy quest. He wanted to get this quest done in a day, not wait for a long time in order to complete the quest. The owl was currently hiding in the woods outside of the sea. There was no way for Pick to communicate with Emerald this way, but he would still receive the damage boost that would be provided to him by the owls. Pick sighed, he would have to get the owl a costume eventually.

Pick got onto the fishing boat with Pete, looking forwards to getting this quest done sooner than later. With his luck, he should be able to fish up the sword fish that Pete wanted with one hook or perhaps two - indeed, this was the confidence that Pick had in his abilities to manipulate the RNG with his luck in this game. People may say that he cannot control luck, but Pick does not believe that he cannot. Pete got into the boat right after him, and then the two players were out into the waters. Soon enough, the two players came to a stop in the middle of the water with the fishing hook out, and when he felt a tug, Pick began to pull on the rod and he realized that it was too heavy for him to do it himself. Pete came to assistance, and then the massive fish came out of the surface.

The fight had started. Unlike regular fishing, this fishing required that Pick defeat the sword fish, not only catch it. This was a big fish, while the other fish that is caught using fishing were small ones that won't be too useful. Pick smiled, getting out the golden axe that he had as he watched the sword fish fly in the air - a fish that can fly, why is he not surprised? Pick smirked, winding his axe back as he tried his new sword art, the ultimate breaker that brought the axe up like an uppercut, and he was unable to make contact with the sword fish because this was the first time that he had fought on water. The sword fish responded by charging at the man, and Pete, in which Pick ducked and Pete simply sat there doing nothing but smoking a cigarette. "You got it newbie," He said.

Pick would do this sword art once again. He had enough energy to keep using this exact skill, so it was perfectly fine for him to keep using this sword art. There was no point of using his rank one sword arts anymore, which is good, because that means he was making progress as a result. Pick sighed, beginning to activate the sword art and then pulling out the weapon for a super long wind up. It was so long that the fish did not expect it. Pick swung the axe and striking the fish with his golden axe before he prepared to dodge the attack. The sword fish charged forwards and Pick jumped, allowing the sword fish to completely miss him as it went under the water again. Before long, it had recovered enough to reappear from the water which would allow the combat to continue. "Good hit, young one." Pete said.

Pick was surprised that he managed to beat the fish to half of its original health. Pick had expected this quest to take longer than it took, and Pick was very glad that he was able to successfully deal damage to the fish multiple times. The new sword arts that he had in his arsenal was a great addition to his abilities as a fighter, and soon enough, he might even become a very powerful damage dealer, and not just a lucky individual. He could strike the fish one more time, and the fish would no longer have its life. If he managed to do the same thing, he could defeat it in just three turns of combat, which would allow him a lot of time afterwards to gather materials for his shop and for purchasing other items. Pick smirked, jumping high into the sky and using his sword art to finish off the mob.

Pick sighed, putting away his golden axe. He really had gotten a lot stronger, and the familiar bonuses that his owl gave him despite the fact that he's sleeping right now was excellent. With the one additional damage along with a few more after he spends some skill points on increasing his familiar's abilities, he should be a decent damage dealer and use that damage to farm not only materials but Col as well. This would make it so he can literally become the richest man on his own without the assistance of other players. Of course, this would make it slow, and would give him a lot of work in comparison to as if he can literally just get Col from the bodies of victims. Pick smirked, looking back at the fisher man and he met his eye. Pete laughed, "Well done, buddy, I think that's going to be it."

Pick knew that he had managed to complete the quest, and now he just needed to receive the awards after killing the fish. He smirked, watching as Pete got off the boat before he followed him back into Ol' Pete's. The man was a great fisherman, but Pick wasn't that bad at all. After all, his luck had managed to get him a huge sword fish, and the man even decided to put the sword fish on his wall instead of cooking it like what he did to most of the other fishes that he caught, or that players caught for him. Pick nodded, watching as the quest complete icon appeared in front of him. He had finally completed the starter quests, but that was just the start to his journey. He had far more quests to go, and he won't rest until he can get those done completely and easily.

Pick sighed, he knew that he would have to gather some materials again, since he was done with the quest. He had gotten the day's quest complete, which was good, and he knew that eventually, he would be able to get two or even three quests done in a day, but that time will come once he's stronger. For now, he wanted to build up his arsenal of materials and then use them to his advantage. The more the better - his philosophy has yet to fail him, unless it was regarding giving away stuff - by then, it would just be giving away just enough so that the person likes you and then you'll be able to use the connections to your advantage. He didn't expect that much from this material gathering session though, since he didn't use any potions or any boosts that would help him with his luck skills.

Pick then realized that he needed to train his familiar to do things for him. This was going to be his friend for as long as the game continued - in fact, the owl would be the only pet that he had which could know his identity. All the other players cannot because they can speak and can have a change of hearts. Pick's familiar, however, cannot have any thing like that. Pick smirked, calling for his material once he made sure no one was around. "Alright, Emerald... now that you're familiar with my two identities, we're going to have to make sure that you know exactly what you are doing. Let's practice material gathering." Pick looked around, once the owl landed on his shoulder. It was sleepy since it slept during the day, but that means it can do things more effectively during the night too. "No materials around here, why don't you look around?"

Pick watched the owl fly into the air and then sat down on the ground. Having a familiar would be much easier, since it can help him in combat and it can deliver messages as well. Not only that, it can scout with him, and since it can fly, it truly is an effective familiar. Although it's abilities were weak during the day, it can still do basic things despite needing to sleep. He would use it for a limited time during the day so that the owl can sleep and then prosper during the night. He had chosen the breed of owl specifically so that he can utilize its abilities at all times. Pick smirked, watching as the owl returned silently and began to fly away immediately. Following it, Pick was able to get a few apples and then pull them into his inventory. "Good job, fella." Pick exclaimed.

Pick smirked, allowing the owl to go back to sleep. He would train the owl later on at night and then use him to do something different, or cooler and something with more use than just searching for materials. After all, it was a damage dealer, a combat pro that can help him during combat not just search for victims or search for things that Pick can add to his inventory. The familiar is not great at searching, but since it can fly, Pick can train him to do some of the things. It won't be as good as him in material gathering, but it can still be helpful for him. Pick sighed, instructing Emerald to go get a snooze while he finished up the material gathering. "Thanks fam, Emerald, you go back to sleep now, I'll finish up the rest of the material gathering, and then I'll meet you during the night."

Pick was successful. He had managed to gather another patch of materials - the maximum that he can get at once just through his own efforts. The only reason that he didn't get a luck-based familiar was because of the fact that he did not need it. He was fine with his own luck, and he did not need help at all. He was a successful user of the luck and any more luck that was given to him was simply over kill that he did not need. Pick had managed to find himself in a great position, and he knew that eventually, he would become the best player in this game with all the money that he obtains. For now, he wanted to get stronger and get his damage up so that he can farm as much Col as possible. Until he can get that damage, that's what he will be investing skill points into.

That's right. No matter how much he wanted to put points into searching skill to get his loot die bonuses up, there was just a point where he had to decide between what he wanted, and what was best for his build and future. Getting a weapon skill would make it so that he didn't have to depend on others that much, and that he no longer would be without self-protection. He needed a way to defend himself if something went wrong, and with a sword or weapon skill, he would be able to solo quests easily, and thus get skill points faster without being dragged down by weaker players. Getting these quests done at a fast pace would make things a lot easier for himself and for the organization that he is attempting to form. He would make sacrifices, to fulfill the destiny that had already been set for him.

Pick continued walking. Perhaps he can even get some materials and then maybe get some treasure chests as well. Indeed, he could see that - he could see that he was about to gather not that many materials, but he was sure that he can possibly get a treasure chest and maybe even grab a few unidentified items that he can use in his shop to boost his experience and become a rank two merchant. He would rid of all competition before that happens, knowing that eventually, he would become the best merchant just through his smooth-talking and abilities. Pick smirked, pulling out his axe and observing it before putting it back into his inventory. The day would be over soon, and it had been a productive day. He would go take a nap later, and then begin an even more productive night with some of his new "friends" in the bar.

It was it. It was sure that there were no more materials in the area. He had no chance of finding any more, because this was the first floor, and his skills were not currently for obtaining materials. Soon, they would be, of course, but until that time comes when his material finding skills would be maxed, what he had at the moment was actually quite decent. Pick smirked, taking out a bottle of water and taking a few sips before taking the whole thing down. He stood up and began to walk back to the safe zone. The quest had been done, and he had gotten a few materials. What was perfect to finish off the day would be a treasure chest that would yield him a few more Col and a few more materials. After that, the day would be over perfectly and without regret. Unless, he finds a mimic.

Pick sighed - he was unable to conclude the night perfectly when he managed to fail to get a treasure chest. Still, the day was fairy successful because he was able to do something today. He had managed to obtain skill points, as well as train his familiar and get a few materials. Pick smirked - it was a good night, and he would spend the rest of the night in his costume, either with his friends or in a bar. If in a bar, he would make more contacts, slowly gathering support from the villains of the first floor before putting his plan into the next stage. Before allowing that stage to come, he would need support as well as membership, and he needed everything to be done secretively away from the influence of the front lines. They cannot know of the plans that were done by players like Pick... until it's too late.
