[F06 - SP] Burning Fire, Burning Heart <<Deforestation>>

Recommended Posts

Neo was once again finding herself on the sixth floor. Though she still didn't want to be here, she could feel the pain was fading. It was still hurting her, the death of Vanilla, but she was finally making her way over it. It was possible that the killer was still out there killing other players, and Neo didn't want to let that happen. She would need to get more powerful if she wanted to win against him though. And she didn't want to kill them. She was going to make sure that they slowly lost health, wondering if she would finish them off or let them live. That would happen to him and his accomplice, the girl with red hair and murder in her eyes. There would come the day Neo would have her chance, and she would be ready for it. For now she had to bolster her strength as much as possible.

There had been a rumor of a burning canine rampaging through the floor, and Neo decided it would be a good idea to come and help take it out. After all, it should give her a fair amount of experience as well as a good chance to figure out where her strength was. She sent out a thought to Roman to call him down and prepared to head out into the forest. It was going to be a pretty long journey, but wanted to play it safe. This floor had a good track record when it came to messing with her head. If she could have the help of her dragon, at least if she was paralyzed from fear or trauma the dragon could make its way through to the enemy. It wouldn't be able to take much out on its own, but it was going to be able to give her a break from the effect. The beast she was facing didn't sound like it was going to mess with her head that much though, so she wasn't too worried as to what was going to come.

Neo began to make her way through the forest, eventually picking up on the trail of the beast. It was leaving a swathe of burning destruction, so its trail was pretty easy to follow. The hardest part was knowing where it was headed to begin with. As she wanted to stop it quickly, it was better to be able to predict its turns and cut them short. It meant she had to get through the vegetation, but her dragon was able to make things brittle enough for her to break through with her parasol. Within a few more minuted, she could hear the roar of the beast and began to approach cautiously. It was going to be a bit difficult to figure out where she could go to surprise it, but she could smell the scent of fresh smoke.  It was overpowering to her, but she was able to cover her nose and deal with it. She approached the fire and was able to make out the outline of the beast. Drawing her rapier from her parasol, Neo approached it.

The beast was not expecting Neo as she charged in and quickly gave it four stabs in the side. It fell over, paralyzed by her effect. It seemed as though she had managed to hit a weak spot. Remembering what she had learned from the last time she fought on this floor, she prepared to let it come towards her for its attack. It wasn't a foolproof plan, as the monster wouldn't always attack her. Naturally, she would need to find another strategy for that. For now she was alone with only Roman, so she was able to ensure it would come after her. It didn't seem to be hitting her that hard anyways, so she could definitely make sure to have it come after her. From what she had seen so far, her familiar would never be attacked by the mob. It always focused on her instead. She'd have to make sure that wouldn't happen again.

Though the waiting allowed the beast to come attack her, Neo wasn't ready for how quick it would move. It was moving much quicker than she thought it could and ended up on her back with a red gash across her shoulder. Roman had flown up towards the sky to avoid the flames that licked across Neo's body. It hurt a bit, but Neo knew she could take it. Her health had been getting higher and higher, and she felt as though she was able to take things on quite effectively. The beast remained on top of her, but she managed to roll out of its way as it tried to come down for another stomp. Standing back up, Neo brought her slightly singed parasol forward. She would need to get it repaired eventually. Though she didn't always care for it, she hoped to at least look presentable if she needed to be nicer.

The beast was trying to move against Neo, and though her dragon was helping, it couldn't do much to freeze against the flames coming off of it. Neo decided to flip over it, launching multiple stabs against it as it charged her.She didn't get any critical spots, but did manage to drain its health even further. It seemed to be shambling a bit, even though she hadn't put any attacks into its legs yet. It seemed that it was just the AI's default low health animation. It was actually rather strange and immersion breaking, but did signal that she was close to taking it out. Hopefully her next hit would be enough. She couldn't see the health bar of the monster though from all of the fire getting in the way. It didn't matter that much though, the signals were enough. She was going to be one hit away from taking the creature out.

Having already flipped over the beast, Neo was waiting for it to turn around. As quick as it had been with the initial attack, it was slowed quite a bit by its injuries. perhaps she would make her final slash at its legs, just to justify the limping a bit better than what there was now. Roman was passing by overhead, trying to freeze him in place. Naturally, it was completely ineffective as it was unable to be frozen through all of the fire. Neo treid to go in for a hit, but was swept away by the beast's tail. Thankfully, she didn't take any damage from it. It was going to be a little bit harder to get the last hit she needed. One well placed sword art would be enough, and then the beast would fall. That meant she could spend a little bit less time on this floor.

Neo was backing up now, trying to avoid the attacks of the beast. It was coming at her with all it could, but was slowed down from its low health. Roman was still trying his best, but wasn't able to do anything with it. The flames were licking across her body, but were thankfully remaining harmless for now. Sweat was coming down her face and body, though it was a hollow feeling. The game did its best to replicate the feeling and her immersion was broken further. As much as she was trying to embrace the game as her way of defeating it, she was currently being broken out of that feeling. It seemed as though this floor had a good way of breaking her connection to the world. Perhaps she should learn to detach herself from it. Keeping her voice silent was already her not embracing the world after all.

Neo was back a ways now, and Roman had peeled off of the beast. It was enough to get it to start charging her. With a smirk on her face, Neo charged up her attack. Launching into the air, she could see the beast's mouth widening in front of her. She thrust out her rapier, parasol behind her as a drag force. As the beast went to clamp down on her, it was met with a rapier through the roof of its mouth. Neo landed as it was recoiling from her attack. it lasted just long enough that it was able to stumble into a few more trees. The forest continued to burn for a bit as it shattered out of existence. The fight was over and Roman returned to her neck, wrapping around it in cold comfort. She sheathed her rapier up the staff of her parasol shield and laid it over her shoulder. Perhaps she could see if the beast had caused anything unique to happen around here.

Flaming Pirahna: 520 HP | 156 DMG | 26 MIT

As Neo quickly went to find an ash covered lake, Roman unfurled towards her shoulder. Neo didn't dare equip to her more loot oriented gear, just in case there was something big lurking underneath the soot on top of the pond. She cast her line in, and waited. It took longer than she thought it would before she found herself getting a tug on her line. Pulling it in, she coudl feel the resistance on it. Perhaps there was something worth catching in here after all. Suddenly, out sprung a large pirahna, which was set aflame the moment it exited the water.  Neo managed to dodge it by the skin of her teeth, dropping her fishing pole in the meantime. Though she thought the creature would beach itself, it instead began to swim more through the ash that the beast had left behind. It appeared a land shark wasn't the only odd thing to be foudn in this game.

Neo sent a thought to Roman, having him fly into the sky. Though this fish was on fire like the Byakko, it was not as large. Hopefully that meant that Roman would be able to freeze it in place for her attacks to connect. The fish leapt out at her again. She was able to dodge it, but still couldn't tell it's patterns. With it essentially treating the ash covered ground as its lake, she had little way to tell where it would be coming from next. Her tactic of waiting and letting it attack her wouldn't hold up that well against this environment. There had to be some other way. Some way she could expose its weak points and take it out quickly. Just based on its size and appearance, Neo guessed that this would likely be quite the formidable foe. It could very well best her, but she knew she had some potions that would make this encounter a little bit safer.

Neo was looking around, waiting for the fish to jump out at her. Thankfully, it didn't take long for her to see it coming. It began to show a trail of fire and jumped up towards her face. She got her own attack off, but not before it was able to attack her. Roman was barely able to slow it down, and she realized a large portion of her health bar was now missing. If she had taken this fight on while at full health and energy, she might have stood a chance. Now, the only good option left to her was to start running away. She wanted to wait for the perfect moment to do it though. If she just started running, she would lose another large portion of her health. More than anything, she needed to recovery her energy. Perhaps then she could come back to face this boss like monster.

Neo was trying her best to make her way out of the beast's path. However, each time she got close to the border of the ashes, the Piranha jumped up in an arc in front of her. It seemed as though it was intent to keep her trapped in their for now. Thankfully, it was not coming after her right now. And on top of that, Roman was beginning to freeze some ground around her to try and protect her. Though the fish could melt through the thin layer of ice, it meant it couldn't keep up its entrapment forever. If Roman had enough stamina, he could possibly make her a path to escape into the forest. Judging by its attempts to keep her in the scorched area, she was guessing that it oculdn't swim through the vegetation. That meant that if she made her way into the forest, she would be completely safe.

Neo decided to make her way out of the initial area, hoping to despawn the beast. It was likely following her though. It seeemed to be slower or about the same pace as her, judging from the lack of it attacking her in the backe. Or it was faster and just keeping an eye if she tried to dodge into the vegetation. The path was narrowing in places, though also wider in others. She decided to try and hug the right side a little bit more in anticipation of pulling a fast one on it. She had no idea if it would actually work or not, bur Roman seemed to understand. It began to freeze ahead of her in the path on her left. If she could jump over that, the ice should slow the fish down long enough for her to escape on the other side. Surely it couldn't be smart enough to avoid that trick.

Neo quickly cut across the path, hoping to evade the piranha. It worked, to a degree. What happened was what she had feared. The ice wasn't thick enough and it was able to cut her off. This meant she was not going to be able to pull off that trick again. Her health wasn't going up at all, but she was able to let her energy regenerate some more. She thought about risking turning around and facing the beast, but decided it would be more productive if she just ran. So she kept at it. She had no idea where the beast's path would end, or if the forest would already be re-spawning the vegetation. It was going to come eventually, hopefully she would be able to turn around and not get hit by the piranha herself. Either that or take a hit just to escape the fish, one of those would work.

Neo saw it coming, the edge of the charred forest. It was actually a lot shorter than she remembered. Deciding to try and turn around and escape later, she had to take a little bit of time in order to avoid where she thought she saw the Piranha. However, she had guessed wrong, and was met with a bite from the piranha. It stung for a moment, before the pain reducers kicked in. Once it was dulled down a bit, Neo quickly made her way back up the charred path. She was still desperately trying to find an opening, and wasn't sure if she was ever going to find one at this point. If she didn't find one soon, she was going to need to turn around and fight the beast head on. She doubted she could actually take it out, but she refused to go out without fighting to the end.

Continuing to run up the path, Neo was barely able to dodge another leap from the fishy beast. Roman was still doing everything he could to slow down its assault, but it wasn't enough. If she could only find a way out of here. There wasn't any area she could avoid getting cut off by the fish though. If she tried running towards one side, it would be ready. She doubted she could pull her trick off after failing to do it the first time. There were few other options though. She tried to discuss with Roman, but she mostly was just getting feelings of panic back towards her. It was understandable, as she was going to need to keep running for what appeared to be a while. There had to be an opening soon though, otherwise this game wouldn't have given her this encounter. THere was no way it could set up a trap like this when the only bait was her choosing to us a skill not everyone had.

Deciding to give the trick one last try, Neo waited for Roman to quickly bait the attack on one side as she charged over the path of ice. It was a little bit better this time, and Neo found herself uninterrupted in the vegetation. The fish leapt out of the ashes towards her, but she managed to dodge it in time. It ended up setting some more vegetation ablaze, slowly creating itself more room to move around. Not wanting to wait for that, she quickly made her way out of the forest and back towards town. She had no choice at this point, though perhaps she could find herself a few materials on her way there. Not that she desperately needed them, but she could always use them to a degree. Meant it fortified her not running out any time soon. Perhaps she could put together a charity to give some materials to others.

Once Neo was back in the town on floor 6, she was able to catch her breath some. Thankfully, there didn't seem to be any way for the Piranha to move that quickly, having to burn its path. It meant that there might be something else for other players to deal with if it didn't despawn, but she could leave that for someone else. She had done the quest and gotten rid of the big problem. All that remained now was to make sure that she could finally be done with this floor. She didn't want to linger with the bad memories any longer. All the memories of her twin sister and Vanilla's death. It was too much for her to handle. She still wanted to try and get the memories to fade away, but they refused to leave. They just kept coming back to her over and over. She decided it was time to make her way to the first floor again, to mourn the loss of her best friend.

Once on the first floor, Neo made her way towards the monument of life. It was blacker than the night and just as cold, but she didn't want to leave it either way. Though all it did was bring pain to her, she couldn't leave it be. She saw the name of Vanilla's killer once more and swore her vengeance to it. One day she would bring them to justice, in game and in the real world. Bring them to justice for each life they took. For now, she made her way out towards the Town of Beginnings. there was plenty of people there waiting to move on. Several people made their way to the shops and she realized they were beginning her journey just like she had not so long ago. She had already been plowing her way to the top, but it was time for her to finally make her way more than just up. She wanted to expand, find something to do with her life. SHe only needed to find what that something could be.
