[SP-F14] Call of the Dead <<The Lich's Calling>>

Recommended Posts

He was told he would be paid handsomely if he did this, and though he was not lacking col in any manner, he did need that sweet experience. And so he just had to handle, though it was unusual for him to have missed such a quest. It rewarded him well, but he remembered that the damage that the monsters inflicted heavy levels of damage and that's what kept him away from it. Now that he was able to mitigate a decent level of damage, he had little to fear. Three hits from the main boss will only bring him halfway down if the monster could even land them, and the adds just hit each other for the sake of keeping that health bar up. Sey didn't wish to let them do this, so he had the goal of ending this with one hit and that's final. Off to the arena he went.

Into the arena he went, his hands in his pockets and his eyes half-closed as he looked towards the opponent in the arena. And who else would it be but the king of liches himself. When the new contestant arrived, the king waved his greatsword into the air, then slamming it to the ground to cause echoes around the arena. Reinforcements would find their way into the arena to engage with Sey, surrounding the both of them before two of them would side next to the king. Though he knew little of the mechanics, Sey had little problems with just punching his way through this quest. The first and last target was going to be the king, so he could only hope the true king of the arena would be entertained with a satisfied defeat of the one that claims to be as such.

It was as simple as this, the king jumped up into the air with the greatsword behind his back. Sey stared as he did this, the Lich King making sure to hold no force back before slamming it downwards onto Sey. He merely replied by crossing his arms over his head, using them as a defensive shield on it's own. And those the blade did cut into the arms, they actually had the strength to hold the impact off, Sey didn't even look like the damage even affected him. There was a decent chunk of his health that left, but the heavy damage was the only thing this boss possessed. Now to wipe it off the face of Aincrad. In turn, Sey pushed the blade off of his arms, causing the king to wobble and stumble back a slight bit before he took a leap, one punch crashing towards the skull of the enemy and a crashing explosion to cause a massive wave of bones to fly all throughout the arena. It was too comedic to see two of the minions kill each other off awkwardly before they could contribute.

Sey would look at the other Liches around him, none of them seemed too pleased with what he had done to their leader. Quite the opposite in fact, for they seemed ready for combat despite witnessing what just happened to the Lich King. Avenging their fallen leader despite the leader taking one hit to defeat. They were brave. Stupd, but brave. Regardless, it was not up to Sey to judge their decision, for they were dead at the end of this, and for real this time as well. The snow haired player raised his fists as the first incoming group would surround him on all four sides, trying to cover a blind spot to take advantage of. How unfortunate of them to believe so little of him to fall for such a thing, for his speed could outrank them. But their health bars suggested that this battle was not completely won yet.

And so the battle kicked off, the Liches would try to strike first, though he would swiftly move to the side in order to prevent himself from getting hit by the first. The second took advantage by slamming a swift boney fist towards his back, though it felt like a lovetap compared to what the result could have been, so he'll take it. But before the barrage could continue any further, he would give a swift spin of his body with an outstretched leg, looking to deliver a devastating blow to each of them. Two of them managed to get out of range, but he managed to strike one of them critically while the other took moderate damage. Hopefully he won't miss two of them like that again, though he would not put that past them if they were going to be this sneaky. At least they weren't trying to pinch him this time, and so he tried to have some fun.

And wouldn't you know it, two of them were going to get away again while one of them struck. This did threaten Sey's health a tiny amount, though that did not mean he was in any real danger now. By his calculations, their health bars were being lowered faster than his. And the other liches seemed to have little reason to jump in, for they were being made examples of now. And so, he would spin yet again, this time striking two of the liches in distance while the other two made a narrow escape yet again. It seems like he was not getting the results he wanted, for only one of them was placed in the yellow zone while the rest could happily walk around with little to worry about. Sey was not satisfied, he’ll continue spinning until one of them ended up down and out. And so their little dance continued.

He was getting luckier this time, for his spinning would hit three of the targets. The leg managed to catch the jaw of one of them, landing yet another critical hit onto the poor thing. As a result, he would then place himself still to see the status of the enemies. They were all damaged in some way, one of them in the yellow and one of them in the red. This was a better sight for his eyes to indulge in, he was able to claim the loot from one of them within the next round if he got lucky. From there, it would be easy pickings to make sure that they were all eliminated in one hit, though that all depends on the next results of his spin. One of them was able to inflict a tiny bit of damage onto him as he did this, but it was going to take far more than that in order to get him down. This was Sey's battle to attain victory from.

Let's take another spin! That was what Sey will do, moving his body swiftly in a circular motion with an outstretched leg, this time one of the monsters sent flying a heavy distance before shattering, leaving behind some decent loot from the original position that it was in. Though Sey wasn't the highest in terms of manipulating the treasure in the game, he was proud to obtain things that seemed decent for him to use. They ended up in his inventory, though he had little time to celebrate. Though he hit them all back, three of them managed to stand up yet again. And while he was distracted, he managed to take a lighter hit from one of them to the back, reducing his health back down yet again. This was getting annoying, but he noted that another one was about to perish for being so daring, and so he was willing to take another spin yet again.

Looks like he was getting the hang of this, for the enemies did not last long. Another one took a harsh kick to the face and shattered on the spot, though the results were less than desirable. Sure, it was something, but he likely was never going to be getting this sort of thing to a merchant's face, for that was just wasted col at that point. Maybe the next two of them will not disappoint him, but only time will tell. One of them managed to get another hit to the back, and he noticed that it was the same one that's been doing the most damage while taking so little of it in the beginning. That was something Sey did not want to forget, for the ending will be so satisfying once he obtained the most desirable result. A smile lapsed on his lips when he noted that the last two were finally in the red zone. Everything was about to finish.

He missed one. Somehow he missed one, whether it gained some form of evasion or he was getting tired. His eyes looked towards the energy bar, and he would absolutely believe it if his aim was getting poor because of how little he was taking care of his energy. The energy build was ineffective in his eyes, but it would certainly help him now. At the very least, he was able to survive this long due to the fact that his mitigation and evasion was so high, so maybe he was capable of tanking in the frontlines after all. He took a massive hit by blocking with both of his arms alone. Even if the damage was big on it's own, Sey was nowhere near close to danger. One of them struck, but then they soon met death with another spin of his leg. At last, he can use his final attack in a way that was far more personal against his final opponent.

Though he didn't believe for such beings to have vital points, he managed to strike where the anatomy of the human body would allow one to be vulnerable. As a result, he managed to obtained the same end with that, striking for where the hips with the tips of his flat hands. It took a second before the enemy finally shattered to pieces of data, leaving the rest to watch as the forces brought four of their own down with their king. With this message in mind, they seemed to want to bail out, finally exiting out of the arena for their fallen soldiers. Sey was making a choice in his mind about whether or not he wanted to chase down a fleeing enemy. That in mind, that was slowly becoming an easy answer, for there was something here that was real while the rest were nothing but little 1's and 0's. For that, he'll help them remember once he claimed the loot.

Simply put, he wanted to rest up. For the choice he wanted to make was not possible despite what his original intentions would lead him to believe, and while he would love to claim that the chase could continue on foot, he was too low on energy. And so the arena would slowly begin to empty, the weight of the area soon finding itself to be the weight of just one player. Though his purple eyes scanned for any more enemies to track down, none could be found regardless of how hard he searched. Maybe he traded the little bit of the skill that he had that could help him, but it was not his responsibility to handle obtaining loot anymore, for now he was dedicated to getting out of the game. So Sey found himself to be content with this result, finally alone as his energy would slowly restore.

It was a third of the way there to being fully recovered. His health was slowly recovering as well, though no faster than the typical battle healing, but he was not in battle. Considering the enemies before, it would be best to not be wishing for another combatant just for the sake of obtaining his health. He was not in the yellow zone yet either, so he had no reason to be complaining. With his typical tie and jacket, Sey would then take a grand entrance from out of the stadium proudly. Now that he finished with that, the experience points were soon to kick in. Once they did, he'll obtain that sweet howl skill that is required to make a tank worthy of being a tank. Of course, he was not finished yet. For there were two layers to the skill, the modification would be the one needed to make life easier considering it would likely just be one boss that had to be tanked... Hopefully. It would be extremely unfair if that was not the case.

To be feared by monsters, would a player turn an eye towards such a thing? What did it matter, for Sey was going to kill for experience points anyways. One had to throw any feelings of morals and ethics to the side if they desire the power to be stronger. Players that government themselves by killing things that had less value. Had Sey not known any better, he would have started to suspect this to be an experiment, unethical already being a given one at that. However, this was a real death game, so motivation was something he would love to consider when looking at this. What would make one so insane as to trap them here? To create monsters that behave as such, but then clearly know when they are beaten and bail. Emotions created through AI, an interesting project that he would love to search through if he ever escaped.

Oooo, it was time for a treasure hunt, right? That’s what one did in these slower strolls through the game, and so he would attempt to detect with the current gear that he had equipped. Perhaps he might be lucky enough to obtain such a thing. And so the hunt was on. Kyu would just look down at Sey from the shoulder to assist him, little that she knew and likely cared that she did not contribute a dime to assisting him, for she was a beacon designed to keep him from having lower levels of damage inflicted onto their opponents. Though she was typically a loner, it was interesting to see her try and assist, when they both knew that such unfortunate efforts would be futile. What a loyal familiar to care so much. And wouldn't you know it, Kyu actually did find something! Though it was hidden in the shadows, she would swiftly hop off his shoulder and rush it. It was... Nothing.

Playful and giddy, but it seems like nothing came out of this, resulting in a slight bit of time wasted. But Sey couldn't be mad at that, it was sort of adorable to see Kyu act like the small little furball that she was. On the plus side, he would then place his hands in pockets as he watched her just interact with the world around her, seemingly bored after such an thrilling fight. It was fair since she did not come out, merely providing her buffs rather than emotional support. It was better to have her as a partner, but he could understand her not really willing to fight such weak enemies as well. So with that, she would eventually find her way back to Sey so that they could continue their quest back to the safe zone. There was still more work to do.

Seems like the little wolf was far more observant than she seemed, he could feel his lips rising into a smile as she hopped up his body back onto his shoulder yet again. Though this was weak loot, there was no trap that set off in the process, and for that, he could not be any more prouder of her for finding something that was not rigged for hell, for treasure chests were always a tricky thing and he would rather not come across one if they possessed such a hellish risk. In turn for this, he would continue to press forward so that they could eventually get back to grinding the quests, for they were lucky that they just happened to miss this one and could one shot it for a lot of experience. Would they be so lucky twice? Sey would hope so, but not even his family possessed such a luxury.

His purple eyes would eventually find the entrance back into the safe zone, now he could happily enjoy the experience he obtained. But it was still quite a distance away, which would allow him to search for one more thing. As much as he would love to avoid a treasure chest due to the lacking loot and a potential for traps to trigger, there was something he genuinely would love to see in the game as of currently. A map. And not just any map either, but a map that could obtain him even more loot as well as the experience. Though it was tempting to try and get the search skill yet again for these sort of things, he had to be patient in his search, and he would eventually find a map. At least for now, he would be on the hunt while he was so close, even a random one on the ground is better than none.

And what was that out in the distance? It was a little bit away from the border of the safe zone, but Sey could have sworn that he saw something in the corner of his eye just blink at him, even for the slightest bit. If that was the case, maybe he truly was lucky enough after all. But only time can tell, for he can just observe and hope for the best. Kyu tilted her head, for she was unsure of what made Sey jump all of a sudden. Either she was correct or Sey was correct, but one of them was bound to look foolish at the end of it. Statistics probably lied in Kyu’s favor, but lucky was designed to equalize probability, correct? The snow haired player continued taking his steps through the land in order to finally pinpoint the location to see what the little blink was.

And it was Kyu that ended up taking the plunge, for Sey managed to find something of a little interest! Luck was truly working with him, though the paper would the tell him that it was something rather easy, a little too easy. Looking at the experience point reward count, he would end up not being so impressed. Beginner quests could do the same, this had to be something designed for a beginner. Perhaps he could trade with them for some pocket change, but this was near worthless otherwise. With the shrug of his shoulder, he would place the item into his inventory before looking to Kyu on his shoulder. She didn’t care with that dead face of hers, it was time to get out of here and move onto the next. He was so close to leveling up and now he could tank that much better. In due time, he’ll be ready.
