Ah yes, Floor Two. Where the atmosphere was, well, pretty much the same as Floor One, just more mountainous. It also had a slightly different smell to it. A little more... earthy. Swampy, maybe. Yeah, that was it. Swampy.

Not long after getting to the floor and poking around for a bit, Bahr found a nice little pub in a town called Urbus and decided to stop for a drink. It wasn't like he could actually get drunk in Sword Art Online, but that wasn't going to stop him from trying, all things considered. But alas, as usual, he couldn't just enjoy his mead. An NPC approached him just as he took his first sip and started going on and on about some sort of dangerous monster that Bahr was apparently supposed to have seen a quest posting about. With a sigh, Bahr had accepted the quest and made off toward the location of the hunt. Knowing that the fight ahead would pit him against multiple enemies, Bahr ate the fish that he had received from Ol' Pete to prepare himself for the battle.

As Bahr ventured through the forest, he started to get the feeling that he was being watched. It was possible that the monsters he was sent to hunt had already found him. If this were the case, it would be best for Bahr to wait for them to make the first move before he did anything. And it didn't take long for them to do so, the Venom Snapper and its three lackeys all leaping from the brush simultaneously from different directions and charging Bahr. Bahr leapt into the air the moment the four creature's would have been upon him, landing on the opposite side of the Venom Snapper and striking out at it six times, the final hit paralyzing the creature. The rolled his neck and stretched his arms, looking at the other three creatures and flicking his sword into a battle ready stance.

"Was wondering when you guys would grow the balls to attack me. Let's do this."

Despite stunning their boss, the three wolves that had accompanied the Venom Snapper weren't deterred at all. Their confidence bolstered by their numbers, all three of them jumped at Bahr, all at the same time. He charged up his sword once more, this time opting to go for an older tactic - Blast. The first swipe knocked two of the wolves away, while the second swipe connected with the immobile Venom Snapper. As Bahr's giant slab of metal wedged itself into the Venom Snapper, virtual blood spat from the wound like a geyser. Perfect, it was a critical hit.

Unfortunately, this spectacle left one wolf unattended. It latched itself to Bahr's arm, its razor sharp teeth piercing through his protective coat and tearing into his flesh. It took some convincing, but Bahr eventually managed to shake the creature off and jump back, putting some distance between himself and the ravenous pack.

As the pack inched closer to him, Bahr charged up his sword once more. When they pounced, he let loose another Blast, hoping to end they scurrying away like before. It managed to connect with one of the wolves, but it turned out that the others had only approached him as a feint. The Venom Snapper and the other two wolves circled around and jumped at him from different directions. He was able to dodge the first, but was unable to outmaneuver the Venom Snapper and its other henchman. With both of their sets of teeth sank into him, he had to put up quite the struggle to get free. Once he had, he again jumped back to put some distance between himself and his adversaries.

He had understood when he took on this quest that he would be outnumbered, but he hadn't counted on them being so coordinated given the low level cap for the quest. It seemed that they weren't doing a tremendous amount of damage, though, so he counted himself lucky and resolved to be more careful moving forward.

When they came in the next time, Bahr was ready. He dodged the lunge from the first wolf, expecting the others to be issuing a feint attack just like before. His observations of their attacks patterns paid off, and when the other three came in for their attack, he jumped up and kicked off of a tree behind him to launch himself to the other side. Upon landing, he unleashed yet another blast, connecting will all three of the assailants while the one he had dodged before was out of range. He even managed to inflict critical damage against the Venom Snapper again, refreshing its timer while another wolf became afflicted simultaneously and the third combusted into a cloud of blue pixels.

Eyeing the health bars of the remaining mobs, Bahr determined that one of them would probably die on its own from Bleed damage if he simply ignored it. Even if it dealt damage in the meantime, he would be able to handle it without any issue. The Venom Snapper, on the other hand, would go down if he could land a decent Sword Art on it and let Bleed damage get rid of the rest. Then he would only have the last wolf to worry about.

There was a saying that Bahr had heard once. "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." If he was remembering correctly, it was Mike Tyson who had said it. Well, Mike was right. Even though Bahr was technically correct in his assessment, that didn't mean it was just going to play out like he had planned with no trouble at all. The attack pattern changed again, and the Venom Snapper jumped in first, Bahr narrowly managing to catch its teeth with his sword and shove it away without taking any damage. He charged up his sword to unleash a Cyclone, and just as he was about to do it, the wolf he had been planning to save for last tackled him to the ground and disengaged the Sword Art.

He kicked the fanged nuisance off of him and scrambled to his feet, holding up his sword to be ready for the next attack. He could feel himself starting to wear down, but it was obvious the mobs weren't fairing much better. It was time to end this.

Since Bahr was pretty confident that they would go for the same attack pattern again, he didn't waste any time in prepping another Cyclone and giving it a whirl just as the Venom Snapper made its move. To his delight, it seemed that the fourth hit of the attack was just enough to drop its HP to zero, turning the creature into a puff of blue pixels without even needing the Bleed damage to assist. The remaining two wolves, intimidated by the death of their leader but enraged even more, both lunged at Bahr the second his Sword Art stopped. Not that it particularly mattered, because Bahr was feeling better than ever. His rage had kicked in and was filling him with euphoric adrenaline, and he easily outmaneuvered the monsters and got ready for his next attack. As the Bleed damage took effect and finished off one of the two wolves, the final that remained quivered in fear as Bahr approached.

"Any last words?" Bahr taunted, pointing his blade at the monster. It merely whimpered. "Didn't think so."

The last wolf, given its fearful state, wasn't difficult to dispatch in the slightest. Bahr gauged its health Bahr, prepped a Sword Art, and let it rip. The Cyclone tore into the wolf, one hit after another, the final slice depleting the remainder of its HP and causing it to erupt into an explosion of blue pixels. Bahr twirled his massive weapon in one hand before holstering it in its sheath on his lower back before patting his hands against one another.

"Well, that wasn't so difficult. I was exacting my HP to dip into the yellow, at least. What a bunch of wimps," he mused to himself, putting his fists against his hips and standing tall, clearly proud of his achievement. Combat had changed a lot for him from his time chasing down boars on the first floor. He had learned about attack patterns, how to use his Sword Arts efficiently, proper equipment, and more. Hell, he didn't even have truly proper equipment yet - he was still rocking Rares instead of Perfects. Even still, battles like this had become a breeze for him. Two weeks prior, this pack would have massacred him in seconds.

With his quest parameters completed so quickly, Bahr found himself at a loss of what to do. Maybe he could hunt some mobs since he was in a particularly bloodthirsty mood. But if he chose to do that, it would make sense for him to take a little time to restore his Energy first, that way he wouldn't find himself running out in the middle of a fight. To this end, he looked around for materials instead without having any luck. With a shrug, he started to meander through the forest.

It was a peaceful place, and reminded him of many of the forests of the first floor. The main difference here was the introduction of a lot more rocky features, which was a welcome change of scenery. He had been dreadfully bored of the first floor for quite some time, so anything to shake things up a bit helped. That being said... He still felt bored here as well. It was different, but still felt too familiar. He would need to complete the quests available on this floor and move on to more exciting ventures soon, lest he fall into the same trap of grinding in perpetual boredom.

As he strolled along, he spotted a butterfly fluttering about. On the first floor, he had captured several butterflies and used their wings as ingredients for crafting at his shop. He chased along after it, finding it much more difficult to contain the minuscule creature than he had anticipated. He ran after it for quite some time. He thought he probably looked ridiculous, a grown man chasing butterflies in the forest. It was a good thing nobody was around to see this.

Eventually, Bahr did what he did best and caught his foot on a tree root that was sticking out of the ground, face planting and somersaulting over himself in dramatic fashion. The butterfly, of course, got away as a result. He slammed the ground with his fist and muttered a few curses to himself before picking himself off of the ground and looking around again. As expected, he didn't see any obvious materials nearby, either. He really needed to start watching his feet while he was running around, as this exact situation had played out similarly countless times before.

After you've gone around searching for materials long enough, you really start to get into your own head. This had happened to Bahr countless times in the past. He found himself thinking about the strangest things while shambling around aimlessly, which unfortunately prevented him from actually focusing on the task at hand. For instance, at the moment Bahr was questioning why vampires weren't harmed by moonlight. It was just reflected sunlight, after all. Was the sunlight diluted to a point that it just wasn't harmful to vampires? Was it just a plot hole? Seriously, any form of natural light save for fire and certain plant species should have lit them up like the rural US on the fourth of July. But as a lonely traveler, Bahr wasn't qualified to determine such things. Only speculate on them.

Once again, his search for materials ended in failure. He was really starting to wish that he could come across a monster of some sort to beat up, considering he was still heated from the encounter earlier.

Then again could Bahr even encounter lootable mobs on the floor he was one? Something was telling him the answer was no. He knew that, short of events and quests, there were limits to the stats natural monsters could spawn with on any given floor. He also knew that if a monster's stats were too low, he couldn't get any loot from them. Given that he was level 15 and on only the second floor, it was likely that he was out of luck in the looting arena. With this realization, Bahr decided to double back to the pub and catch up with the merchant who gave him the quest.

Once he walked back into the pub, the merchant practically assaulted him with questions. Bahr assured him that his problems regarding the pack of ugly dogs were over, and that he could sleep soundly at night knowing they wouldn't come back until a new player strolled along to accept the quest. The NPC seemed a little confused by this, probably because it had a more basic AI than most quest NPCs, but seemed grateful nonetheless.

FLOOR 3

Before long, Bahr had made his way back to the teleport gate at Urbus and used it to make it to the third floor. It was disappointingly similar to the first two, featuring fields, hills, rocks, distant mountains, and the same old creatures as before. It would be impressive if it weren't so dreadfully boring. The monsters would be stronger, at least, so Bahr had that going for him.

It didn't take him long to find one such creature, either. It was some sort of bizarre insect resembling a cross between a praying mantis and a duck. Bahr could tell that the developers had really had fun with this one. Bahr let it make the first move so he could test its strength a bit, and the insect obliged happily, lunging forward and slicing its grotesque blade into Bahr's chest. He had to catch his breath a bit afterwards, the attack having shredded away a smidgen more than a tenth of his HP. Nothing he couldn't handle.

As the bug went through its recovery frames, Bahr took advantage of the lapse in its movements to slice into the creature a total of six times, the final strike inflicting Bleed and Stunning the monster. Bahr was pretty pleased with himself - the setup had worked perfectly.

Bahr couldn't waste any time, a the stun wouldn't last long. He rushed up to his enemy and charged his blade up, taking an unconventional approach to one of his Sword Arts. Back Rush was the sort of move that was meant to be used as a countering method for when someone had his back, but that wasn't exactly applicable in this scenario. That being said, it dealt the amount of damage for the Energy cost that Bahr was looking for, so he went for it. As he neared the creature, he jumped toward it and spun around, his sword against his back with his arms reaching behind his head to hold the hilt. Once his blade collided with the oversized bug, he slammed the sword forward over his head, carving through the monster on its way forward.

The blade thunked against the ground harshly in front of him, and Bahr dashed forward afterward to put some distance between himself and his foe. Not a moment too soon, from the looks of it, as the creature's stun expired only a second afterward.

Predicting that it would attack right away, Bahr charged up his sword and made proper use of the Back Rush Sword Art this time, spinning around and slamming his slab of metal into the insect's rough exoskeleton. Unfortunately, he hadn't counted on the creature's webbed feet carrying it toward him so fast. As he spun, his blade did indeed connect with its target, but he also found one of its blades plunged deep into his shoulder. He quickly grabbed the claw with his free arm and yanked it out of his shoulder before dashing backward.

Damn, he thought as he examined its health bar, which was mere pixels from full depletion, if I had hit it just a little bit harder, it would have gone down. But I can finish this now. He readied his weapon and waited patiently for a tiny bit of his Energy to restore itself, which wouldn't take long given the food he had eaten earlier. He didn't need to use a Swort Art to finish it off, a regular attack would do just fine so long as he could hit.

It was a good thing that Keen had been active, because Bahr would have missed. He was certain of it. As he and the creature approached one another for their final clash, Bahr barely managed to avoid getting hit and narrowly knicked the thing's exoskeleton with the very tip of his sword. However small a hit it was, it was apparently enough to run the bug's HP down to zero, and it blew up into a million tiny blue pieces shortly thereafter.

A loot panel populated in front of Bahr, and he was astounded to find that he had been awarded a whopping 1200 col for his efforts. The Rare Trinket was nice too, he supposed, but he was more likely to sell it off than actually dump any money into having it identified. As he dismissed the window, his eyes locked with the eyes of another mob. Well, he hoped those were eyes. It was a gigantic moth, and it was as disgusting as you would imagine. He grimaced in repulsion before readying his blade again, eager to slay more monsters and gain more loot.

This time, Bahr wanted to get the drop on his enemy. He had already felt what the mobs in this area could do, and didn't need to test them anymore. It wasn't that he felt particularly threatened by them, just that he wanted to keep his HP as high as possible. When it got too low, he tended to get a little... angry. He leapt toward the moth as it flapped its disgusting, oversized wings and carved into it six times with Fight Blade, the final hit stunning it and allowing Bahr time to back up and ready himself for the next clash. It shrieked once the stun was over, clearly unhappy that its day of doing whatever oversized moths do had been rudely interrupted by this puny human in a red coat.

Bahr turned his back and charged up the blade once more. When the moth attacked, he would unleash his next Sword Art and hopefully catch it off guard. With any luck, perhaps he could land a crit and Bleed the thing out like he had done with the last one. If not, he wasn't worried. One way or another, this thing was going down.

The moth was absolutely livid and wasted no time rushing toward Bahr's back, putting itself right inside of the hurt zone. Bahr swung his charged slab of metal harshly toward the bug as he spun around, the resulting hit smacking it away into a nearby tree. He had to admit, these new Sword Arts made him feel excessively cool every time he used them. He hadn't even been looking, and the Swort Art basically did all of the work for him, but damn that must have looked smooth. And by some stroke of luck, he had actually managed to crit the thing, too. Everything was playing out way too well for him.

He didn't want to let his guard down yet, though. Swine Jesus had taught him that RNG could randomly decide it had a death wish for you. You could miss over and over again while your enemy landed crit after crit, or fail to run away if you were low on HP for days at a time. With a couple more good hits this thing would go down, but only if he treated it seriously.

When Bahr's flickered to where the moth had been just moments before, he found that it wasn't there anymore. Had it decided to flee? No, historically mobs hadn't done that, and it didn't seem like it was an event of quest monster. No doubt it was circling around to attack him from the back again. He charged up his sword and, after hearing a branch snap behind him, spun around and unleashed another Back Rush, his sword digging into the moth once more. It had a lot more momentum this time, though, and still managed to tackle into Bahr, ramming him into a nearby tree. He struggled for a moment against the beast's weight, its disgusting power getting all over him and causing him to sneeze.

"Dude, personal space! Jesus! I don't want your gross moth dandruff all over me! Seriously, get off!"

The moth didn't reply or listen, of course, because it was a moth.

Just when Bahr thought he had managed to push the thing off, it slammed him back into the tree, depleting his health further. Bahr was still in the green, but understood that if he allowed this to continue much longer he would dip into the yellow quickly, and possibly even into the red. Seeing the Bleed damage plunge the creature's health bar into mere pixels, Bahr spun his sword in one hand and slammed the point into his enemy, the damage it inflicted being enough to get rid of the rest of its HP and cause it to burst into a cloud of blue pixels.

He took a deep breath once the moth disappeared, finally able now that he wasn't being crushed against a tree. As the loot panel populated in front of his, his eyes were graced with a most welcome sight. Another decent helping of col and a Rare Weapon. Perhaps he would be paying a visit to Dagger's shop after all.
