[F05 - SP] <<Blood in the Sand>>

Recommended Posts

Another swing, and another miss. It seemed that this aerial enemy was simply too much for Bahr to handle. At this point, even two crits in a row wouldn't justify continuing the battle. No, after four misses in a row, it was time to hang his hat and call it a day.

"You're such an annoying damn bird," Bahr remarked, kicking the sand in frustration. "You should be proud of this."

The bird simply cawed back in indignation. It wasn't going to let him go without a fight. It swooped in, baring it razor sharp claws in the threatening matter, but missed entirely and nose-dived into the sand. "Seriously, that should be our cue for both of us to give it up. That's how most of this fight has gone. I'm sick of it, you're sick of it, let's both just go home." The Buff Vulture cawed weakly as it plucked its beak out of the sand.

As Bahr turned to leave, the Buff Vulture stirred and went in for the attack.

"Oh, come on, man! We both know this fight isn't going anywhere!"

Forced to run, Bahr muttered cursed between labored breaths. This was Swine Jesus all over again. An extraordinarily elusive opponent that dodged countless attacks until Bahr ran out of juice, forcing him to flee but then not giving up the chase. He hated this so much. And if the last fleeing attempt he had made was any indication of the tenacity of creatures such as this, there was a good chance he could run straight to the end of the floor and off the edge of Aincrad before it stopped chasing him.

He kept running, though, hoping that this time would be different. Maybe this time he would manage to outwit the creature. Maybe this time he wouldn't have to run for hours on end just to build up the Energy to fight back. It was unlikely, but possible.

After ten minutes or so of running, Bahr looked over his shoulder to find that the Buff Vulture had apparently given up its pursuit of him. Perhaps it had come to the same conclusion that he had, that the fight wasn't going anywhere and ultimately wasn't worth the effort. Vultures typically only pursued targets that were weak and dying, anyways, which Bahr clearly was not if he was able to run.

Bahr dusted himself off and headed back to town, eager to get out of this wasteland and spend some time somewhere much cooler. Like perhaps a lake on the first floor, or even the fourth floor where there was snow everywhere and he could cool off in an instant. Literally anywhere was better than this sandy hell, at this point. He would come back when he needed to, but otherwise would avoid this floor at all costs. It simply wasn't worth the hassle, the heat, or the annoying mobs.
