Bahr had been hearing rumors. Supposedly there was a place on floor six that let people people relax and meditate as they tried to resolve the turmoil in their mind's eye. But it came with a twist. It was said that some travelers would find themselves locked in a tumultuous mind soup, choppy waves threatening to submerge them should they allow the darkness in their hearts to overtake the meditation. Bahr had heard of one such quest before from his best friend, Kityuisa. Although, she wasn't feeling like a best friend recently. They had grown distant from one another ever since their discussion in the garden on the first floor. But perhaps that was to be expected. Bahr was a murderer, after all.

And so he traveled to the Waterfall of Sage, hoping to uncover the means to rid himself of this perpetual mental hell he put himself through. He understood it would be difficult. He understood it he would be faced with the deepest darkest part of his inner self. But that was what he wanted. It was his goal to face them, conquer them, and hopefully find some peace.

He sat on one of the stones in front of the Waterfall of Sage, assuming the most comfortable position he could and closing his eyes. His thoughts swirled with a myriad of emotions and thoughts, snippets of memories, and fear of past, present and future. He tried his best to quiet the noise, attempting to filter everything out so he could empty his mind and really indulge in the meditative experience. These efforts were in vain. The roiling cacophony of images and sounds bubbled up until he was completely submerged by them, plunging his senses into the depths and forcing him to open his eyes to stop the madness.

But when he did, there was nothing. Not nothing in the sense that one might think as blackness or unyielding light. Nothing. Complete and utter nothingness. No sound, no feel, no taste, no sight, no smell. No emotion. If he were being honest, Bahr would describe it as utter bliss, if not a bit unnerving. It must have been what death felt like.

All at once, several structures flashed into existence before him. It was a series of doors, varying in shape, size and material but otherwise unremarkable and normal in appearance. He examined the doors for a moment as his sense of self slowly materialized. He realized he was once again able to move, see, smell, feel, taste, hear and think. Most of these senses were going to the waste in this void, where stimuli seemed all but absent, save for the structures standing before him.

A figure slowly rose from below, bubbling up like some sort of impossibly dark ooze and slowly assembling itself in the form of a humanoid. It looked familiar, but completely alien at the same time. Once it had finished materializing, it simply pointed at Bahr as a bright smiled crookedly spread from one side of its face to the other. Its expression seemed disgusting and sinister, absolutely revolting Bahr and causing him to grimace as it came into being.

The figure lowered its hand and gestured to the doors standing behind it, that revolting smile never leaving its ghastly visage. Bahr's eyes darted from door to door, unsure which one to open first. It was possible the strangest door out of the four, plain and wooden with a large heart plastered against it, several smaller hearts seemingly cascading from the larger one. It reminded him of someone, but he wasn't exactly sure who it was. He was positive he would get his answers once the door was opened.

With a sigh, he selected the door furthest left, opting to start with what he interpreted as the 'beginning,' and decide where to go from there. He approached the door, his heartbeat increasing with every step, and clasped the door handle. The strange entity he had been sharing the void with snickered when he did, but Bahr ignored it and took a deep breath, steeling himself for whatever could be on the other side. After a moment, he twisted the handle and pushed through.

Light assaulted Bahr's eyes as he stepped through the threshold. He held his hand out to block the light, squinting to adjust to the harsh glow. When he could finally see, he found himself in a very familiar garden. On the first floor, from the looks of it. He looked around, noticing that the door had disappeared from behind him. "Not going back that way..."

Sitting amongst the flowers, he saw a familiar flash of pink, belonging to none other than Kityuisa. She had her back turned to him, and it appeared as though she was plucking flowers and sniffing them. Bahr approached slowly, but something was holding him back. It wasn't right. He wasn't feeling the ambiance of serenity that usually accompanied his best friend. Something was definitely more sinister in nature about this encounter. Something dark and foreboding, similar to what he had felt the first time he encountered a Gemini.

Bahr wasn't going to be playing around here. He could tell by the atmosphere that something wasn't right. He unsheathed his weapon and tried to get a drop on this apparition of Kityuisa, but when he swung his sword she simply disappeared. His frnezied eyes darted around searching for their target, until they finally came upon a dagger lodged between his ribs. He hastily backed away from his assailant and readied his blade, looking into her eyes to see if he could discern who it was.

By all means, it looked just like Kityuisa - aside from the fact that she was still sporting her pink hair. She gave him a soft smile and cocked her head to the side. "Am I what you were expecting?" she asked with a giggle before readying her weapon. Bahr looked at her cursor and found that it was red - definitely a mob of some sort. The name assigned to it was Pride.

Pride. Of course. Bahr had been so consumed by his pride when it came to her, racing her in levels so he wouldn't fall behind. There was no real reason for it other than his own selfish pride. It wasn't that they had grown apart because of Bahr admitting his murder to her, he had been isolating himself from her so he could climb through the levels. So he could become stronger. He had his reasons, but pride played a major role.

"To a certain extent, I think I was," he remarked, readying his weapon and charging it up. They both dashed toward one another and swung their blades, stopping on the opposite side of one another with their backs turned toward each other. After a moment, the apparition dissolved, leaving only Bahr in the field alone. He sheathed his weapon and picked up a flower, which disintegrated shortly after along with the rest of the scenery.

Once again surrounded by the blackness, the doors surfaced once more. Black ooze bubbled up from the floor and consumed the first door that he had previously walked through. Once the mysterious liquid had run its course, it reassembled itself into the dark figure Bahr had seen before, its haunting smile stratching from cheek to cheek before it let out a cackle that sent a shiver down Bahr's spine. Bahr simply shook his head, trying to rid himself of the cackle which seemed to echo through his mind repeatedly.

Now only three doors remained, their contents likely as sinister and revolting as the first. Bahr wondered if they would increase in intensity as he continued to walk through them. The revelation that the growing distance between himself and Kit was hard to swallow, but not all that surprising. He knew it was a situation that he could easily repair, so long as he put forth an honest effort to do so.

But what of these other doors? What other internal hells would he be put through to rid himself of this vision? He shuddered at the thought of running into an apparition of his best friend Zayne. Or worse - her. A part of him, deep down, realized that these were inevitable. It would be impossible for Bahr to go through an experience like this and not be forced to grapple with those feelings. But would he be able to handle it? Would he have the strength to come out on the other side an enlightened man? Only time would tell.

He approached the second door. It was white in coloration, and the handle was cold to the touch. So cold, in fact, that Bahr had recoiled back and withdrawn his hand the second his flesh made contact. It felt like frostbite, a sensation that Bahr was all too familiar with from his youth. Bracing himself for the cold, he grasped the handle of the door and swiftly swung it open, pressing through the threshold and into the next arena.

Waiting for him on the other side was a forest blanketed in a thick sheet of snow. The same crystalized precipitation slowly cascade from the sky, causing the pileup of snow to grow ever large one snowflake at a time. It was unnervingly quiet, the trees and snow dampening sounds to the point where you probably couldn't hear much from even so short as twenty feet away. It was isolated and relaxing, just Bahr's sort of scene.

But this relaxation was cut short, as most good things were, when a flash of red erupted from the trees. Bahr instinctively put up his sword to guard and barely managed to catch the tip of the spear that had been headed for his throat. He locked eyes with his new adversary, and found that it was none other than Kirbs. Above her head hovered a red cursor, along with the title Envy.

Envy. Yes, that made sense. Bahr had been envious of Kirbs' strength when he first emerged from the Town of Beginnings. He had chased her and chased her in an attempt to match her damage output, but always found himself a step behind. It was maddening, to a certain degree. Had he surpassed her by now? Probably not. Even if he had caught up to her in levels, it was nearly impossible to match her in terms of strength. No matter how fast he leveled or how hard he tried, he would likely never match up to her in terms of raw power.

She dashed in for another attack, and Bahr managed to sidestep it, charging his blade and delivering a brutal counterattack that almost dropped her HP to zero and sent her stumbling backward. It was a good hit, but Bahr knew that if this was to be anything like the real Kirbs, the fight wasn't even close to over yet.

It was time for Bahr to release the envy he had been holding onto. Sure, Kirbs would always be able to hit harder than him, but he had his own strengths and talents. He was easily one of the most elusive players in the game, and this was a skill he had cultivated on his own. Nobody had shown him the ropes, nobody had told him what to do, and nobody had even so much as acknowledged it. This was Bahr's own power, and he was proud of it.

Kirbs came in for another pass and he maneuvered around it expertly, swiveling around her body in a single smooth motion and bumping his back against hers to put some distance between them. Yes, even with inferior strength he still had the form to outlast her, or most anybody else for that matter. And it inspired Bahr to take his build in a new direction. Instead of merely relying on evasion to force his opponents to miss, he would punish them for hitting.

"You can't honestly be planning on dodging forever. Eventually, I'm going to hit! And you know that when I do, your health is going to plummet!" the apparition taunted, its voice a distorted mockery of the original Kirbs.

"I do plan on doing that, actually," Bahr retorted calmly, readying his weapon. "I understand that my strength will never be enough to match yours, but my elusiveness is how I best an adversary like that. Just watch me."

"If you insist! Let's roll!" she yelled as she dashed forward with blinding speed, Bahr's eyes only barely managing to keep her in focus. As she zoomed into close range, Bahr narrowly managed to avoid the tip of her spear, watching it in slow motion as it flew merely centimeters from his eyes as he closed in. He rammed his sword into her stomach, her body combusting into a million blue pixels only a second later.

All that was left behind was Bahr, his sword hovering in front of him in the thin air where Kirbs' body once was. He looked around for a moment, taking a deep breath of the crisp air of the frozen forest before the entirety of the environment faded into black nothingness. Once again, all of his senses returned to absolute neutral and there was no longer any important stimuli to be found. Nothing piques his sense of smell, or taste, or sight, or touch, or hearing.

Just as before, the doors slowly came back into view, the one he had just passed through being slowly consumed by a roiling mass of viscous black ooze. When the door had been fully submerged, the dark liquid coalesced into the dark figure from before, its wicked grin spreading from ear to shadowy ear. It cackled once more, the noise reverberating through the corners of Bahr's mind like a bouncy ball trapped in a room of over reactive rubber.

Now only two doors remained, and Bahr knew exactly what was going to be behind them. The shadowy figure that had been harassing him so far seemed to recognize that Bahr had made this realization as well, its sinister cackling once again echoing endlessly through Bahr's mind. Behind one door was going to be Zayne. Behind the other, her. He sighed and hung his head as the true gravity of the situation dawned on him. The last two doors were a mere nuisance in comparison to what lied ahead. Bahr feared he wouldn't have the strength to face them.

As he approached the third door, a shiver shot down his spine and he froze in front of it. It was comprised of pure steel, with a heavy locking mechanism. Whatever lied behind this door was meant to stay there and never be touched again - but Bahr knew he didn't have that option. Locked behind this wall of steel was one of the memories he loathed the most. With a deep sigh, he grasped the locking mechanism and forced it into the unlocked position. It slowly creaked open and Bahr hesitantly passed through the threshold.

When he stepped through the door, his greatest fears were realized. Standing before him was none other than Zayne - adorned in golden armor with the usual smug grin spreading across his face. "Did you miss me?" he mused, placing a hand flippantly against one of his hips and leaning to the side.

"Zayne..." Bahr practically growled, lowering his head in shame to avert his eyes and clenching his fists.

"Come on, buddy! Lighten up! We're supposed to be having fun here!" he called out playfully as a gust of wind passed through between them. It seemed that they were once again standing on the same hills of the first floor as they had been that fateful day.

"I'm sorry, Zayne... I never meant to..." his voice trailed off as tears began to roll down his cheeks.

"What the hell, are you crying? Dude chill, it's just a game!" Zayne seemed perplexed by all of this. He didn't know. He was unaware of what had happened. And he didn't know that it was about to happen all over again.

"I'll always love you, Zayne," Bahr said shakily as he unsheathed his weapon and prepared for the fight. "You remember that, no matter what."

Without another word Bahr dashed in, appearing in front of his armored comrade in the blink of an eye with his sword charged. He delivered a single sharp blow into Zayne, the resulting slash leaving a large red gash across the man's breastplate. Virtual blood erupted from the fresh wound like hot water from a geyser, spraying out over Bahr before he dashed back and put some distance between the two.

"Now that's what I'm talking about! Wow, good hit!" Zayne exclaimed as he keeled over and place a hand on his knee to keep himself upright. Above his head hovered a red cursor, a health bar that had dipped into the red, and the title Wrath. It didn't make any sense to Bahr. How or why was this Wrath? Hot tears rolled down Bahr's cheeks, his lips quivering as he did everything he could to hold the emotions back. He knew the end was coming.

"Seriously, dude, what the hell is going on with you? Why are you all emotional? Is it something she did, again?" Zayne inquired with a worried tone. He walked toward Bahr, who clutched his weapon tighter and tighter with each step forward that the man took. It had been so long since Bahr had heard Zayne's voice that he honestly couldn't tell if it were distorted or a perfect replication of the original. Either way, it had the same effect.

Bahr turned his back to Zayne as he neared, hanging his head once more, grip around the hilt of his sword causing his arm to tremble. "Zayne... Let's not finish this fight... Let's just walk back to town and meet up with her."

"Huh? Hey, don't be such a big baby! It's just virtual death, it doesn't mean anything! Besides, my cursor color already changed, didn't it? We've gotta follow through,"
Zayne said with a lower pitch, his tone of voice becoming slightly annoyed.

Bahr was silent for awhile before he heard a frustrated sigh come from behind him. "Look dude, I don't know what's going on with you but this is lame. Are you gonna be like this every time we full dive? Because if so, it might just be better if we find another game."

"You don't understand..."
Bahr tried to reply before being cut off.

"Don't understand what? That my best friend is sitting here crying and brooding while we're trying to have a duel? What's not to get about it?" Zayne retorted hastily, practically spitting his response.

Ah, yes. That's why it was called Wrath. Bahr felt an anger bubbling up inside him now that was all too familiar - the very same that had surfaced that fateful day during his unsanctioned duel with Zayne. He had managed to do something during the fight that angered Bahr, but Bahr couldn't remember what. He came at Zayne with everything that he had, and that's why he was able to cut him down. Perhaps if he had managed to remain cool, Zayne would still be here. Maybe Bahr wouldn't be.

Bahr took a deep breath and attempted to right himself. There was no use getting mad at an apparition. It was meant only to represent something within Bahr - a flaw associated with Bahr's behavior and darkest secrets associated with the people the apparition represented. He knew this, but it didn't make it sting any less. The revelation that he had killed his friend out of anger was something that he had pushed deep down into the darkest corner of his heart and mind, never to be touched again. But this apparition had forced him to recognize that.

"Hey! Are you even listening to me!?" Zayne bellowed, his voice becoming angrier in pitch. Bahr clenched his weapon and did everything to hold himself back.

"Let's just leave. I don't want to fight you anymore," he said shakily.

"Jesus, she's turned you into a wimp! Do you even hear yourself? What, you're afraid she's gonna see some 'dark side' of you? It's a freaking game, and she ain't here!"
