[PP-09] <<Guardian of Fire>> w/ Oscar

Recommended Posts

"Maybe!" She bit out, delivering the final blow to the last hell hound.

"There's still three more," she muttered, shaking her head. Why didn't rapiers have any AOE? Sure, it might not look like it would, but if they made a sword art fast enough to do multiple hits on multiple opponents, that would be great!

She sniffed again as she rubbed her eyes tiredly. It was too early to deal with this kind of stuff. Okay, she had the right to complain. She's been sleeping on a bed of rocks for the past two days, okay?! She couldn't help but feel grumpy! She'd bet you'd be grumpy if you had to sleep on magma rocks for two days!

Her left eye twitched and her left cheek rose a bit as she struggled to keep a yawn in. Was that healthy? She was pretty sure that was normal, right?

Right?

The next wave of Hellhounds approached. Oscar rushed in and attempted to take out on of them with a quick Wa Shu. His combo of slices would have dropped the enemy's health to zero. If he'd hit. But he didn't. Oscar missed by a mile. He swore under his breath and got ready to dodge. He danced between the snarling jaws of the Hell Hounds. Thankfully, they didn't so much as graze him. He would hate to suffer three hits worth of damage from these things. Then, he hopped backwards, drawing the creatures away from Cordelia. With their positioning, she could rush in from the flank and hit them hard. Then Oscar could follow up. Afterwards, Cordelia could put an end to them with her next attack and they could move on to fighting the boss. Oscar was confident that was the plan Cordelia was going to go for. It was the most sensible one at least. He trusted that she saw that.

Cordelia grinned almost menacingly as she placed her two hands on her rapier and dashed into the battle.

Fwip!

Her rapier slashed right through the first hound, leaving its body sliced right in half for a few seconds before it vaporized into the air. "Alright," she exclaimed, tossing her hair over her shoulders as she turned to look over at Oscar. "Kill off one of those two and then I'll take care of the remaining one!"

Two more. Two more and then they could face the big bad boss. Oh, it's been so long since she's been this exhilarated. Sure, this fight was no problem but there was so much thrill to it! Maybe it was the cackling fire in the background, or maybe it was because she was doing it with someone else, or heck, it could even be because she's had no action for two days straight! It could be all three!

Blows thundered down upon one of the remaining Hell Hounds. He punctuated his onslaught with a powerful vertical chop. A critical hit. The beast went up in smoke, leaving one hound for Cordelia and Oscar to deal with. The remaining one lunged forward and Oscar spun out of the way of its snapping jaws!

"It's open!" Oscar shouted, signaling for Cordelia to rush in and finish it off.

He was quite pleased that he didn't need to communicate his previous plan to Cordelia. Even though it was the obvious plan, sometimes people had a way of panicking in situations like this. But not Cordelia. She kept her cool and rushed in. She was cool under pressure. Which was saying something because they were literally inside of a volcano right now. He admired her gumption, that was for sure.

"Got it!"

Both Cordelia's long hair and flowing coat whirled violently in the air as she dashed towards the last hound with almost unimaginable speed. Her rapier flew right through the dog, leaving a somewhat small gaping hole right through it's abdomen. The mob let out a small howl of pain before it too, exploded into the air.

"The Cerberus should be coming soon, stay alert," she called over to her Oscar while her eyes searched for the large beast that they were supposed to be fighting. It wasn't supposed to be even that much tougher than the hounds. Sure, it has more damage and burn attacks but each of the heads had the same amount of HP as a regular hell hound.

The problem wasn't even getting their HP down, it was just managing to land their hits each at a time since she didn't have any AOE moves and Oscar's was weak.

A loud roar filled the cavern as the Cerberus finally took the stage. It was a massive, hulking beast wreathed in flame. It seemed to give off an aura of heat that made the already-sweltering cavern that much worse. Oscar coughed and readied his sword. Sweat stung his eyes as he rushed in, attempting to use a Wa Shu to take down one of its three heads. He missed entirely. As he wiped the sweat from his eyes, Oscar danced around the beast, dodging attacks from all angles. He hopped back, allowing Cordelia the room she needed to rush in and deal some damage. It wasn't as if he was going to do anything this round. Despite his boosts to his accuracy, he had been unable to even land a glancing blow. Sweat in the eyes was worse than sun in the eyes. You can look away from the sun. But it's hard to deal with the stinging sensation of the salt in ones sweat being applied directly to the eyeballs.

Cordelia clicked her tongue as she dashed in after the first Cerberus head. Hopefully Leeroy and Jenkins won't hold a grudge against her for this... Her rapier swung back before pushing forward four times, landing four solid hits on the first head. The poor thing let out a small yelp of pain before stumbling back a few meters.

"Sorry," she squeaked, running back to where Oscar was.

Both of them could one-shot each head if they both wanted to, she just hoped that Oscar manages to kill this one head so that they could finally get this darn quest done. She might not feel the heat but she would rather not stay in a cave that was constantly burning with fire and running with molten lava. It's really not her ideal spot to hang around. Heck, she'd rather be on floor four than this place. Can you really blame her?

Oscar rushed in right after Cordelia. He delivered a flurry of slashes punctuated with a powerful vertical chop. And, like that, the second head went down! Oscar dipped out of the way of the snapping jaws of the Cerberus. The fight was going quite smoothly. Neither one of them had sustained damage from the Cerberus. Which was great because it looked like it would have the ability to deal some heavy damage. There was only one more head to go. Then the quest would be complete! This had been an arduous one, that much was certain. Oscar was just excited to get the heck up out of here. He did not do well in the heat. The only reason that the fatigue hadn't yet gotten to him was because of the fact this was a video game. Oscar smiled to Cordelia and hopped back. "Alright! Finish it off Cordelia!" He landed lightly on his feet, waiting for Cordelia to deliver the final blow.

Cordelia nodded her head as she charged after the Cerberus again, her thin and narrow rapier flowing neatly beside her as she prepared to give the killing blow. Just as she was about to charge up her sword art, the heel of her boot caught on something from below and she was left nearly falling on to her face. "Sugar honey iced tea-" she hissed, her free leg outstretching in front of her as it propped her up. She growled in annoyance under her breath as she stood up straighter.

There goes her concentration. And here comes the frustration!

"You're going to have to finish it off," she mumbled dully, her eyes casting into narrow slits as she gave the Cerberus a glare that could probably burn right through its thick skull. Maybe if she just stared at it long enough, she would be able to kill it... yeah, that could totally work out in her own favor.

Cordelia was half right, at least. As she stared a hole into the last head of the Cerberus, Oscar rushed in. He delivered a fierce barrage of slices and slashes and then ended his combo with a powerful vertical chop. The head was defeated and the Cerberus shattered like glass. Oscar sheathed his blade and accepted the item for defeating the creature. <<Cerberus Soul>> was dropped into his inventory, as it would be dropped into Cordelia's as well. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and tapped Cordelia on the shoulder. "Come on, let's go somewhere cooler."

The boss hadn't proved to be too difficult, but the real boss was the heat. That, and the walk back to Vulcan Town. But, at least he had some good company to keep him going throughout the two-day trek back to the town. Oscar was elated when they passed through the gates as that meant he could return to Deepedge. And with Deepedge came the cool mountain air. Despite his desire to rush away from the heat, he still turned to Cordelia with a smile. "Thanks for the help! I had a lot of fun."
