[PP-F1] Getting Started <<The First Few Lessons Are Free>>

Recommended Posts

One day after the announcement had been made that everyone would be stuck in Aincrad, Haydian set out on his quest that he made before ever getting this game. And that was to become of the strongest, if not the strongest people in game. Not only was this a challenge anymore, it was a reason it live. And so, he decided that questing would be the best option since that was always a great way to get a quick jump start in any MMO. Haydrian checked his quest log to see what he could find and saw that the first quest he should start off with was with a man named Zackariah. Haydrian hadn't met many Zackariah 's back in the real world, and when he did, they were always good unique people. And so, with a goal on his mind and a quest to complete, Haydrian set off towards Zackariah's shop.

As Haydrien went towards Zackariah's shop, he saw many people on his way. Some had given up hope and were sitting in bundle just crying. While other's seemed to have the same steel determination in their eye's. And a many others were still trying to grasp the concept that they had actually been locked inside a game and were still coming to terms that this was there new reality. As Haydrian approached Zackariah's shop, there was quite a line of people also wanting to accept this quest. So, there might be other people like him or at least with the same goal as himself. He will have to try and remember their faces for future use. And so, he had to stand in line for what seemed to be a couple hours before he finally made it into Zackariah's shop. Apparently all the people around him weren't very talkative, which Haydrian was okay with since he didn't really feel like talking to anyone else either.

Now that Haydrian was finally in Zackariah's shop, he was finally able to start working on creating his new life here in Aincrad. Beginner quests were always so simple. So he figured this shouldn't take him to long and hopefully give him a good boost to his levels. Zackariah spoke up with a soft yet firm voice "Ahhh, another adventurer, I'm sure you are here to begin your journey in Aincrad?" Haydrian thought what an obvious question that was, but he still nodded his head in agreeance. "Well that's perfect to hear, well the first thing I'm going to need you to do is to gather 5 Tier one materials and then we can continue from there." "Sounds good" Haydrian said. And with that, he pulled up his minimap and decided that the rolling hills will be a great place to start this quest. And for some reason, a smile came to his face for the first time in a long time. Because now he had a purpose.

All of a sudden the air seemed to be easier to breathe and his sight much more focused. And so Haydrian made his way to the eastern gates on the outskirts of town. The roads were starting to become a bit less thick with players because either they had started taking quests and headed out of town like he was doing. Or hadn't even ventured this far out. As Haydrian left town, he saw a small grove of trees and figured why not start over there. He had always liked forests in his past life. They were always tranquil and helped calm him down in times of stress. On his way over, he found a bush and figured it would be a good place to start since it was on his way anyways. As Haydrian looked through the bush he muttered "Picked clean huh". That figures since he wasn't the only one doing the quest.

So, maybe this starter quest wasn't gonna be as easy as Haydrian thought it was gonna be. Well, what reward would there be without any effort. Might as well make a move on it now then before other people came out here and started taking all the other materials and slow down his own progress. It was quite a nice day out though, and somehow it was just the perfect temperature. Even with all his gear, he wasn't breaking a sweat, which was still a new thing to him. After being lost in thought Haydrian hadn't realized he had already gotten to the grove. He was making good time, and now it was time to test his luck. Or in more gaming terms, his RNG. He saw a mushroom on a log and figured he'd pick it up and see what happens. *Ding* He had acquired a T1 Material. Not to bad. "I could get used to this" Haydrian said.

One fifth of the way there. Just gotta keep this RNG up and Haydrian will be on his way back to Zackariah. Plus this was a nice grove, a good amount of shade, silence, and sunlight. Maybe he'll stay here a little while longer and possibly find some more materials before picking the place clean. Being in the grove reminded him of his childhood back in California when he would go to camps up in the redwood mountains. Now those were some huge trees, and the ones here didn't even compare. But maybe as he explored more, he might find some, because in a virtual reality, anything is possible. Snapping back to reality, which was kind of odd and funny at the same time, Haydrian noticed another Mushroom on the other side of the grove and figured he'd give his luck another shot and he was rewarded yet again with materials.

"Damn, not bad" Haydrian said aloud. So apparently mushrooms were the way to go for him. So if only he could find more mushrooms. Then he would be golden. Alright, two down, three more to go. Could anything be considered a material Haydrian thought to himself. He figured he was gonna have to learn to differentiate what was a material and what as a mundane object. And so, he searched around the clearing in the grove and didn't find anything. That was to be expected. And so he walked the perimeter of the trees to see if he could possibly find any more fallen trees, Because normally that's where mushrooms would grow. After a few minutes of walking around the trees. Haydrian finally came across a tree that had fallen over and it seemed like it had been awhile. Hopefully third times the charm. Apparently it seemed like he had picked this place clean. Time to move on.

After exiting the grove of trees, Haydrien though to himself were he should start looking next. Being able to see the sky again gave him an idea and he started to kick himself a bit for not thinking of it sooner. He had only looked on the ground or what was eye level to him. Being nearly 6 feet tall did give him a bit of an advantageous view of things. But how could he have completely forgotten to look up into the trees to see if he could find anything of use up there. Or in this case Tier One Materials. And so, Haydrian turned on his heel and went back into the grove and started to look up to see if anything would stand out to him and catch his eye. What kind of trees could these be? Maybe they were a fruit tree and they hadn't come into blossom yet.

Haydrian could see flowers on the branches, but to no avail, there weren't any fruits. At least, none that he could see at the moment. Maybe if he tried climbing the trees, he might have better luck. That will be his last thing on his list to do while he is here in grove. Another thought came to him, he had always like maple syrup. Especially on his waffles. He was more of a waffles kind of guy. And Haydrian had been in quite a few debates on which was better. But that's besides the point now. He had a mission he needed to accomplish. To find out if this tree had any kind of sap that would be of use. And so, he unsheathed Craven Edge for the first time and got ready to stab the tree. Why not make it fun. And so, he drew a little smiley face into the tree and pulled out a container to gather the sap into it. It took a little while cause this stuff moved like molasses. Come to find out, it wasn't even worth it.

So apparently sap wasn't gonna be useful. At least from this tree apparently. Maybe Haydrian had just done it wrong. He never had tried collecting sap from a tree before. So who knows everything that could factor into it. Age, size, type of tree, ect... What he did know was that he was started to get distracted again. He had always been like that, once he started thinking about things, he would get lost in his own thoughts before being able to pull himself back to reality. Though, he can't complain because, because doing that really helped him get through a lot of his rough childhood. And now that things were starting to take a bit of a darker turn, it was time to get back to work. So he swung Craven Edge at the one of the branches and chopped it off. Maybe this could be useful. Sadly, it was not.

Could material gathering honestly be this hard? Haydrian had thought to himself. No, it shouldn't be that hard in the future, he was just learning the basics of his new world. Just like a baby coming into the world in his previous, it took time for it to grow, develop and adjust to it's new life. Thankfully Haydrian wasn't new to MMO's. And so that meant he wasn't gonna have to waste a lot of time figuring things out. It was more of just figuring out this new games system and how it all worked. Especially now that it was real. Maybe these tree's possibly have some fruit though. So Haydrian sheathed Craven Edge and started to climb up the tree. It was quite a new experience doing it in heavy plate armor. But it didn't seem to difficult. After climbing about 15 feet off the ground. He started searching the branches and looking inside the small budding flowers. And again, to no avail. Haydrian still wasn't finding anything!

Disappointed by the fact that these trees really didnt have anything to offer. He decided he should climb the tree to the top and take a look at the surrounding landscape and maybe he will see something within distance that would be able to actually produce some resources for him. As he was getting closer to the top of the tree. He had noticed a bird's nest with some eggs in it and maybe he'd give that a chance. So Haydrian made his way over to that side of the tree and grabbed the eggs and was surprisingly rewarded when the eggs turned into a Tier One material. Finally having made some progress on his quest, he started to climb the tree with even renewed vigour. And so he climbed and climbed to the top of this tree until he broke out through the top and was amazed by what he saw.

Looking out over the rolling hills and fields going on for miles. He was quite a bit mesmerized by the site. Haydrian just sat there for a few minutes just taking in the view and fresh air. Now searching the landscape, Haydrian saw a small ravine off in the distance. Now that could mean something special. Or at least some basic ore and minerals would be found. Maybe even some gems if he was lucky. Until his foot slipped and he started rapidly approach the ground. Before he even had time to react, he hit with a hard smack. And surprisingly, it wasnt as painful as it should have been. But he did see his health bar drop. After getting to his feet and dusting himself off. He took one more look around the grove. "Yup, this place was definitely cleaned out" Haydrian said. It was time for him to move on.

Haydrian was still amazed that the fall didn't hurt as much as it should have in real life. He was gonna have to keep an eye on that because pain was also what kept people alive and reminded them of their mortality. If you thought you were immortal in this game, you were sorely wrong, and it seemed like that would get you killed easily. And so Haydrian will do his best to keep this in mind going forward. It would be his best bet at survival. Anyways, Haydrian started to make it his way over to the ravine when he saw a small golfer hole about twenty yards away. Since just about anything could be considered a material. Maybe there might be something inside of the hole. And so, Haydrian walked up to the hole and said "Worth a shot". He was a little hesitant cause in movies, putting your hand in a hole was never a good idea. But he had a quest to do and so he stuck his hand. Sadly he didn't feel anything and nothing happened to his hand either.

With a relief, his hand didn't get chopped off or have some random creature attached to it either. At least he had that kind of luck. Anyways, off to the ravine. Haydrian didn't really have any mining equipment. But with how the game has been working so far, maybe he won't really need it. And so, he made his way over to the ravine. It wasn't a super steep drop, but it was gonna be a little bit of a difficult maneuver to get down without making a fool of himself. Not like anyone was around to witness it, but hey, you never know. And it could be a bit of acrobatics practice. Let's just say it wasn't the most graceful Haydrian had done in a long time. But laying down at the bottom of the crevice. He did notice a little sparkle about a foot in front of him. And to his surprise it happened to be a material!!!

Now nearly there with the first part of this quest, Haydrian had completely forgotten he had even fallen on his getting into this ravine. Hell, he even forgot he had fallen out of a tree 15 minutes ago. All he had to do was find one more material for Zakariah and head back to town and do one more thing for him. This quest had been a lot harder then he thought it would have been for a starter quest, a starter quest. Like c'mon, or was his luck just that bad already. Might as well get the bad out of the way and then only have good luck when he is a higher level. After walking the ravine for a bit, Haydrian came across a little mound with something jutting out of it. So Haydrian got down to one knee and started to wipe away all the dirt and sand that was covering it up. Boom, he was done with gathering finally!

Now it was time for Haydrian to make his way back to town and finish up with this quest. How long had it taken him. Had it only been minutes, hours? Haydrian couldn't tell. And then he looked at the clock at the top of his screen and realized it had been about 3 hours. Well, it wasn't as bad as he had thought, but he was pretty sure he could have done better. As he climbed out of the ravine and was walking back to town, he saw a lot of people searching the fields and grove of tree's he had already been too. There were ten thousand players. So it only made sense that others would have come the same way he did. Thankfully it seemed like he was one of the first one to have gotten the quest and was already heading back. Not to shabby. Hopefully this will help him take the lead.

As Haydrian walked back into Zakariah's shop, he said "Ya know, gathering those materials were a lot harder then I thought that was gonna be". And then Zakariah turned around from his desk and said to Haydrian, "Of course, this is your first time ever doing a gathering mission like this, especially since just about anything could be used as a material. You'll have to broaden your horizons to find more materials faster. But that comes with time and practice. But now I'll have you practice making a health potion with the ingredients that you gathered for me." Haydrian replied with "Everything I brought you can be used?" " Why yes of course, if you know what you need to do with the material." Zakariah replied. It seemed like Zakariah like to put his lessons more into a practical sense then to just answer questions and talk about it. Haydrian was always a better learner through hands on experience.

So Zakariah brought Haydrien over to his brewing table and started to guide him. He told him what to do, but let Haydrian do all of the manual labor himself. Zakariah had been doing this type of training for a long time and knew that they needed to fail or succeed on there own. He couldn't meddle with their training or it wouldn't really stick. Haydrian didn't seem to ask many questions as he was going through the process. It almost seemed like he was really having a knack for it. At least with alchemy. After about an hour of brewing and some brief instructions. Haydrian's health potion finally finished. It was time for Zakariah to take a look at it and to see what become of the experiment, and to his surprise, this potion came out better then good. Most of his students failed or just made the most basic healing potion.

"This is amazing Haydrian, you really have a knack for this!!" Zakariah exclaimed. "I think when you decide in the future to pick your profession, you should really consider becoming an alchemist. You may be able to eventually hit heights we had never thought imaginable." Haydrian let a rare smile grace his face and made a small bow to the old man. He would put what Zakariah said to consideration and might even attempt that when he has a chance. He would need to check his quest log later on and figure out how he could do that quest. Zakariah spoke up again and said. "I think I've taught you as much as I could at the moment, but I do know a blacksmith by the name of Lyle Tealeaf that could really use your help. Now don't forget everything that I taught you here now, and I better see you become an Alchemist soon." And so Haydrian shook Zakariah's hand and thanked him for the lessons, items experience and took leave of his shop And started to head to Lyle's Smithy.
