[SP-F1] Earning a Living (Elyth)

Recommended Posts

So now Elyth was scrambling around, trying to get out of the 「Death Mistã€and still find the trail again, when suddenly she ran into a tree.

That tree was not even near Elyth a moment ago.

Yes, it was an Ent!

Elyth hurriedly drew her sword, dropped it, picked it back up, and checked the enemy's HP.

10 HP, plus an added bonus of 2 due to the effect of 「Death Mistã€! Was Elyth going to har to fight five of these and maybe more just to get to the Quaetid Iron?

Just as she was about to sigh in resignation, she saw the Ent's HP go down by two.

(?!?)

Anyway, Elyth rushed forward with the intent of stabbing the Ent somewhere vulnerable- which she thought would be its one eye, which was now staring at her in... Derision? Contemplation? Contempt?

Battle roll!

1-4 Fail

5-8 one damage

9-10 two damage

Okay, she should've expected that her first try stabbing her sword into a target beyond her arm's length would be a failure, but even so, it was a very close failure, hahaha...

Elyth fell down onto her back as the Ent attempted to strike at her in return. She had dodged, but that was not nearly enough.

Rolling back into the soft dirt, Elyth luckily did not sustain any damage from the Ent's attack.

She looked around frantically for anything to help propel herself up to the Ent's eye, and there it was, lying in the ground, either forgotten or purposely left there for Elyth's use- a coil of rope and a boomerang.

Why a boomerang-nevermind, Elyth thought, sheathing her «Anneal Blade» and throwing the smooth piece of carved wood tied with the rope at the one of the Ent's low hanging branches.

The rope curled around the branch, and Elyth ran around to catch the rope and avoid the Ent's line of sight. Once caught, Elyth threw the boomerang over and over again, before tugging on last time to make certain it was secure.

Elyth took the rope in her hand and clumsily put her feet against the animate bark of the Ent, and climbed up, agonizingly slowly and carefully, taking the greatest caution to not fall off, as the Ent was now reacting violently to this new stimuli by thrashing its limbs about and shaking back and forth and the like. She moved slowly around the circumference of the tree, and found its eye. It was then that she took out her sword and stabbed it into the Ent's only visible organ.

The sword didn't pierce exactly into the Ent's eye, but it was close enough to do some damage. Elyth sheathed her sword and took out the hatchet now, determined to finish this as quickly as possible.

Since she was now on the surface of the Ent's bark, she began to divide up the wood into cartable sections, 5m long each, and let go of the rope.

At the approximate line where the trunk of the Ent began, Elyth began chopping.

Nooo! The Ent seemed to cry, writhing in tree pain, as Elyth slowly chipped away at its stump area. Even the perpetrator herself felt bad for it, but since it was in the 「Death Mistã€, it must have been animated against its will and subsequently enslaved.

Elyth couldn't be harmed by the Ent as she were, and the Ent's movements suddenly became erratic and avoidable with the loss of it's only eye. She kept hacking away.

While chopping with the hatchet, Elyth noticed that the Ent's HP was going down faster than before. That was probably because of the hatchet's x2 damage to wood-based mobs.

On second thought, chopping away at the Ent was a bit boring. Elyth soon grew tired of doing so.

However, hacking away at the tree was boring and Elyth had nothing to say other than that she was getting really bored.

A-as expected. Whenever Elyth let her mind wander too far, she didn't get a hit in.

That or she was too weak. Sighing, Elyth continued swinging the hatchet.

With a sigh, the Ent toppled over, and Elyth brushed away a bead of sweat and checked for drops.

Obtained 50 col

"Does this mean... That I have to... endure all that AGAIN?" Elyth groaned, collapsing onto the ground lazily.

Sighing, she searched the landscape before her for another Ent. She soon found one, disguising itself as a tree, and began using the boomerang and rope to go up and stab its eye.

And so Elyth let go of the rope again and took out the hatchet- Why was she already used to this...?- and began swinging it at the trunk of the Ent.

She soon discovered that her first hit was a critical and therefore she had reduced the Ent's HP to 3 on her first try.

Fabulous.

The Ent lumbered around and Elyth couldn't help but back away instinctively. However, the wooden creature was heading in the opposite direction, and Elyth soon picked up her hatchet again.

Elyth had landed another Crit, and the Ent toppled to the ground, disappearing in a *poof* of Aincrad's special glitter powder stuff. She picked up the boomerang and rope, and wiped away a bead of sweat before inspecting the ground for mats.

Skipping combat.

Elyth soon gathered 5 wood, and her HP was now down to 17/19. She looked around for the caves of the Quaetid Iron, and soon found a cavity in the mountain wall she had approached while hunting Ents.

Upon going inside, she discovered thesethings. Unimpressed, she drew her sword against them, and they had only 6 HP each, which was strange considering the strength of the Ents outside.

Goals:

0/10 shards of Quaetid Iron

0/5 trees

Again, skipping combat.

Elyth had everything when her HP was down to 4/19. She came across another cavity in the wall, which she hesitantly entered, and upon which she found herself in a fertile valley.

What?

She was dumbfounded for a few moments, until she found a little cottage in the distance. As she ran towards said cottage, she noticed that there was an entire city where it had seemed was just one cottage.

Nevertheless, she knocked politely, though she was out of breath, at the door of the cottage. The door opened to reveal a woman with pink hair and -Hold on, are those wings?

Elyth waved hello, before rushing to ask, "Would you happen to know someone named 'Nim'? He told me I could find someone to learn the art of Artisans here."

"Oh? An Artisan? Just go to that building right there," the woman said, and in the direction she was pointing, Elyth saw a brick house, smoke billowing out of a solitary chimney.

With a quick "Thank you!" Elyth was on her way. Upon reaching this house, Elyth noticed that the building was barred in, and the door had no handle. This door also seemed quite thick, so a simple knock would not be easily heard from inside.

So Elyth went around the house to find a window, and there was one, open, right above a table. The building was homely, and Elyth almost didn't want to intrude. Thus, she shouted. "He-lloooo? Anyone home?"

A little androgynous person came down the stairs at the other end of the room. Pastel yellow curtains waved in the wind, and the person began shouting back.

"WHO ARE YOU? DON'T YOU KNOW TO KNOCK?" the person shouted.

"I DO BUT WHAT KIND OF DOOR DO YOU HAVE?" Elyth shouted back.

"Hm... Fair enough. Now go away, unless you have business with me," the person said.

"Well, I was sent here by Nim to learn about Artisan...-nry," Elyth said, slumping over the windowsill. "I have some mats, so can you teach me, er..."

"You have materials?"

"Ah, yes."

"Okay, call me Master, and I'll give you a run-down of proper artisanry technique. Give me all your mats."

"Uh, do I come in through the window... Master?"

"Sure, if that's easier for you."

"..."

"Alright, come in through the door, the door!"

Ten minutes later, Master had brought Elyth to this... Room.

"Now, give me your mats."

"Here." Elyth handed over the five pieces of wood and ten pieces of iron.

"Now, this is only the jewelry part of Artisanry. There is much to learn, and here is an Artisan's kit for jewelry and metallurgy. Thanks and come again. Bye."

Master pushed Elyth into a glowing blue arch. Was it a portal? Elyth wasn't sure, but at least-

Elyth was back in the Town of Beginnings. She was standing in the Central Plaza, and really didn't know what had just happened. Nevertheless, she needed to go see Nim.

Elyth made her way back to the marble building, and went inside.

"Nim? Nim?" She called. It appeared hat he wasn't here at the moment. Where could he be...

Elyth searched the library, and could only find a note that read "If you want him back, return the Book of Philosophers" and a file on the table labeled "Elyth."

"Poop," she finally sighed.

Elyth looked at the file, and opened it. Inside was a list of books, all seemingly related to the Artisan profession. It also included a certificate of some sort, which Elyth examined closely. A certificate for... The Crafter's Guild. It labeled Elyth as a Beginner, but entitled her to learn more at the Crafter's Guild. That was great, but still..

This note was bugging Elyth. Was this a quest? Was it a kidnapping?

Quite obviously, Elyth... Didn't have a clue as to what to do. Oh dear.

Cliffhanger Ending!

1200 col earned

18 mats to start with amiright?
