So. Last night's conversation probably went like this.

Her absolute favorite scout: 
"You're getting more overall damage, but less of the flashy light show and even worse — less defense. It's definitely a risk if you don't have HP potions."
"But it means you'd only need two of those hotdogs."

Arabelle, who completely ignored the middle part:
"F-cking brilliant."

And now she was wrapping up her meal of two hotdogs on buns and steaming hot coffee with a candy she got from An's shop. She smiled a little in satisfaction. Truly, some joy had returned to her breakfast. Dressed in comfortable clothes dyed with earthen hues, Arabelle had her trinket from back when she was still Tier 1 clipped onto the collar of her blouse. It had scratches everywhere and was perhaps a little less refined than the one NIGHT crafted for her, but its enhancements were what she needed today.

She neatly arranged the utensils on her plate and carefully stacked her empty coffee mug on top of it. "I'll leave you behind if you aren't ready." Turning her head, she paid only half a mind to how the plates and utensils dematerialized at the cafe owner's snap of her fingers.

Mishiro, fully armored, held her wicker basket between gauntleted hands. She gave a small tilt of her head at Arabelle's words.

"Already am. Let's head out."

She was in a different [Garden] this time. Same early schedule, but she thought some change of scenery would be nice. And today was a little different. Today, the girl she loved the most in the entire world had ran low on stock and thought to suggest coming along with her, having had to grudgingly adjust her own schedule as the lower floors — moreso, the areas that provided a [Nature's Treasure] buff — became cramped during the day with players looking to gather as much of the precious event currency as they could before the duration ended. So here they were in a [Garden] much farther off from the safe zone, rich in coffee bean plants as her best friend preferred.

"Shiro-chan," Arabelle began flatly.

Mishiro stared out at the rest of the [Garden] with her basket in hand, stoic, but absolutely speechless.

They were all over the f-cking place. If she thought these adorable bundles of fluff were getting a little too much to possibly handle in her previous [Garden], this one had double the problem. She couldn't see a spot of plant or soil among the sea of white fur, and the mass was constantly shifting: somehow, the Easter Bunnies were still very hard at work. With their numbers, Arabelle wouldn't be surprised if they permanently drained this [Garden] of resources.

"Do you remember the Halloween event?"

That shook her out of her stupor. She felt dull gray eyes on her for a moment, then the other girl looked back at the... Bunnypocalypse and nodded mutely.

"I'll clean them up for you. Watch."

As a confounded Mishiro watched, Arabelle stepped right into the fray with her scythe blazing.

Well, that scattered them. When she slammed Shikama Douji down at the end of her first [Sword Art], it was almost as if a switch had been flipped within the little bunnies' heads and they all spooked — first, the ones closest to her who weren't exactly damaged by the impact, then the ones around them, then... you get the point. They all retreated, scrambling for noticeably huge holes in the ground (those hadn't been there before, had they?), and the thumping of their paws almost reached a deafening crescendo.

In the chaos, she couldn't see the mobs she randomly targeted until they sprang out at her with enraged cries. At least she wasn't having a hundred attack her at once, as was her worst case scenario—! Acting quickly, Arabelle whipped her scythe out and swiftly sliced through the bunnies in midair. Three dropped to the ground and one remained, clawing at her as soon as she was within reach.

She thought she saw Mishiro move — a flash of black and white a the very corner of her vision — but as long as the girl didn't venture any further into the [Garden] without her, Arabelle wasn't too fussed about anything she did. She had her own battle. Shikama Douji was lighter than Amaterasu, she observed, and she found her starter weapon as easy to use as before (or perhaps even easier because she's since gotten more combat experience) with a little adjustment on her part. The flow of her movements wouldn't suffer. She shook the bunny off of her and in the same smooth movement, she'd cleaved through its head and effectively destroyed the last of its HP bar.

Arabelle pursed her lips and shook her head at its dying squeal. She moved to collect the items it had dropped as was customary and she wasn't disappointed. Where on earth had that bunny been hiding all those chocolate eggs along with an unidentified consumable? Questions she would never have an answer to.

A thundering crash and the sound of multiple somethings breaking like glass smashed against the floor.

Oh, right.

Arabelle's head snapped in the direction of the sound. Not too far from her, Mishiro rose from her crouch and stood amidst a shower of cascading data shards. Loot scattered around her feet and the girl tapped the toe of her boot against the ground, casting her gray eyes down to look at a bundle of chocolate eggs curiously. She turned her head up, met Arabelle's gaze. "I would have rather avoided fighting them, but they were coming for you," she explained.

The small purple-haired girl shook her head, unable to stop a small laugh from escaping her lips. She bent down to gather some materials for her own (and they'd spawned conveniently at her feet, what a lovely treat indeed!) and made her way over.

"Of course, of course. Weren't they just adorable?"

"Very," Mishiro agreed. "Did you see how soft and cuddly they looked? I don't feel too bad for killing them, but I wish there had been an option to avoid it. If only they weren't..." She cast her glance down the rest of the now-empty [Garden], riddled with trampled grass and large openings in the ground that could only lead to their burrows. "...as problematic as they are now, I'd bring one home with me."

She wasn't expecting a serious response, for some reason. Arabelle felt her lips pull up into a small smile. "Aww. What about Bandit? He'll be jealous. With another cute familiar around, who would shower him with love and affection (read: extra treats)?"

A huff. "Nonsense. I can love them both equally."

Arabelle had many things to say in response to that, but she kept silent. She watched the younger girl pick from her mobs' loot, leaving what she didn't need on the ground. After a silent agreement passed between the two, Arabelle came forward and claimed a few for herself.

"You talk like that but you're looking awfully remorseless."

For once, Mishiro's serious expression gave way to a withering glare. "I haven't forgotten anything. At most, I thought it was just a shame... having to beat down cute things. They're better suited for cuddling." Her expression lost its intensity (probably at the nice thought) and the girl was merely looking at her curiously now. "But I've encountered more and more people who've forgotten how to distinguish."

"Yes. They were the most unpleasant to watch. Like... oh no!" Arabelle held a gloved hand to her lips, feigning a horrified expression like any bleeding heart looking upon something dreadfully offensive. "My poor, delicate self didn't mean to kill such an innocent creature... how can I possibly atone for this terrible murder?"

"It's how they cope."

"The sensitive little snowflakes; they wouldn't get very far unless they get rid of that compulsion. What do you think of them?"

Mishiro gave a little pause and Arabelle took that opportunity to pick up the rest of the chocolate eggs the girl had left behind for her. "I have a little less respect for them," she began bluntly. "But in the end, they're just in need of some guidance."

"Guidance..." Arabelle repeated with a thoughtful hum. Always one to give the benefit of the doubt, the girl beside her would say that. She was rather nice in that way — and might she say, also a little troublesome. "It's still up to them whether they take it or not though. Not everyone's receptive, and a special few cling so dearly to their own delusions that it's almost pitiful."

Behind her, Mishiro remained silent.

"Now then, we have some brave little bunnies spying on us. Did you spot them? Come on now, you should! I Spy..."

"This isn't the time for games," came the stern interruption. She heard the rough sound of metal rubbing together as the martial arts user closed her gauntlets into fists. "Let's work toget—"

Arabelle thrust out her arm, barring the girl from advancing.

"Nope, sorry. My loot minimum." She looked over her shoulder and shut one eye. "I was told to make extra sure you stayed well out of the way whenever I engage in combat. So, there. You came here for one thing, right?"

Mishiro opened her mouth to protest. Then she lowered her hands and took a step back, dropping her gaze. 

"Go ahead."

She didn't need her best friend's prompt. Arabelle burst forward, spinning her scythe out into an offensive.

While the [Garden] had remained mostly deserted for the entire duration of their little chat, the Easter Bunnies here had the same habit of sending out groups of four to deal with the threat outside their warrens. A fruitless effort; no matter how buff their strongest could be, small bunnies simply weren't made for fighting... she thought, as she took an attack that knocked 60 points off her HP. Ouch. Less defense, indeed. Her favorite scout's concern wasn't misplaced: she was taking 20 more points of damage without the ability to regenerate it. 

But less hot dogs.

Arabelle wanted the battle done quickly. She concluded it with a two spinning slices and a strong downward slam to the ground that turned all four rabbits in the immediate area of impact to specks of blue dust. Their loot, as was the case with the previous group, was a bit of a disappointment.

She returned to Mishiro, who hadn't even watched her fight. Arabelle pouted lightly at that, but she followed the girl's gaze as she surveyed the appearance of the rest of the [Garden]. Surprisingly, though it had been buried under that huge number of bunnies earlier, the coffee plants her friend needed remained relatively intact. And... good enough to gather, she also observed as she switched on her own [Detection]. 

"This is more than I expected after what we saw earlier, honestly. I'm just relieved our coming here wasn't turned into a complete waste of time." Mishiro turned to her and swept out her hand in a gesture. "You can gather as much as you like. There's enough to go around."

With her energy regenerating from the combat, Arabelle stayed beside her friend and happily got to work delicately snapping off materials from a plant's branches.

"Hey, Shiro-chan? You don't want any of these eggs, right?"

"I gathered a few the last time I came here," Mishiro said. She reached a little further beneath the leaves of a certain plant and pulled back with a chocolate egg grasped carefully in her hand; her right gauntlet was gone, now that she wasn't expected to engage in combat. "'Collect as many as you can and exchange them at the shop for special rewards,' right? Even Aniki encouraged me to join, but I don't believe I have the time and dedication everyone else has. I'll take some if I have a chance, but between the two of us, you're the one who'd be better off with the rewards."

A chocolate egg was pressed firmly onto her palm. Mishiro's hand wrapped around her wrist and pushed it back, a ghost of a kind smile on her lips.

"So, here. Take it."

"Well, if you insist..." Mishiro had a grip of iron. She tried not to make it too obvious that she was rubbing her wrist after she had added the festive event item to her inventory. "But I'll have you know I don't accept free giveaways. Even though I do it the other way around. My wonderful, charitable self just doesn't like owing anyone anything~."

"I don't need the currency. I'm not losing anything of value. Ergo, you don't owe me for this."

Arabelle was flabbergasted. She— really had no idea just how good that stuff was, did she? No, that was impossible, her friend had stuck with her for the Halloween event's grind too, but now that she thought of it, it was less of willingly jumping in and more of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Besides, Aniki and I already have an agreement," Mishiro continued serenely. "He would gather enough for me to clear the shop of limited rewards, and I would trade the purchased items over to him. I thought it would be helpful for him."

Oh.

"No, I'm talking about now. So let's have our own agreeement!" she huffed. "I want us to help each other, so... on this trip, I'll gather materials for you, and you'll gather chocolate eggs for me. Does that sound good?"

Mishiro blinked as if the idea had just occurred to her. She cast a glance towards the basket placed beside her, appearing to silently take count of the materials she had gathered so far, and she nodded in agreement. "Mutually beneficial. I like it. Would that count the materials you loot from your mobs?"

Oh, speak of the devil. 

Arabelle shot to her feet, standing defensively in front of her best friend as four more rabbits prowled nearby. Her energy was back to full, and Shikama Douji was comfortably in her hands. "Well, if I get too lucky with these guys, I'm gonna want to keep it!" she declared confidently and the Easter Bunnies all bounced forward to attack. She cleaved, a sickly green into the air and into their fluffy white pelts, but that didn't stop an assault that brought her HP down to half. Yellow bar. Hadn't her favorite scout mentioned something like this?

Whatever. Regen or none, she just needed to kill them extra quick like she always had! Arabelle spun around swiftly, throwing the attacking mobs off her, and she darted past them — leading them far, far from where Mishiro had noticed her HP bar and stood up, ready to jump in where she was needed.

"I'm fine, Shiro-chan!"

Imagine dying to Easter Bunnies. Actually— with this event and the actual danger their numbers posed, that was a possibility. Whoever died from this would surely have those info brokers who took constant looks at the Monument of Life laughing at them for days; a morbid sort of humor only shared among them. And she wasn't going to be that person. 

So sit down, Shiro-chan, and keep picking flowers.

The small purple-haired girl pivoted on her heel and delivered crushing blows to three of their heads. She cut the final bunny's HP in half but was unable to dodge the claws coming her way.

A vertical spin. Hair flailing around wildly, threatening to unravel the bow of her usual elaborate updo, and her beginner scythe glowing a bright sickly green, Arabelle felt its sharp blade meet skin. Death had come from above and split the last Easter Bunny's figure in half as it once again made an attempt to attack her. There was simply no way the girl's pride would let her HP drop to the red zone.

A decent amount of chocolate eggs rained down from the mob's splintering form, bouncing on the soft grass where it lay ready to be gathered. And oooh, was that another uncommon consumable? She had been picking up a few lately, she noticed. Arabelle had grown a liking to looting those; it was much better than picking up an unidentified rare trinket that was sure to be nothing but EXP fodder for her favorite merchant. She stashed away her loot into her inventory and returned to her friend.

"If only I knew this [Garden] would prove to be this dangerous." Mishiro was glaring at her, and her tone held a firm reprimand. She met Arabelle halfway, staring down at her (she was taller, everyone was; but it was also worth to mention that compared to most girls, Mishiro was tall) and she had an inventory window prepared. "Potion. Now. Do you have one in your inventory?"

"Awww. Is my darling Shiro-chan concerned—?"

"Arabelle."

She rolled her eyes. Made a gesture with her hand and opened her own inventory. Once again, An had been lucky enough to identify exactly what she needed at this moment: three HP potions, all Tier 2, and of varying qualities. She consumed the lower quality ones first, all while Mishiro switched between watching her and then watching their surroundings for enemies.

"It's quite alright. Based on their patterns, another group shouldn't be coming out until I've already had my energy restored."

They were back to gathering. Before she took her usual place beside her friend, she fished the coffee beans she looted out of her pocket and held it in a closed fist over the basket where Mishiro kept all her gathered materials. "No particular order to them, yes? Or are they all the same type?"

"That one goes on the left," the dark-haired girl recited after a moment's glance. 

Arabelle placed her material in the basket accordingly. "Won't it all get jostled around when you carry the basket though?"

"It's practice for maintaining perfect balance and composure," said Mishiro proudly. (She figured that wasn't a joke, this time, it being a joke would come completely out of nowhere). The girl reached to her other side and then turned to Arabelle, gently rolling four chocolate eggs in her direction. Now that the trade was done, they continued working down the rows of wild plants and picking coffee beans.

"Shiiiiro-chan. The concern's lovely, but even though my HP bar looks like this, my actual health points are enough to sustain more than four attacks should those bunnies come to attack again. Or they really will, it's just a matter of me deciding when to engage in combat."

"I would rather you take more precautions, but that isn't the only thing that I've noticed from you. Is that really your build? I wonder how you managed that long with that level of defense, or lack of."

"No. Of course not. Defense is a must-have for Tier 2 onwards, or perhaps even much earlier? Quest mobs have AoE attacks and I do not like being too reliant on tanks to protect me. If the tank is too incompetent with their own role, all that heavy damage would come for defenseless old me."

"So the armor and weapon with you today?"

"Full offense, full accuracy, and full LD. It wasn't my idea but I shifted my equipment around and I'm a lot less reliant on buffs now."

"...those hotdogs... Understandable. I just hope you know what you're doing."

"I want to save up this potion~. It's Perfect, even. If I drop too low, I have a teleport crystal." Arabelle reassured. Another group of four heading towards them — and they were all raring to go! Too bad, she considered herself too motivated to even allow herself to drop down to red. "Oh, and I guess you would have to run away too. We aren't in a party, but I figure they would naturally target you next."

"I can survive one round against them."

"Right, right. And then you'll break out that teleport crystal of yours. No buts!"

She thought she caught movement out of the corner of her eye, but seeing as there were no red markers in the area behind her earlier, she pushed the thought to the back of her head. "Alright... this group, and I'll refresh those buffs," the scythe-wielder mumbled to herself.

Mobs and player clashed and her health dropped back to the yellow.

...But it was all fine because they were all in their yellow zone too, and unlike her, their HP values couldn't survive from one more hit. Arabelle ignited her scythe and spun like a whirlwind as the attacking Easter Bunnies all drew near to attack, effectively blowing them away, the multiple slices from her blade shredding them to pieces. Her lips pulled up to a smirk. 

Another perfect run.

And she finished them off with an earth-shattering slam. All four Easter Bunnies collectively burst into intangible bits of data. When the cloud dispersed, she was left staring at piles upon piles of materials, chocolate eggs, and... Perfect Weapons. 

Alright, that looked like a lovely selection — on any other day! Arabelle loved her unidentifieds, but she would have rather rolled for chocolate eggs! Why was it that she only got these when she didn't need them?! Gathering them all, she pursed her lips into a small pout.
