There was no changing the subject. Sure, he knew it was a hopeless battle to fight right now, and at the moment, he was just going to have to concede that. When she mentioned wrapping up the food, he nodded. As the NPC server came by, he mimed for her to come and wrap up the leftovers, and she bowed, taking his plate and putting it away. He knew that with in-game durability, it wouldn't last long, but he still felt wasteful not eating it. He was silent for the rest of the time they spent in the restaurant, and he knew that would probably tear Mari up and make her turn that guilt inward. Then again, if he had to guess, she was going to find ways to do that no matter what he did.

He walked with Mari back to Snowfrost, giving her slight bow of the head. "I'm sorry for being quiet. I have a lot to think about." There were a number of ways he could attempt a polite parting, but words didn't really seem the way to go about it. Instead, he offered another slight bow. "Thank you for your honesty. Don't worry. What we discussed will remain between us," he lied reassuringly.With that, he took his leave, making for the teleportation array in the center of town. Stepping in, he called out, "Kalanaes!"

He needed to clear his head.

It was not long before he was out in the wilderness, picking his way from one floating island to the next in search of something of value. When things didn't feel right, he could always at least fall back on his role as a treasure hunter to lose himself and restore some equilibrium. If he was going to plot an intervention, he was going to need some help.
