It was gruesome, but got the job done. He waited a moment for the cloud of pixels to disburse, then cleared the moss away to reveal a large iron-bound chest. "Well... that's awfully convenient." His eyes narrowed for a moment. Perhaps it was a little too convenient. Cardinal wouldn't be above converting the object into a mimic, if it thought it could prevent him from entering Tomoika. A quick scan of the surroundings confirmed that his scuffle with the sentries had drawn no attention. He could spare a minute to investigate. Checking the surface of the chest itself, as well as the surroundings, he found nothing. In his twisted mind, that meant that there had to be a dozen pit and spike traps that he had surely missed. In this case, it was full of treasure, not gnashing, angry teeth, so Freyd conceded that he just had to be pleased and move on. He sneaked across the short distance to the gates of Tomoika as quickly as he dared, watching the gate guards closely as he entered, fearing betrayal or Cardinal's corruption. He made his way directly to the teleportation portal, by the shortest possible route. A message pinged in his UI as he approached the portal. 'You really need to stop stirring up every available hornets' nest. We'll get the message to Coral. Stay safe. - Quip.' "Good lass," he acknowledged. It was important to have people around that you could trust. Despite his instincts against it, it was a truth that Freyd could hardly deny. He still preferred to actually work alone, but strong support could make all the difference in the world.
